Redskins assistant headed to UGA, with strong endorsement from an ex-Dog

ATHENS — Georgia is expected to name Washington Redskins assistant coach Kirk Olivadotti to its defensive coaching staff by the end of the week.

And at least one former Bulldog says that is very good news.

“UGA you just got one hell of a coach in Kirk Olivadotti,” former Georgia and current Redskins defensive end Phillip Daniels posted on Twitter.  “The defense just got a whole lot better. One of the smartest coaches I have ever known. Enjoy success with him on board. Congrats K.O.”

Georgia hasn’t announced the hire, but the Washington Post reported that Olivadotti is leaving the Redskins to accept the position. Assistant-coaching hires at Georgia often are delayed for a day or longer while pre-employment background checks are completed.

Olivadotti, 37, would fill the position vacated two weeks ago when inside linebackers coach Warren Belin resigned after one year at UGA to accept a job as linebackers coach with the Carolina Panthers.

Olivadotti has been on the Redskins’ staff for the past 11 years in a series of defensive coaching positions. He was linebackers coach from 2007 through 2009 and held the title of “defensive assistant” in 2010. (Daniels, a 15-year NFL veteran, has been with the Redskins for the past seven seasons.)

Olivadotti’s father, Tom, was a long-time NFL defensive coach with the Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings,  New York Giants and Houston Texans.  Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, who has led the search for Belin’s replacement, coached with Tom Olivadotti on the Texans’ staff in 2004.

As for the trees at Toomers corner, thats just sad….Really sad…..But it is in the state of Ala so I guess hoodlem activity such as that is to be expected…..I just hope that since there is nothing for the AU fans to throw toilet paper at now, they’ll cross the border and bring their trash here……..As for Tide Troll, what else can be said about his behavior…..Now, as far as the hire is concerned, I’m very pleased….CMR seems to be putting a good group together…….As terribly as I’ve dogged CMR, he seems to be getting his crap in the bag….Good deal!….I for one think for some reason he is gonna turn things around soon…….I say if we win 8 this year, give him one more year with the new coaches and recruits….Just got a sneaking suspision that there is a new attitude in A town……Lets get behind the man this whole year and see what it brings us as a whole before throwing him to the wolves

1953, my question when Friend was hired was how did it take place. Tim Tucker reported he was Bobo’s hire, now we hear Grantham is hiring “his” choice for linebackers coach. That is obviously the mark of a Coach who delegates total authority. It doesn’t however relieve Richt of the responsibility. If the hires don’t work out through results Richt will be gone.

Good hire. Let’s see this defense turned into a well oiled machine. Our linebackers should be the best group in the SEC. No ifs, ands, or buts. There’s no reason our defense can’t be the top of the SEC and one of the best in the country if our S&C program is as good as it’s hyped up to be. We need to finish games and we’ll be fine. Too many times last season we failed to finish games, and we were close enough to win it but mental mistakes lost the game for us. I don’t expect that to happen this season.

This is how you know how much depth we have at LB. Try naming a starting line-up. That’s how loaded and deep we are at LB. I have a good idea of who it’ll be but there’s no definite player that just stands out and like wow, he’s got to start. There’s so many combinations that we can have and the good thing is our backers will never be tired for too long.

With reading all of these blogs why in the hell are bama fans coming over here talking smack ( I guess they want people to finally see they are relevant after numerous mediocore seasons) I guess the bama and florida fans are seeing what Georgia is putting together and starting to get scared. They are acutally seeing what is going on in their own programs Florida is quickly being in the backseat in the Sec East same with bama the lsu’s and auburn are running circles around your programs. I don’t no much about the CKO except what I read in his bio on the redskins website. I would think he is a really good coach but I hope he ends up being one heck of a recruiter. We have great high school players in this state and want uga to continue to keep most of them coming to uga as they did this year. I think this hire and the ol coach hire will be fine from the coaching stand point but the question is did we upgrade as a staff when it comes to recruiting? I sure hope we did, real dawg fans will trust that richt knows what he is doing. Maybe CKO can turn ray drew into brian orakpo.

