John Jenkins has heard the rumors and, quite frankly, he’s not too happy about them.

The big nose guard from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, who was one of the most heralded members of Georgia’s 2011 signing class, is presently back home in Meriden, Conn., getting ready to join the Bulldogs this summer. But even up there in what he describes as a very intensely focused environment, he has been hearing the scuttlebutt that an apparent academic snafu had jeopardized his eligibility at UGA.

“Yeah, I don’t know exactly where that came from,” Jenkins said Tuesday. “Everything is good. Everything is straight. I’ll be there in June. All it is is rumors. I don’t know where it starts. Regardless, I’m going to be playing against Boise State and that’s all I’m thinking about right now.”

Jenkins, a 6-foot-4, 360-pound JUCO All-American, is expected to be a big difference maker for the Bulldogs. Along with redshirt sophomore Kwame Geathers, he’s expected to give them the push in the middle of defensive coordinator Todd Grantham’s 3-4 defense they were previously lacking.

Jenkins said he knows he’s being counted on and he is preparing accordingly.

“I’m on Coach T’s [Joe Tereshinski] workout plan, but I’m going beyond that,” he said. “I’m working out three times a day. I’m lifting weights and doing a lot of running and conditioning. I want to be in good shape when I get there. Everybody just needs to chill.”

Just to double-check, I talked to Jenkins’ coach at MGCCC.

“You can go ahead and squash all that,” coach Steve Campbell said. “Of course, each kid has to go through an admissions committee and all that’s going on about right now. But he graduated from here and Big John’s going to be fine. We haven’t had anybody not make it yet.”

Meanwhile, Jenkins said he finds all the rumor and innuendo annoying.

“I get people asking me about this and asking me about that and it’s like people are just predetermining things,” he said. “I’d just say if you don’t see me at Georgia, then you can start worrying. But I’m going to be down there June 3 with my teammates getting ready for Boise State and South Carolina and everybody else.”

I don’t see how people are going to be able to block our front 7. I just don’t see it. You’ve got this big man Jenkins with another load with Kwame Geathers, both weigh over 350, and not to mention you have to block two 300 pound defensive ends. Getting away from the line, you have to deal with a linebacker named Alec Ogletree that hits like a LB but runs like a safety, then you have to deal with more linebackers just like him. Good luck to Boise but I don’t see how you can block two guys that weigh over 700 pounds together. Kwame was dominating in the spring game and he’ll be even better by the first game.

RabidDawgFan

Not to mention, that defense that will be attacking Boise will have bad intentions because these guys are hungry. They want to prove themselves and I don’t think they’ll let Boise get in their way, or any other team for that matter. So far, they’ve stayed out of trouble, and let’s hope it stays that way. Let’s leave the getting in trouble with Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee this offseason.

Name one team in the WAC that has the size that we have in the SEC. That’s right no one. Once Boise sees these guys up, close, and personal they’ll be wondering what the heck is going on? These guys are mammoths, make no mistake about it, but not only are they big, but they are fast and can run. Boise has a little line, and imagine them having to block Jenkins, Jones, and Tyson, with Kwame sometimes playing DE. Goodness.

You know what I’d do if I were Todd Grantham? lol, this won’t happen but it’s just my idea….I’d put Kwame Geathers right behind Jenkins over the center (the center for Boise is 5′11, 288) and when the ball is snapped, I’d let Jenkins do his thing on the center but while the center is focused on Jenkins, I’d blitz Geathers right through his gap and knock that center on his rear. Kellen Moore won’t know what to do when he sees 700 pounds of pure man charging at him and he’ll get frantic. I’m telling you guys. Kellen Moore has never seen something like that. He’s a good QB but he just hasn’t seen that. And if something is new to you, you’re going to get nervous.

That’s great news for the Dawgs. It’s like getting a 1st round draft pick! Sometimes you wish the Dawgs would go back to a 4-3. Tt seems like the best way to get your best players on the field. Obviously, Cornelius Washington is struggling in the 3-4. Could you imagine him beefing up and playing with a hand on the ground. He’d be another Freddie Gilbert. Add John Jenkins and Kwame Geathers at tackles, with Derrick Lott at the other end (it’s important he gets in shape)and,if he doesn’t,throw Ray Drew in there. Inside Linebacker- Christian Robinson, backed up by Armarlo Herrera, with Jarvis Jones and Alec Ogletree outside. Boykin and Smith at corners, with Shawn Williams at free safety and Rambo or Sanders Commings at Strong. Holy Cow, future NFLers at every position!

