Washaun Ealey has not returned my phone calls seeking comment but Gentry Estes over at Dawgs247.com was able to talk to him. Here’s a link to that report (registration required).

Ealey
Ealey told Estes that the decision to transfer was as much his as it was Georgia’s and that the main reason he wanted to leave was not having to share carries with Caleb King, Carlton Thomas, Ken Malcome and, of course, incoming freshman Isaiah Crowell.
“I’m a person where I want to be a premier back,” Ealey told the website. “If I was to play here, I would have had to share the backfield with Caleb and Carlton also. Then they were going to try to give the freshman Isaiah his chance. He probably was going to get some carries at the beginning of the year too. I just felt like I didn’t want to be in that mix of things anymore.”
Ealey said the decision to leave “was best for me” and that he does not have a destination yet.
“I just wasn’t feeling the vibe, I guess,” he said.

Good move by Ealey.
Wasn’t a good fit for him. Go to Georgia State man.
We want you.

If you want to be the premier back, maybe try playing better? If you can consistently run really well and block, then you’re not gonna have to share carries. The only reason Ealey ever had to share carries was because he could never separate himself from the pack. Moreno was proof that Richt is willing to let one back be the premier back if he can separate himself from the pack.

Ealey should make a few notes to himself…..
Premier backs can do it ALL, including block on every play.
Premier backs shouldn’t fumble repeatedly inside the 20 in close games.
Premier backs shouldn’t have issues in high school (ECI) and continue to have issues once they arrive in the NCAA (leaving the scene of an accident, multiple clashes with the coaches.)
Premier backs are team players speaking of the team in a positive manner or they keep their mouth shut.
Agree with the comments above, had he done the right things, he could have earned the “premier back” status he craves. What a wasted opportunity.
Did someone above really compare Ealey to Herschel Walker? Really? Really?

Knowshon got a lot of carries, because he was a premier back. You haven’t proven to be a premier back with fumbling issues, off the field issues, and being unable to consistently beat the first guy. This is why you don’t have a new destination yet and will probably find yourself at a 1aa school at best.

Is this the same Ealey kid the dog fans were saying was so great the past two years, typical dog fans. Your great incoming freshman has the same character issues just ask the Calhoun fans he was giving the finger to. IC will be a bust too if the Calhoun defense can stop him i’m sure Alabama can.

GA does not need a premeir back. They just need someone to line up in the back field and block for Richt’s offense and Bobo’s QB’s to pass.

I’m also disappointed that Washaun wouldn’t stay and compete for the starting job. Being UGA’s starting tailback is a sweet job. Remember how Knowshon used to run a few plays and then wave to the sidelines to get a break. Who wouldn’t want to compete for that kind of sway???

You cant be a contender sharing RB’s….what is a hole for one is not for the other..Rotating is just saying you are not good enough….Take a look at the past NCAA champs an see who swaps the
backs….Ask Bama….when Ingram was the main back they won the big-one….Last year splitting
didn’t help…The the question is”WHY IS GA. RECRUITING ALL THESE BACK ANYWAY…

What exactly is a waushaun anyway? what kind of person who loves their child would put that scrabble-like name on a birth certificate. Good riddance. See ya, wouldn’t want to be ya. He’s jasper Sanks without the drug problem, but give him a couple of years and he’ll be jasper Sanks with the drug problem after it penetrates his monkey skull that he’s blown the chance of a lifetime for the fields of Stateboro or where ever he winds up. Ain’t nobody’s fault but his. Go ahead and make an appointment to get that big L tattoo’ed on your bulging proximal brow ridge, dooooosh bag. He’s JAFN.

Incredible to read those comments. what happened along the way to there is no I in team? He is a quitter pure and simple. He simply couldnt do the right thing so therefore he is taking his ball and going how. He could have humbled himself, contributed in the backfield and STILL made a name for himself in the eyes of the NFL. Really his family should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen, but judging his intelligence I am sure they were not able to help him make the right choice.

I think alot of people don’t realize how difficult it is to have a RB that can take over a game and get 30+ carries a game especially during a season.;..Walker and Jackson are two examples of RB’s that had the physical tools to do that. Very few can handle that…Even last season with Lattimore at SC you saw how he took a physical beating and it affected his play in many games during the season…Ealey is far from Walker or Jackson, or more recently Ingram at Bama….I also doubt if Crowell will be a 30+ carry a game RB….Its just too much pounding during a long season, so you have to share the load in most cases…yes there are exceptions, but they are few….Ealey is a good RB, but has some issues that he needs to resolve and then he can let his talent take over..One has to remember these guys come out of high school where they are the “man” and then they look around and realize that their competition were the “man” at their schools…Its who breaks away from that competition with extremely hard work ethics…We haven’t a RB take that role in the past few years…Maybe next season we willl…Good Luck to Mr. Ealey….I wish him well…go dawgs

I disagree, we should encourage all SEC schools on our schedule in two years to pick up Danny Ware, i mean, Ealey. He was terrible at UGA (except 09 GT game), why would you expect anything different against the dogs.

The days of 1 running back carrying the ball 30 or 40 times a game and lasting an entire season, especially in the SEC are pretty much over.
Especially when you are a prima donna, all about me, can’t park a car, workout skipping undersized running back who wants all the limelight but is not willing to work for it.

Ealey says it all with his brief statement above. He is not a team player and doesn’t realize to be a star, you have to perform like one both on the field and off. He, in my opinion, has just thrown away a promising career. He can only hope some team in the NFL, will be willing to take the chance on him, so wherever he goes, he better hope he gets the chance. I personally think Washburn is a wash out and needs to grow up. He is 21 or darn near that now and acts like a spoiled kid. Too bad for him and his future.

I do think that when a back has rhythm and all of the sudden is pulled out and replaced by another, its disruptive. When there is too much rotation, things like this will happen. This has gone both ways. Caleb has been hot and pulled to be replaced by Thomas. Same has happened to Ealy.
