UGA’s Justin Houston: ‘I’m feeling the pain of regret’

I still haven’t talked to Justin Houston and maybe I won’t. But he has addressed his sharp fall in the NFL draft and answered questions for reporters out in Kansas City.

Houston, a 6-3, 260-pound outside linebacker from Statesboro, entered the draft after his junior season at Georgia. Once projected as a late first- or early second-round selection, Houston slipped to the third round where the Chiefs took him with the sixth pick, or 70th overall.

“There are two types of pain I feel like you live with – pain with discipline and pain with regret, and right now I’m feeling the pain of regret with the decision, but I have to put it in the past, I need to move forward,” Houston told reporters. “I was very up-front with teams about the mistake that I made. I just want to put that behind me, perform, and learn from that mistake.”

If you’d like to hear more from Houston, follow THIS LINK to a long Q&A at KCChiefs.com.

I’m feeling the pain of having a coaching staff that puts up with such crap. I am pulling for them to turn this culture around. It will happen only when players are not allowed to get away with such stuff.

Based on our running game the last few years, three yards down field is looking pretty good.

Man, what an expensive high for Mr. Houston.

There is a reason they call it “dope”!

I must agree, if Mike Cavan doesn’t sign Walker Dooley is seen as just another average, non-descript coach.

And Dawgster is 100% correct; no apology is owed to some punk-butt smart-mouthed fan who thinks he is Red Smith and disrespects the coach of our football program. If you guys flush a coach after 2 down years, rest assured that Vince Dooley- a DGD, by the way- would not have lasted until Herschel got out of Johnson County High School. Trust me, 1977 and 1978 were just as bad if not worse than the last 2 years.

there are two kinds of mistakes…”dumb” and “stupid”…we all make the first kind because we don’t know its a mistake and we are doing our best to do the right thing … but the second kind, the kind you know better than to make, but make it anyway, is a killer…it can destroy you… there is NO tolerance for the second kind…and now, bless his heart, he is about to learn about the consequences of this simple truth

I am glad Richt is feeling the heat. I continue to believe that there are several so-called coaches who are at a level that they are not qualified for. Good people, loyal and perhaps even hard working. In over their heads, yes. The state of Georgia consistently produces an abundance of top-flight talent, if UGA got the top 25 or so every year with good coaching, we would be a top 10 team every year.

Keep your head up Justin, we all make mistakes in life and you have to just fight through it. Your gonna make a fine LB for the Chiefs and this will all be forgotten in time. Warren Sapp got busted with the same thing when he got drafted and he still had a great career.

Drug test never hold back UF players from going where they should.

What does Houston feel so bad about? He took off plays and so did the whole team. MR stated this about our puppies. Why?

Justin Houston: Great talent, no leadership, no character. Oh yes, no degree.

“If you are satisfied with last year’s results…..you are a blind loyalist.” I don’t personally know anyone who is satisfied with last year’s record not even the coaches and especially not Coach Ricth. But, it is what it is…last year’s record. Whatever steps that have been taken to “right the ship” are just that steps….The record next year has yet to be made….In time, it will be made, but to keep harping on the same old stuff, over and over, to me seems to just be plain stupid. There certainly seems to be an abundance of stupid on this blog.

Taking plays off was a far greater problem than the failed drug test.