RabidDawgFan, I like that idea. Here’s another one how about Jenkings lined up one of the center’s shoulders & Geathers on the other then stack Alec Ogletree right behind the DT’s. The OLB’s would be standing up on the edges then based on the situation we’ll have 1 or 2 other ILB’s. This is similar to a package the Packers run but just with the DT’s shaded on both sides of the center instead on over the guards. So now you’ve got the middle clogged which will allow Tree plus Robinson & Samuel able to roam free. Add in a few stunts\blitzes by the LB’s, all of this will have the QB so confused. The logical counter to this will be runs to the outside, screens along with short & quick passes all of which we have the speed to contain.

John Jenkins won’t be blocked by one man. I don’t care how strong the center is. He’s motivated to do well because he knows how much Georgia needs him to do well. Kwame has already shown that he won’t be blocked because Ben Jones could barely block him and he’s an All-SEC center in my book. Now guys, we can’t forget that Jenkins is a big man, and he’s going to need breaks. He’s not an every-down NG. 360 pounds just won’t hold up for 4 15-minute quarters. But that’s why we have Kwame.

Also, I want people to realize that just because we run a 3-4 doesn’t mean we always have to be in the 3-4. That’s our BASE package. A lot of times last season, I saw us line up in a 4-3. You can mix it up in order to confuse the QB and the offensive line. You have a OLB standing up like he’s going to rush, but he drops back and there’s another linebacker coming for the QB. It’s all about confusion. I think we’ll confuse plenty of people this season.

Chip- Thanks for updating us. Some of you seem troubled by anonymous idiots sittin in the brush lobbing insults. Ignore them. That’s a greater and more effective weapon than worrying about what they say.

What I got most from this article was that Big John isn’t waiting to appear later and ask what is going on. He is working out beyond the requirements put forth by our training staff, but what is more interesting is his Bulldog Spirit pulling at the traces to go after our first opponent. That attitude is worth more to fans than anything. If that persists throughout the summer and the game I feel more and more that we can beat the more highly rated Broncs. Most importantly, that attitude could wash over into the SC game. That game is more important than the Broncs’s game.

Chip, you promised earlier to pursue info on this guy and we appreciate the effort. Seems like no one else had the info nor the closeness to Big John. Are you going to hold sway all summer for us with this guy? Hope so.

We know that you only come on this blog in order to antogonize UGA fans. I assume that you are probably young. What’s impressive is that you managed to become so stupid in such a short period of time. It’s akin to, “I know you are, but what am I”? There are few real Boise fans who think this game will be close. Dawgs will realize just like Alabama did(when they got smashed by Utah), that Boise is one of the best in the country.

The reason you won’t see a lot of Boise fans on the forums unlike the VT game last year is because Georgia is a not a premier conf. team and Boise fans appreciate UGA willing to step up and get smashed.

You all should be humble, this game isn’t gonna be fun for you. Quit talking smack cause it’s only gonna be more embarrassing when Boise dominates on both sides of the ball and especially on the lines.

A fan(not a graduate) of auburn football since they were the last team to win the national title. He couldn’t get into UGA so he went to some JC in alabama and thinks that allows him to claim Auburn as his team. Year before, he was a Bama fan.

Hates all things UGA because he couldn’t get in, a UGA guy stole his girlfriend and fired him from his job. He now lives in a trailer in Alabama and posts on his momma’s computer.

The people doing this are the so-called UGA fans that want Coach Richt fired. They DO NOT KNOW a thing about the football program. I’m sure there are some other things they don’t know about either. Why can’t the losers support the coach, staff & players & want to win a bunch of games this yesr. So all you people that who like too complain, GET A LIFE & DO NOT COME BACK….More than likely they support NOBAMA too!!!!

How can you say anything bad about another team when you’re own team is on a downward slide? Auburn hasn’t been mediocre since Tubs last year. UGA and Auburn have the same number of SEC Championships since 2000. The only difference is Auburn has a national title and two undefeated seasons to show for it. Not to mention a Heisman winner.

Worry about your own team.

An inside source advised me that it really means We Deny Everything and that the whole eagle as the second mascot was to hide the real meaning. I always wondered why no Auburn fan could explain the eagle, makes perfect since now.

Auburn has secret $100.00 hand shakes and hidden meanings to a rally cry.

What’s next? I guess we’ll just have to wait for the lenghty NCAA investigation to get finished to find out what other secrets will be uncovered.

Auburn has abliterated the record with the amazingly high score of 80! and it’s only 5-17-2011, ain’t nobody gonna catch Auburn this year and that record might stand for all time.

