ATHENS — After being dominated by the defense in Tuesday’s practice, Georgia’s offense bounced back on Thursday.
“We looked a whole lot better than we did the other day,” quarterback Aaron Murray said. “I feel like guys were a lot more energized.”
He attributed the difference to Georgia’s starting center.
“Ben Jones got on us a little bit the other day after practice, really got us pumped up,” Murray said.
How did Jones do that?
“Just screaming, yelling, pushing, going crazy, being Ben Jones,” Murray said. “Which is a great thing because he’s not only one of the leaders of the offense but of the team. . . . You don’t want to mess up if Ben Jones is watching you.”
———-
Tailback Washaun Ealey missed his second consecutive practice Thursday because of a strained left hamstring. He was lifting weights on the side as the practice began.
Georgia lists Ealey’s status as day-to-day. The Bulldogs practice again Friday and scrimmage Saturday.
Also sidelined Thursday: offensive lineman Austin Long (shoulder) and receiver Chris Conley (undisclosed injury). Neither player’s injury is thought to be serious.

I’ve said this a million times and I will continue to say it until I see improvement ON THE FIELD. I am sick and effing tired of all the talking and jaw flapping coming out of this program. I could give a flying flip about Ben Jones yelling and screaming at practice. Its just more empty talk and chest pounding. Richt needs to restrict media access until this team proves that it can handle it, which it has not done. No amount of screaming and yelling is going to help us beat Florida or anyone else for that matter. Work on the blocking and tackling and SHUT THE HELL UP.
Thanks.

WDE…the only loser on here is you and the rest of the Auburn players who lack integrity!! Apparently ingorance can be used at AU. how can you have respect for a team or players if they cant admit the truth….THEY WERE PAID…and Newt knew what was happening the whole time. NO MORE INTEGRITY LEFT IN FOOTBALL….especially at auburn.

Somebody’s got to step up and be a leader and you would prefer it to be a senior with some cachet, like Jones, who has started since a freshman. I’d like to see Murray, Sturdivant, Charles and T. King step up also on the offensive side.

I am in agreement with dawgfan. Until the ‘Dog nation sees actual results on the field, then all of the TALKING and WRITING will mean absolutely nothing. You know the expression: “It’s time to put up or shut up.” Let’s tweak that somewhat…these players should SHUT UP first so they can then PUT UP.

“Only thing I wish Ben would work on is his aim so he wouldn’t have missed Fairley’s knee.”
Kind of lose the “moral high-ground” with that one, huh?
You won’t hear me say the helmet to the back wasn’t a dirty hit. But UGA showed their lack of focus by taking their shots when the game was decided, and even moreso by actually leaving the sideline and taking to the field.
Any explanation why your players felt the need to rush the field in preparation for a brawl but Auburns’ didn’t?

Every now and then you just need to have a good ol’ fashioned redneck take charge. Football is still able blocking and tackling and somebody whippin’ a$$. Sounds like Mr. Jones is the man to make it happen.

There is no moral high ground. Fairley put cheap shots on the QB for UGA. Retaliation is expected. The Dawgs weren’t trained well enough. Needed Erk around to guide them.
Fairley would still be walking with a limp if Erk had been around.

Your name says it all. You are sitting just like I am and therefore you don’t have enough knowledge at this point and time to spew your stupid, as usual, negative comments. One would think that you are awfully worried about UGA, because I see you spewing on here more than a lot of UGA fans, which means they must have a job and you don’t. I am retired having worked my entire life and enjoy reading well thought out, helpful comments and less gators all together. WDE,
They left the sidelines during the game to get some of the money the trooper was handing out on the sidelines. They have heard so many times that it is an accepted practice at Auburn, so they thought they could get some also. And don’t come up with, “wheres the proof”? The NCAA will actually show you that soon enough, even if Auburn has probably tried to pay them off also.
Waiting for your usual exciting comments, LOL.

