ATHENS – Georgia’s football team held its first scrimmage of the spring Saturday morning in Sanford Stadium, and coach Mark Richt had no complaints afterward.
“I thought today was outstanding, really outstanding, in regard to the guys playing with a lot of energy,” Richt said. “Some really nice plays on both sides of the ball.”
Georgia didn’t keep statistics on the scrimmage, which was closed to the public and media. Richt offered these observations afterward:
Harton in spotlight
Harton, who is from Tattnall County, said he had opportunities to play college football at Georgia Southern and Charleston Southern, “but I really wanted to play for Georgia.” So he enrolled at UGA and walked on last summer as a wide receiver. He said he asked the coaches “if it’d be all right” to switch to running back this spring.
“Obviously everyone here is good, but you just have to go out every day and work hard,” said Harton, who is Ealey’s cousin. “And whenever you get your opportunity, you’ve got to take advantage of it.”
Teammates enjoyed Harton’s moment in the limelight Saturday.
Murray said Harton “had a nice run where he, like, ducked under two guys fast as heck, and he was gone.” Charles said Harton “was breaking runs and making everybody excited.”
Etc.
Among players who didn’t participate in the scrimmage: fullback Bruce Figgins (stiff neck), linebacker Richard Samuel (rib injury) and tight end Aron White (unknown injury). . . . Safety Bacarri Rambo, expected to miss the rest of spring practice because of a sprained MCL, was not at the scrimmage. Rambo was attending his sister’s wedding, Richt said. . . . Murray said offensive coordinator Mike Bobo “had some every positive words” for the offense after the scrimmage. “You know it’s a pretty good day when he has some good comments to say,” Murray said. . . . Linebacker Christian Robinson said the defensive line “has really stepped up.”

2 years is what I give this coaching staff. If they can’t win the NC in two years, then they never will under this administration. The next two seasons the schedules are very favorable with a bye week before Florida. But if we fall flat it will mostly because we need a new offensive playcaller, start out way to slow at the begining of the season, and uh oh yeah, can’t beat Florida!

I am not talking down to anyone “dawgfan” Some of us that went to the school, support them through thick and thin. I am simply illustrating that this guy needs to let his team win it on the field and not insult the team that has a 1-0 record against his team. And that one win was a slaughter
To your other point, I was at the bowl game (and every other game except 2) and it was an awful performance. I agree we cannot play like that ever again and have a shot at beating any one. I do not think we will be playing like that any time soon.

Fair enough AltamahaDawg. Let’s talk about this year. I think we go 7-5. I just don’t think we have the horses up front to succeed in the SEC. Also, Bobo is a mediocre playcaller that routinely gets whipped by high quality defenses. More than anything though, I don’t think our players have what it takes between the ears to win champioships. These guys just don’t get it, and that falls on Richt. How do you and JE see us doing any better? You know, since you guys are such better fans than me I’m sure you’ve got some insight that I don’t. Where am I wrong? In answering that question remember that we just went 14-11 the past two seasons and 2007 was a looooong time ago.

Very exciting news from Richt. This offense that couldn’t score a t.d against S.C. in the first game, nor could it score a T.D. against C.Florida in the last game, has a walk-on midget as the highlight for the offense. This offense will be a joke again with booboo and Richt leading the way. And the defense sounds like it has really improved against the run. If i hear one more comment from Christian Robinson i will throw up. This guy runs his mouth and makes comments everyday, and he wouldn’t even be starting if two other linebackers hadn’t have disappeared from the team. When you have a backup linebacker being the leader of your defense you are in serious trouble. No linebackers with any experience does not bode well in the SEC. But, hey UGA has a midget running back as a secret weapon when booboo wets the bed against S.C.

Dawgfan, glad to see there are some UGA fans that don’t drink the Richt kool-aid, and can face reality. The reality is UGA has been a non-factor in the SEC and the national picture for 3 years running. There is nothing to think that will change with the returning players and coaches. There are no playmakers on offense or defense coming back from last year’s team, and unless i missed something there are no better coaches coming back. Our only playmakers on offense and defense from last year have declared for the NFL. And for all of you fans that think Murray is God, maybe you should look at his stats against good defenses in the SEC. He was average at best. Maybe the 3 interceptions against Fl. make you feel better about this guy. Our best Q.B.will be wearing an LSU uniform this year, not a UGA one. And we can thank Reverend Richt for that!!

