I always hate reading stats after a scrimmage. When the offensive stats are lopsided you fear the worst for the defense and vice versa.

But I am just glad to be reading something.

Looking VERY forward to next Saturday, and hoping the weather cooperates. Not looking good on the 10 day forecast as of now. But things change quick in the spring Georgia air.

I think we all know stats don’t mean squat during a spring scrimmage, but from what I hear the team is already getting their minds ready for Boise State. That’s good. UGA could be a 7 point underdog coming into that game. Don’t see it, but that’s what I understand.
Now let’s hope the Braves take to the Philly’s again!

Very encouraging to see both Mason & Lemay outplay Murray. Not surprised. Good to see some gamers there at QB. Mason 3 td’s, spectacular. Lemay, 100% accurate, no int’s, td on 2 passes? Holy cow.

Turns out Richt’s prognosis of Lemay being way behind Murray was off by a mile. Reminds me of last Spring when Murray was heralded all Spring, and the other QB’s Gray & Mett were said to be way behind.

Looks like Lemay & Mason are getting better response from receivers and teammates than Murray.

Mason needed to go to a school that would let him throw 60 times a game and not mind if he throws 3 interceptions. He will never play ahead of Murray as long as he just throws the ball just to be throwing it. Maybe the receiver will catch it whether he is open or not, attitude. CMR would rather the QB only throw 1 touchdown with no interceptions than 3 touchdowns with 3 interceptions. CMR will never change his offense philosophy to that of a shoot out. CMR will run the ball as many times a game as throw the ball. If Mason wants to impress CMR then he need to take less chances so he want have such a poor interception ratio. He had 3 interception against defensive backs that are 2nd and 3rd string. Most of the 1st team didn’t even play. You can’t praise LeMay yet he didn’t even play very much. He is still learning the play book. But, if LeMay proves he can complete at least 60% of his pass with no interceptions I hope that CMR will let him play. As short as Murray is he will never be a success as a pocket passer , he will need to roll out most of the times. If he stays in the pocket he needs to decide quicker if he is going to throw or run. Murray was too slow last year deciding which to do. Hesitating even for a few seconds will let the defense close any creases that were open.

There were no stats reported on the last scrimmage, which was smart.

Scrimmage stats tell NOTHING. Any good play on offense could have been a slip-up from the defense. You don’t know what the set-ups were, if a play was an experiment, how new it was, if it will ever be used in a game, etc, etc.

For those of you actually reading anything into these numbers, you are clueless.

Very excited about this upcoming season. There are so many improvements to this team in the offseason.

1) No offseason arrests so far
2) S & C seems to really be working based upon Size and strength differential from last year
3) Year 2 of CTG defense. Both players and coaches are more familiar with the system
4) IC presence will make WE and CK better because of competitiveness. IC is homerun threat we’ve been missing
5) Johnathon Jenkins and Jarvis Jones should be difference makers on defense
6) DB should be much improved this year.
7) We have best TE tandem in the nation
8) Really like the idea of huge fb in short yardage situations plus he should be a good threat receiving out of the backfield
9) OL will be much improved this year. Sturdivant is fully health. Jones and Glenn will be better.I really like KG too.
10) We should have best kicking duo in nation
11) Attitude seems to be much improved and we’re hungry
12) Schedule is much easier. We don’t play LSU or Al. Plus Auburn and Florida will be down bigtime this year.

Overall, i think we should be able to win the east this year.

He may turn out to be our go-to guy during the season. Keep working hard young man and you’ll have a very good career here at UGA.

I’m also impressed with the defense. With MANY of our projected starters we held them to a low rushing total and picked off QBs 2 times. Remember, our defensive recruits haven’t gotten here yet (Jenkins, Drew, etc). Jenkins is the key clog. What we see out there on G-day won’t be anything like we’ll see against Boise and so on. Jenkins is going to change everything.

Gator Gus,

Murray lit up Florida’s defense. He’s better than Brantley, so I wouldn’t talk too quickly. He’s only going to get better. My gosh guys, what do you expect in a spring scrimmage? Over 400 yards passing and 5 TD’s? He only threw the ball 16 times. He splits reps. In an actual game, he will throw that pigskin about 30 times. Then he’ll have over 300-400 yards passing. He was 11-16 and 1 TD, key thing though is that he threw NO picks.

If he was 1-16, and only throwing for 50 yards and no TDs but 3 picks then I’d be worried. But those are manageable stats. Greg McElroy (Alabama QB) never lit it up with stats, but he’s gotta ring. Talk what you know.

