ATHENS — Mark Richt officially turned the page to 2011 at his end-of-season news conference Wednesday morning.
“Just want to start out by saying I’m glad 2011 is here,” Richt said. “I’m excited about that. Last season certainly was not anywhere close to what we expected or what we expect here, and it was certainly well below the standard of what Georgia football is all about. I understand that as much as anybody. I’m not happy with the way things went, but I do think in the process of going through what we went through, we’ll be better for it in 2011.”
Despite the team’s 6-7 record this past season, Richt said he has “a greater sense of excitement than I’ve had in a long time,” partly because of changes implemented in conjunction with new athletic director Greg McGarity that Richt said will free him from some administrative duties to spend more time focusing on football in 2011.
“In some ways, I feel like a first-year head coach,” Richt said. “Usually when you come in as the first-year head coach, the administration is coming to you and saying, ‘Coach, what do you need? What do you need to win?’ You wouldn’t think going into your 11th year you’d have that kind of feeling, but that’s what’s going on.
“Instead of me being the new guy, Mr. McGarity is the new guy. And as he has come in, we have had many conversations about what we need to get done to make this program the very best in the United States of America. That revives me; that rejuvenates me; that excites me in a big way.
“We’ve got some things that have been put in place and are being put in place that are going to make us better. And quite frankly things are being put in place that are going to help free me up to [spend] more time doing the things I love the most, which is study the game of football and … be on the cutting edge.”
Richt said director of player development John Eason, a former wide receivers coach, and administrative assistant Dave Van Halanger, a former director of strength and conditioning, will handle certain duties that previously fell on the head coach. Eason serves as the football program’s academic liaison, and Van Halanger heads a new mentoring program for the players.
Also, Richt said, “there are a lot of little things that crop up along the way that sometimes don’t get solved [or] sometimes take too long to solve in my opinion, but now the relationship that I have with Mr. McGarity is helping us expedite some of those things. . . . I am just spending less time messing around with things that Greg will be able to take off my plate from an administrative point of view.”
Richt, though, did not express any intention to take over as the Bulldogs’ play-caller.
“I’m not saying I’m taking over as the [offensive] coordinator or anything like that,” Richt said. “Mike Bobo is the coordinator; Mike Bobo is the quarterback coach, and Coach [Stacy] Searels is the running game coordinator. And they have done a great job . . . so I have confidence in those guys.
“The point I’m making is, I’m going to have the ability to have the time it takes to truly study the game of football, the trends and what’s going on, so a higher percentage of my time is going to be able to be used for that, which is exciting to me.”
Overall, Richt spoke with a confident tone as McGarity and several of Georgia’s associate athletic directors watched and listened.
“We’re not looking to blow anything up,” Richt said. “In my opinion, we are very close. I mean, how many teams have what would be considered a down season one year and the next year they are right there?”
He also stressed the importance of the recruiting class Georgia will sign on Feb. 2.
“You’ve got to get a boost from your recruiting class, your freshman class,” Richt said. “I’ve never been on a championship team that didn’t have guys step up and make a difference.”

Really this is what CMR had to say at his presser?? This man has got to go. I didn’t know giving him LESS to do is the answer, I would have thought giving him MORE of a role in the play calling and the day to day on the field would have been the answer. So he is confident in his OC BoBo and Coach Searels?? He thinks they are doing a GREAT job??? Yeah, OC Bobo had a month to prepare for the UCF team that he couldnt manage a TD on. And yeah, the running game has been a real winner this year. Whatever. And he wants to give MORE responsiblilty to Eason and Van Halanger, two men that have been shifted into new assignments already dur to their failures to accomplish their primary tasks. Geez, this guy doesn’t get it. UGA will stink again next year and once again we will be asking the question “Does CMR deserve another year?” I say he has proved by his actions this year and by his words at this presser that he is not the man to carry this UGA team to the elite. So the answer once again is NO.

Searels more than any other staff memember is the reason this team stinks… I was really hoping that he would be dismissed and Bobo, who is a great QB coach, would be demoted at the very least… Garner needs to go too. I would have thought that Richt would have had some staff turnover to get some fresh blood in here… Instead he is irgnoring, yet again, what this program needs… He will be fired next year.

Well, this is not good. So why is he studying the game of football if not to have a bigger hand in play calling, etc. I’m pretty sure his last statements will be his demise. If he want to marry himself to Bobo and Searels, then there is no helping him. The offense over the last three seasons has been loaded with talent, yet completely underachieved. Who would have thought that Grantham’s D would overall outperform the offense this year?