UGA season 2011 will look something like this!
UGA 38 – Boise St. 17 We are too big and physical for them. More speed at every position and our boys are starving for this game. It may get uglier than this! 1-0
UGA 28 – USCe 20 We pick right up were we usually begin our SEC season, By beating them in a close game. They beat UGA once every 4-5 years and that happened LY. 2-0
UGA 48- Coastal Carolina 7 no explanation needed. 3-0
UGA 37- Ole Miss 21 Coupla late scores pile it on but the Dawgs win on the road. 4-0
UGA 24 – Miss. St. 13 Mullen will have them ready but the Dawgs will not lose this one at home after losing to them LY. 5-0
UGA 41 – UT 24 I think UT will score with Bray NY but his mistakes will cost them. 6-0
UGA 28 – Vandy 10 We take them light and they keep it close! 7-0
UGA 31 – UF 20 UF is a mess TY. We take them down! 8-0
UGA 49- NMST. 0 Starts a string of 4 home games to end the season. 9-0
UGA 38 – Awbarn 21 Boy are they in for it NY. They lose sooo much that they will have a season like UT LY! 10-0
UGA 27 – UK 13 This ain’t roundball. We take this sport! 11-0
UGA 42 – GT 9 with no missed FG’s LOL UGA 12-0
The most worrysome game to me is actually the Miss. St. game. Mullen can coach and will have them ready. There are too many home games and too much turmoil with our big rivals for us to not take advantage of them this year. I also think this team is preparing better than any we have had the last 5 years or so. Take note that we have no arrests and no off field drama TY! Go Dawgs!!

UGA had a lot of distractions LY. They broke in a freshman QB, a new defensive scheme, and a whole new D-line. With all the off field problems and new schemes they were in every game. This year they have had no, none, zero distractions. When they step out of line they are being kicked back into place. They are a talented bunch of young guys that just needed to get a little hungry and put in place. this year will be a good year for the Dawgs. the desire to overcome a poor showing LY and the extra work they are putting in will be enough to overcome those close calls TY. We will play for the SEC Championship NY!

If we open up the tight end game like the late 90’s and early 2000’s, we will have a better chance to beat some folks. Charles is a mismatch for a ton of defenses out there. Folks, Auburn and any other winning team has a heap of Seniors and Juniors. MR has not had a team with alot of juniors and seniors. MR had some other coaches player that were dam good leaders. I believe MR is the man for the job. I just think he let his team run over him for to many seasons. It is going to cost him his job in the long run. Coaches like Saban and Meyer are out for blood and they bleed football. Auburn had a bunch of punks that were paid highly.

UGA is going to have a good rebound year in 2011. The D will be like night and day different from last year with the addition of Big Jonathan Jenkins and I watched some practices last year… the two baddest linebackers didn’t even play in gameday last year. The o-line is bigger and stronger already and by the end of summer they will be fun to watch. If our tailbacks step up this year we should be in really good shape. The tightend moved to full back will be fun to watch as well. This guy is big and fast…like the NYG fullback. UGA will definitely improve this year but it may be a little slow with Boise and USC early. Boise is coming in with confidence but I really don’t think they will be able to handle the size and speed like in ‘05. They could get lucky but the entire coaching staff knows what is on the line…not likely to happen. Dawgs win a close one in the opener and gain momentum as the year goes on. UF gets a beat-down by most this year. Oh yeah, UF is 17-20 recently…only 5-6 more wins and they’ll finally catch up! Gay-turds have their worst year since Pell was there!

When Joe Cox was at the helm, Charles was the second best option behind Green, and he rarely ever received the ball. Bobo has made some very questionable play calls, that have been well documented by journalist, fans, and plenty of Monday Morning Quarterbacks, so I believe it was lack of realization for the player he was. Good enough to be on the field, but I don’t believe they had much faith they wanted to put on him. He is definitely better than the amount of times he gets the ball, so his utilization is poor in my eyes. Gotta get him the ball like A.J. I believe.

I love my Dawgs, but we’ve heard this before about so and so looking good and so and so doing this or that in practice.
CMR also said before the Liberty bowl that we had quote “exceptional practices”.
Everyone knows how that turned out and how we stunk up the place.
I’m not excited about nothing. Why should we believe that it will be better than last year?
How about beating Florida and SC and Boise and then maybe the talk will actually mean something.

It is not going to get us anywhere. You sound like that radio guy in Macon who calls himself a huge dawg fan and talked so much crap that Richt won’t even talk to him anymore.
Dawgfan… I see our strength and conditioning getting alot more on track. I see our LB corps being way better than it was last yeat. I see us actually having some punch up front in the middle with Geathers or big JJ. I am excited to see what a stable of top RBs can do with a more experienced Murray. I think Ogletree’s move will be huge to get some more top personnel out on the field. And the overall ability to have more instinctiveness in the 3-4 scheme. But besides all of that I do not see any real reason for optimism.

