(UPDATE:) Texas has completed its deal with Stacy Searels and plans an announcement later Thursday afternoon of his hire as offensive line coach.
8:45 p.m. Wednesday:
Georgia offensive line coach Stacy Searels traveled Wednesday afternoon to Austin, Texas, where a website covering University of Texas athletics, Orangebloods.com, reported Wednesday night that he accepted an offer to become the Longhorns’ offensive line coach.
Texas has not yet announced a hire.
Texas head coach Mack Brown has been seeking an offensive line coach since the December retirement of Mac McWhorter. Auburn O-line coach Jeff Grimes last week turned down the position.
Searels and his wife, Patricia, left Athens-Ben Epps Airport on a private plane to Austin shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday. They were picked up in Austin by Brown’s wife, Sally, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
Neither Searels nor Georgia officials have commented on the matter.
Searels, a native of Trion, Ga., has been the Bulldogs’ offensive line coach since 2007. He previously was offensive line coach at LSU, Cincinnati and Appalachian State.
Georgia’s offensive line was expected to be a pillar of the 2010 team but drew much criticism as the Bulldogs struggled to run the ball effectively. Georgia finished 10th in the SEC in rushing.
In another development Wednesday regarding Georgia’s O-line: Backup lineman Tanner Strickland won’t be back with the Bulldogs this year, having decided to skip his final season of eligibility. He plans to complete his degree in speech communications and move on with life after football.
His Georgia career was slowed by shoulder problems. He was redshirted in 2007, played in 13 games in 2008, missed the 2009 season after shoulder surgery and played in 13 games in 2010, starting three.

Folks, the Univeristy of Georgia football program is officially a national joke. Who is going to figure out who is to blame and who we need to arrest?

AT LAST!!! I have been critical of him for two years. Let’s find someone who can coach to help the line develop. We have wasted a lot of talent over the past years because of him.

I believe that the man who goes by The Truth is another SEC team fan who wants us to keep a loser like Richt in charge for as long as possible. Hell, he might actually be Nick Saban.

Rome is burning and CMR is playing the fiddle! UGA football program is going downhill fast with no leadership. WE are the joke of the SEC! Maybe McGarity will hire us a NEW headcoach next year?

We ran the ball with less talent in years past. Mark and Greg will get a great fit for UGA. Good luck Searles! As far as you guys gals that are negative on CMR need to understand that UGA’s chances are better with him in charge. He did not have the support needed with Mr. Evans at the helm. We will be taking a risky chance if we let him go because we could end up with either a prospect that has never been a head coach or having to take our third option. Either direction could be very costly. Recruits like tenure and security. We need to start acting like true Dawgs and support this program more. If you do not think the student athletes (recruits) do not pay attention to what is being said about certain programs you are wrong. Dawgs fans are rogue at times.

This coach see the writing on the wall and so do the recruits. Our program is headed for some dark days and he knows what is to come with Richt.
Just like was said before, you were freakin jumping for joy when we got this guy from LSU and now he was never worth anything? Texas sees the value here and they are giving our coach an option to jump off the sinking ship.

True Blue Dawgs. Here is a truth: When the time comes, when we purge the Bulldog Nation of that demon Mark Richt and his followers, then do not hire anyone with UGA football mafia ties. Let’s cut the incest and ignorance. Let’s expand the gene pool and hire the best minds and leaders in the nation.

i think Searels saw the writing on the wall. For whatever reason, either he didn’t have good recruiting judgment or skills, or he couldn’t coach them up, but I think he knew he would be fired after 1 more year unless the running game REALLY turned around. The running game has been just ok for far too many years since Searels has been here. With the top ranked RB’s and OL’s Richt and Garner have recruited for Searels to work with, it’s amazing how bad they have been in the run. I would imagine Richt had a SERIOUS chat with Searels, and Searels was feeling the heat.

STORRS — — Zach Hurd, a senior guard on the UConn football team, has made up his mind about offensive line coach Mike Foley.
“He’s the best O-line coach in the nation,” Hurd said Tuesday. “If you ask all of our players that have been through here, they’ll tell you he knows his stuff. I mean, think about it. [Senior guard] Matt [Olivier] and I weren’t big recruits. None of the people he has are big recruits. But how do we still have a 2,000-yard rusher [Donald Brown in 2008], two 1,000-yard rushers [Jordan Todman and Andre Dixon in 2009]. That’s not because he’s a bad coach. That’s because he’s the best coach in the nation. He’s taken players that these big schools didn’t want … we came here for a reason; we came here for him.”

Longest tenered coach in the SEC. 5TH best winning percentage among active coaches. 2 SEC championships in 10 years- AL-2 AU-2 LSU-2 UF-2. We have a head coach that loves where he’s at and wants to be here for a long time. He’s a proven winner, with a very long track record. Be careful what you ask for.

We are not a national joke because there are only a handful of locales (Texas, Pennsylvania, the Southeast, Michigan, and maybe Oregon, where the Earth stops spinning after a loss.
I am a rare one on the West Coast. No one gives a frick about college football here. I remember going to games in Palo Alto and there were fewer than 7,000 there. I’ve been to Berkeley and been one of about 6,000.
The sky is not falling. Searles underperformed and realizes he can squeeze out a few more years and a couple more million.
Why won’t somebody please take Bobo!

sounds like another Rat is abandoning the sinking ship. And you can have Crowells – there’s not a running back on GT’s team I’d trade for that overrated head case. Lattimore?? Not hardly, Crowell couldn’t carry Lattimores jock strap. And you can have Rome. TE – who cares, not even considered a skill position.

I want the UAB coach back. We did well in both running and passing the ball when he was here. Hasn’t did to well as a head coach at UAB. He might be willing to make a change. Richt had his best record while he was offensive line coach. At least he would talk to the media.

You people act like UGA is such a mess, but he’s goigng to Texas who just came off a losing season, & didn’t even make a bowl game. Both programs are good & have talent, but just bc UGA doesn’t look like it’s program is in great shape…doesn’t mean Texas isn’t in the same spot.