I don’t think CMR is capable of reinventing himself to be the kind of leader necessary to get this ship righted. Very few can pull that type of transformation off. He is not wired that way.
Nevertheless, we all will see as the offseason starts and the clock starts ticking toward September.
First on the agenda- get those in state recruits !
Ssecond- NO arrests
These two things will tell us a lot about this “transformation” and how successful it will be.

I like CMR, I want him to stay at UGA and succeed. But dadgummit I dont think he gets it. Bobo and Searels did NOT do a great job this year. The offense lost as many of the games this year as the defense. The offense was a disaster in the bowl game even though they had a month to prepare. I dont want to hear “they did a great job” because they did’nt. I want to hear that Bobo and Searels are either gone or are working hard to fix the problem.

It really doesn’t matter how much talent we get in this coming year. The players are not being coached up. Few are reaching their potential. The amont of acolades we get for our good recruiting is not translating to wins on the field. The problem is not recruiting. It is coaching. It’s like Steve Spurrier once said…”All that talent goes to UGA and I don’t know what happens to it.”

We are so out of the top teams in the SEC and you give us this?
Without doing too much harm, all these possible recruits need to go somewhere else and then maybe the leadership at UGA will finally get it.
Folks we are the laughing stock of the league. The Vols had just as bad or worse offseason than us, changed coaches, barely hired a coach and finished with the same record as us. That should tell you something.

Now everyone wants Richt to call plays again?? I don’t understand that.

Three quick obsrvations:
1. How again will having fielded a mediocre team in 2010 make the Dawgs “better for it in 2011″?
2. Respectfully, Coach, you’re either on the “cutting edge,” or you’re not. Recent history supports the “not.”
3. If Bobo and Searles have indeed done a “great job,” then Georgia’s problems run far deeper than anyone could ever imagine.

In 08 and 09, we knew the UGA program was slipping. The talent was down going into 09 and of course into 2010. The ugly two year record proves that. At the same time, the rest of the SEC has gotten better. UGA in no way resembles a quality SEC team and that simply cannot stand.
One more year …………. and UGA can dig out of this mess. UGA is stuck with CMR and his mega $$ contract and they figure “give him one more shot, cause we have to pay him anyway”. This alone is why Richt is still at UGA. Period.
Here are the hard facts about UGA football at this precise moment:
O line is sub standard. D line is weak and very inferior to the hard chargers now in the SEC. Our linebakers are not very good. Samuels and Jarvis Jones may help. Running backs are lousy for many reasons ON AND OFF of the field. Get rid of them now. Get three really good uns with this class.
D backs and safeties are simply not football smart. Period.
UGA lacks toughness …………. both pysical and mental. NO edge. No swagger beyond the late out of bounds hits by our safeties.
QB is overrrated too. Lose those Batman gloves to redeem yourself. QB’s bowl performance was a carbon copy of the G Day game. He is too emotional to win big. See the Florida game and others like UCF. The die is cast.
Intangibles:
Dr. Adams looks at football unlike his counterparts in the SEC, except for Vandy and Florida. Both Vandy and FL are fine, fine academic schools, as UGA is but Florida still insists on a quality athletic program, unlike Vandy. UGA? I am unsure as to how Adams views SEC football lately. He might be waiting to guage the 2011 recruiting class to get a true handle on Richt’s appeal.
TIme will tell. He has been mum. Odd.

With all his free time and studying, I wish he would study up on the importance of special teams. UGA has the worst special teams in the SEC. I think Champ Bailey probably blocked the last place kick or punt. Watching Ark block that kick last night and Florida block one to score on against PSU really made me realize how bad our special teams are. Richt seems to think that defense and special teams are just something you have to survive in order to get to play your boring, unimagitive, tired offense.
Why do we have such a mobile qb and no plays, other than the qb draw that Bobo so loves, to exploit his ability. When is the last time we ran a QB option down in the redzone.
What a load of pure unadulterated crappola from a press conference. Basically, we are going to try to do somethings differently but no specifics. Gethimoutahere!