The DAWGS are going to have a good year I believe. Their defense will improve now that it has been installed for a year and we have the plug in the middle. I think the linebackers are going to be really good also, but I think they probably will have to shore up the safeties a little and see who will emerge as the leader back there.
The offense I believe will have an improved running game, with just the present cast, but one of them will have to step up and take the lead. If Ealey can stay healthy and maintain a good attitude, he could be the one. I don’t think his physical skills have ever been in question. It has been his attitude and I think he is now on the right page. King appears to have stepped up also, so he should be a capable back up. Of course, Crowell, progressing fast, would also be a real plus, but I don’t see him starting as number one for the season anyway. Murray I believe will have another good year and I think by subtraction of A.J. Green, the receiver corp. has actually gotten better. One receiver should not be counted on for 50% or better of the offense as UGA did last year.
I also believe CMR will be much more active on the sidelines this year, and much more involved in the offense. He is a smart enough man to know, what it takes to win, and we should see a lot less predictable offense this year.

I think Ealey is a head case plain and simple. King just was never that good to begin with. Crowell could be real good, but I think he has some character issues. He was seen acting a little like a spoiled brat in the High School Playoff games. If things were not going well he developed a TUDE.

There is no need for name calling or rude insinuations. First of all I have been critical of CMR and Bobo in the past, when things are not working. Each year is a new start. We have different circumstances with personel, experience, simple growth as men, etc. I am no fool. I am simply willing to take things at face value and evaluate the product each new season. I am not saying we will go undefeated. I am not saying we will have ten wins. I am just saying we should support our leaders. Just like our President… I cannot stand him as my President but I support him as the Commander in Chief of my nation and, in turn, my military. Dawg fans have so many excuses why Richt can’t coach and why BooBoo can’t call plays. Now we are blaming last season on distractions. And now it’s one bad season by Saint Richt. I guess having a selective memory is what all Dawg fans have to have now, because there isn’t much to brag about the past 3 seasons. I hate to tell you Shawn but did you watch the 2008 team against Bama, Florida, and Tech? Or did you watch as Richt and BooBoo gave the Q.B. job to Cox, and as bad as he was, never gave one of the freshman Q.B’s a chance to get any experience at all. That is terrible coaching not to give either of your freshman backups any reps at all to get them prepared for the upcoming season. Then of course we have last year where UGA and Murray didn’t beat a team all year with a winning record. Murray got his yards and T.Ds against teams with losing records. Just stating facts, not grasping at straws like most delusional fans. It is hard to get excited about anything Richt says anymore, because he has said this for the past 4 preseasons. I would just be glad for this coach and his staff to put a competitive team on the field, one that plays with passion, and a team whose players know where they are suppose to line up, and know where they are suppose to be on each play. My God, our secondary was so out of positon last year that is was pathetic. And now we have all of those same guys coming back this year. We can only hope that they have it between the ears now.

Dawg4ever(except in tough times), I watched those three games and all the other games for the past 20 years as I am truly a Dawg forever! We were whipped along both lines in those games. That tends to happen when You have so many injuries that You have to play a 3rd string D-lineman at LT because all other options have been lost to injury for the season. We also had evry available big body trying to replace the D-line side of the ball and LB corps due to injury. We had 28 players with at least 5 starts in their history go down to season ending injuries that year and still finished in the top 10. I would have to tip my cap to a coach who pulled that off. Compare that season to Saban’s LY and You will see that he had the same 10-3 record with 11 returning starters on O and far less injuries. Not one Bama fan is complaining. I think they need You to go over to their blogs and straighten them out. Tell them how terrible their coach is.

Many GT fans argue that “UGA fans are always dreaming to win the SEC”. Fine, I’ll go with that. So, would you rather have a dream for the SEC title and what usually follows that, or the ACC title, where you end up 23rd nationally and in the Urange Bowl or the Gator Bowl? On second thought, that scenario cannot be accurate, because the Gator DUMPED the ACC last year, contractually.
UGA is big boy ball win or lose. I will prefer to take my chances in the SEC and all that
comes with that. ACC ? Please ……………

Does CMR keep his job if UGA goes 9-3 with another ugly loss to Florida, Boise and say, Auburn? That might keep UGA in the thick of the East race but would that and say, an Outback Bowl allow him to stay and would the alumni want that?
If CMR goes 10-2, with a loss to Boise and either to SC or AU, UGA would likely be in the hunt for the East and a Cap One Bowl bid or better. 10-2 with 1 SEC loss and a major NY Day bowl like the Cap One would do it.
If UGA were to some how win the East and have another loss to Florida …………would that do it? That ( with a loss to Boise St) 10-2 scenario and a Cap One bid might also guarantee his return. A loss to Florida with them in transition might not do it, however. It would depend on how igh UGA woulds be ranked in this alst scenario.
Go Dogs.

