Georgia inside linebacker Marcus Dowtin has played his final game for the Bulldogs.
Dowtin, a junior from Upper Marlboro, Md., has been granted an unconditional release from his scholarship to transfer to another school, UGA said Tuesday without further comment.
Reports surfaced last week that Dowtin had faced a second-degree assault charge stemming from a Maryland bar fight last May. The case was resolved in December, but Georgia coach Mark Richt did not learn of the incident until last week. (See this AJC story for more details on the case.)
Dowtin, who appeared in 11 games and started two this past season, didn’t play in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 31 because of what was described a coach’s decision unrelated to the Maryland matter. He was fourth on the Georgia team in tackles for the season with 57.

I’m sure he’ll transfer to Auburn — sounds like he’ll fit in good there. Auburn is a dirty program and their antics during the championship game are a disgrace to college football.

I agree with TW Chizik national championshipin two years. We are at the level of Vandy, Ole Miss and KY. Richt refuses to fire his stupid no talent OC the OL sucks the DL sucks all we have are a bunch of incompitants runnig the GA program. I will say it right, now there will be little improvement next year.

Richt is not going anywhere and the REAL dog fans outside of the AJC blogs, support him. Look on the Ledger-Enquirer UGA blog and the other blogs in the state. When this all settles and everyone stops dreaming of another Saban who is not available, they will realize ALL coaches and programs go through ups and downs and it is not just because all of a sudden the coach forgot how to coach! This is Richt’s first time going through anything like this. This is his first head coaching job and will only be better because of it. Thank God none of you are in any position of authority and for the men who are in authority obviously not agreeing with you because Richt still has a job so like the A.D. said, get on the bandwagon or go root for another school because Richt is staying baby!

when UGA was on top and winning championships, it was these so called thugs that u people seem to want off the team that were on the field doing the dirty work. U name almost any player on the GA defenses that won championships and ill show u a so called thug. keep recruiting the guys from private schools that are apart of the good ole boy circuit and we will keep getting worse.

TW- your so full of stupidity, you need to change schools. I recall we ended up 2nd in the nation Stafford’s second year. An early loss to Carolina and we’re playing for title. What about the years before that with little Greene QB and overachieving players? Who coached them up?
It’s about getting football players and not stars .Real fans aren’t ( I ) people and work towards a goal as a team including fans. Saben lost three games? What about Spurrier, can he coach? What’s his record at SC? If you want to help the Dawgs say positive comments or shut up

The TRUTH is that this program is in decline. If you don’t admit it or just think that it is a normal decline that will correct itself on its own, then keep thinking that. But just understand that doing nothing will create the same results.
I appreciate the fact that Fran Tarkenton had the nads to speak up. Fran knows a whole lot more about football than any poster on this board – that’s for certain.
So, keep supporting CMR and we will keep seeing the same results. If those results make some of you happy then ok; I know our rivals (except maybe Yech) certainly hope that CMR stays at UGA. Why? Because their schedule just got easier with UGA in a downturn. CMR led UGA into this downturn and some of you think that he will right the ship. Frankly, the captain and owners of the RMS Titanic thought the same thing… that is until they were floating in the water! CMR’s press conference to placate the restless and to reassure fans that everything is ok reminds me of the band that played on the deck of the Titanic up to the very end. Yes, their music was lovely and it perhaps had a calming effect, but it didn’t stop the ship from sinking.

Why don’t y’all get off my dang tail ? I’ve been studying football real hard since the end of the season. If we don’t get better next year it has to be Bobo’s fault, ok guys? When I fire him I figure that’ll get me another 2 years before I have to blame somebody else for my coaching disability.

Reading comments on here shows the losers we are becoming. Complaing that other schools are sweeping things under the rug, the Gene Chizk has no morals….. What BS!
I am a Bulldog but my family is close to the Auburn program. Yes they do handle things in house, but they handle it. Kids know up front the consequences of messing up. And Gene Chizik is a great man.
As far as Fairley goes, I would take him on my team any day. He is the best player in the SEC. UGA tried chop blocking and holding and evey other thing in the book to stop them but couldn.t.
This Dowtin mess is another indication that program is out of control. Mark is out of touch and even a one year success next year is just a cover up of the overall condition of the program. There is no respect from the players to the coaches. There is no repsect of the red jersey and wanting to wear it, I really feel that we need to quit recruiting the stars and look into the hearts of the kids and find out who reallt wants to wear the Red and Black. There are way too many on this team that don;t reall y have it in their heart,

Good on CMR. He did the right thing with this kid. He will end up in a smaller division college most likely, because I do not think there will be a lot of SEC teams that want his attitude problem. It is a shame that a kid would throw it all away because he thinks he is special because he can play football.
As for the folks that critisize this move. You should never complain about CMR being too soft anymore. You can’t have it both ways. I would much sooner see a more disciplined team, than a bunch of spoiled kids that can’t act civilized representing UGA. Of course, there will still be a certain amount of jokers that get on these discussions and critisize UGA no matter what, and all I can say to you children, is grow up. If all you can do is come on another teams message board and start with your childish, moronic comment, you must really be in need of some type of ego boost. UGA is going to be just fine, if the coach gets that old fire back and the players respond favorably. If they do not want to play like they should, let them transfer as well. UGA has plenty of talent. It is up to the coaches to utilize it effectively and the players to put in the effort needed.

Fact: These kids would still be in the program if Richt had not let them get to that point. They have no respect for him. That will never change.

Really Snake Doc? Donnan’s boys? That’s laughable!!! He never brought in an RB the caliber of Knowshon, never a WR the caliber of Mohammed Massaquoi (much less AJ Green), and absolutely never had a QB the caliber of Matt Stafford. Richt has had two down seasons but Donnan’s last 3 years were 9-3, 8-4, and 8-4. Under Richt, the dawgs have had 6 10+ win seasons, an SEC Championship and finished in the top 5 twice. Sure, bring back Donnan so we can keep winning the crap bowl. Snake Doc is trying to lecture us about “life” when he sounds like a 14 year old who got sent to his room.

This was a total over reaction by CMR!! By getting rid off dowtin takes some attention off of his losing season, he got rid of coach Martinez last year and that obviously was not the answer, its time for a change alright but with players!! Rather with the lack of leadership being demonstrated by the Head Coach on and off the field, its a shame that I have to endure atleast a half of season before the new AD finally fires him next year!!!! Winning changes alot!!

It is much easier to just keep your stupid nose clean then you don’t have to explain anything to anyone,,,, duh,,, How far did some of you folks get in school? Excuses just dont cut it. Leadership by example does! Some folks amaze me at all the excuses you try to make for these Saturday afternoon little angels. This goes for all conferences!!! Even the DAWGS.

FlaDawg, So Donnan’s players overall were not as talented.. I’ll give you that. Which brings up this point: Richt won more with those 3-star players than he has with his own 5-star players.