From the first game of the year with Louisiana Laughter we were unable to establish a running game. As a matter of fact, their dline spent most of the game blowing our guys back. My 5 year old wouldn’t have had a hole to run through. Searels is horrible! As for BooBoo? His play calling has no luster or creativity! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Most coaches have a complete sheet front and back loaded with plays. BooBoo could house all his creativity on the front of an index card! Why doesn’t Richt get it? Talent we have had, coaching we have not. I still am a fan of VanGorder! He was awesome in my opinion! Richt has to understand, business is business. If his coaching buds are that good of friends, they should be able to step down so their “bud” doesn’t get canned. Richt’s above words just ruined my day! Some of you may not be happy with he had to say (or didn’t say), but the bottom line is that he was and is still coming back in 2011 AND he has laid his head firmly upon the chop block. Oops, I meant chopping block. Another year similar to the past 2 and there will be a new coach this time next year. He has apparently decided these are the assistants he wants to go to war with this fall. May not make you happy, but so be it. No point replacing someone now. Besides, a high quality assistant would never willingly leave a job to walk into this situation. We’re likely stuck with what we have for better or worse. We’ll know soon enough if not taking enough time to “study the game of football” and a new commitment to strength and conditioning is what’s been missing.

I was a MADMAN out of NYC and ATL. Your best folks send in the $$$ business and need no sales management help beyond producing timely and complete shipments and sending their commmission checks on time. They do not need assistance and intense micro managing like CMR is getting right now. This is SPIN.
McGarity is the puppetier. He knows that he must provide everything that Richt needs to win big. What really can he do? HE NEEDS to fire some coaches, rather than moving the chairs around the deck of the Titanic. Joe T as S&C Coach was absolutely McGarity’s choice, period.
Other needed changes:
Hire a Recruiting Co Ordinator. His job soley will be to rebuild fences with high school coaches. Gardner is a failure as a recruiter lately. Fire him.
Hire a NFL caliber D line coach. TG knows who is available. Maybe David Pollack.
Hire a quality O coach …………… maybe Stinchcomb is avaliable.
Hire a quality O co ordinator from the NFL like Florida is doing. Geeeeeeeeez. Bobo will end up as a middle school coach in two more years.

Georgia has become a recruiting school moreso than a football playing school. Every year we hear how great the recruiting class is gonna be and how great it is on signing day and now here today he’s telling us again, recruiting is the paramount thing about Georgia Football. Wake up people, this guy is wasting time and money recruiting players that can’t play and his coaches can’t coach. So let’s just quit kdding ourselves and admit that Georgia is now a middle tier program in the SEC and it’s all under the leadership of Mark Richt. We’re here January after January for the last five years hearing this crap and it’s time for a change. I thought McGarity was the man to change it. Obviously he can’t see the forest for the trees and is either unwilling or incapable of seeing that Mark Richt cannot lead this program forward. He needs to be fired as well as of today. Wow.

No offensive changes — I suppose that means that after almost every incomplete 1st down pass, we will run between the tackles, leaving us with 3rd and 8 or 9. I suppose that means more idiotic playcalling, such as throwing 11-14 for 220 yards and 3 TDs against Tech in the 1st half on 14 passes, followed by throwing only 5 passes in the entire 2nd half and almost losing the game. (EVEN Coach Richt questioned that during his post-game interview on WSB). I suppose that means continuing to forfeit several drives per game because we insist on going away from what is working to force our mediocre running game on the opponent. I suppose that means driving 95 yards only to settle for a chip shot field goal against a Conference USA team. How about running Carlton Thomas and his 175 pound body up the middle just ONE more time!!?!
If our defense is not MUCH better, we won’t be able to overcome our sluggish playcalling (brilliant at times, predictable and filled with lunacy at others….). Do we have more than 4 running plays?? If you watch some of the other bowls, you’ll see teams with KILLER instincts on offense. We haven’t had that in years, if ever. And, for those who say “we scored plenty of points, over 30 in 7 straight games, blah blah”, we LOST 2 of those games. Scoring 30 isn’t enough if our defense gives up 31. The point is that our offense LEAVES POINTS on the field due to inconsistent playcalling. How could our Offensive Coordinator (if he’s a great one) NOT find some adjustment to make against the undersized defense of CENTRAL FLORIDA!?!?!
Bobo seems to be a good QB coach and recruiter. Let him do those things, and bring in a fresh offensive genius!!! GO DAWGS…!!!

Richt and his staff of bumbling idiots all need to be put on a slow boat to a Christian mission in Cambodia. I’d take a 3-headed coaching monster of Ray Goff, Jim Donnan, and that Ramsey clown right about now. Ok, maybe that’s a bit overboard, but either way, UGA football is headed nowhere but down the toilet if Richt and his merry band of morons stays in Athens. Here’s my proposition for all 2011 recruits – drop UGA! If no one signs with UGA this year, it will be a clear statement that no one wants to play for Richt. At that point, the university will have no choice but to make a change.