Dawgfan and Dawg4ever…I feel for both of you; waking every morning and going thru your days with such negativity. I’ll bet yall are just joys to be around.
NCs are pipe dreams. About 154 other teams weren’t NCs last year; or the year before or the year before… With your reasoning, most of the top programs in the country should fire their coaches. An SEC championship IS an attainable goal. Win the SEC and the rest follows…maybe. As one blogger pointed out, a NC is mythical anyway since there’s no playoff system.
Since the scrimmage was not open to the public nor the media, what do you expect coach Richt to say? It was one scrimmage. He was asked questions and he responded.
Many of us “fans” think the Dawgs will be improved; and there’s every reason to believe so. If you think they’ll have another terrible season; so be it. For all of you downgrading Central Florida, they ended the season in the top 25. Central Florida is also the largest school, by student body, in the country. They would probably be more competitive in the SEC than Vandy and maybe even Kentucky.
I won’t predict a number of wins nor losses this year. However, I will predict that the Dawgs will be more competitive and have a lot better season than last year. I’ll root for em thru think and thin. That’s not delusional; that’s being a fan…IF you also believe that CMR and staff are actually pretty good at what they do. I do. For some, winning is everything and winning at all costs is desirable. I think that statement applies to Dawgfan and Dawg4ever. Perhaps you both love the Sabans and Petrinos of the world (”I’m not going anywhere.”).
I’ll stay with CMR for his character AND his coaching ability. But, guess what? I’ll be on the firing bandwagon too….IF we have another 6-7 season. Big if. At least I’m not pronouncing a losing season before it even starts.

Ok is Florida an above average defense? Is Auburn’s? We put 31 on both of them and that is enough points to win. If our defense is just a bit better than last season, we win lots of games this year. Bobo knows how to put points on defenses and so does Murray. Murray wasn’t out there making tackles against Florida or Auburn. Murray played well enough to win both of those games. He lit both Florida and Auburn up.

A few comments about the UGAy-UCF game for dawgtards with short memories:
1. It was obvious that neither the UGAy goons or coaches were ready for the game. It was obvious that UCF was.
2. The whole team sucked.
3. How much longer will dawg fans put up with this kind of crap with Richt as coach? More importantly, how long will McGarity put up with it?
4. Some of the UGAy players, and a lot of the fans were crying after the game ended. This was a heartwarming sight for decent, intelligent people to see.
5. When the cameras zoomed in on some of the UGAy fans, it was very clear why most states have laws against incest. It was also clear why beer companies are so profitable.
6. How much stuff has A.J. Green sold already? How much is his stuff discounted when UGAy loses and he plays like crap? And for the record, Green was in South Beach. He lied about it afterward.
7. How is Russ taking the loss? Oh, I see, he’s crapping all over everybody. Sorry about that, coach Richt. I’m sure those stains can be removed from your pants. Oh wait, didn’t the mutt croak?
8. Aaron Murray demonstrated how devastating it was to lose Zach.
9. Good news for the seniors who played their last game for UGAy – you’ll never have to spend another night in the Athens jail. The lawyers and bail bondsmen of Athens salute you.
Ya gotta love it!

As long as Bobo is the offensive coordinator we should not think about recruiting any running back under 5′11″ and 190 lbs. Any short running back will not be able to produce because everybody knows that the speed of the little running back like Thomas or the walk on will get 5 yards on 1st down and then Bobo will run the same play , not catch the other team in surprise again and lose 3 yards so the net gain is 2 yard for two plays and if the other play is an incomplete pass we have to kick on 4th down.
Bobo is so predictable that small running backs will never have consistent at Georgia.

Did we really hear that much good things last year? I remember not much more than trying to put a happy face on a freshman QB, and the quivalent of an entire team of freshman on defense, cominmg out of any reports last spring. And the ol’ “we’re gonna work hard” which I don’t believe anyone didn’t live up to.
And our line was supposed to have a lot of “exerience” FWTW.

I think Mr Richt will finally play for a national title this season but as far as winning it, that remains to be seen. Here’s my reason for saying this:
1) He had success in the pass with certain players(DJ Shockey, David Pollock and Thomas Davis). This season he has similar players(Aaron Murray, Isaiah Crowell, Jarvis Jones and Ray Drew) at more positions.
2) He changed his DC and Strength and Conditioning Coach(As a result we now have the biggest team in college football. Are they stronger than they were last season? Who Knows?
3) We got players(Ray Drew and Isaiah Crowell)who wants to win.

