It’s almost time for Mark Richt and Mark Fox to hit the road on their annual spring speaking tour, which this year has been expanded to 11 stops in four states in conjunction with the UGA Alumni Association and Bulldog Club chapters.
The tour begins with an appearance April 20 in Savannah and includes stops in Jacksonville (April 21), Augusta (April 27), Macon (April 28), Columbus (May 5), Greenville, S.C. (May 11), Charlotte (May 12), Gainesville (May 17), Dalton (May 19) and Albany (May 24). Then, after a two-month break, the tour will conclude in Atlanta (July 25 at the Cobb Galleria).
The events, open to the public, begin with a social hour at 6 p.m., followed by a program at 7 p.m.
The out-of-state spots were selected because of the large number of UGA fans and alumni there. According to Dave Muia, the UGA Athletic Association official who oversees fund-raising and alumni relations, Greenville and Charlotte were the top two out-of-state cities this year in terms of contributions to the Hartman Fund, which is Georgia’s fund-raising vehicle tied to football season tickets.
The Charlotte appearance, by the way, will be at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
Richt is scheduled to attend all 11 stops on the tour, while Fox is scheduled for all except Albany and possibly Augusta. Another member of the men’s basketball staff will speak when Fox can’t attend.
A full schedule of events, specific locations and contact information can be found by clicking here.
And for a flavor of the events, here’s a story I wrote from last year’s tour.

@Dawgs eat their own poop: Defensive? Hey, it’s yours – you own it. I don’t think you will find many UGA alumni wishing they went to the Barn or would have anything to do associated with it. The fullness of time will tell the tale. In the meantime if I were you I would be more worried about the upcoming games on the field than anything else.

Well – Richts your coach – we at Florida love him!!!!
If you new AD is anything like the one we have – Richt will be gone if they areIRRELEVENT AGAIN this year.
UGA has had some embarrassing losses the last few years – this team has been passed by in the SEC to where they are a bottom half team.
I think UGA is a 7 win team in 2011:
Wins: College of Charleston, Vandy, New Mexico State, Kentucky
50/50 – Ole Miss, Tennessee, GA Tech
Probable Losses: Boise State, South Carolina
Losses: Mississippi State, Florida, Auburn
UGA needs to get off to a big start against Boise State and South Carolina
– Lose Both – UGA fans will be ready will have run out of patience
– Win both – UGA could get momentum.
After 2005 – I thought it was a matter of time before he got UGA to a National Title – but the reality is he los twhat he was all about when he arrived in Athens. He became a CEO and deferred the program to assistants – cashed his big checks – and the program dropped to the bottom half of the SEC. He became less hands on.
I would say the minimum amount of wins to keep his job – including bowl game – is 9. Even 9 wins may not be enough. 10 wins – he prbably stays.
If I was a UGA fan – and if UGA wins 8 games of less – then I would WANT change in leadership. Too nice of a school – too much tradition – to nice of a stadium – too much support from fans – too much money being spent – to be a midpack SEC team.
I would not be afraid of change – a hungry hands coach is what is needed to make UGA relevent.
