Warren Belin is leaving the Georgia football coaching staff after just one season for the NFL.
Belin, the Bulldogs’ inside linebackers coach, has resigned to accept a position as a defensive assistant coach with the Carolina Panthers, UGA senior associate athletic director Claude Felton confirmed.
Belin, 43, joined the Georgia staff in February 2010 from Vanderbilt, where he coached linebackers for eight years. A native of Marshville, N. C., and a graduate of Wake Forest, Belin has 20 years of college coaching experience, also having worked at Cornell, East Tennessee State, William & Mary and SMU.
“Warren made some outstanding contributions to our team and program in his year with us,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said in a statement Thursday night, “and we wish him the very best in his new role with the Panthers.”
In addition to coaching inside linebackers at Georgia, Belin was in charge of the Bulldogs’ kickoff coverage unit, which ranked first in the SEC last season.
Belin joined the Georgia staff two days after last year’s national signing day and departed one day after this year’s signing day. Georgia signed three inside linebackers Wednesday: Amarlo Herrera of College Park (North Clayton High School), Kent Turene of Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., and Ramik Wilson of Tampa.

Runnin With The Dawgs, am I the only person on here who believes that Richt approves the offensive game plan?

No, I am saying demote him and hire an OC who is not in over his head in the SEC. If he doesn’t like that then show him the door. He is not an elite OC. How many big SEC games have there been where his offense has been a complete no show? I’ve lost count. We throw it up and down the field against the lesser teams on our schedule and then lay a big fat egg against the big boys. Its been like that dating all the way back to the 2007 South Carolina and UT losses. To me this last year’s Florida loss was the final straw. We could have potentially won that game if not for Bobo’s ignoramus play calling. Sure, that was a bad throw by Murray in overtime, but has anyone stopped to ask why in the hell Murray was throwing that damn ball like that in the first place? Its coaching. We had a freshmen QB with the biggest game of the year on the line and Bobo is letting him zip it down the middle of the field like its backyard flag football. Murray should have never been put in that position. I about threw my TV out the window.
I’m tired of the excuses. If you think everything is all hunkey dorey after a 6-7 season then maybe you need to go root for the nerds. Moral victories and excuses have no place at UGA. Winning is the bottom line.
Thanks.

Sounds like Grantham isn’t getting along with his position coaches to me.

Being the head coach and approving a game plan is one thing. Individual play calling is another. I’m sure that if Bobo had come in at halftime and said “this isn’t working we need to open the game up a little bit” that would have been approved also. The offense was dead in that game as it was in the SC game and Bobo didn’t do anything to try to wake them up.

I agree. When Richt hired Grantham it was the sign of desperation. The only Coordinating job Grantham ever had he was fired from. The D-line coach on anyteam has the least amount of responsibility of any of the defensive coaches.

Runnin With The Dawgs, You think Saban would have tolerated that crap? Richt’s problem is he turned the play calling over to an idiot so he could be like Bobby and be a CEO and doesn’t have the Nads to fire his buddy.

UGA fans are not seeing the real picture, coach’s are leaving because of one thing. They know that Richt’s, on his way out, one more season an that’s it. The new AD is going to bring in his on coach, that will be Dan Mullin.
I was told this bit of infro from a very large supporter at UGA, he said out with the preacher, in with a coach that knows how to bring back discipline to UGA.
I was told you are a shI+ for brains fool. It is now confirmed.

per ESPN Mark_Schlabach
Sources tell me that Georgia’s OL about to get a little Friendly (hint, hint)
Will Friend played at Bama, grad asst at UGA, beleive he was mentored by Calloway while at UGA. Calloway is now head coach at UAB where Friend is currently OL coach

Looks like it will be Will Friend as our next OL coach based on everything i have read and heard…This hire will probably be scrutinized pretty good by the dawg faithful…Have to trust that he will be a good O-line coach along with being a great recruiter…All reports are that he is the man..Also being reported by Scout. com as our next O-line coach…No confirmation from UAB for now, but all the pieces seem to fit, former grad asst, works for Calloway, who is a former UGA coach…I know most everyone was wanting a marquee name, but we shall see…go dawgs

The food looks good but does it taste good? You dont have to be a Gourmet chief to know if the food tastes good. This parallels to UGA’s recruiting class and also crtics of Mark Richts football program.

I try to post all the info i can get pertaining to AU, Bama, UGA..AU fan here but grew up in LaGrange with several UGA alums in the family. Because of that, I have an invested interest to what goes on in Athens and wish you guys the best 11 out of the 12 weeks of the season….Great recruiting efforts and i think you guys are primed to make a run

Great ! We are gonna hire a guy from a mickey mouse program. I guess while Richt is at it he should hire the LB coach from Central Florida who helped keep the dawgs out of the endzone or even the guy at South Carolina.

UAB gave up 12 sacks all year long, Not bad in any league. Friend has strong recruiting ties in Mississippi, which has limited but quality athletes annually. This will help you guys venture into MS. Lot easier recuting for UGA compared to UAB..

MIckey Mouse,
Seems to me that the LB ocach came from Vanderbilt, which is not, most years a real killer on the football field. Where was he before that assignment. Every coach has got to start somewhere, and since he is alumni of UGA, he might be an excellent fit.
Let’s see how he does if we do indeed hire him. At the very least, I think, the AD and CMR are working on getting the best coach possible for this position and I beleive they will.

Why the hell is Coach Richt looking for coaches that are currently employeed? He could has his pick of the litter with all the damn coaches on these blogs. All of you are arm chair coaches. If you think you can out coach any of the coaches on UGA’s staff then you would be coaching D-1 football. Hey Tally, I guess you have never received a promotion or taken a pay raise have you? Belin, took a pay raise and a promotion, plain and simple.

Add Jenkins and Papulu to the 2011 class, and we’ll have all of the beef at NT that we need. As large as Jenkins is 6′4 340, Papulu is supposed to be bigger at 6′6 365. During his senior year, playing OT as well, he reportedly had 55 pancake blocks. Sounds like a real Samoan to me…… It’s supposed to be between UGA, UCLA and a few others. With a nickname like Tombstone, how can we go wrong, and he’s not a Mormon any longer, so there’s no 2-year mission to delay his career.

You guys better start coming off the hips with better pay to lock these coaches in. Maybe the Carolina Panthers or another team can lure away Bobo as well.

Sorry to see Belin go–a really good coach.
I would like to see us go steal Kevin Greene from Greenbay as Outside Linebackers coach–Grantham can coach the Inside Linebackers. Break out the checkbook.