When Carlton Thomas is your leading rusher with only 26 yards, we have a major problem on our hands. What if Murray completed his first 6 and then they decided to try some new wrinkles they haven’t worked on yet or wanted to get other guys reps? You really have no idea what you’re talking about. You weren’t there unless you are in good with the staff and you didn’t see it with your own eyes in that case. I’m not saying Lemay isn’t good or potentially great…but to say that Murray isn’t any good or 3rd best or fading is freaking moronic. I mean for real you have got to be pretty darn dumb to really think that you know what’s up with everything involved. Really Erik? “Looks like Lemay & Mason are getting better response from receivers and teammates than Murray.” Yeah….right. Obviously 2 for 2 and one long pass on a broken play are great stats compared to the guy who was arguably the best SEC Freshman QB in conference history, and really help him earn a spot ahead of Murray. 11-16. Gosh, just awful right? and 1 TD to NO PICKS is much worse than 3 TDs to 2 picks on more passes. Are you that ignorant or do you just rent out that space between your ears. It’s the friggin SPRING man. Look around. You’re supposed to let your subs play more and give your starters a break. Their load will come in the Summer and Fall. Not to take anything from Mason and Lemay because I think they’re both exceptional, but come on. Murray’s one of the best QBs in the country, and the only reason we won the few games we did last year. Even Greene, Stafford, or Shockley would have struggled with that lack of a running game and a weak defense. Quit acting like you know anything about football and get off the sports page.

I like to figure how effective each QB was by looking at their touchdown per play ratio.

Lemay had a td every 2 plays.
Mason threw a td every 6 plays
Murray threw a td every 16 plays

If you project that out over a 13 game season, let’s say 250 passes:
125 td’s for Lemay
42 td’s for Mason
16 td’s for Murray

Has anyone thought about the fact that we may have a dominating front seven this season. Add to that some injuries at running back and our defense is really starting to shut the run down. It’ll be interesting to see the battle between the Boise passing game and our secondary if we really shut down the run game against them… It’ll primarily come down to our pass rush at that point. I think our offense will outpower their defense after having to face our front seven all fall camp. SC front seven will be a different story. Remember two seasons ago we started big Bean at guard against them and were able to run very effectively. Didn’t have him last season plus we were weak. This year we be strong like bull….dawg

Scrimmages don’t matter.

Rob

Another way to compare apples to apples is look at the yards per pass attempt:

Lemay: 33 yards per pass attempt
Mason: 10 yards per pass attempt
Murray: 8 yards per pass attempt

This tells you Murray was throwing a bunch of short passes, trying to get his accuracy numbers up, where Lemay was going long, and Mason had a nice mix.

Rollie

April 9th, 2011
3:22 pm

Last G-Day, Mettenberger beat Murray handily, so did Gray for that matter.

Mettenberger went on to have an 11-1 season, murray had a 6-7 season, so G-Day preidcited their win totals.

Rollie

April 9th, 2011
3:26 pm

Murray threw for 1 td last G-Day, and that went on to become his average against ranked teams. Murray threw for 1 td a game against ranked teams on the average, he passed for 5 td’s all season against ranked teams. G-Day kind of pointed to that, he seemed to be a guy that sort of wilted under the spotlight.

Rob

April 9th, 2011
3:28 pm

If you compare passing accuracy, based on today:

#1 Lemay–completed 100%
#2 Murray–completed 69%
#3 Mason–completed 63%

Juke N Jiver

April 9th, 2011

Mason’s 5 td’s versus Murray’s 3 td’s, over 2 Spring scrimmages so far.

Mason is throwing 60% more td’s than Murray so far.

Juke N Jiver

April 9th, 2011

If Mason’s throwing 60% more td’s than “the greatest freshman QB of all-time Murray”, says a lot about Mason. And it says a lot of about Murray’s LACK of development this year. Looks like Mason caught him, and is leaving him behind.

At the end, the choice will be who can complete more complicated drives and formations, and only after actually analyzing those plays and defense employed in the video room that you can determine who did better. Lemay has not been given the opportunity yet to throw a lot of passes so these remains incomplete and I hope he does. If the interceptions on Mason is turned into points, then these negates his edge in touchdown over Murray.

You’re probably right, why would they want to do their best with the first team offense against the first team defense which, incidentally, they played against. That makes a lot of sense. Idiots…..

And I’m not sure what games you people watched last year that think Murray is no good because you were apparantly watching one of thos old dial tune black and white TVs and didn’t quite hit the station. Freshman All American, Offensive MVP, Second most yards by a freshman in SEC history (compared to some big names), etc, etc, etc….

Again, you people are idiots.

Murray says he likes to be like Brady and not Marino, so far last season he is showing the opposite.

Sure, Murray averaging 1 td per game against 6 ranked teams last year was ana amazing display, perhaps the greatest in the history of college football. What were you people watching. 1 td a game, unreal. He’s in another zone.

You do realize that the receivers actually have to get to the endzone before the QB gets credit for a touchdown, don’t you? You also realize Murray’s completion passing efficiency was 14th nationally and fourth in the SEC? Seems to me he did hit his target. The points were there, I personally couldn’t care less if they come at the hands of the quarterback or the running game. If you score 4 or 5 touchdowns in a game but only 1 was a pass does that mean the others don’t count? Did anyone notice that Murray ran a few that were pretty spectacular?

