Cordy Glenn returns, but will have new coach and maybe new position

ATHENS – When offensive lineman Cordy Glenn decided last week to remain at UGA for his senior season, rather than enter the NFL draft, he didn’t know he’d soon be getting a new coach.

But that will be the case, with the departure this week of offensive line coach Stacy Searels for the same position at Texas.

“I’ve spoken with Coach,” Glenn said today. “He just told me he loved me, and he wished us the best. It was a business decision; he had to do what was best for him and his family. I respect him. It’s a business at the end of the day.”

Glenn said he has no inkling who might be hired to replace Searels, but “I’m positive Coach Richt will bring somebody great in for us. I just want to play football. I really don’t care who the coach is. I just want to play.”

Speaking of playing: Glenn, who started all 13 games at left guard this past season, said he expects to play “a little tackle” next season.   How much? “See how the season goes,” he said.

Glenn said he decided to return for his senior season for several reasons: “improving my draft status, getting closer to my degree and just helping this football team out.”

——-

Cornerback Brandon Boykin, who also decided last week to forgo the NFL draft and return for his senior season, said today that last season’s 6-7 record was “a disappointing season that nobody really was proud of” and that he didn’t want “to go out on that note.”

He said he’s encouraged by changes in the strength and conditioning program, and convinced the 2011 season will be much better.

“I think we’ve hit the ground running with this off-season program that you’ve heard a lot about, and everybody has high hopes,” Boykin said. “… Everybody really does feel we have a great chance to compete and win the SEC this year.

“Coming off [this past] season, nothing is going to be laid back at this point,” he added.  “We’re not happy with where we ended, and everybody has that type of mindset that we want to get back on top. They definitely implemented that in the strength and conditioning program.”

Another reason Boykin decided to return for his senior season: He said he’s on track to graduate in December, meaning he can leave for the NFL next year with his degree in hand.

Bama down. Youre kidding right. Lets see 10-3 top ten finish with a rebuilt defense made up of sophomores. Tell me again how that 6-7 finish felt. How has the past 3 Dream Teams worked out for you. I remember the blogs when Caleb King signed with Georgia. We will playing for championships and King will win TWO Heismans. How did that pan out? Anyone? Anyone? Thought so. By the way Bruce Miller of CF grew up only wanting to be a Dawg. Richt would not acknowledge his existance on a visit with Tripp Chandler. Last time I looked Dream Team 2 QB Aaron Murray was running for his life from Miller. Nice assessment by “Tan Man”

Hey Buteye: Is that a marijuana leaf growing on the side of those ugly helmets. Well it took a good while for you buteyes to finally beat an SEC team in a any bowl. If Arkansas receivers could catch a ball and a break or two, you would have lost that game to! Keep wishing you could play in the SEC instead of the BIG FLOP. By the way, your players should have not been able to play in the bowl game, however, someone felt sorry for OSU and allowed them to play. Rules are different for certain folks. Loser!

I am not sure I have seen more homers in a long time. You do realize Ga went 6 and 7 and lost to Central Florida? Are you guys aware the same head coach is still there?
I want some of the same thing you guys are drinking.

Tide Roll, u sound like a broken record. Every post you brag about Womack, and Carpenter, yet you never mention the fact that UGA’s center Ben Jones is better than Bama’s center, and yet he is from Alabama. Also you never mention that the weak link to Bama’s team this year was their O.L. Both backs ypc was down almost a full yard, and Bama gave up almost twice as many sacks this year. So go back to your b.o.l. site and cry with the rest of the bama fans about losing both studs form valdosta, and you might want to worry about losing the stud from griffin on nsd. It’s funny how Bama comes off of a national title, and yet they are only concerned about out recruiting a terrible UGA team that went 6-7. UGA will be back, but they don’t have to worry about being back when it comes to Bama, because the last time i looked, UGA had beaten bama 3 or the last 4 games, and UGA and the pitiful Richt had beaten bama 3 times in a row until 2008. One last thing, do you remember how to say UGA isn’t man enough? I think UGA kicked your mighty tide’s ass in the famous tuscaloosa that year. Go show your ignorance on the b.o.l. site, where you clowns predicted on the front page that Mitchell was commiting to the tide. Have a good time on this site until NSD, when you will lose your top d.e. recruit to UGA!!

Who cares,

So Georgia beat Bama 3 out of the last 4? So what. Bama beat Georgia 4 of the last 7. We also won the only one that counts- that being the last game played. Oh, and might I add that we dominate Georgia in the head to head series. 36-24. WE OWN YOU! Deal with it and get over it.

Here’s the deal: Stop talking and start getting the job done! Talk is cheap, and, as we know based on experience, actually easy. Getting the job done; not so easy. Actions speak louder than words. In fact, I would like to see no talking, either on or off the field, and just good solid football. When that happens, I’ll be satisfied.

