Redskins assistant headed to UGA, with strong endorsement from an ex-Dog

ATHENS — Georgia is expected to name Washington Redskins assistant coach Kirk Olivadotti to its defensive coaching staff by the end of the week.

And at least one former Bulldog says that is very good news.

“UGA you just got one hell of a coach in Kirk Olivadotti,” former Georgia and current Redskins defensive end Phillip Daniels posted on Twitter.  “The defense just got a whole lot better. One of the smartest coaches I have ever known. Enjoy success with him on board. Congrats K.O.”

Georgia hasn’t announced the hire, but the Washington Post reported that Olivadotti is leaving the Redskins to accept the position. Assistant-coaching hires at Georgia often are delayed for a day or longer while pre-employment background checks are completed.

Olivadotti, 37, would fill the position vacated two weeks ago when inside linebackers coach Warren Belin resigned after one year at UGA to accept a job as linebackers coach with the Carolina Panthers.

Olivadotti has been on the Redskins’ staff for the past 11 years in a series of defensive coaching positions. He was linebackers coach from 2007 through 2009 and held the title of “defensive assistant” in 2010. (Daniels, a 15-year NFL veteran, has been with the Redskins for the past seven seasons.)

Olivadotti’s father, Tom, was a long-time NFL defensive coach with the Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings,  New York Giants and Houston Texans.  Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, who has led the search for Belin’s replacement, coached with Tom Olivadotti on the Texans’ staff in 2004.

As an avid Dawg fan, season ticket holder, and a fan who loves to dislike Auburn. I can’t believe some fool would poison their oak tree. Good luck to Auburn with the tree and I hope whoever is responsible gets caught and is punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Football is football but killing a 130 year old tree over a game, by a psychotic moron is unforgivable.

Enough about the “Dream Team”. Rivals ranked your OL recruits 9th in the conference just ahead of Vandy. It would have been worse but for Xzavier Ward. Look at Bama’s class OVERALL. That’s a “DREAM TEAM”,

Uga’s program is a joke. They’re soo cheap. Pay the equivalent of a grad assistant’s salary for the equivalent of a grad assistant for an OL coach so they can “afford” to bring in the new linebacker coach. It’s embarassing.

Why is it when we get a bit of good news Bama fans come in and just have to say some stuff that is really out of the way? Tide Roll “nough about the “Dream Team”. Rivals ranked your OL recruits 9th in the conference just ahead of Vandy. It would have been worse but for Xzavier Ward. Look at Bama’s class OVERALL. Hey Tide Roll, it’s a well known fact that HS football in GA is WAY better than it is in Alabama. That’s why your boy Saban and his puppet Smart keep coming over to GA to steal our guys away. It’s called the Dream Team because we kept MOST of the top guys in state and they’re headed to UGA. Guys like Malcom Mitchell, Ray Drew, Jay Rome and Crowell. Bama was drooling over all four of those cats. I’d put a top 5 GA class (loaded with GA boys) vs. a #1 Bama class (players from all over) any day of the week. Rivals and Scout don’t take the fact that HS football is better in GA than Bama into consideration when they rank these kids.

It seems as though the defensive staff keeps getting better while the offensive staff continues to be a training ground for young coaches. Wonder why that is? We go to the NFL for a linebackers coach but look to UAB for an OL coach?

How many times are you going to post that remark about UGA’s O line? This has to be the 5th time at least I have seen it and I only read AJC blogs a few times a week.

It’s obvious you are more than a bit slow, well let’s be honest you are dirt stupid. Even with your stupidity being so overwhelming it would seem like you could come up with something new.

SEC champs shouldn’t be Richt’s or UGA’s goal…that’s the first step in the prized goal of winning another national championship for the Dawg faithful…Georgia gets good recruiting classes year after year but you’ve got to take it to the next level or else you end up mediocre…time will tell what happens but even though I’m a Bama fan I agree with BigDawg, Athens has a great campus…

Richt is totally out of touch. First he lets BOOBOO hire his buddy to coach the O.L., and now he let’s his new D.C. hire his buddy from the NFL. This UGA fans is why the dawgs will never get back to the SECC game as long as Richt is the head coach. Any other head coach would have done alot of research and found 2 coaches with backgrounds of coaching and recruiting against SEC opponents. Wonder how many spread offenses this new hire has coached against, and when was the last time he had to recruit 18 yr old kids. The answer is never. UGA needs young coaches that are energetic and have recruited and coached in the SEC. Thank God we only have to put up with Richt and his buddy system for one more year.

@1953 dawg

Why hide behing a name that we all know you don’t deserve. You are not a fan of the Bulldogs and there is no way you are a UGA grad. You probably did graduate high school in 1953 though because you are obviously senile.

You first complain about hiring a young coach and then a few lines later complain that UGA needs to hire more young coaches. In all honesty you are probably not senile, just really really stupid. I’m guessing that makes you a Bama grad.
