Washaun Ealey has not returned my phone calls seeking comment but Gentry Estes over at Dawgs247.com was able to talk to him. Here’s a link to that report (registration required).

Ealey
Ealey told Estes that the decision to transfer was as much his as it was Georgia’s and that the main reason he wanted to leave was not having to share carries with Caleb King, Carlton Thomas, Ken Malcome and, of course, incoming freshman Isaiah Crowell.
“I’m a person where I want to be a premier back,” Ealey told the website. “If I was to play here, I would have had to share the backfield with Caleb and Carlton also. Then they were going to try to give the freshman Isaiah his chance. He probably was going to get some carries at the beginning of the year too. I just felt like I didn’t want to be in that mix of things anymore.”
Ealey said the decision to leave “was best for me” and that he does not have a destination yet.
“I just wasn’t feeling the vibe, I guess,” he said.

Dave, I think you’re over simplifying. To be the premier back and continue to get fed the ball, there are many factors that go into it. The ypc stat is misleading because the attempts are low. Ingram’s stats were 5.1, 6.1 and 5.5 each year. I think what is more important to look at is how many drive killing fumbles is he responsible for? How many sacks/hurried throws did he cause with missed assignments? How many times was he suspended and caused issues with the team?

Like I said, Dave. I really think you should have Chicik get Ealey in at Auburn, Chizik could cover up all his troubles, the kid could get paid and it would look like Chizik produced another miracle in instantly turning the troubled kid around and of course Ealey would not have to share carries.

Richt didn’t have any problem with AJ Green selling his jersey, but went nuts when Ealey did less reps than his plan suggested and suspended Ealey indefinately. Wierd. 2 standards. 1 for favorites, 1 for guys who beat out favorites. I knew Mettenberger would be forced out, after his dominated Richt’s favorite Murray, same for Logan Gray, and now Ealey dominating Caleb King 11 td’s to 2. Beat Richt’s favorite, he’ll make your life so miserable, you’ll transfer.
Richt likes entitlement instead of competition.
King 2 td’s, starting, over Ealey 11 td’s.
Huh?

Add Ealey to the list with jasper sanks, george lombard(who was a bust with the braves after backing out on UGA) and all the other busts that left uga early but not for the draft.

He might get into trouble but if he was to get into Auburn, it would gurantee him two trouble free years, unless he decided the $100.00 handshake money was not enough and decided that it would be cool to kick in someone’s door and rob them in their house.

Ealey got 6+ ypc in the 4th quarter, and got disciplined for “conditioning” problems. Ingram & Lattimore averaged less in the 4th.
Murray and AJ did nothing in the 4th quarter, gassed all season, both bottom of stats, but they’re allowed to coast.

Dave,
Spin it and twist it all you want. The bottom line is the guy did not want to do what it takes to be the featured back at a major Div 1 school. He had numerous off the field issues, missed punishment runs, lacked work ethic, etc. If you ask me, Richt went above and beyond what was necessary to give the kid an opportunity to succeed. The failure is Ealey’s……not Richt’s. And this is from a die-hard Gator.

I believe that except for Chris Durham we will find that last year’s departed-for-the-NFL’s were all “me-first:team last” guys including Green and that others like Ealey were poison. This year we are going to have leaders and teamwork. I expect a real difference.
And I expect the kid at safety, Conner Norman to emerge as one of the hero’s that restore UGA to glory on the gridiron. You read it here.

If he was better than the others he would be the premier back. Good luck at a Division II school where they will put up with his antics. Let’s get back to recruiting “character” and not “characters” like Jackie Sherrill did.

The young man’s attitude is just unbelievable. How in the world he ever became involved in any form of organized sports should be an enigma to anyone that read/heard his interview, as he has some serious issues. I would normally wish a former UGA student good luck & well wishes , but not to this egotistical bafoon. Glad you’re gone ,’cause evidently you were a big malignant tumor on the Dawgs posterier.

Rumors about Ealey’s “work ethic” are worthless.
The guy got 6.6 ypc in the 4th quarter, and was 3rd in the nation in 4th quarter td’s among backs.
He worked HARDER than anyone on the team, and outproduced in 4th quarter td’s anyone on the team.

Ealey’s attitude? Anytime Richt said ‘Win this game”, Ealey did it. Give him 20 carries, 100% of Ealey’s career at Georgia, you win the game.
Ealey saved Richt’s behind 2x, 1x vs. TECH IN 09′, 2x vs. Kent this season.
Both were MUST WN GAMES. Richt was in TROUBLE.
He turned to Ealey BOTH TIMES.
Ealey had his back.
Now this.