The cool thing about our O-line recruits is potential! I have rad a little about Debell and it seems this kid is not rated as high as some others because he needed to put on a little weight. I also understand he is the prototypical LT as far as length and agility with one heck of a mean streak. I think we have missed out on the mean streak lately, I used to love Jean-Gilles for that reason. I also understand Ward has only played tackle for one season and is super agile. I like the nasty streak You hear about from Dantzler too. The potential is there for a great O-line with a good red shirt for a couple of these guys. BTW, We Dawgs don’t call it the “Dream Team” for how our recruits were ranked. We call it that because We went after the top in state talent and won the majority of these kids over. Those rankings are nice but when you get all the guys you evaluate to fill certain needs, the class becomes complete. GATA!

Uga fans: Ya’ll are right. High school football is superior in the State of Georgia. We see it every day in the development of our future All-American offensive guard : Big Chance Warmack from Atlanta Westlake (same high school as Cam Newton). You better believe Tennessee is happy with their Freshman All-American OT, Jujuan James from N. Gwinnett. And Hepzibah’s James Carpenter led us to a national title at left tackle. Ya’ll keep developing ‘em for us. We appreciate it. Sign some kids as talented as these for your offensive line, and then we’ll talk “Dream Team.” ROLL TIDE !

To all the Tide fans: Alabama has only won been in 2 SEC Championship games in the last 10 years so shutup! Same as UGA…..AND the only reason they have done ANYTHING was they had to spend the most money in the USA to BUY Saban. It took MONEY to buy the best college coach by paying him the MOST EVER to be their coach which has gotten good recruits from out of state. Alabama could not stand all of the losing that had taken place for quite awhile and went and bought wins because no other decisions they made in Tuscaloosa worked. Saban will be gone soon so how much are you going to pay for Miles or Stoops, because Richt will still be the coach at one school the longest in the SEC. Alabama, just like AU, bought their wins more than any schools in the nation EVER have. What does that say about the joke of a state ALABAMA? Both schools cant win without paying either the most ever for a coach or to get their players? Without the money Alabama would have NOTHING because football is all they have. UAB is the BEST school in the state and I hope they overtake both AU and UA in the future without having to go to EXTREME MEASURES. Pathetic if you ask most people….

Once again, TampaGator shows that he has absolutely no life. The guy is not even a Georgia fan, yet he INSISTS on degrading the university and its football team on EVERY UGA blog. It’s absurd and almost comical.

Hey TampaGator, we will tell you again — get the h*ll off a UGA blog if you’re such a hater. Go find a Florida blog on some paper south of the border and comment to your heart’s desire about how GREAT the Gators will be this year.

It’s really pathetic when fans of ANOTHER university come onto a UGA blog to run down the school, its coaches, its recruits, etc. It shows complete insecurity and a complete lack of balance in your life. You’re going to use a blog to spar with fans of another school? really? that doesn’t strike you as odd? I mean, I could give two sh*ts about any other SEC school… I don’t much care for Florida or Auburn or Tennessee or anybody else. But do you think I have EVER wasted a NANOSECOND of my life by going to their state newspapers and commenting on THEIR football section? I mean, it never crossed my mind… why the h*ll do I care what the Vols or Tigers or Gators do? I am worried about MY team and MY school…. ONLY.

So TampaGator, tide roll, Tech fans, etc…. take a look in the mirror and ask yourself “Don’t I have better things to do than get on a Georgia blog and run down their program?” You’re not much of a man if you do this stuff, if you ask me. Let Georgia fans talk about Georgia issues on a Georgia blog… you go find gators-are-great.com or whatever you read and talk about YOUR team.

Hell I have to travel to Auburn tomorrow, it’s depressing as soon as I cross the river and the state line and get into Alabama….I guess it’s all the inbreeding and the very poor gene pool that originated the state population and continues today….damn I dont want to go tomorrow but at least I can get some of their Auburn money and bring it back to Georgia. Sad they must then decide to either pay their players or eat, or go to the dentist….

It looks like to me, with the help of Todd Grantham, coach Richt is begining to put the pieces in place for a championship calibre team. I just hope this hire will stop the bed wetters from being such crybabies for a while anyway. I am aware of the many “DOG haters” out there, but damn Bulldog Nation………….if you know just a little about college football, you should damn sure know that fan base support and excitement often times spark the chemistry that leads to winning football. Guy was demoted to a non-position, nameless title of assistant. He got where he is because of his daddy, and now he is the savior of the UGA defense?

Laughable when SEC opponents are loading up with name NFL defensive coaching studs, e.g. Gators hire Bryant Quinn, an all-pro, all-time 49r defenseive stud to coach DL. Nobody outside N. Georgia thinks this hiring a Daddy’s boy as defensive coach is a solid hire.
