Help wanted: UGA posts vacancy on football coaching staff

You’ve got a few more days to apply for Stacy Searels‘ old job.

The vacancy on Georgia’s football coaching staff was officially posted on the university’s employment website Friday. The posting says applications will close on Feb. 4.

(While no one expects the job to be filled by someone who learns of it from perusing the website, it nevertheless is required to be posted for five business days.)

The posting doesn’t provide much in the way of specifics about the job, defining it simply as a “replacement” position for an “asst football coach.” Among the lines left blank: salary range and work hours.

Job duties include “evaluating and recruiting qualified student-athletes … whose athletic and personal skills make them highly competitive in the SEC and nationally, and whose academic potential makes them good candidates for a meaningful academic experience and graduation at the University of Georgia….”

Interested, anyone?

And speaking of Searels, the offensive line coach got a $135,000 raise to leave UGA for Texas. Click here for more on that.

I think (hope) the leading contender was too loyal to jump before signing day. That makes me think the leading conender (whoever it may be) is not someone like Ralph Fridgen or a non-Super Bowl NFL guy who has no recruiting or other responsibilities beyond the end of the 2010 season. Some of the young guys (at UCF and Duke ) who’ve been mentioned have relationships with their current Head Coach which go back to undergraduate days.We can no longer tout ouselves as offering a stable situation in Athens. Any candidate will swallow hard and measure risk. This makes me think it will be someone young and hungry. But surely Coach RIcht has his man by now.Maybe we’ll know by the end of the week.

Too bad he can’t hire a nose guard for this defense that he has committed to. I don’t know what gave Richt the idea that he had 3 or 4 years to implement this defense, but I can tell you he does not. Stop the run this year or seeeee yaaaa.

Richt needs to coach up the offense and QB’s with aggressive play calling.. .. trickeration, reverses, fake kicks, no huddle, etc……. Grantham with Belin, and Lakatos are all experienced and I ‘m sure will see a great Junkyard Dawg DDDDDDEfense this year… with the Dream team class coming in… PLAY”EM ALL… early… no seniority system … Go Dawgs !!

CMR is putting together the best recruiting class UGA has ever seen, and yet, there is still this vocal minority of morons talking about firing? You think some flash in the pan coach from out of state is gonna do that. There are maybe three other coaches in America who could build a class like this. None of them are ever coming to Georgia to coach. I don’t want them anyway. UGA is in great hands. For all the firinf squad fair-weather nimrods: When UGA is back in the limelight, just stay away. Nobody likes two faced drama queens.

We will get a good coach and UGA will be much improved in the next couple of years I think. Get off CMR’s back as I believe he still has what it takes to make the DAWGS champions. That said, I will now wait for all of the jerks that have nothing better to do but cut down UGA sports to post your negative Doo Doo. I too, have expressed, in my humble opinion, areas I think can be improved in coaching, but I am no more informed than 95% of the people on here and not really qualified to pass judgement. College football, is result oriented and all folks see is the win and loss column most of the time.

I theorize after signing day, Bobo switches to QB coach with a more active role in recruiting, Garner takes on the OL, and Ralph Friedgon(sp?) is hired as new OC.

That would make me very excited for September.

I hope everybody has a great day!! Go Dawgs!!!

Every year UGA is one of the top 10 schools in recruiting. Then what happens? Can’t coach’em up! The CEO is more concerned with his mission work than with winning football games.

For all you blind lovers of the CEO, after he’s fired don’t come back here, we don’t want morons for a fan base!

Maybe UGA should hire Merlin the magician to coach. Seeing that this years version of a dream team will be either busy filling the blotter on their rap sheets while wasting their freshmen season and or looking to transfer when Richt is fired after the dream ends, cemented by loss number 19 of 22 in Jacksonville….

Please remember to point out that the top 10 recruiting class you speak of is usually only 4th or 5th best in the SEC.

Thanks!

If I were Mark Richt I would look closely at the Air Foce Academy’s OL Coach, Clay Hendrix. He’s a Georgia boy who made good. He played for legendary Commerce Coach Ray Lamb (who’s still involved at UGA) and brought in a state championship while a player at Commerce. He has taken 2 star, undersized linemen and helped Air Force be in the top 5 NCAA rushing teams since he’s been there. He still has family in the Commerce area. Friedgen is a pipe dream; he’s not going to go from head coach to OL coach. OC maybe but not OL coach. Hendrix is good, real good.

Lest anyone forget, and it seems a lot on here conveniently have………Mark Richt recruited Matt Stafford, Knowshon Moreno, Mohammed Massaquoi, AJ Green, and Justin Huston. All NFL first round caliber players (for all you nit pickers, MoMass may have been early 2nd round). While great recruiting is the life blood of any program, don’t automatically equate bringing in an outstanding class with winning championships. Even Ray Goff was a great recruiter, and he couldn’t coach his was out of a wet paper bag when it came to x’s and o’s. So the moral of the story should be, enjoy the great class CMR and his staff are putting together, then judge how they coach them in the fall. I am as excited as anyone that Georgia will sign a top 5 class, but I also know that it does not erase the fact that these players still have to be coached and trained and brought up to speed on the college level. In the end, it all comes down the the W’s.