I want CMR to turn things around. However, my confidence level is at an all time low with him and just don’t see it happening.
I feel that we can have the #1 recruiting class(not saying we are, just an example) and I just don’t see a trip to the SEC CG in 2011. That’s were CMR needs to be to hold onto that job. Richt spending more time “studying the game of football” isn’t going to solve anything. More of the soft language we usually get from him. I’m glad he’s suddenly really excited about coaching, etc., but it might have been good to get that fire back in 2007 before this pathetic run started. Leaders don’t wait for other people to motivate them…and Richt has proven that he’s no leader.

Wow, I have not been one to crticize Coach Richt, but with this press release I am a really upset at his mindset and lack of tone. Bobo and Searles did an awful job this year. Is a great job scoring six point against Central Florida, losing to Colorado? Georgia didn’t win one meaningful game this year that they could be proud of, and he’s happy with the offense? I think he needs to use this “freed” up time, and make sure his players obey the law and stay out of freaking jail. Nothing sends a program into a tailspin more than legal issues, and that is exactly where Georgia football is headed. Why would a recruit want to come to Georgia right now? I would kill to play for Georgia, but I’m not so sure I wouldn’t take that pass to Alabama, Auburn, LSU, or even dang Florida right now. I want our coach to smell blood and show some emotion, cause that’s what the game is about, not lollipops and ice cream. I for one am watching my wallet this off season towards anything that is Georgia football, because I don’t want to throw my money in the toilet for a coach or program that settles for mediocrity and is happy with failure.
I sure hope we can pull Crowell, Rome, and Mitchell from Valdosta, because we are going to be hurting at receiver, and need a running back to take the place of King, and sparingly use Ealey. Just a total mess, and hope recruits come in with a heart, and not just a nose for the money.

I think the point made in this release is that CMR is putting it all in for next season. He’s basically saying I’m committing my full attention and efforts into coaching next season. captguitarman

11:27 am
It appears from this (for now, anyway) that the “Mike Shula moment” that turned Alabama’s program around has been postponed for another year at Georgia. The new recruits, as good as they might be, are all freshmen, and as should be obvious by now, they do not necessarily grow and progress in the Georgia program – as they seem to do at other schools. It is no surprise that a first year AD does not want to make the big changes and suffer the brain damage that is necessary when a school decides that the status quo in the athletic program is no longer acceptable. But, this may not be over yet. The “you’re doing a heck of a job, Brownie” statements about the coaches who are clearly not doing a heck of a job are certainly disconcerting and raise questions about whether the reality of the situation has been grasped yet by anyone in the program. It’s time to breathe some fire and life back into the program, but right now, the decision that must be made is on hold. It will just prolong the agony. Boise State arrives here to start the season in the Georgia Dome, and that sad event will set the tone for the rest of the season. Next year the AD will have no choice but to take action.

You can do a lot worse than a coach that stands behind his staff. Richt never even bashed Martinez – he let performance dictate that guy’s removal. Richt is a class act and I’m proud he’s UGA’s coach. Why don’t you redneck clowns call Petrino and get him to slime you into a BCS bowl next season? Get some perspective country bumpkins. Richt might have had one losing season, but he’s not a loser like RichRod and these other slimeballs. I’m behind Richt. When Crowell inks the dotted line, all you haters will get excited again and re-up your season tickets. The only things frustrating about being a UGA fan is how predictable the fan base is. I have been studying football for 40 years and here is what I know.
1.Physical teams win. Bama, fl and even USC are more physical than the Dawgs
2.Teams that make hustle plays win. I haven’t seen all 11 players play hard in over two years. Someone is always takeing a play off. That is why we can’t recover a fumble, intercept a tipped pass or make a block downfield when a back breaks a run.
3.Good teams win the games they are supposed to win and one game they aren’t expecting to win. We haven’t won a big game since the Sugar bowl in 07. Since the Bama game in 08, we are 20-15.
4.Run the damn ball!!!! This is UGA. We have had a great history of tailbacks and offensive linemen. We get 80 yards against UCF. We don’t go for fourth and inches on the two against UCF. This ties into my first point.
5. Teams reflect their coach. Mark Richt is a wonderful man and is a good coach. Football has to be played with emotion, confidence and yes a little swagger. We play with hoping and wishing and praying and thinking. I want to see a linebacker hit sombody like Spikes hit Moreno on the first play at fl in 08. I want to see a D-lineman ragdoll someone like Fairley did to us this year. I want to see nasty, not dirty, but nasty. Somebody start playing like they don’t care if their hair gets messed up.
Unfortunately for Richt, not only is the honeymoon over, but Richt and McGarrity are sitting in a lawyers office drawing up divorce papers. Only a 10 win season, SEC East championship and wins over USC and fl will save the marriage.
It’s time to get physical and nasty and run over people.