I suggest you change your name to DawginDenial as you deny the fact UGA has no shot of being nationally relevant this year besides being in the SEC.

how does a team with the greatest coach in then history of college football lose 3 ganes in one year?
How does that same team blow a 24 point lead to its archrival at home?
After another underachieving year in 2011, where will saban take his act to next?

I can’t wait for the Spring Game!!!
Tard, concerning your favorite team…
All the SoCal Gomas fans must know that Lanie Kiffen is only a probationary caretaker until the Prophylactics get off the NCAA shint list. When they do, Kiffen will then be unceremoniously FIRED (except his wife who will stay on as a cheerleader). All evidence of his tenure will be stricken from the USC database, as if Kiffen were never there. The dark forces at the University of Northern Mexico will then attempt to rehire Coach Carroll, who still has all the keys to the trophy cases.

Let me make sure I have this right. UGA runs a closed practice yesterday and a lot of folks commenting on here expected CMR to go into great detail about what new stuff they are trying, how the starters are panning out so far, and how far along the whole team is. He comments on a walk on running back, most likely so it would push maybe a few of the other guys to show the heart this guy does, and you folks pick that up as the DAWGS are going to start this little fellow instead of the scholarship backs and even Crowell who is coming in. That was most likely a motivational tool he was trying to use, to set an example for his team. Let’s see how they do in the annual spring game before we make a judgement based on all of our very knowledgable and professional coaching experiences to judge the DAWGS. Even after the spring game, we will not know a whole lot until the recruited class gets here in August, since we have a big plug in the middle of our defense, to name one, that will not participate in the spring practice.

680 The Fan & Georgia Bulldogs to “Hunker Down”
Apr 01, 2011 — 8:59pm
This is good. I’ve been waiting for this, during my 11-year career at 680 The Fan. Oh, yeah. Sounds good to me. And what took so long?
680 The Fan is now the “Official Sports Talk Station of the Georgia Bulldogs.” Hear it’s a 5-year partnership. And this is a good deal for both sides. The ‘Dogs get the word out in Atlanta, on a daily basis. 680 The Fan gets access. Live coverage of Richt press conferences, during the season. Weekly programming on Bulldog football. In-depth, expanded coverage. Sure hope they saved me a spot! Coach Perno’s loving this…Georgia baseball live on 680 The Fan 2, AM 1230. Won’t many of those excellent high school players here in metro Atlanta be listening? Other sports will feel the spotlight of “Atlanta’s Sports Station” too.
It’s a win-win. David Dickey and Alan Thomas have worked on this deal for years. And it’s a done deal. I love it. Georgia fans should love it too.

DawginLex;
“Saban lvs to coach the shrubs” that is too funny. (Must be your April Fools joke)
I am glad to hear CMR upbeat about the scrimmage but also a bit concerned. I have been keepin tabs on several other programs across the country too see how their coaches felt after the first scrimmage and by most accounts they all had real concerns or were flat out unhappy with the results. Now either CMR sees REAL improvement over the end of last season & how the team looked at this point last spring or as some have remarked he is/has lost grasp with reality and this doesn’t bode well for us come Sept/Oct etc… when the games are for real.
I am betting he (CMR) IS JUST TYRING to give some propts to people who otherwise might not get much mention durign the year. CMR is a fine coach & a quality man, period.

I hope everyone is not thinking we are going to be the Auburn of 2011.
Not going to happen. Georgia will be good. Very good. But they are not allowed to win National titles with Mark Richt at the helm. He lacks to many coaching and motivational skills to ever win it all.
We may go undefeated for 7 or 8 games but he will fall asleep and the dream will die.
Gary Patterson is the ticket.

JE You can live in a dream world if you wish… But the ones out here who would like to see an SEC championship every 2 or 3 years at least and the occasional national championship are the true fans… You aren’t doing UGA or the fans any favors by settling for mediocre play and worse coaching and not speaking up about it. If the fans let the powers that be at UGA know we won’t settle for it we have a better chance of getting some real coaches in there… Look at FSU they settled for Bowen for years after he had lost his way what did it get him… I think Jo Pa at Penn is a cool old dude but his day is looooonnnggg past and they just keep rolling down that road to nowhere… Ricth he’s already been given to many chances… I give him credit for getting rid of the DC last year but he should have either replaced his buddy BoBo or called the plays himself…..

7 out of last 8 seasons, Richt loses more games than the year before.
90% chance Georgia win 5 games or less this season.
This is the end of the line for Mark Richt. His last season of atrophy.
Richt will go down with Murray throwing for 3000 yards against unranked teams and going 5-7.
