Boykin, Glenn pass on NFL draft, will return for senior seasons

Cornerback Brandon Boykin and offensive guard Cordy Glenn, Georgia juniors who had been considering entering the NFL draft,  decided to remain with the Bulldogs for their senior seasons.

The official word came Wednesday night in an announcement from UGA, which said there was “not yet” word on whether junior outside linebacker Justin Houston will enter the draft.

The return of Boykin and Glenn is welcomed news for the Bulldogs, though. The two players have a combined 58 games of starting experience over the past three seasons.

“This is exciting news for Georgia and for Brandon and Cordy,” coach Mark Richt said in a statement. “I think they have both made wise decisions for the right reasons and will be important senior leaders for us this coming year. We’re recruiting 24/7 right now, but these two are a big part of our ‘recruiting class.’”

Boykin and Glenn were among the Georgia players who last month asked the NFL underclassmen advisory board for a projection of their draft stock.

Boykin, from Fayetteville, has played in 39 games, starting 24, in his three seasons at Georgia. He ranks No. 1 in school history in career kickoff return yards with 1,813, including an SEC-record three 100-yard kickoff returns.

Glenn, from Riverdale, has started 34 games for Georgia, including 32 in a row. He is the second Georgia offensive linemen to elect to stay in school after considering the 2011 draft; tackle Trinton Sturdivant last week announced his decision to return for his senior season.

In statements released by UGA, Boykin and Glenn cited their reasons for returning.

“After meeting with my family and coaches, I was able to put a lot of things into perspective,” Boykin said. “First of all, I want to be part of getting Georgia back into the championship hunt. Coming back will also give me a chance to get my degree before entering the draft, and another year of experience will only make me a better player as well.”

Said Glenn: “I want to come back for several reasons, including helping our team get back on track to where we want to be. Coming back will also give me a chance to improve my draft stock and get closer to my degree, which is important to me and my family.”

The NFL’s deadline for eligible underclassmen to enter the draft is Saturday. Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green, a projected top-five pick, earlier announced that he will forgo his senior season to enter the draft.

Saw an earlier poster had said UGA was an average team with a below average coaching staff. Someone responded negatively and said “get off our board and go back to the waffle house”., Guess I will have to join him for breakfast because a 6-7 season with a lot of 4 and 5 star players sound like an average team with poor coaching.

With these 2 studs coming back, GA will have the best D in the SEC. Look for Grantham’s D to shut down florida, which has nothing coming back and Ga to win the SEC east. Ga wins 10, plays lsu for the SEC title—mark it down!

Well I think all of them should come back and finish the drill. Including AJ Green! They play as a team and they sucked as a team this year.. Poor CMR is getting the blame when his players lack passion and discipline on and off the field.. Think of it this way.. Would you blame a Corvette for getting u a ticket?? same principle here.A true dawg fan will understand this! Players do make a Coach look bad..same as they make him look good.. I support you Mark.. Go Get”em and love to see u prove’em wrong.. AJ.. you owe us 4 games Dawgggg.

To be honest it really doesn’t make a lot of difference. We will still have the same coaches, plays, etc. as we did last season. They are good players but not GREAT!!! Neither of them make a real big difference in us winning football games. Again-same stuff-different upcoming season-same results!!!! OR might I say it like this SSDD.