I agreed wholeheatedly with you until you started calling us rednecks. Typical Tech fan, calling people names instead of saying something that matters. I guess that’s all of the ammunition you have when you get it handed to you every year by your biggest rival. I know how it feels, see Jacksonville every year. I guess you’ll have to keep up the name calling, because Tech is a long ways away from being the program Georgia is. One Orange Bowl appearance doesn’t mean you have arrived.
I agree that Paul Johnson is an intimidating coach, and will release hell on a player that does wrong and doesn’t do right. I was at Georgia Southern when he was, and I love his mentality, and it speaks volumes for his success. Just stinks he can’t get any recruits to want to settle with a bunch of geeks and unatheltic dorks at Tech. See, I can play that game too. Try and win a few before you start talking the trash Techie. Oh, but Tech can’t even beat Georgia in basketball either. But there’s always next year.

Richt is not going anywhere no time soon so all you cry babies better start supporting him and be DAMN THRILLED you have him because I can tell you this, that the next coach would suck just like BEFORE Richt got there. Richt has a better record than Dooley. They wanted to fire Dooley after about as many years as Richt had been there but a few years later he won it all. You intolerant impatient gotta have everything now brats go dig a hole and hide or support one of the best coaches in the country with all you got. BOBO on the other hand needs to stick with the offense and not the play calling or be gone. The rest of you grow up and keep the faith…..

He is making changes while salvaging his staff.
He is going to call the plays. Regardless of what he is saying, he will now be calling the plays. This is what is needed and he is doing it.
Putting Papa Bear Van Halanger in charge of the mentoring program is another great move. He now has bad a$$ Coach T in charge of S&C and bada$$ Grantham in charge of the defense. Richt is now back in charge of the offense.
Make no mistake, Mark Richt is back to being Coach Richt because he knows that he has to.
Call me a fool if you want to, but I’m pleased. I wanted him fired after the bowl game but now if he is truly going back to coaching, I’m happy and willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

How about win more games than you have players arrested, maybe no arrest. Get players that have heart to play for UGA instead of how many stars they have by there name.. Discipline would also be great for this team and teach the fundamentals of blocking, tackling, cover, 100% effort on every down instead of constant let down. Grantham, give him time to get the wright players for the scheme. Bo Bo has had his chance needs to go or (Qb coach). Coach Richt, beat Fl, win 10 games or so, go to a BCS bowl next season to save your job. The O-Line was the biggest let down for me this season. UGA football is in a state shame. 4th and inches in a Bowl game, Field Goal, Really!!! GREAT TEAMS SCORE TOUCHDOWNS! Moving personnel within the program makes it look like your doing something, but your not. What a sad year, all these so called top recruiting classes and it cant get put on the field.. With a speech like that, I guess we can expect the same lack of coaching again next year. Bobo should be gone. I thought that the OC handled the entire offense, not just the passing game. Why is Searles in charge of the running game. He needs to focus on the OL and the lack of blocking we have seen over the last two years. Ralph Friedgen would have been a great pickup at the OC slot, but of course we will continue to live with a peewee football OC. This is a joke and Richt will get himself fired before the end of next season. I don’t want to hear any excuses when they lose about not being properly prepared for the game. If the team is not prepared it is Richt’s faught. The excuses have gotten old and personally I’, tired of losing.

I think some of these fans are suffering from amnesia. Mr.Richt is a terrible playcaller and I believe that’s why he turned the duties over to his qbc(Bobo).
What make anyone think letting Mr.Richt go will hurt the program? I’m 100% sure that if they hire the right coach that team will be better off without Mr.Richt. I want Todd Grantham to replace Mr.Richt because the man knows how to motivate and he has improve the defense immensely from a year ago.

All you thUGA fans need to be honest with yourself. thUGA has beaten Tech, but all games under CPJ (1-2 against thUGA) have been 1 score games and very close. I have attended all 3 and you didn’t kick anybody’s ass. You won close ball games by making a good play late in the game (just like Tech did 3 years ago to get that win). It’s a win for thUGA, not a beatdown. Get your facts straight.
The defintion of an ass kicking or beatdown is Florida vs thUGA the last 20 years. They have scored like 200 more points than thUGA over that period. The vega$ odds makers have had Florida a double digit favorite 18 out of 20 years. That is the definition of being OWNED!

