The ACC released Georgia Tech’s (and other conference teams’) 2011 football schedules this afternoon. So just in case that news has any of you looking around for Georgia’s schedule –- most of you, I know, already have memorized it –- I figured I’d post it here again:
Sept. 3: vs. Boise State in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in the Georgia Dome.
Sept. 10: vs. South Carolina in Athens.
Sept. 17: vs. Coastal Carolina in Athens.
Sept. 24: at Ole Miss.
Oct. 1: vs. Mississippi State in Athens.
Oct. 8: at Tennessee.
Oct. 15: at Vanderbilt.
Oct. 29: vs. Florida in Jacksonville.
Nov. 5: vs. New Mexico State in Athens.
Nov. 12: vs. Auburn in Athens.
Nov. 19: vs. Kentucky in Athens.
Nov. 26: at Georgia Tech.
A few things jump out:

For all of you downplaying UCF…it’s the largest school, by student body, in the U.S. They were also conference champions. Yes, we “should have” beat them, but they’re not akin to UAB or The Citadel or something. Fact is, they’d make a good substitute in the SEC over Vandy. Large school; recruits mostly FL; FL is the #1 state in the country for HS recruits, etc. I think overall they’d make a better SEC opponent than Vandy. Vandy could go to Conf USA or the Big East or something.
Speaking of Washaun, he could take lessons from A.Murray about off-field activity suggestions…

Buckeye,
You should be thankful that OSU lost a game. You don’t want to go into the NCAA’s undefeated. That whole 1976 IU thing hanging over your head makes it tough to swallow or fart.

Ok, let’s see, you go form 10 wins, to 9 wins in 2008, from 9 wins to 8 wins in 2009, and from 8 wins to 6 wins in 2010.
So we go from 6 wins to 4 or 5 wins in 2011.

One good thing about the Buckeyes and UM and MSU. They always play one or two MAC teams every year. The MAC team gets a very good pay day and…the money stays in state.

No schedule can turn Richt into a good coach. ‘11 will be his swan song. He will go down as a great recruiter who could win with the right staff in place, but also as a coach who had difficulty motivating and disciplining his team. ‘02-’05 seems like decades ago.

Boy a lot of ASSumptions being made early.
Look, first the offense wasn’t the problem last year, it was the defense.
CTG was running a 3-4 defense with 4-3 personnel. Compare his stats to Saban/Smart’s first year at Bama and they’re almost the same.
The difference in year two was Mount Cody. Everything in the 3-4 defense starts and ends with the front 3, and most importantly the NT which is the anchor.
Last year we had D.Tyson and A.Jones playing the nose, when they are actually true DE’s in the 3-4. They were pushed around and not very effective. Why? because they weren’t playing their natural position for the 3-4, and neither of them warranted a double team in that scheme.
Enter Big John Jenkins. NOW we have our true NT a 6-4, 340lb monster that will command double teams and allow Tyson and Jones to move to the end positions. Now you have 4 OL that will have to block those 3 and will have trouble. Then for the outside LBs you will have a rotation I suspect of Ray Drew and C.Washington who will fill in the J.Houston roll, not to mention J.Jones and R.Samuel who are both athletic freaks playing in the middle and let’s not forget about C.Robinson. Whatever combo comes out of that, it’s going to be an impressive front 7 that will allow CTG to showcase why so many top defenses are 3-4.
UGA WILL be back and have a solid if not special season this year. Mark it down. Laugh Now, Cry Later!
Go Dawgs!!!

No doubt about it; Consider it a great season if you go 7-5, and an 8 win season is totally beyond reach. Boise, Carolina, Missy St., Florida, Tennessee, and possibly Auburn and a vastly improved Tech team. Yep 7-5 would be an accomplishment.

No SEC schedule is easy, but this schedule is as good as one could hope for. It’s not just that we avoid BAMA, LSU, and ARK., but that we don’t have back to back tough games (I don’t consider Boise a tough game. UGA should maul them if they’re serious about having a good year). Also, our toughest games are at home…CAROLINA, AUBURN, MS. ST. It’s set up to win the east if we get any coaching at all.

You better hope the Georgia players don’t have your attitude about Boise….or they will be 0-1 at the start of the season. Boise finished in the top 10 and has many starters back….and almost all back on defense….and their excellent QB back on offense.

Jan Kemp exposed the crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or self-discipline.

sc is loaded. Now they have Clowney who can’t spell cat but he can sho play! I just hope he can be slowed down long enough for Murray to get off a pass or two. He has speed to burn. If he misses the QB, he follows the runner….and can catch him too. SC, Miss. State and Florida are the only real concerns on the schedule. Get at least one of’em and you have a 10-2 season. The table is set for a good year! If dawgs lose to SC, don’t worry, somebody else will beat’em. SC has always been inconsistent. They can’t win’em all. PULLeeze tell whoever scores to NOT showboat. Incidentally, Crowell is prone to clap his hands in the faces of the opposing team when he scores…….not good! GO DAWGS!!

Nothing surprises me anymore. I cannot predict the future and I’m usually 50-50 on the past, but if I were to take a wag on UGA’s 2011 season from CMR’s perspective, the Dome in DEC better be a part of it. We all saw a Freshman phenom out of USCe in 2010. Does UGA have the next Freshman(men)
icon(s)..? I’ll play and say UGA wins 7 regular season games. Why..? Some teams on your schedule will lose a little, some will gain a little and UGA will feel the pinch of both losing and gaining a little…

Talk about an EASY schedule – UGA will be playing a BS team who lost a lot of key players this past year. And the only other challenging team that UGA may play is Florida – and that is it. Auburn won’t be any good with their Offensive and Defensive Stars gone. And who is New Mexico State? South Carolina will have lost too many players – at least the ones who count. And MTSU?? You have got to be joking. Then UGA plays two Pansie teams in Tennessee (UT and Vandy) and you REALLY think they will be competitive? Then you have the two sissy teams out of Mississloppi; Old (yes – I mean’t to misspell that) Missy and it’s dysfunctional other partner, Miss Stake U. And then – you have that Trade School in the ATL who will (once again) be without an inspiring QB – and a inspiring football team all around. So – It should be NO surprise to anyone who looks at that easy-a** schedule if UGA goes 11-1. Then you can all wolf and bark about how Ole CMR brought the DAWGS back from the “Edge of the Cliff” and he will, once again, be ordained as your hero.

What I’ve noticed about Mark Richt is he gets into these periods of delapidation when Richt just gets worse and worse every year for 3 or 4 seasons in a row. Richt did it during the 2002-2006 period, then again during his most recent period of delapidation and underachievement of 2007-2010.
Les miles, since 2001, has never had 2 seasons in a row of delapidation where he has less wins consecutively.
Nick Saban rarely has more than 1 year of delapidation before he adjusts and quickly outgains his previous year.
But Richt just isn’y in their league. Richt respond too slowly to delapidation, and seems content with underachievement for much longer periods tha Miles or Saban.
So, I expect another delipdated season for Richt, he still seems to be satisfied with underachievement.