Snoop Dawg……..With all due respect, take a look at Alabama and their record 10 years prior to Saban arriving……..No it usually doesn’t take 10 years to turn a program around, but programs have gotten “stuck” having made ill-advised changes………..Mark Richt is a winner, on that we may disagree………but given his “body of work” over the last ten years, we could certainly do worse. I subscribe to the theory that college football programs run in cycles……..note my examples……..When Michigan was down, they went out and got W.Virginias coach…….looks like that didn’t work out so well, now Michigan gets to start over yet again after three mabe four years with Rodrigues………be careful what you wish for, Grantham has had but one year, and while you may not like Mark Richt, I do believe given time, he has proved to be an excellent coach that can pull things together………….but even if he can’t, remember, these five star prospects read these blogs……….you may well be underminding your own team, my friend !……….It won’t be you or me who decides wheather Richt stays or goes……….I would subscribe to you: supporting our Georgia Bulldogs will work to help turn the team around much faster than tearing them down………Regards, RED

Bama:
I wouldn’t talk a lot considering you were pre-season #1 and ended up losing 3 games. You didn’t even play in a BCS game.

Also, your arch rival beat you and won the national title and the Heisman trophy this year so you are not even the best team in your own state.

In 2011, Bama was average.

I think the large number of UGA players in the NFL is says the most about CMR. How can you not win more with some of those guys? The talent is there, the coaching is not. There is no reason that the Bulldogs should not be in the mix every year. I live in Denver and every big UGA game was on TV. If they start losing more, less TV time. Less TV time, Less top recruits.

Crowell averaging 200 yards per game???? Who are you kidding. There is no way any running back will ever have that many yards at UGA with all those receivers, Tight Ends, and a Throwing QB with Bobo as OC.

crawdaddy………..Don’t forget my friend thses 5* recruits read these blogs, and while you may well be frustrsted, along with me and many other Georgia alum and fans……….remember, college football runs in cycles. Example : Texas, Miami, Southern Cal, UT, oh and Michigan, the winningest program in all of college football………couple down years, got rid of Lloyd Carr [I think he was a pretty good coach myself] went out and got Rich Rodrigues who squandered three more years, and now you are in a major rut !!! starting all over again. You may disagree, and you have every right, but when you look at Mark Richt’s “body of work ” over the last 10 years , I think I would give him more than two years to turn the ship around…………Me? I don’t want to see us in the same rut Michigan finds itself in…………But if you are the type that wants to go ahead and sink the ship, like many are, keep spewing your negative venim and do your best to hurt our recruiting……..or you could do as some of us have chosen to do…………Support The Georgia Bulldogs !……….Regards, RED

Instead, you must demand more than this of them, or you are a Richt Apologist drinking Kool-Aid dragging this # 11 All-Time Football Program into the Ground :

It’s not a talent issue, which has brought us this these last three years :

Lost – to # 01 Auburn 31-49
Lost – to # 15 Missy State 12-24
Lost – to # 12 Arkansas 24-31
Lost – to # 22 South Carolina 6-17
Won vs. # 13 Georgia tek 30-24
Lost – to # 03 Florida 17-41
Lost – to # 17 LSU 13-20
Won vs. # 24 Michigan State 24-12
Lost – to # 22 Georgia tek 42-45
Lost – to # 01 Florida 10-49

The biggest change that CMR needs to make is to stop recruiting the low-class illiterates and thugs who he seems to think will win for him and keep his oversized paychecks coming in. People like Marcus Dowtin, A.J. Green, Washaun Ealey, Caleb King, and others too numerous to mention are not team players, they’re thug wannabes who are much closer to a gang than a team.

It’s sickening to see felons and goons like these representing the state’s flagship university.

Not really sure why you are calling AJ Green a thug. Anyway, does anyone have any idea who CMR is looking at as the next OL coach? I just hope that he has recruiting connections around here and Richt will let him coach. Unlike I heard of the handcuffs he put on Searles!

Has Anyone Else Noticed that every time a UGA assistant is fired, leaves, resigns that the next coach hired is a step back.

Has Anyone Else Noticed that every recruiting season and signing day the Sun is Shining so brightly on Athens and the Dawg Nation, but when the season starts the “we do not have great player or our coaches are doing a horrible job’ starts echoing throughout the stadium and the airwaves.

Has Anyone Else Noticed that the strength and conditioning program has been about 10th in the conference the past 8 years and replacing the S&C Coach with the assistant S&C Coach is a real winner way to go.

By displaying the national championship trophies in Wal-Marts, the state of Alabama increases its tourism because that’s as close as anyone in Georgia is ever going to get to one. Can I get a Roll Tide? Ten bucks says Bama’s on #20 before UGhhhhh hits #3. Reality called puppies. You still got Richt as a coach. Deal with it. Roll Tide!!