Coach Bobo and Searles have done an awesome job and I you have great confidence in them =’s 4th and inches, meaningless bowl game, not ranked in the top 40 in the country and you kick a field goal.
Coach Richt you truly do not get it (in my view you never have and never will, you should have never been hired but Dooley did not call me), you need to go and you need to go today.
Mr. Mcgarity by allowing Coach Richt to stay in my view means you are ok with being mediocre so here is what I offer you.
I can coach as bad as Richt has for the last 3 years and will do it for 10 % of his yearly salary thus freeing up money to be spent on posting bail for the THUGA players, and to make more plaques when you have premature-typealations for victories in games you were never in once the kickoff took place. FIRE RICHT NOW and hire me, at least i can act like I care on the sidelines while being out coached and out played on the field. WWJD What Would Jim Donnan do lol.

First of all, I like Ray Goff — he did a lot for UGA as a QB — he recruited great — he was just not a great HC. So I’m not being critical of him except that Richt is starting to sound a lot like him: “We’ve got to work harder.” Instead, Richt is saying: “We are going to get better.” Not much difference and he will be terminated next year because he will fail. What do you expect McGarity to say: We are going to get rid of him. Let us have a great recruiting class this year and then fire Richt next year — we know that he nor his assistants can no longer coach players up.

It looks like this will free him up to do that. I think UGA has the athletes and coaching staff to be very competitive in 2011 with these minor tweaks. You don’t have to blow up everything just tweak it. Maybe what McGarity is putting in place is the same model that was used at UF that got them 2 National Titles in 6 years. Give it chance.

As a SEC fan I like all Teams from our conference do well, put 10 teams in bowl games, capture 2 spots in the BCS bowls and win BCS titles as we have done for the past 4 or so years. But folks this current staff at UGA has to rank right up there as one of the most inept core group of coaches ever assembled.
It is said a great coach hire good assistants, instructs them on how he wants to run his program and lets the assistants coach the players, as he coaches the coaches. Surrounding yourself with good coaches is what has to be done. The problem at UGA is the Head Coach himself has no drive, motivation, is not focused, and football is no longer his priority. Or it seems those are in place( as I personally do not know-just observations) and he has not surrounded himself with WINNERS.
UGA had a schedule that would have gotten them at least 8 wins up until Boise St. was added, now after an early early season loss it will snowball into more losses as confidence in young players will carry you to additonal wins, early losses will start finger pointing and blame among youngsters.
Hoping it gets turned around but the situation is tenable at best.

What will CMR have to say when this recruiting class he is touting goes elsewhere? Why does anyone think Muschamp is going to be this great Head Coach? How many GREAT assistant coaches have taken Head Coaching jobs and fell flat on their faces? A Ton. The talent alone in Florida is good for 7 wins each year, 8 wins with an average schedule and 9 plus wins with a soft schedule and games against your best opponents at home.
There are no guarantees in College Football except at some point your best players run out of eligibility, go pro, flunk out, or get into trouble.
Muschamp has not proven anything yet as a Head Coach.
If UGA had been smart, they would have kept Grantham, fired Richt and brought in a coach who slings the ball around, spreads the field and will kick players off the team immediately if arrested and charged with a felony.

Lord help us because from what I just read above CMR definitely is no longer the answer to GA’s football problems. He is the problem! IN PAST TWO YEARS GA HAS LOST 12 games. To say his OC and OL and running game coord coach have done good jobs is to say the fan base and most of the media are idiots in demanding change from non productive staff positions. How McGarity can sit there and listen to this bull tells me he’s part of the problem too. Forget about getting the best players to come to GA after hearing the same trash. Wouldn’t be surprised to see some recruits decommit.
“study the game of football and … be on the cutting edge.” means what ??? If it means ditching the current playbook and watching TV and copying the plays other successful teams run its too little too late.
Sorry, but to most of us folks and the college FB media its going to take more than an excited CMR to return GA to the SEC elite.

