Georgia inside linebacker Marcus Dowtin has played his final game for the Bulldogs.
Dowtin, a junior from Upper Marlboro, Md., has been granted an unconditional release from his scholarship to transfer to another school, UGA said Tuesday without further comment.
Reports surfaced last week that Dowtin had faced a second-degree assault charge stemming from a Maryland bar fight last May. The case was resolved in December, but Georgia coach Mark Richt did not learn of the incident until last week. (See this AJC story for more details on the case.)
Dowtin, who appeared in 11 games and started two this past season, didn’t play in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 31 because of what was described a coach’s decision unrelated to the Maryland matter. He was fourth on the Georgia team in tackles for the season with 57.

“I think UGA should just go the SMU route….give itself the death penalty….and come back in 2013 with all Freshman team.”
Amen to that. And come back with a new coach who doesn’t recruit the illiterate thugs and goons that Richt does.

I forgot UGA had the # 1 defense this year…get real people….Dowtin was a decent player, but there are more just like waiting…I am all for getting some fresh new bodies on defense like Jarvis Jones and Samuels….I’m sick of watching the defense over last couple of years

This is second run in with TROUBLE while a Bulldog.

This linebacker is just another Rodney Garner recruiting success story.
Not only do we recruit thugs. We lose them due to transfer prior to their crimes helping us in our 2011 FULMER CUP championship defense.

Reading this stuff you delusional turds write here is very entertaining. Fairly plays like the dogs did the last several years. This year though, there were nothing but sissies on the field. A personal foul would have gotten that ass kicked. Y’all suck forever!!!!!

yes. . .it’s called Atlanta. In Tuscaloosa, Gainesville, Knoxville, etc, the issues are handled differently. Listen, I agree, throw them off the team. I am just tired of idiots who think these players are pulled straight from the Atlanta Penn. We need to run a tighter ship but kids will be kids.

I am confident he will transfer to Auburn and play immediately. His major will be Sociology and he will graduate with honors but none of his professors will ever see him in their class.

At least some schools remain honorable. Dowtin is granted his walking papers, AJ Green sits 4 games, Joker Phillips sits his starting QB for the bowl, Ohio State risks a losing season next year over that same crap AJ did, yet the current BCS Champs come from a corrupt institution. CMR may be treading rough water right now, but no one can ever say he embarrassed the Dawg Nation. PS: let’s start the clock and see how long before Auburn has to give the title back.

The player should have reported the incident to his position coach. Since we do not know how the incident was resolved it is useless to speculate about whether he would have been punished. Can we stop acting like we are surprised when this type of incident occurs? I do not care which team a player is on. These are young very physical men with enough testosterone to fuel a small city. If possible, I would rather see rehabilitation for players who commit smaller infractions and when possible minimize the media treatment. Not many of us would our children to receive this type of media coverage when they make a bad decision.

This happens to be Dowtin’s 2nd barfight during his time at UGA. Refer back to summer 2008 when he and Donovon Baldwin (a former player who subsequently got kicked off at the fight bc of a DUI) were involved in a barfight in an Athens’ bar. Dowtin was bust in the jar and required wiring and Baldwin got slashed in the neck with a bottle and almost died bc of the proximity of the wound to a major artery. Dowtin isn’t an angel at all. Just know, this latest bar fight isn’t his first or second violation while at UGA.

UGA 92, I’m afraid you’re right. Every time Auburn goes undefeated, they get caught doing something wrong. The Cam Newton sweepstakes scandal isn’t over yet. And after listening to the defensive MVP in his post game interview, there’s no way in hell someone that can’t speak English can be earning a degree at a major university. It was painful listening to him try to draw a cheer from the Auburn fans in the crowd because they were silent because they couldn’t understand a damn thing he was saying. Hilarious and painful at the same time.

Bottom Line: The Dawgs won’t miss him a BIT! The USC transfer and Richard Samuel are going to be a part of a good linebacking corp.
Am thinking next year it’s LSU’s turn to win the BCS championship & then it will be UGA’s turn when A. Murray is a junior.

No serious football school would still employ Richt.
Certainly not:
Auburn
Alabama
Florida
Ohio State
Michigan
Miami
Oklahoma
Texas
Nebraska
USC
Perhaps it’s because those schools have fans who know it’s not freakin’ rec league ball.
Any Dawg ‘fan’ without a brown bag on their head ain’t no Dawg fan anyway.
It’s over. The longer you apologist stay curled up in Richt’s lap, the farther away the BCS gets.

