Warren Belin is leaving the Georgia football coaching staff after just one season for the NFL.
Belin, the Bulldogs’ inside linebackers coach, has resigned to accept a position as a defensive assistant coach with the Carolina Panthers, UGA senior associate athletic director Claude Felton confirmed.
Belin, 43, joined the Georgia staff in February 2010 from Vanderbilt, where he coached linebackers for eight years. A native of Marshville, N. C., and a graduate of Wake Forest, Belin has 20 years of college coaching experience, also having worked at Cornell, East Tennessee State, William & Mary and SMU.
“Warren made some outstanding contributions to our team and program in his year with us,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said in a statement Thursday night, “and we wish him the very best in his new role with the Panthers.”
In addition to coaching inside linebackers at Georgia, Belin was in charge of the Bulldogs’ kickoff coverage unit, which ranked first in the SEC last season.
Belin joined the Georgia staff two days after last year’s national signing day and departed one day after this year’s signing day. Georgia signed three inside linebackers Wednesday: Amarlo Herrera of College Park (North Clayton High School), Kent Turene of Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., and Ramik Wilson of Tampa.

He’ll be missed. Big turnaround on KO coverage. Need to get another special teams coach, probably more critical than the linebacker coach. May have to get two people to replace him. Not sure there is another with skills at both positions like him.

i have never seen so many comments that reflected so much ignorance about football coaches and/or coaching. Is the moon full? Maybe the little techies didn’t have classes today. Folks.please try to think before you write a comment.

GT51..you are laughable with that comment…like it was admirable for Coach Paul Johnson to rescind that kid’s scholarship simply cuz he wanted to visit FSU before signing day????? Don’t believe ANY UGA signee would leave cuz the linebacker coach is leaving!

Only a complete moron would make a comment about him as jumping off a ship. Just about every coaches dream is to coach in the NFL. Coach Belin got his opportunity and good luck to him.

Georgia football is like my golf game; what I think it is and what it is are 2 different things. Never seen such a fan base with such a high opinion of their status with such an above average record. Can’t beat Florida and now losing to Central Florida.

Let’s see if I have this right. The OL coach leaves for Texas and he only get’s a $135,000 raise for doing so. Darn, must be the head coaches fault.
LB coach leaves after only one year. He left Vandy to come to Georgia as this was a forward career move. He leaves UGA to go to the NFL, which is another forward move. Almost any coach in the NCAA is going to jump at a chance to coach on the highest level, but it is UGA’s head coach once again. Simply amazing how some of you scholars arrive at these amazing conclusions, and us poor average DAWG fans can’t figure it out. I mean, anybody knows that $135,000 bucks would never motivate any of you to make a job switch, and wanting to coach at the highest level, should never motivate a position coach to leave. I am sure, if you knowlegable folks ever had a chance of moving up to manager versus flipping your burgers at your job, You would turn it down in a heart beat.

Hire either Pollock or Randall Godfrey now!! I agree the LBS played better but that what they are suppose to do in a 3-4 defense. Good luck in the NFL, Coach Belin.

Anyone who knows anything about Coach Belin knows that he fully deserves every promotion he gets. The real shame here is that he is an excellent recruiter through relationship building-just ask Christian Robinson. He is also an excellent teacher of the game, hence the NFL offer. No doubt he will be missed, but I wish him the best; he made and excellent impression on several members of my family, including a nephew that attended camp last summer. All the best to Coach Belin and I hope we can find a replacement that is a lot like him.

I played lb at a D1 school, not UGA, but I can tell you, the lb’s were MUCH improved this year and it
was not due to an overabundance of talent. I would love to have seen Belin with Rennie Curran.

Well we got you a good raise to come to UGA, hope they can match our pay for you! The way I see it, we did not have a LB’s coach until after Grantham came (then it was awhile) before you were hired; so I guess we are back to where we were last year. No harm done! Maybe Grantham can recruit his man that knows what he is doing now! Man you just dumped on a university, coaches, and most of all, the young men that looked to you to coach them! I wish you had never came here, we are looking for stability in the staff also, you are no better than a player leaving early for the pros.
Good Luck to you, but you sure F_____U_ a lot of people! Don’t let the door hit you in the ASS!

You’ve got to be kidding- Budweiser finally got someone with skills? I would like to see Harvick drive for RPM. He would struggle also. Kahne has great talent that unfortunately has not been realized due to being shuffled from one car owner and car manufacturer to the next. Plus, how bad can it be when you are that HOT!!!! If he goes to Hendricks and still does not produce then I will have to side with you. The one thing I do agree with you is that Daytona can’t come fast enough.

He wasn’t here long enough to make a huge impact, but there is no doubt we improved at LB this year, though it could have just been experience. Definitely nothing bad I can say about this coach, which is saying something for UGA the last few years.
Best of luck to him in the pros.

He figured richt will last 1 more year and then he would be out of job—so he jumped off the sinking ship to a pro job for about the same money or less. At least it will put food on the table for a year or two.

You another one of the UGA supposed fans who keep repeating something you heard while cooking my fries in McDonalds…You don’t know Jackschitt about football, only how to try and trash a good man and a good coach….There should be no question why our coaches leave..
We have a spoiled fan base that continually call coaches out on these blogs who don’t know anything about football…get back in there and supersize my fries, and find somebody else to criticize…Soon with idiots like you no coaches will want to come to UGA…Pay scale got screwed up last year when we spent 750000 on one guy…If I only made 20% of what the coordinator made, it would not be much incentive for me to come to work either…

Poor Kent Turene and Ramik Wikson, lured and promised by a coach of your position who undoubtly already had the job and went out the door on you before the ink on your letter of intent had dried. Ask for your release, which you will not get, to confirm it. The dream team already losing steam, then losing to the potato farmers and roosters to start the season 0-2, OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
