ATHENS — Georgia is expected to name Washington Redskins assistant coach Kirk Olivadotti to its defensive coaching staff by the end of the week.
And at least one former Bulldog says that is very good news.
“UGA you just got one hell of a coach in Kirk Olivadotti,” former Georgia and current Redskins defensive end Phillip Daniels posted on Twitter. “The defense just got a whole lot better. One of the smartest coaches I have ever known. Enjoy success with him on board. Congrats K.O.”
Georgia hasn’t announced the hire, but the Washington Post reported that Olivadotti is leaving the Redskins to accept the position. Assistant-coaching hires at Georgia often are delayed for a day or longer while pre-employment background checks are completed.
Olivadotti, 37, would fill the position vacated two weeks ago when inside linebackers coach Warren Belin resigned after one year at UGA to accept a job as linebackers coach with the Carolina Panthers.
Olivadotti has been on the Redskins’ staff for the past 11 years in a series of defensive coaching positions. He was linebackers coach from 2007 through 2009 and held the title of “defensive assistant” in 2010. (Daniels, a 15-year NFL veteran, has been with the Redskins for the past seven seasons.)
Olivadotti’s father, Tom, was a long-time NFL defensive coach with the Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants and Houston Texans. Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, who has led the search for Belin’s replacement, coached with Tom Olivadotti on the Texans’ staff in 2004.

All the haters can leave now. Thank you. I don’t think Grantham liked Belin. As you can see, he didn’t get another college LB coach, he went to the pros. He’s trying to get these young men trained up the right way. They will be playing like pros after too long. They’re technique, and their attitude will be on point.

@TampaGator…i know someone responded to you above about your comments on the dawgs, although by now i’m never sure if you are serious orf just trying to stir things up….I will say that you do indeed know how to get things going….I think this article was about the dawgs new coaching hire, so i’m trying to figure out the reasoning for the remarks about us living in a dream world…and to respond to “tide roll” regarding anything is really amusing…He claims to be a Bama fan, but that pretty much has been nixed by most Bama fans….Also, read his posts and you will see his agenda…I think you will find that agreeing with him on anything is absurd….Anyway, let the dawg fans dream if we want, nothhing wrong with that, i’m sure the gator fans do the same, as they should…we all know that what matters is takes place on the field year in and year out…and until we can beat you guys on a more consistant basis then beating our chest and saying how good we are or will be doesn’t buy us much….but i do know that at some point the worm will turn…hopefully we will be able to have some bragging rights on our side…but don’t dish on us just for having high expectations…It seems like alot of people are really concerned about our program when it comes from other schools…if we are so irelevant why do you think people even give us the time of day…go dawgs

@DawginLex…unfortunately until the dawgs start winning some of these games against the gators, and we will, we will have to live with some of this…i’m sure that there are dawg fans that throw out similar commnts also, but you are right there does seem to be alot of attention given to us by some gator fans…really surprises me because we really haven’t been a thorn in their side, so not sure what they are afraid of….Maybe they know that eventually the worm will turn and it will be our turn so they are enjoying it while they can…I have always tried to stay out of dishing on another team for the most part, usuallly i only defend the dawgs program when under attack, but i have to admit when that worm turn it will be hard not to have a little payback…but for now i’ll just look at it as motivation for the dawg nation…go dawgs

I get respect because of how I treat people and how I care for my family and how I live my life.
These obnoxious florida people i have encountered could experience 14 national titles over the next 14 years and they are still low life obnoxious people who the majority of normal people can’t stand and don’t want to be around.

Speaking of coaches I am glad to see FL got a coach with some character now. Urban has the nerve now to say that he has sent things to the NCAA abiout shady coaches and letting players play who shouldn’t. He is the King of kicking players off when not needed then bringing them back. That Moss player a couple of years ago he said was brought back because the plyers decided he then tipped the field goal agains SC and sent the gators to the Championship. Was busted again later for pot and has been in trouble in the NFL. Then there is Rainey kicks him off but brings him back for GA and tries to imply when he is kicked off that he won’t be back when everyone knows he will. Urban is definitely the “Pot calling the kettle black”

If Roke Watkins,6′4″ 340lb. starting right guard for South Carolina, from Fairburn, GA., Chance Warmack,6′4″ 330lb. starting left guard for Alabama, from Atlanta, GA.and Jujuan James,6′6″ 330lb. starting right tackle for Tennessee from N. Gwinnett,GA. are not named 1st team All-SEC offensive lineman next year there ought to be an investigation. Richt and Bobo,(Bobo especially!) simply refuse to get it. Games are won with offensive line talent such as this. Losing in-state players like these guys is the reason Florida has defeated you an incredible 19 out of 21 years. Richt can hire and fire as many coaches as he wants, but until he stops letting “Country Bobo” control his decisions (like hiring Friend!!), ya’ll will continue to lose to the Gators. Warmack, Watkins and James were your answers, but Bobo and Richt, and most of you Georgia fans refuse to acknowledge it. What a backward program.

Man, I can’t believe the amount of useless, stupid comments made by fans from other schools about anything to do with UGA coaches and the football team. UGA had a variety of problems that led to a poor season last year, but never the less, you morons come on here and try and start your garbage by thinking you know what went on.
During the next couple of years, when UGA sets the ship right, you will have to come up with a whole bunch of new garbage to spew.
The proof will come on the football field, where the game is won, and the future looks a lot better for UGA, than last years record shows for UGA.
I do not think that UGA will win the SEC next year, but I do believe that we will be much improved. I would dare say, most of you that write these stupid comments haven’t even lived long enough, to know how cylical teams success’s are over a long period of time. I do not care whether it is professional, college or high school.
I expect to see a bunch of negative comments after this post, but I chose to take the high road as far as insulting other people’s schools. As long as they are from the SEC, I am glad when they have success. I do not care for some of the shady practices some schools are alledged to have used lately, but I am not the judge or jury, so I leave that up to the professionals hired to investigate those things.

I am happy about the hire but please don’t try to compare this guy to his Dad. His Dad was the reason Marino never won a championship and Shula got pushed out of coaching. His dad and Shula were buddies like Martinez was with Richt. The difference is that Richt finally saw it and Shula never did. The Dolphins D was one of the worst D’s in the NFL under this guy’s dad. He took over after a real D coordinator left Miami, Bill Arnsparger. To this day I still hate to say or type this guys last name…..I hope he changes that for me!