Dave, how is it working out for you? When you make up false storys about UGA and when you stretch the truth does it make you feel any better about all the ongoing problems at Auburn?
I don’t blame you for admiring a man like Mark Richt who is doing it the honest way, it must be a very strange and dumbfounding thing to try and understand for a fan of a program like Auburn who lies and cheats and has been doing it this way for more years than your daddy has been alive.
It may be best if you just left those things that you can’t understand alone, it can only lead to more misery and an even lower self esteem. Sorry about that ongoing NCAA investigation and everything but that’s just the nature of things while being an Auburn fan.

Last 4 Natl Champs, all SEC teams, run the ball 1st, Richt passes 1st.
Auburn ran a lot, got 280+ a game rushing, Richt didn’t run often, got 140 a game running.
Same for Florida, and Alabama the years they won.
You HAVE to run for 225+ to win the SEC today.
That’s why Richt’s done.

Everyone all calm down!
Good LUCK to Washaun and thanks for giving it a go at UGA.
Again – these young guys are maturing and having to do some real growing up. NO current tailback has separated themselves in terms of declaring the position of featured back.
If Washaun realizes that he will not be the featured back at UGA – and he see’s what he is competing against – then he is probably correct in going somewhere else to play football that is not as high level.

Hey Dave you do realize that King averages just about the same YPC right? How about this, subtract a TD from his total for every fumble within the 5 yard line. How many TD’s does he have now? He’s a prima donna! Get over it Dave!

Dave is a sad scary loner that posts the same crap every day on the AJC under many names. He is too stupid and unoriginal to come up with any names that are not generic male names so it is always obvious.
I guess when you have no life or job or friends or even the slighest potential to ever acquire any of these things it allows “Dave” countless hours to hang out at the library or other places with free access to a computer and post his pathetic meanderings.
I used to find him laughable now I just pity him because it is obvious he is hopelessly depressed and will probably be a suicide casualty sooner than later.

Earth to Washaun… not many teams in the SEC have one “premier back” these days. Mark Ingram shared the backfield with Trent Richardson in 2009 when the former won the HEISMAN TROPHY! Don’t think you can get any more premier than that.
Sounds to me like he knew he was going to get beat out by a harder working back, be it King, Boo or Crowell, and couldn’t face the thought of riding the pine pony.

DAVE – you can interpret stats anyway you want.
Here is the deal:
1. you can pass and win (see Florida – Spurrier)
2. You can run and win (see Alabama)
Bottom line – you have to use a good mix – as both of these teams have done.
Nothing wrong with setting up the PASS with the RUN.
Nothing wrong wtih setting up the RUN with the PASS!
UGA was better when we set up the RUN with the PASS – but ultimately we were balanced.
Last year – we tried to run first – unsuccessfully – then HAD to pass to try and win.

We need to give Dave a break because it’s gotta be hard being an Auburn fan with all the baggage that comes with it.
Dave knows that Auburn won’t win more than eight games this year and he knows that Ga is about to start another long run of victory’s against his tigers and with the NCAA investigation looming very large, he knows that his tigers are about to be put on probation again and let’s not mention that little brother syndrome with Alabama thing.

Hmm, why did Spurrier stop throwing it, and start going with a 1 back run 1st system when Spurrier’s the guy Richt points to as proof you can win passing the ball in the SEC?
Check the last 4 years. No team won the SEC weihout getting 220+ a game rushing average.
Spurrier will just keep on running the ball down Richt’s throat, while Murray TRIES, keyword, TRIES, to beat a winning team passing the ball, for once in his career.

Practice, lift weights, and play like a stud consistently and he would be the premier back. Sometimes you just got to cut a man loose when his prescense is not serving the greater good. Ingram and Richardson shared the backfield just fine. Even after Ingram won the Heisman, he still shared the backfield. Saban would never let one player become bigger than the team. Unlike Meyer who completely let Tebow become the face of the Gators.

Ealey heading to a team that runs the ball the most that can win a National Championship. Boise, Auburn, Miss St, UCF is interesting, they have a great QB who beat Murray as a Freshman in the Bowl game, and they run it 36x a game.
UGA? 75th in NCAA in runs per game.

Ealey’s competition at Georgia has been an inconsistent King, an undersized Thomas, and now a freshman that has had ZERO carries in college and ZERO experience at the college level. Ealey better transfer to a Division II school. If he couldn’t unseat the three aforementioned backs, what top tier school does he think he is going to that doesn’t have competition?
I read nothing more into this than he is not a true competitor and that we surely don’t need.