You know it saddens me to see many dawg fans not giving Coach Richt the benefit of the doubt no matter what he does…Had he let him stay on the team, we would have been keeping a thug to some of you…if he dismisses him as seems to be the case, its that why did he take so long or why is he doing it now..well the bottom line is was kept from the coaches and UGA..it didn’t happen locally so the athens police dept or AJC couldn’t be all over it…
@Jason13..good comments, and you are correct in showing that alot of this gets swept under the rug at other schools…to me the situation at Tenn is one of the worst i have seen in how that was handled…not picking on Tenn, but when an officer, off-duty or not lands in the hospital and its a known fact that your players were involved but the punishment or non-punishment seems absurd in my opinion..look at the Gators..and Mr. Rainey…still on the team…there are many examples of this…I watch the BCS last night and saw continued dirty play by certain players on Au..but hey unless its the dawgs, lets just look the other way…it appears that the dawgs are changing their approach to some of the disciplinary problems and i applaud that, maybe it should have been done sooner, but bottomline they are taking the steps to get the ship righted…the shame in some of these incidents and that these guys will turn around and sign with other schools and they wont blink an eye…See Ole Miss, LSU, Au, Tenn, USC,Fla, and others…and i will say this if we sign players that have gotten in trouble at other schools then i will have a problem with that at UGA also…

Alabama Football: Nobody Wants to Be in The Nick Saban Dog House
Though you’ll never find it on campus, Saban’s dog house is the most feared thing on campus.

10 Reasons Why Terrelle Pryor Was Smart to Return to Ohio State
Larry Burton (Syndicated Writer) Last week Kevin Norwood snagged a pass, dodged the defenders and somersaulted into the end zone. Bad move Kevin.
You just earned an all expense paid trip to Nick Saban’s dog house.
Did anybody see Kevin Norwood after that?
The old saying among coaches like Saban is simple. When you score, act like you’ve been there before.
Something tells me Kevin will remember that the next time he scores and simply tosses the ball to the ref and trots off the field. The question is, when will he be allowed to do that?
Eddie Lacy was having a wonderful first game, He was running hard, scoring and looking like the back of the future that most had predicted he would be, and then he fumbled at the goal line.
You didn’t see much of Eddie in the second game.
On Saban’s team, you protect the ball and you don’t showboat. Doing those things earns you a trip to the doghouse, and this one isn’t like the air conditioned one that the University of Georgia gives to UGA, the team mascot.
Chance Warmack has three penalties last week including a rare holding penalty. I wonder if he’ll have the same amount of playing time this week or what penalties he may have faced in practice this week.
Accountability is all part of Saban’s system, and the players all know it.
These are but minor infractions though.
Break a team rule or NCAA violation and the trip may be longer and much more severe. Some players like Prince Hall, who violated a team rule never really got out of the dog house and left the program.
There have been other such examples. Hall was a starter as a freshman but on Saban’s team it doesn’t matter if you’re a starter like Hall or an up and comer like Norwood, breaking the rules earns you a trip to the dog house no matter who you are.
Because this is a group of young men who have bought in to that program, such problems are now rare cases instead of the norm.
Team discipline problems that plague Florida and Georgia are all but non existent these days in Tuscaloosa.
One team member last year told me that they fear Saban’s punishment much more than anything the police would do to them.
To me, that sounds like Saban’s dog house has accomplished its purpose.

i have not noticed the helmet in the back thing but what i did notice is….
more than one dawg lineman or linebacker grab an opposing players foot and roll. this happens multiple times a game.
that they did the same thing josh nesbitt in fact and put him out of the game. way to go cheating dawgs.
sorry but this fan does not go along with putting out an opposing player via injury for one down let alone a game.
lets face it. espn being the fund raiser for the sec is not the only reason that the sec wins. the sec cheats and stretches the ncaa rules as much as possible. see saban an vince probation every 4.2 years dooley for instance. And…
they do not graduate their players.
they are nothing more than a bunch of gt basketball teams playing football. ie. semi pro developemental league for hs players who have no intention of ever graduating.
is it any wonder that the other leagues can not keep up with the lying cheating dirty playing win at all cost sec teams?

Please… Without even looking. Post are about doing what other schools do (hide it) like ‘Ohio State’ for instance. Or need to tighten up. (Georgia just dropped one of the best Wide Receivers in the Southeast due to his grades and off field issues) or it is shots from clowns from othe schools, where they ALL have their own problems.
CMR is cleaning it up. He gets one more year. Recruits coming in are ‘right now’ a pretty good group with ‘upside’ from the kids still out there.
It is what it is. Suck it up and let’s see what happens. If they win the SEC East and maybe the Conference next year, almost all of you will ‘love the guy’. If he makes it through this and starts winning at a high level again, he could be here 10-15 more years – another Vince Dooley with a BETTER record.
