First thing first: I don’t know if Ralph Friedgen would take the job, if offered it. Seems improbable, at first blush.
But it certainly has become a hot conversation piece in cyber-corners of Bulldog Nation.
Friedgen, the former Georgia Tech and San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator, the recently ousted Maryland head coach, as Georgia’s offensive line coach and running game coordinator?
Friedgen’s name was floated almost as soon as Stacy Searels left for Texas, although not as frequently as the names of Mac McWhorter and Hugh Nall. The buzz intensified Thursday, when Friedgen was reached by UGASports.com’s Anthony Dasher and declined to comment on the matter, and when the website footballrumormill.com, which specializes in rumors about the coaching carousel, said Friedgen “is in good position to land the OL job at UGA. He’s one of 3 candidates.”
Mark Richt hasn’t commented on the coaching search at all, not even on Searels’ departure. Richt is pretty busy, as you might have heard, on the recruiting trail. UPDATE: And Friedgen’s agent, Jack Reale, seemed to douse the rumor in a conversation with the Athens Banner-Herald’s Marc Weiszer, telling him: “I don’t think there’s any truth to that.”
Friedgen, 63, does sound like a man who wants to keep coaching somewhere, based on this excerpt from a blog posted Monday by the Baltimore Sun’s Jeff Barker:
Friedgen hasn’t taken another job yet. “I’m interested in hearing that people are interested in me. If something really excites me, I’ll get back in,” he said.
I asked him about some of the college jobs he has been linked to, and where he might end up. He stopped me to make a clarification.
“That’s in the NFL or in college,” he said, not wanting to limit his possibilities.
So what do you think about Athens as a possibility, however remote it might be, for Friedgen?

Whatever is right! You leg humpers insist on telling the ACC how bad their coaches are, and yet you’ll jump on the first one that gets fired…cracks me up. TAKE the guy…who cares, just shut up about it. In a year or two, when he leaves your butts in the dust for a ‘better’ job, tell us all how much you love and respect him then. Whadda buncha crap.

Who cares that’s the nature of the business. No one I know has said ACC coaches are a bad bunch. Ok……we’ll take Freidgen and give your team Bobo.

Maybe we are moving in the direction of demoting Bobo to just being the QB Coach. He is a dang good OC and his playcalling will be a hell of lot better than Bobo. Would be a great hire and will get this offense moving at a faster pace.

OSU has played in 8 BCS bowl games in the last 9 years and is 5-3 in them.
UGA? 2-1 in 3 BCS bowl games in the same span. But hey – you’ll always have that big win over Hawaii

Maybe UGA can clone Herschel, Lindsey and Buck and they can be great again!!!! OR maybe they can for once hire someone who wants to win instead of an ole fat man and Mr. Ritch! No need to fear of being winless Gator Fans, Georgia is on the schedule!

Would love to see “The Freig” even if only a short time deal. He could really help Bobo learn to be a better OC. If not, Hugh Nall woudl be great choice great, loyal DAWG – tough as Nails, hard working player in HS and college. He would instill a level of toughness and work ethic we have been missing on the OL. Hugh knows what it means to be a JYD!
Hopefully, next Thursday we announce that Rodney Gardner is no longer part of the program!

He should be.

Be thankful that Ohio state didn’t play UGA that year or there would have been a 10th bowl loss vs the SEC.

Lex,
This is a guy at the office, in his cubicle bored killing time on his Friday trying to get a rise out of all the back and forth.
Look guy, beieve what you want but if what you said where true then you would not have Conferences like the PAC 10, Big 12, Big 10, Big East, ACC all killing themselves to gain some market share that the SEC has.
SEC drives the bus in College football and if you are not a fan of the SEC then you are a hater. It is as simple as that, and its ok. I have plenty of schools I cannot stand, but I don’t visit the websites and act like a troll on them. So if you wanna act like a troll knock yourself out, but don’t spurt out opinions as facts.

@Do You Guys:
Yeah, everyone outside of the South worships the NFL..which is about to be locked out (that’s alright though, because you’ll still have your COLLEGE football to watch, right). Tell me, are you a fan of the Cleveland Browns or the Cincinnati Bengals? Neither has been relevant in MANY years.
And I sh*t you not, the NFL and “Fantasy Football” has become nothing more than jokes. I’ve actually watched games with people where they were more concerned about what was happening to their teams in Fantasy Football versus what was actually occurring in the real game! That’s the definition of pathetic..that or having 50 year old grown men standing in sub zero temperatures with their shirts off and painted from head to toe in their team’s colors.
Again, if your precious NFL is locked out next year, we in the SEC will be happy to kick OSU’s a$$ again next year (if y’all even get to a bowl-might be hard with those 4 starters-including your QB-riding the bench for the first 5 games).
Idiot.

DawginLex – Relax. People get on these vents for one of three reasons. 1) they are a fan of the team and want to have intelligent conversations with other fans. 2) they are fans of a rival team and want to talk a little sheet. or 3) they troll blogs and pick fights with other people because they have nothing better to do. It is very easy to hide behind a keyboard and protect your identity in order to talk smack and get someone infurriated. Most of these people got beat up in high school and have never really been good at any sport. Sure, they can get on here and say that they were all state and that they would have played in the league if it wasn’t for that nasty knee injury, but, you and I know better. Don’t fall for it. Take some blood pressure pills and have a beer!!

Why is it going to be hard for OSU to win those first five games Carlton? Don’t forget who you are talking about. It’s fairly easy to win against Youngstown St., Ohio, Miami of Ohio, Northwestern, and Marshall. They’ll sail through those and their joke of a confernece and then get back to the business of getting waxed by an SEC school.

Hey–Ohio State fan—–the reason we have only played in 3 BSC games is beacuse we play in a real Conf that requires a Conf Championship game and the teams in our Conf are actually really good teams. We also play in a Conf that produces National champions every year—The big O would have a hard time surviving the cut if they had a schedule that played UF, Alabama, Auburn, and LSU—then you would get a break and only have to play Arkansas, SC, and Miss ST. By the way all of these teams were ranked this year—can you say that about your conf? It must be hard to roll IU, ILL, NW, or Purdue each year—congrats! What a joke you are!