Such a great way of deflecting the question.
Don’t worry, I understand- with all these rumor’s going on, Auburn’s the only group that has to answer for anything ever.
I’m sure with as rabid and die-hard as the UGA fans here are, there’s not a single one with money that’s willing to slip a couple hundreds to a UGA player.

I still don’t like Ben Jones. I don’t care what he does until he shows some class on the field in a game. I am sorry Dawg fans Ben just seems like a (here is the word of the times) Thug. I want him to play hard and aggressive just not DIRTY and attempt to HURT other players on purpose. If he hits a guy and the guy gets hurt that is part of the game, but to do something illegal and hurt a guy is just Classless.

How much were UGA players paid to play? Boy you guys didn’t get your money’s worth last year for sure. Maybe you need the Hershel Walker plan. Give scholarships to the players sisters or brothers and a new Trans AM for the player. It worked great from 1979-1983.

What’s with Ealey missing practices while Malone is playing through his injuries?
Does this portend Ealey’s departure from the Classic City?
Does a stained hamstring put a determined player on the sidelines in the midst of the most intense competition for the starting job in years?
I don’t know; I’m just asking. I hope not!

Schmeckdawg,
Part of the reason could be they may be going a little harder physically than last year. People seem to forget that the players have pride as well, and if you think fans are disapointed in bad performances, imagine these guys who played the game. I am sure that the increased emphasis on S and C might be causing a few strains, but I really think, they are just working harder right now.

Has the whole of the college football world suddenly turned against Auburn because you won a championship last year. Man, some folks can’t smell the smoke but I bet they know it when their darn feet are getting burnt form the smokes source. I think it is interesting what certain guys respond to. Some are fiery like a Tim Tebow and some are more cerebral like a Peyton Manning. Which approach is better? The one that delivers the results! When the fiery approach works, people will call you ” passionate, a leader” and when it doesn’t they’ll say “you’re full of hot air, a buffoon”. When the cerebral approach works, people will call you ” cool, calm, and collected”, and when it doesn’t they’ll say ” you lack passion, or are soft, or not a leader”.
As a player, I was never one to get into all the pre-game headbutting and theatrics. It wasn’t something that made me play better or harder. It was more important for me to know my assignments, and pay attention to what was going on. But I’m a thinker not a feeler. Tell me what I need to do, and let me do it. Some folks however ARE feelers. Getting pumped up DOES make them play better. So which approach is better? Again, its the one that delivers results! Results are what matters, not the bells and whistles! Enthusiasm and attitude are helpful, but nothing replaces preparation, fundamentals, and work ethic. Nothing! Those are the foundations for success, everything is just the whip cream on top.

The Original WDE the UGA players rushed the field to address the issue of their QB getting late hit, pile driven, chin bloodied after plays by a brute who should have been kicked out of the game in the 2 nd quarter..the Auburn players stayed on the sidelines because they had the good sense to not take that brutes butt kicking…most of the Auburn players do have class and a good deal of common sense.

An offensive lineman has to pump this offense up? Are you serious? Ben Jones is a leader on offense, not Murray? What is so difficult about this “valuted” offense Georgia runs? How did Cam play one season and win a BCSC, but this makes Murray’s 3rd spring game (he was a REDSHIRT freshman that reported early to UGA), but Murray has yet to figure out a offense I can sit on my couch and guess what plays they will run? UGA was 11th in scoring, and most of the scoring was against prevent defenses when winning teams had the lead. Murray put up respectable numbers against losing teams, and winning teams with prevent defenses. Some of you fans need to wake up, he’s tapped out his potential, QB’s hardly ever duplicate their first year because now opposing teams have film on him.

Obvious Question
Ealey is a very talented player. He has gained over 1500 yards in about a season and a half. (He didn’t play the first half of his freshman sseason because of possible redshirting.)He is averaging 5.5 yards per carry. If he improves ball security and his blocking, he could be a very good Georgia RB.