The only thing that CMR has ‘EARNED THE RIGHT’ to do is put a quality team (product) on the field, make tough decisions (like firing friends that are DC and OC’s that aren’t producing), and answer to his stockholders (the fanbase and alumnae that donate millions of dollars). For the $3+ million he gets per year, that’s the least he can do. In corporate America, he would have been fired long ago. Mediocrity is mediocrity, no matter what level you’re at. CMR has lost his mind and NO RECRUIT is going to waste 3 or 4 years of his life playing for a man or team without any leadership, direction, or chance of competing for any kind of championship. UGA football has quickly spiraled to Ole Miss and Kentucky levels. Another 6 win season is just around the corner. What will his excuse be next year- we’re getting closer?. What a joke our football program has become.

S&C: Will be stonger, but we may not be able to control or to set the point of attack. Also, never a word about improvements in footwork, speed [I'm sorry he did mention that...good deal, about time], running full bore on all plays both sides of the line, shuttle speed improvement, blocking technique, and etc. They will be better in S&G, but are we assured we can play our offense and win. If you are 0-2 next fall, we will know forever more.
Nutrionist: No more cupcakes. Hopefully this person is set for press conference and contract signing. I will be very excited if it is Crowell’s mother. I know she knows what a real RB needs to eat because no one at UGA has no idea.
Administrative: I’d be very excited if they had hired a DA. He might understand the ramifications and evidence of violating the law.

Since you’re gone, we as FSU fans want you to stay there because you provide no threat to the recruits considering FSU. In fact, you help out tremendously in making FSU recruiting classes better. I love reading some of these comments. Some are good, but most are way off base and by people who have never been paid to coach football at the high school, college, and professional level (certaintly have the right to give opinion). I can understand the disappointment and frustration. Georgia fans, like most in the SEC are great, loyal, and passionate fans. To be honest there are things that Richt needs to address. He needs to look at the off, def, special teams, s and c, and recruiting. Also, he needs to look at off the field issues. However, every coach at the HS, College, and Pro level does that. Honestly, I think with that he has done a good job. I think he has tried to be fair and balanced. I will leave that topic for another time. Lets face it, if you stay at one place long enough you have peaks and valleys. Richt was and IS a great coach. He is very capable of winning the SEC again and a shot at the national championship. To end this, Richt is not ga problem, coaching is not ga problem. Again, not saying it cant be improved. If I had to point out a weakness that has hurt GA and has been address, is it needed to improve the S AND C program. If the program is implemented correctly, you should see a different team for the better, on the field next season. If you do not coach as a profession, it sometimes can be hard to understand. NOT saying you cant have an opinion and sometimes and maybe a lot, be right. IF anybody questions RICHT as a qualified coach to lead a top SEC and National program, is clueless. Also, I am not saying someone could not be hired and do a better job.

What Mark Richt should have said:
Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for coming today. We have a great tradition at the University of Georgia, we have done some great things during my time here in Athens. We have not one the National Championships as we had hoped to win. We have brought home a few SEC banners and we are proud of those.
I have let the program down in recent years. The arrest of players, and personal issues of our players has forced me to spend to much time dealing with off the field issues than we wanted which has taken time away from game planning and building the program. I never have stated that I was a miracle worker, but even by my own standards I have done a poor job of evaluating prospects based upon character. After suffering through 3 seasons of poor play, poor coaching, off the field issues, replacing coaches and friends, I have decided to leave the position as Head Football Coach at the University of Georgia. I feel it is time to allow someone else to take over and bring some new life, blood and someone who may can turn this roller coaster program around.
Thanks for all the memories and Go Dawgs!

We want to win–We want to be feared, We want to own other teams Like Florida owns us—or We Own Tech–we want to be a superpower of College football–not a pretty good team with a really special player –Green, Moreno, Stafford–and I believe Murray can be.
We need someone to take these players and make a cohesive group that can put together a sustained running drive.
And by the way, I am a adog with Papers in 1988 and played 7 years of middle, and high school ball. I am in no way an “armchair” coach—I can however, smell a team that is lackadaisical in nature, and lacks the cohesiveness to run the ball consistently.

