Hamstring injury sidelines UGA’s Ealey from practice

ATHENS – Georgia resumed spring football practice Tuesday with tailback Washaun Ealey on the sideline because of a strained left hamstring.

Georgia officially listed Ealey’s status as “day to day”; the Bulldogs’ next practice is Thursday.

“It’s nothing serious,” running backs coach Bryan McClendon said of the injury.

McClendon said Ealey and fellow tailback Caleb King, both of whom have been suspended twice since the start of last season for off-field issues, are having positive and productive springs.

“I do think generally they’re doing well,” McClendon said. “They’re coming out there and busting their tail, working as hard as anybody. They’re really being good teammates to everybody.”

Ealey, King, Carlton Thomas and Ken Malcome are sharing the tailback snaps evenly with the first- and second-string offensive units this spring, McClendon said. Prized prospect Isaiah Crowell will join the competition when he arrives this summer.

Asked how the returning tailbacks have handled all the public attention that has been focused on Crowell, McClendon said: “I think they’ve handled it as well as they could. I think the biggest person who needs to worry about all the attention Isaiah is getting is Isaiah. Isaiah needs to make sure by the time he comes up here he [is] ready to roll. We have talked about that a few times.”

The other tailbacks “need to worry about things they can control,” McClendon said. “They can’t control who’s coming in. . . . The only thing they need to control is the reps they get out there and making them count.”

– Tim Tucker, AJC

Everything will be all well and good if 2 things happen:

1. Our offensive line moves the line of scrimmage.
2. Bobo does not settle for the deep ball.

Will I agree with the off field issues, but fumbling is not a fair concern to place on him. He coughed up the ball a few times last year, but he was flat out struck on the two you probably remember. His biggest on field issue has been learning to pass block. He is obviously no Rhodes Scholar. Hopefully we will see a marked improvement in off-field issues this year. At least when our guys get in trouble, our beloved APD, and AJC can’t wait to let the world know. Compare this to Columbia, Knoxville, Tuscaloosa, and just about any other college town with a major football team. Any fan of any team is lying to themselves if they think they are fielding teams of student atheletes. We are getting exactly what we demand and pay for.

Uga’s problem is the margin between talent lost and talent gained. You are losing extremely athletic in-state offensive lineman to your competition each year, and compounding the problem by signing and bringing in offensive line talent that could be argued is not SEC calibre. So you fail to offset the talent you’re losing with the talent you’re bringing in. You can’t continue to give the Alabamas, Tennessees, South Carolinas and Auburns of the world Georgia products such as James Carpenter, Chance Warmack, Roke Watkins, Jujuan James and Ed Christian and counter these blunders with the 9th rated offensive line class in the SEC (per Rivals). Now it seems you’re at it again as you’ve let another major in state talent ,Cedar Grove’s Brandon Greene, commit to the Tide. It’s talent lost vs. talent gained and the negative margin continues to increase. This is why you’re no longer competitive with the higher echelon teams in the SEC,.and why it will probably spell the end to the Richt era in Athens, as it should. Roll Tide.

Alabama’s recent problem is obviously coaching.

How on EARTH do you have all the talent Bama did last year, and go 10-3????

Now you are losing your All-American QB, Heisman RB, and 2nd best WR in the SEC (behind only AJ Green, obviously), and you expect to be right in the mix!?!?!?!?

Because of a couple incoming freshman offensive lineman from the state of Georgia??

Crowell’s coming, like a train.

ESPN’s Feldman listed Crowell as a Heisman cadidate, as a FRESHMAN!

Crowell can FLY, and his speed ends in a ton of lengthy scores.

Can you imagine if Crowell lights up Boise for 150, and throws 200 on South Carolina? Every sports reporter in the country will be talking about Crowell then.

But first things first.

please learn to read. Damn I guess you are one of those new UGA Engineers in waiting.
Feldman said the Florida QB will win the HEISMAN in 2014 and Crowell will be the runner-up. That is 4 count them 4 YEARS away. If Crowell is good he will not be at UGA in 4 years. UGA has no good running backs now. So, Crowell will burn his redshirt year and he better make it count.

Tide Troll, wanna tell me how competitive Richt is with Bama? I’ll tell You he has lost to them once. That only happened because he fielded a MASH unit. His left tackle at the time was a D-end because his first three options at tackle were out with season ending injuries. We were also out 20+ players for that game mostly along the line of scrimmage on both sides. Even with that one loss Richt has owned Bama! So stick it!

Tide Roll,
It’s inevitable that when you have such a wealth of high school football talent (as Georgia does) and such a lack of talent as the states of Alabama and Tennessee do, these schools will pull players from your state. Unfortunately we cannot keep every player in state as the bear used to do by sitting 4 star players just so they wouldn’t play for the opposition (classless), or offer scholarships to every player in the southeast (even though you will probably cut them because you find a better player in next year’s recruiting class) ala coach Saban. So don’t come on here preaching about the inequities of our coach when your two greatest coaches of all time are a couple of cheaters and men of low moral standard.

Stll at the bar, you said a mouthful with those 3 letters MNC! It is a myth because the voters have so much to do with it. Like putting LSU in the game ahead of UGA right after they had lost to Arkansas when UGA was on a roll and obviously playing the best football in the nation at the time. In the old days a team that had won 8 in a row by 14+ point average and was ranked ahead of the other team who had just lost 2 weeks prior would have never been jumped in the polls. It is the beauty pageant that kept them out of that one. Don’t try to tell me it was because they wion the SEC when they had the same # of losses in the SEC as UGA. That was just the luck of which division they played in and tie breakers. If that was their excuse they should have left Oklahoma out when not only did they not win their conference they got blown out in the conference championship.