Oh, but he didn’t throw it to himself. My bad…….

Hopefully, Murray will be better than 86th in pass effic in the red zone this year.

Maybe Murray will be better than:
55th on 3rd down pass effic.
53rd on 3rd & 10.
59th in the 4th quarter in pass effic.
81st in passing accuracy against winning teams.
119th in passing accuracy in 4th quarter against winning teams

Certainly has a LOT to work on.

Besides being ranked #55-119 in red zone, 3rd down, 4th quarter, passing accuracy, going 6-7, 0-6 against ranked teams, 4 turnovers against the biggest rival Florida, Murray had a great year last year.

Any Georgia QB on the roster could have averaged more than 1 td a game against ranked teams with AJ Green, Tavarres, Durham & Charles. Not Murray.

You guys are nuts. Your QB plays soccer, carries a purse, and puts gel in his hair. The only other person that relates to that is your fake tan, blonde hair tinted, part down the middle, Boca head coach. The whole conference is laughing at ya’ll!! It’s obvious the team relates better to Mason and LeMay than Murray. At least you better hope so! Why don’t ya’ll just end the charade and change your jersey color to pink

The guy was a freshman! He still had a fantastic year QB wise. Our problems in the red zone were due to the lack of a running game. If they know you cannot run it they play pass coverage in a short area but some of you bafoons don’t understand. I have never seen a bigger bunch of morons! Murray will be the QB next year and UGA will win at least ten next year. Live with it! You are either with us or against us! So climb on or STFU!

Since you don’t know the context these very unofficial stats occurred in it is safe to say that only an idiot can discern what all the trolling nerds get out of these stats, but then that makes sense from a bunch of jock sniffers. I know the little guys who troll with the Aaron Murray meme think they are really clever, but the truth is that not only is he the best QB at UGA, he is also the best in the SEC. But we’ll see. He sure did bliister the nerds last year didn’t he?

We do not need a freshman QB in 2011! Cant throw INT’s so Mason failed so far ….Lemay threw 2 passes….wow. A 1 yarder and a 66 yard busted play…so it is still Murray as starter and will be when opening day rolls around. One will likely get backup and the other will be red-shirted, maybe both will be since Murray will likely start the next 2 years at least. I mean the job is up for grabs every year and should be, but Murray has a year of experience that is invaluable and he should only be better this year. These 2 guys would set the team back if they were to start at this point. I hope both can be red-shirted and then there can be a free-for-all battle next year for starter. We do not need a freshman QB in 2011 people! This is the SEC…

Did you watch LSU’s spring game?

Mett is 3rd string just like I said.

HE WILL NEVER PLAY AT LSU.

He will sit behind Jefferson this year and they have already recruited over him for next year and beyond.

Richt was right about him.

Aaron Murray had the best freshman season for QBs in the entire NCAA last year, and by all accounts, enters this season as the #1 QB in the SEC. You folks chanting “Hutson Mason” and “Lemay” are out of your minds.

If you think mason and Lemay outplayed Murray you are wrong. Murray was obviously consistent and had not interceptions. Lemay’s TD was on a broken play and his other pass was one yard. Mason Looks kind of like joe cox – great numbers, too many ints

What in the hell are you morons talking about? lemay as the starter over Murray? what planet are you people from? Murray was the most consitent player on the field for us all season and had one bad game all year (Fla). He is the best ball handler at QB since tarkenton. He tied a season td mark with aj out half the season and no running game all year, not to mention the poor play of the offensive line. You people are truly idiots. I love the ones who say “from what i am hearin” or “someone close to the program told me”. You dont know crap. This is how baseless rumors are started.

You are right on. I posted a similar comment earlier. Unless Murray gets hurt or has a shark bites his throwing arm off, he is the starter. Best freshman QB rating in the nation last year.

What is with all of the Murray haters? Give me a break. He is the one good thing about UGA football. The knuckheads that put him at the bottom of the order are fools. Murray is the starter, period. Richt isn’t going to risk what could be his career at UGA next year playing a freshman as a starter. Murray has the potential to break all the QB records if he stays 4 years. Mason had good numbers in scrimmage, EXCEPT for the 2 INTS? Come on folks. Remember Joe Cox? The guy had great numbers, until you look at his INTS. Those killed us. Lemay — he threw 2 passes. If you put a guy at the top of your list after two good passes in scrimmage, you are an idiot.

Kevin and WTF, you are absolutely right. Murray is the best sophomore QB in college football, and maybe best overall. His numbers prove that. Murray would have to be out from injury before Richt is going to play another QB. I can only see Richt playing one of the two freshman this season unless we have two QB injuries. One will likely get playing time early if we are blowing someone out, but other than that don’t expect to see them. What will be interesting is to see who gets played in that situation.
It is crazy to think that Murray did so well without going to Green all season or Charles. Think how good this season will be if Charles and King step up.