Well,

I finally reached social security age today and I want to thank you all very much for providing the entertainment for my party. I almost forgot the title of this article I was laughing so hard. I wish I had come backs like I have seen today on this blog, when I was in elementary school. Oops, I forgot. In case some of you don’t know what it means, elementary school seems to be about as far as some of you folks got on here. Like in 5th grade was graduate school for 1980. It is really quite simple logic here. If you don’t like UGA, stay off the UGA blogs and don’t feed me that line that this is a public forum and such. Not interested in why you have to make yourselves feel important by cutting down another college.
Let me add the one thing that stuck on my mind after looking at a picture of big ole John Jenkins there. Dang, that is one big dude. I can say for sure, he will disrupt some offensive lines when he is in there.
Now, back to calling each other and your schools names. Didn’t mean to interrupt, but once again, thanks for the laughs.
P.S. 1980, be sure and read the areticle on the web site posted by me at 5:48. You might find it interesting. And if that bores you, AL.com, also did an article about the same thing a few weeks back. Look it up. That’s AL, like in Alabama.com

Auburn junior running back Onterio McCalebb was arrested this past Saturday in DeKalb County, Ga., and charged with two misdemeanor counts of driving an unregistered vehicle — no tag, revalidation decal — and not having the proper required license.

Funny how the kid could drive through Alabama and not get that ticket?

Somebody at Auburn needs to tell these football players that when they leave the state of Alabama they are no longer under the Chizik protection plan for Auburn football players.

“Yeah, I don’t know exactly where that came from.” Read any UGA blog and you will have a pretty good idea. All I can say is stay away from the AJC blogs and you will have a very enjoyable two years. Can not wait to see you line up in the red and black.

It Ain't Rocket Science

May 19th, 2011
6:54 am

I think some of you folks on here that delight in putting down the UGA team, coaches and players need some familiarization of the two words, pride and revenge.
Pride is supposedly a sin however, false pride, that some of you so proudly exclaim about your teams, is the real sin. Pride is a great motivator of people and when, people call you names and question your character on these blogs, you might just be setting your team up for a little old fashion revenge. One will lead to another in competition.
Why some you people on here think you have the right to cut down a players character and life is beyond me. I believe the old saying is, “walk a mile in my shoes first”. A lot of these kids have had a rough environment to grow up in and sports represents to them, a chance to escape that life and move up into a more stable, more prosperous life. Some can escape and some unfortunately can not overcome the obstacles. Others, have had a better youth, but may not be as gifted as others but there is no denying their desire. The fact that you do not know most of these athletes personally, and still feel you have the right to question anything or say anything you wish about them, brings into question, of who is the real adult.
Revenge is one of the stronger emotions and motivators of human beings we have. If you don’t believe it, just look at the way a lot of folks insult each other without even knowing each other personally. You do the same to players and coaches of other schools as much as you do each other. These folks read these blogs also, with the possible exception of the coaches, who probably think that fans are just fans. These kids don’t look at it that way. They remember when a fan of a certain school questions their character, desire and throws insults that are directed personally at them. Now, if you get a chance to put a little extra lick on an opponents butt, and on your mind is, some garbage some fan of that school wrote on a blog, you just might be tempted to do so. Maybe not illegal but certainly, along the lines of, “You will remember me now”.
If you think that is not so, ask anybody who has been involved in a war, thinks about revenge. You do not simply want to defeat your enemy, you want to destroy them. It is as simple as you killed some of the men in my unit, so you must pay for it. It gives you that little extra edge you need sometimes. Competitive sports and the players are no different in that respect, to a smaller degree. They want to make you pay, by beating and humiliating your team. Keep this in mind when you smack talk all the time on these blogs and cut down individuals. You feel a need to defend yourselves on these blogs and the players feel the need to defend themselves on the field.

It Aint’t Rocket Science,

Excellent comments! Being a Marine for the last 26 years, I have experienced those exact feelings in combat. These same feelings translate to the gridiron when these players read this mindless comments from bloggers who have no idea as to the character of said player(s). I for one will continue to support the staff and team that’s in place. And should the time arise, that this staff is to be replaced, then I will give my support to the next staff as well. I can say that UGA was closer to being a good team last year than what many people would give them credit for. A few ill-timed plays each game ended up costing them the game.

MarineDawg,

Thank you very much for your service to our country. People are just too judgmental about others sometimes, and I think it is just poor when people insult young kids like that in any medium. I wonder how many of them would spout off like that in the players presence? I would for one, hate to get on the wrong side of J. Jenkins for sure. This ole man is way to old to bend the way he might bend me. LOL.