The truth is UGA has had NC caliber teams under Richt but was not lucky enough to have been voted into the game.
BTW, which team do You support? would it happen to be the team that the Dawgs own from the same city as this paper? Richt has a better record against them than Bama. Either way You 2 clowns should go play in traffic. Your opinion will be better valued there!

LSU will own the West. Florida and SC and UGA will fight it out to be the East Champ.

Bama will play NC in the Chic Fil A Bowl. Sabin will leave for parts unknown after that game and for Bama …………………. another 20-25 years will go by until they see another SEC title. It is the way that it is now, in the SEC.

Not everybody in that redneck state can go to college and there is nothing else to cheer for. See when a stupid redneck in Georgia CHOOSES to be a dawg fan JUST CAUSE. They look dumb. They didn’t go to UGA. Their mommy or daddy didn’t go to UGA and they don’t go to the games, but they say they are DAWGS. HAHAHA. Be a Braves Fan or a team you can actually get tickets to. We are seen as a historically good program (ranked by most in the top 15) and always a threat. But, clearly we are not in the elite 8 (USC, TX, OU, OhSt, Penn St, Bama, Mich, and ND). Some of those are down (Mich and ND) but there is no doubt they will be back. UGA is in the next tier with FSU, LSU, Neb, etc. While we are not at our normal level of power, we’ll be back. Bodder Fashion College on the other hand, will continue to crank out mid-town wine-cooler drinkers like you who hate UGA because you couldn’t qualify to get in.

Tide Roll, as much as some people (mostly ignorant I might add) can’t stand it, you’re absolutely right. Richt focuses mostly on bringing high profile “position players” in. According to Richt we have 13 Offensive Linemen on scholorship, we should have at least 18. That leads to a lack of competition, as well as a depth issue.

I don’t care who we have for a running back, without an Oline they are mediocre looking at best. We sign the number one rated running back; how many number one rated Olinemen did we sign?

Shawn, I had to giggle at your post just a little. There is a bottom line that you failed to mention. That is that IF the pups could have beaten a mediocre S. Carolina team or beaten the East champ Tennessee, they might have gotten their chance, but they could not take care of business, which is a trait of a MR team. LSU was considerewd the better team, because they took care of business when they had to (SEC championship game). One more win, and Uga would have had their chance to prove they were worthy of playing for the NC. LSU took care of business, the poor pups did not, and that my friend is the bottom line.

Ealy is done. This is the first step in setting up his “losers limp”. When fall practice starts, he will not be ready, he will be overweight and there will be a decision to have surgery to repair the hamstring. King will have every opportunity to win the job, but he runs like a guy looking for a soft place to fall down. Bobo never had a clue of how to use Knowshon, I don’t think he will figure out how to use Crowell. But we can always throw a 50 yard fly pattern on first down.

I just wonder how, why, CMR could have been that detached, that’s where my frustration, dissatisfaction lie. We didn’t get in the position we’re in overnight, this has been progressive. If I see positive “results” from the “change” we’ve seen I will definitely acknowledge it. I’m not one to give support unilaterally when it’s been demonstrated first hand that it’s not warranted.

I have been as critical of our O-line and specifically Coach Searles as anyone. Back when I was in the minority of folks concerned about it. But he certainly seemed like a great hire at the time. Nobody didn’t think he wasn’t going to be able to field a capable O-line.

But I do think we have recruited well at that position in the past few years, and I have a feeling that (even with Searles) we were going to see some of that starting to show up this year. As I said before, there is not a position coach in the league that has the opportunity to be a superhero as Will Friend right now. I think he fell into a very good situation.

If this is so lousy …………….. why is UGA a close 4th in BOWL WINS behind PN State and the Real USC and Alabama in ALL TIME BOWL WINS ??? This stat says it all.

This perspecrtive is 100% accurate. NCs? Some schools like GT have not been to a Sugar Bowl in 55-58 years. Some schools like GT have not been to a Cotton Bowl in 55-65 years or Cap One Bowl ever. The same is true with about 94% of all big boy football schools. Some schools like GT have not won a bowl in a long time.

Read and weep.

Goooooooooooooooooo Dogs.

PS Auburn is in deep deep trouble …………….watch HBO tonight when tons of AU football players admit taking BRIBES to play at AU. Disgusting.

@Roll Tide – I seem to remember the Tide stinkin’ it up for several years. In 2000 3-8, 2003 4-9, 2004 6-6 & 2006 6-7.

Boy the delusion for UGA fans is starting early this year, so by June this year the puppies will be winning the Super Bowl by default because the Steelers and Pats were too scared to play the mighty 6-7 juggernaut.

Last we saw this debacle, they were getting pushed around and unable to score against a Conference USA Central Florida but losing their only SEC caliber weapon in AJ Green is going to open up their awesomeness? Good luck with that.

Lets inject a little reality…UGAs offense is going to struggle more this year than last with no receivers and below average RBs. And a little told story to the Crowell fiasco is the complete lack of coverage that the kid is injury prone, he lost parts of or the entirety off several games this season due to injury. And that was against mid-level high school defenses, not a good boding for playing against SEC defenses.

6-7 is going to look like a “dream” season after 2011.

Trolling….I am just trying to head off the UGA fans swearing at their players and coaches in Sanford after the 3 game because their inflated expectations are not being met.

But you keep believing in fairy tales.

Buckeye

Ohio State has had a very rough week. Upset in the tournament by THE SEC. Now, the Buckeye hookers are getting headlines. What’s next?
