ATHENS — Georgia is expected to name Washington Redskins assistant coach Kirk Olivadotti to its defensive coaching staff by the end of the week.
And at least one former Bulldog says that is very good news.
“UGA you just got one hell of a coach in Kirk Olivadotti,” former Georgia and current Redskins defensive end Phillip Daniels posted on Twitter. “The defense just got a whole lot better. One of the smartest coaches I have ever known. Enjoy success with him on board. Congrats K.O.”
Georgia hasn’t announced the hire, but the Washington Post reported that Olivadotti is leaving the Redskins to accept the position. Assistant-coaching hires at Georgia often are delayed for a day or longer while pre-employment background checks are completed.
Olivadotti, 37, would fill the position vacated two weeks ago when inside linebackers coach Warren Belin resigned after one year at UGA to accept a job as linebackers coach with the Carolina Panthers.
Olivadotti has been on the Redskins’ staff for the past 11 years in a series of defensive coaching positions. He was linebackers coach from 2007 through 2009 and held the title of “defensive assistant” in 2010. (Daniels, a 15-year NFL veteran, has been with the Redskins for the past seven seasons.)
Olivadotti’s father, Tom, was a long-time NFL defensive coach with the Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants and Houston Texans. Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, who has led the search for Belin’s replacement, coached with Tom Olivadotti on the Texans’ staff in 2004.

As an avid Dawg fan, season ticket holder, and a fan who loves to dislike Auburn. I can’t believe some fool would poison their oak tree. Good luck to Auburn with the tree and I hope whoever is responsible gets caught and is punished to the fullest extent of the law.
Football is football but killing a 130 year old tree over a game, by a psychotic moron is unforgivable.

Hey Tide Roll, it’s a well known fact that HS football in GA is WAY better than it is in Alabama. That’s why your boy Saban and his puppet Smart keep coming over to GA to steal our guys away. It’s called the Dream Team because we kept MOST of the top guys in state and they’re headed to UGA. Guys like Malcom Mitchell, Ray Drew, Jay Rome and Crowell. Bama was drooling over all four of those cats. I’d put a top 5 GA class (loaded with GA boys) vs. a #1 Bama class (players from all over) any day of the week. Rivals and Scout don’t take the fact that HS football is better in GA than Bama into consideration when they rank these kids.

Richt is totally out of touch. First he lets BOOBOO hire his buddy to coach the O.L., and now he let’s his new D.C. hire his buddy from the NFL. This UGA fans is why the dawgs will never get back to the SECC game as long as Richt is the head coach. Any other head coach would have done alot of research and found 2 coaches with backgrounds of coaching and recruiting against SEC opponents. Wonder how many spread offenses this new hire has coached against, and when was the last time he had to recruit 18 yr old kids. The answer is never. UGA needs young coaches that are energetic and have recruited and coached in the SEC. Thank God we only have to put up with Richt and his buddy system for one more year.

1953, my question when Friend was hired was how did it take place. Tim Tucker reported he was Bobo’s hire, now we hear Grantham is hiring “his” choice for linebackers coach. That is obviously the mark of a Coach who delegates total authority. It doesn’t however relieve Richt of the responsibility. If the hires don’t work out through results Richt will be gone.

Good hire. Let’s see this defense turned into a well oiled machine. Our linebackers should be the best group in the SEC. No ifs, ands, or buts. There’s no reason our defense can’t be the top of the SEC and one of the best in the country if our S&C program is as good as it’s hyped up to be. We need to finish games and we’ll be fine. Too many times last season we failed to finish games, and we were close enough to win it but mental mistakes lost the game for us. I don’t expect that to happen this season.

We have great high school players in this state and want uga to continue to keep most of them coming to uga as they did this year. I think this hire and the ol coach hire will be fine from the coaching stand point but the question is did we upgrade as a staff when it comes to recruiting? I sure hope we did, real dawg fans will trust that richt knows what he is doing. Maybe CKO can turn ray drew into brian orakpo.

