7 UGA football players victims of locker room theft

Athens — Seven football players were victims of thefts at Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall, University of Georgia police confirmed Monday.

Jamel Allen, Kenarious Gates, Abry Jones, Jordan Love, Rhett McGowan, Alexander Ogletree and Shawn Williams all reported that items totaling $1,330 were stolen out of their lockers last Thursday afternoon, according to police reports. No players are expected to have been involved in the thefts.

“We haven’t ruled anything out but have no reason to suspect that,” UGA Police Lt. Eric Dellinger said.

Last Thursday afternoon the normally heavily-secured building — which requires fingerprint identification to access – was unsecured for “faculty appreciation day.” Here is a link to a UGA video report on that event.

All the items stolen were small electronic devices. The most expensive single item to go missing was the Apple iPhone 4 with red and black otter box belonging to Jones. It was valued at $500. One other iPhone and several iPods also were taken.

“It’s not uncommon for thefts to take place in secured buildings during events like this,” Dellinger said. “The lockers they were taken from weren’t locked.”

So far UGA detectives don’t have any suspects.

How will Win With protect Master Murrey when he can’t protect his own locker room?

It couldn’t have been any Georgia Tech players! None of them are smart enough to read a map to get to Athens.

Glad to see the AJC finally allowing the moderator to step in. I’m sure it’s frustrating to have your bosses allow your work be turned into a poo-poo fight to sell a couple more tires. Odd though that NOW it’s a problem calling players names, when somebody slams TN players. The past 20,000 uses of that derogatory terms towards our boys didn’t do it.

The only thing the Auburn players stole was this team’s manhood.

This incident reminds me of the part of Full Metal Jacket where Gunny Sgt. Hartman goes nuclear on Private Pyle: “If there’s one thing in this world I hate, it’s an unlocked foot locker! If it wasn’t for d-heads like you there wouldn’t be any thievery in this world, would there?” Enough said.

Hey people-
this happens everyday in lovker rooms across the country. Gyms, and especially high schools have this issue.
Ultimately, the only thing that will come of this is that these boys just learned a valuable lesson.. I guarantee they lock their stuff up for the rest of their lives!

Richt has problems with himself…..Cortney Newmans played/redshirt for UGA 4yrs (2007-2011) his father passed on sunday night…Players begged to go be with Cortney in Macon Ga …Monday…and he would not release them from Spring Practice earlier…Some players went after practice…..but no coach came or called….the reason this team has so many problems is because the head they play for play God in the public is not as Godly as people think…

WDE, I bet you’re one of those Awbarn fans that have that tiny little NC sticker in the back window huh? It’s just so fellow Awbarn fans know you’re a fan too but not too big that other fans rip you about it? There has never been a more tainted NC and it will be even more tainted down the road. I have an Awbarn buddie (a graduate) that to this day has never mentioned the NC. Why is that? Yes, you stole the 2nd half kick-off. sCam has that to go with his stolen laptop huh? 3 of the last 4 baby!!

“In other news, a Georgia football player picked some flowers today for a little old lady and handed them to her as she walked her dog through beautiful downtown Athens. Coach Richt applauded this action and noted how it demonstrates his commitment to institutional control of his program and the development of fine young men in Athens.”

Is that better? and it’s interesting news too…sign me up for stories like that each day!!

A few years ago a UGA professor tried to take a cell phone away from a 280 pound lineman who was cheating with it in class. She got roughed up. Those cell phones and i pods are important for Richt’s players and used more than text books, apparently.

So far UGA detectives don’t have any suspects.

The suspects are every athlete at UGA. These so-called detectives have to be intelligent enough to know that.

Yes, a few year back a highly regarded true frosh UGA LB grabbed the arm of a prof when she tried to take a cell phone away from him. Where is he now? Did he make another team? They did the right thing kicking him out but for sure we all get second and third chances in the USA but where is he now?

The player who assaulted the instructor was not kicked off the team for that incident. He was referred to the disciplinary committee and given a soft slap on the wrist. The instructor, a graduate assistant, was “discouraged” by Adams’ underlings when she planned to press civil charges. The player did withdraw after the football season for reasons unrelated to the assault and cheating incident.
