680 The Fan becomes ‘official sports talk station’ of Bulldogs

ATHENS – Atlanta’s 680 The Fan signed a multi-year contract with the UGA Athletic Association’s multi-media rights holder, IMG,  to become “the official sports talk radio station” of the Bulldogs.

As part of the deal, 680 The Fan will broadcast Georgia coach Mark Richt’s weekly news conferences during the football season, UGA associate athletic director for external operations Alan Thomas said. He added that a three-times-per-week “Bulldog roundtable type show” also is being developed.

In addition, 680 The Fan’s sister station, 1230AM The Fan 2, based in Marietta, will broadcast UGA baseball games, beginning in May.

The deal does not include broadcasts of Georgia football or basketball games, Thomas said. “It gives us an additional opportunity beyond play-by-play programming,” he said.

680 The Fan president David Dickey said in a statement: “We look forward to working with UGA and IMG to bring in-depth and expanded coverage of UGA athletic programs and related content.”

Now just keep Belue out of the mix. If HWalker hadn’t been the tailback Belue would be working at McDonalds now…Talk about being in the right place at the right time..

You can’t even pick up 680 at night. And if you don’t have broadcast rights to the football games this whole thing is meaningless. The way 680 was carrying on about it, you would have thought they had just one exclusive rights to the Super Bowl.

yeah dawgs….I don’t think it was Walker to Scott against the 1980 Gators….Belue has more insight into the UGA program probably than any other alumni on the air…..Plus he keeps Kincade in his place…..

I thoroughly enjoy 680 The Fan and Buck Belue.

I think this is great news.

I wonder if Chuck Oliver and Chadd Scott will be asked to stop trying to make the Chuck & Chernoff show into “Auburn Radio”, however.

Look forward to hearing that new stuff.

DAWG 7:49PM, you must be a new UGA fan or a part- time half- ace fan if you think Buck Belue didn’t carry his weight as a Georgia football player or Georgia baseball player. Your cheap shot at Belue really shows how little you know about UGA sports. He will still be you in any game you want to play. Are you St. Simons?

Couple of corrections to make: 1) Chadd Scott no longer works at the station and hasn’t for a couple of weeks. He was fired over some negative tweets he made about Delta. 2) Buck Belue is not an alumnus of UGA. He left UGA to finish his degree at VSU, therefore he is an Alumnus of VSU.

Gator On The Loose: This deal doesn’t change WSB Radio’s relationship with UGA. The football and basketball games and coaches’ call-in shows will still air on WSB and the rest of the UGA radio network.

I agree that the reception for 680 is terrible. If it weren’t for internet broadcast, no one outside of the perimeter would ever hear it. As for Buck Belue, he does a good job on the air and isn’t afraid to be critical of UGA or any other team. He was a decent quarterback in college, but that was more because of the system UGA ran than his lack of talent. The final drive he led his senior year against Florida was pure brilliance. And his moving around in the pocket to find Lindsay Scott the year before wasn’t too bad, either.

This is news to me about Chadd Scott.

I always thought he had a good voice for radio, but he was a total d-bag. I used to follow him on twitter, but the self-proclaimed bird watcher just kept making too many cheap shot stabs at Mark Richt and UGA fans.

Everybody is entitled to opinions, and it’s more prevalent than anywhere in Sports Talk radio. However, personalities like Chadd Scott and John Kincade who constantly spew their love of rival teams outside of their broadcast area just to get a rise out of the listeners gets a little old. I like Kincade most of the time, but once he starts talking about his Phillies or Temple University and how much better they are than our local teams, i feel he is just being a lazy antagonist.

Anyway, good riddance Chadd Scott. Good luck trying to explain this bonehead move to your potential future employers.

680 AM loses its reach at night, when the 93.7 FM signal comes in clear. I listen to them in Forsyth County without any problem.

The more UGA and college content in general that we can get, the better. I don’t give a flip about the Thrashers or the Hawks.

Why is there no news on the recent HBO broadcast on former AU players claiming they were paid for pay? If this were UGA, it would be all over the world by now, sort of like with POTUS Barry O ……….he stumbles clumsily into it daily and no news whatsoever.

Because those coaches are long gone from Auburn. It’s yesterday’s news.

How about the NFL scouts getting so disgusted at UGA’s cheating and bringing in ringers at the NFL pro day that they walked off the field THIS YEAR?

How about the UGA nightmare team’s six NCAA violations so far, THIS YEAR?

Good. I guess.

When did people start selling rights just to cover the team?? 680 already has Buck who has all of those extra juicy “nuggets” coming from the UGA program. I always thought it was funny that they have a special segment to let everyone know Buck might actually do something productive. If it isn’t the Braves or UGA football he is worthless. Oh, unless him and Kincade start getting riled up about golf. Golf is painful to watch, much less listen to these two jabber back and forth about. Kincade at least knows every sport. The villan role gets a little old. If it is more UGA football I will take it. What is the other alternative. Listen to the “Stews”? I like how Doug Stewart’s favorite teams are solely based on what clothes rappers were wearing in the late 80’s early 90’s. White Sox, Lakers, Miami Huricanes, Raiders. What a joke. If they didn’t prep for the show for a couple hours the show would be 10 times worse than it already is. They can not talk on the fly at all. CHUCK AND CHERNOFF RULE!! Pollack and Bell aren’t bad either.

Good. I guess. (Bodda)

UGA turned themselves in for minor infractions that should be taken out of the NCAA rule book. (Texting, Alumni attending an recruits signing, lining up in formation for a recruit) Who cares? Multiple Auburn players recieved cash payments on a regular basis. Talk to SMU how that plan worked for them.

As a UGA grad, i am very very glad to hear that Buck is not a fellow alum. He is terrible. He probably thinks Willie Martinez is a good DC. Total a** kisser. Kinkade is worse. Pollack is kinda embarrassing as well. He’s just not very informed. But at least he has opinions. Just b/c you can play the game doesn’t mean you should be paid to talk about it.