The cool thing about our O-line recruits is potential! I have rad a little about Debell and it seems this kid is not rated as high as some others because he needed to put on a little weight. I also understand he is the prototypical LT as far as length and agility with one heck of a mean streak. I think we have missed out on the mean streak lately, I used to love Jean-Gilles for that reason. I also understand Ward has only played tackle for one season and is super agile. I like the nasty streak You hear about from Dantzler too. The potential is there for a great O-line with a good red shirt for a couple of these guys. BTW, We Dawgs don’t call it the “Dream Team” for how our recruits were ranked. We call it that because We went after the top in state talent and won the majority of these kids over. Those rankings are nice but when you get all the guys you evaluate to fill certain needs, the class becomes complete. GATA!

You better believe Tennessee is happy with their Freshman All-American OT, Jujuan James from N. Gwinnett. And Hepzibah’s James Carpenter led us to a national title at left tackle. To all the Tide fans: Alabama has only won been in 2 SEC Championship games in the last 10 years so shutup! Same as UGA…..AND the only reason they have done ANYTHING was they had to spend the most money in the USA to BUY Saban. It took MONEY to buy the best college coach by paying him the MOST EVER to be their coach which has gotten good recruits from out of state. Alabama could not stand all of the losing that had taken place for quite awhile and went and bought wins because no other decisions they made in Tuscaloosa worked. Saban will be gone soon so how much are you going to pay for Miles or Stoops, because Richt will still be the coach at one school the longest in the SEC. Alabama, just like AU, bought their wins more than any schools in the nation EVER have. What does that say about the joke of a state ALABAMA? Both schools cant win without paying either the most ever for a coach or to get their players? Without the money Alabama would have NOTHING because football is all they have. UAB is the BEST school in the state and I hope they overtake both AU and UA in the future without having to go to EXTREME MEASURES. Pathetic if you ask most people….

Once again, TampaGator shows that he has absolutely no life. The guy is not even a Georgia fan, yet he INSISTS on degrading the university and its football team on EVERY UGA blog. It’s absurd and almost comical.
Hey TampaGator, we will tell you again — get the h*ll off a UGA blog if you’re such a hater. Go find a Florida blog on some paper south of the border and comment to your heart’s desire about how GREAT the Gators will be this year.
It’s really pathetic when fans of ANOTHER university come onto a UGA blog to run down the school, its coaches, its recruits, etc. It shows complete insecurity and a complete lack of balance in your life. You’re going to use a blog to spar with fans of another school? really? that doesn’t strike you as odd? I mean, I could give two sh*ts about any other SEC school… I don’t much care for Florida or Auburn or Tennessee or anybody else. But do you think I have EVER wasted a NANOSECOND of my life by going to their state newspapers and commenting on THEIR football section? I mean, it never crossed my mind… why the h*ll do I care what the Vols or Tigers or Gators do? I am worried about MY team and MY school…. ONLY.
So TampaGator, tide roll, Tech fans, etc…. take a look in the mirror and ask yourself “Don’t I have better things to do than get on a Georgia blog and run down their program?” You’re not much of a man if you do this stuff, if you ask me. Let Georgia fans talk about Georgia issues on a Georgia blog… you go find gators-are-great.com or whatever you read and talk about YOUR team.

Guy was demoted to a non-position, nameless title of assistant. He got where he is because of his daddy, and now he is the savior of the UGA defense?
Laughable when SEC opponents are loading up with name NFL defensive coaching studs, e.g. Gators hire Bryant Quinn, an all-pro, all-time 49r defenseive stud to coach DL. Nobody outside N. Georgia thinks this hiring a Daddy’s boy as defensive coach is a solid hire.

Speaking of coaches I am glad to see FL got a coach with some character now. Urban has the nerve now to say that he has sent things to the NCAA abiout shady coaches and letting players play who shouldn’t. He is the King of kicking players off when not needed then bringing them back. That Moss player a couple of years ago he said was brought back because the plyers decided he then tipped the field goal agains SC and sent the gators to the Championship. Was busted again later for pot and has been in trouble in the NFL. Then there is Rainey kicks him off but brings him back for GA and tries to imply when he is kicked off that he won’t be back when everyone knows he will. Urban is definitely the “Pot calling the kettle black”