SmellsLikeFish, buena dias to you 2, he didn’t win any games, but he hasn’t lost 18 of the last 21 neither. This is a new decade, a new century, no longer will Mike Cavan or George Hafner be able to rent the house across the street from Hushel Walkers house to see who’s coming or going nor will they be a million 3 hundred higher than Clempson when they handoff the briefcase at 2 AM nor will any of this years “dream team” get 2 Trans AM’s, let alone one. Times have changed, we’re all on a level field now, no more 100 handshakes, well, Auburn being the rule. But it’s a level field now, coaches win on the field, and if one of their asst’s. is stupid enough to make the choke sign to a backup FG kicker, he better hope he misses…

Big Dawg,

Take any of Richt’s teams, even last year’s, and put them in the ACC. They would be ACC champs 10 years running, but wouldn’t have sniffed the BCS, because the ACC sucks so bad.

I would rather be where we are, and one day finally catch a break against the SEC boys. I think this year’s class is different, in the notion that we are not only recruiting great athletes, but seemingly great leaders.

I cannot wait to see the 2012 and 2013 version of UGA football. Don’t have too many unreasonable expectations for this coming year, but do plan on seeing improvements.

Good point D A DoubleU G. Mark Richt should definitely go back to coaching in the ACC. Especially since he can’t seem to beat Florida and Alabama and Auburn and Mississppi State……..And if you want to check Rivals.com to look at recruiting, it looks like Saban and Bama are ranked #1 in this year. Should we go ahead and award them the National Championship in 2013, based on your reasoning?

Columbus Dawg

Right on Big Dawg, no more excuses. The above post that assumes Richt STILL has what it takes to bring a National Title to UGA has no merit. Mark Richt had what it took as an OC to help take Florida State to MNC, but at Georgia, his first SEC Championship team had one loss. Guess who it was to?

I also remember what all of the Georgia people here in Columbus thought about the 2005 so called championship. Lost to the same SEC East team again that year. Had to have that same SEC East team get upset by the Chickens to vault mighty Richt into the Dome.

I have news for all the homers, there is better than 50% of the money people who wnat Richt gone now. The biggest part of these people know what UGA Football is supposed to be, a good strong defense, and a strong running game. These last two years are not the only years by far that these two aspects of the game were missing. I really don’t think that Richt understands that these are by far the two most important aspects of UGA’s football program. Richt likes to talk a lot about schemes, but talk ain’t getting it done. If the O line is not taught to effectively run block, then all of his schemes are a moot point.

I can promise you that I am far from being a fair weather fan, and there were plenty of D.A. blind homers who kept wanting to give Ray Goff more time. Goff was a D.G.D., just was not right for head coach. Got to have someone who will not take any crap, period.

I know what the homers will say next, they will want to start comparing Richt’s record to Dooley’s ect., ect. The problem with that is this, Dooley vaulted the program to the next level. Since that time UGA has become one of the largest College Football brands in the nation. Second only to Texas in funds. Mark Richt has carried away more money from UGA than any one man in history, for any reason, any sport. Results are now going to be demanded, and the poor showing in the Bowl game just made things worse.

Every program has down years. We’re no different. I look for this years class, if they all sign, to help immensely, but not until 2012, at the earliest. Perhaps Crowell, if he comes, will be big help but we’ve got to get better line play to run the ball, regardless of who the back is.
I’m a big CMR fan, but if he doesn’t show improvement this year, I’m afraid he won’t be around to reap the rewards of this years’ signing class. The question on the floor is: What does it take this season for CMR to keep his job?

Hey kerryb, It’s a shame that people who are knowledgible about UGA football have to put up with D.A.’s like you and Gravytrain. There is not one of these people that I mention that does not want Mark Richt to succeed in turning this thing around. They are however football savy enough to know what it will take to do it. We will see how the coaching changes play out. From this day until September 3 the largest factor in Mark Richt’s world will be off the field troubles and arrests. Another year anywhere close to 2010, and Richt won’t make it to the Boise game.

HRD posting is a batch! I have to hand it to you CMR fans because you’re playing the game at a different speed than most. If you look at the guys record you clearly see that Neal Callaway and Brian Van Gorder was the reason for his early success!! Stay pat with your guy because the other schools have upgraded around you with coaches that are hungry and they will pass you by regardless to your recruits. Good thing you have Ga Tech to knock around.

The only thing Athens gets excited about and attempts to brag about is recruiting, which is sort of like winning a warmup then choking when it counts.