Games are won with offensive line talent such as this. Losing in-state players like these guys is the reason Florida has defeated you an incredible 19 out of 21 years. Richt can hire and fire as many coaches as he wants, but until he stops letting “Country Bobo” control his decisions (like hiring Friend!!), ya’ll will continue to lose to the Gators. Man, I can’t believe the amount of useless, stupid comments made by fans from other schools about anything to do with UGA coaches and the football team. UGA had a variety of problems that led to a poor season last year, but never the less, you morons come on here and try and start your garbage by thinking you know what went on.
During the next couple of years, when UGA sets the ship right, you will have to come up with a whole bunch of new garbage to spew.
The proof will come on the football field, where the game is won, and the future looks a lot better for UGA, than last years record shows for UGA.
I do not think that UGA will win the SEC next year, but I do believe that we will be much improved. I would dare say, most of you that write these stupid comments haven’t even lived long enough, to know how cylical teams success’s are over a long period of time. I do not care whether it is professional, college or high school.
I expect to see a bunch of negative comments after this post, but I chose to take the high road as far as insulting other people’s schools. As long as they are from the SEC, I am glad when they have success. I do not care for some of the shady practices some schools are alledged to have used lately, but I am not the judge or jury, so I leave that up to the professionals hired to investigate those things.

Only a hater could view this as a bad hire. Chemistry on a staff is really important and I am thankful that CMR let Bobo and Grantham have alot of say in who was selected to coach the Oline and the LB’s. Good chemistry on the coaching staff was severly lacking last year with a lot of backstabbing going on. This was as much the reason for a 6-7 season as anything else.

schmeckdawg – Your ignorance shines ! Im not an Auburn fan. Just stating facts. You on the other hand hate teams that beat your team on a regular basis and make jokes of those who obtain what your team cannot. Those people are called Ga Fans !

Clinch ole boy, You might like to check your spelling a little bit before you call somebody else ignorant. That’s ok though, just go on with your moronic insults, because they further prove you are simply a child, trying to compete in an adult world.

90% of these folks night after night are tech people posting like they are bama-fla etc-they are tragic people who are utterly pathetic. How would you feel if you brought in a recruiting class like they did this year? They have had an inferiority complex for 40 years because UGA has dominated them like no other in state game.Richt-9 manboobs-1

Its a fact that its alot harder to get into Georgia than most schools out there. Ever since the Jane Kemp saga its been tough. Auburn and Alabama’s level of acceptance is way lower than Georgia’s. That is a simple fact. We have to pass up on alot of Blue Chippers every year that in turn go to Alabama and Auburn because they have lower standards. Has nothing to do with winning because alot of them always wanted to go to Georgia but had to settle.
This in no way demeans Auburn, Alabama, LSU and Florida its just a fact.
All those schools have great programs and education.
To sit there and brag about something thats not entirely true is just a waste of time. Alot of players go to a junior college to get their grades up so they can enroll at Georgia later. Even if they get offers from Alabama and Auburn they dont wanna go there cause they only want to go to Georgia.
I guarantee you that if another college offered Saban 7 million a year he’d go! His track record proves that so i’d be careful boasting cause next year he could be gone. Remember your lean years when you could get no one to coach at Alabama? Auburn even as great as they were this past year doesnt know where they’ll be this upcoming year. Lets face it….take Cam out of the picture where would you be? Well you get to see this year dont ya? Youre not even ranked in the top 25 pre-season and im sure the writers know something you dont know so i’d be careful with your words cause you might be eating them.
For me, i have no idea where Georgia will be next year. But i like our chances.
You know i think alot of people here were rooting for Auburn in the BCS, know i was. I dont care for Auburn to be truthful but they were representing the SEC and i was with them on that game.
We’;re all for the most part “Sports Fans” here and some are Die-Hard Fans. To me its just a game thats fun to watch but not my life. I have 5 kids that are more important than a game and hopefully your kids are as important. If we are to comment on other schools then we should show respect to individuals and not make this personal because thats just stupid.
Almost like shooting a person because he stole your piece of chicken. We are all Americans and have a passion for the game but not enough to make threats and personal attacks on individuals here. At the end of the day its just a game folks.

Hey UOAD,
Maybe if you drive around an elementary school, and of course they do not arrest you as a child molester first, possibly through osmosis, you can pick up an education.
Understand, you are such an easy target because everyone on an AJC blogs knows at some point in time, you will only say something classless and insulting. It is pretty bad when Schultz is threatening to ban you. Tone down the rhetoric a little and try and be a little more civilized.