Nothing good is happening there, you have double digit arrests every year, coaches threatening to choke opposing players, red panties, and bush league tactics. If they are smart and attend a school like Florida, Auburn, Tenn, or Bama they will learn character and enjoy winning on the football field, two things you will never see at georgia. So, does this mean we will be confused and inept the next time we run up against a Conference USA defense?? Does this mean we will continue to run up the middle on 2nd and 10 after almost every incomplete 1st down pass? Does this mean that we will continue to shut down our own offense before the defense actually stops it (Ga Tech game 220 yds, 3 TDs passing in 1st half, only 5 passes thrown in entire 2nd half)? Does this mean that the only way we will shock everyone with a TD bomb to Israel Troupe vs. Auburn is for our OC NOT to know that AJ Green had been knocked out of the game on the prior play!?! (Yes, Bobo admitted in 2009 that he was unaware the pass was to go to Troupe because AJ had just gotten hurt).
Does this mean more failed draw plays and screen passes on 1st and 20 against a Conference USA team? Does this mean having good fullbacks who almost never carry the ball, while Carlton Thomas gets to ram his 175 pound body in there for a 1 yard gain….? Does this mean a talent like Orson Charles averaging only 2 touches per game? Does this mean having Aaron Murray drop back against Arkansas late in the game, on 3rd and 4, with NOBODY to throw to for a high percentage conversion, because everyone is way downfield (leading to a sack, punt and loss)? I guess so…..
Bobo seems to be a very good QB coach and recruiter, but can anyone say he’s one of the nation’s Top 10 Offensive Coordinators…???!?!? Really??? (Not a Bobo issue, but I’m not even going to discuss our offensive line that has underperformed for the past 3 years.) ….Regardless, GO DAWGS..!!!

UGA is one of the most profitable programs in the country. Its because the head coaches of every team has to answer their own calls, sit at their desk from 8-5, and make out schedules. At big programs like FSU, there are secretaries that handle those kind of tasks. UGA prides themself on their profitability when all it would take is to hire a $30k secretary and then Richt could go and recruit and learn the game of football.

I can just see Richt now…sitting down at one end of the church pew on Sunday morning, Bobo and his FIVE kids down on the other, all cute, sitting there, such a nice family…and Richt in DEEP prayer with his eyes closed the entire time,, trying to figure out how he is gonna can the guy (or asking forgiveness before he does) without starving out five little kids. I guess he figures he will just take a firing himself before he does that…cause the divine guidance seems to have not told him to save thyself! (or thy team)
Wonder if there is a little devil Mark Richt on one shoulder yelling “DO IT!, JUUUUST DO IT!” and a little angel Mark Richt on the other soothingly reassuring him he is doing the right thing by allowing The Bobo Bunch to stay and not be in foreclosure with the rest of the jobless????

One of the things that has really bothered me over the last few years in regards to CMR is how reactive he is vs. proactive.
The great coaches think and prepare and implement things before they become a problem. That’s ON & OFF the field.
CMR is always saying something to the effect “we are going to stress that this week… ” or “we are going to ramp up tackling in practice because of our poor performance…” or “it’s our strength & conditioning..” or now “The point I’m making is, I’m going to have the ability to have the time it takes to truly study the game of football, the trends and what’s going on, so a higher percentage of my time is going to be able to be used for that, which is exciting to me.”
By the time CMR says these things, they are already a problem and should have already been addressed and corrected.
Teams don’t turn things around with “Reactive” coaches. Once they begin to go downhill… they continue.
And there have been way to examples of how CMR is reactive vs. proactive.
The great coaches foresee obstacles before they are a problem. Not after.

2008 – “I’m really fired up and excited about this year. Preseason Number 1, we have Matthew and Knowshon back. Our O-Line is seasoned. It’s going to be an exiting year.”

2010 – I think we are in a position to surprise some people this year. AJ Green is set to have a really special year. Our O-Line is one of the strongest in the league. Caleb ancors a strong running game. We should be a good, solid football team this year. I am excited about our possibilities.”
2011 – I am sooo excited about the prospects in front of us. I am able to get back to studying the game of football. Bobo and Stacy are going to stay in place. I do’nt want to confuse anybody and blow thing up. We are right there.”

Not sure why everyone is so down on this. It’s all crap anyway. The real question next year is will Strength and Conditioning improve. Look at Arian Foster – guy was on the practice squad and only made the team because of injury. Over the offseason he works out consistently and this year he led the league in rushing yards from scrimmage. If, and it’s a big IF, S&C improves Georgia’s record will improve.

Thats like working for a company for 10 years and finding out your about to be layed-off and you tell your manager”im going to start studying about whats going on and being more efficient and up to date. I think most people would know what the result of that conversation would be. any way studying is not the answer. CMR you know what to do. Sounds like you got one more year. As a long-time Georgia supporter and as one who has stood in support of Coach Richt throughout the last two seasons when so many have serious reservations about supporting him, I understand that Coach Richt can and will not air the “dirty laundry” regarding the program current state in the media. I am glad to hear that he is going to be able to focus more on the job of coaching our football team and that he continues to be excited, or in his words “rejuvenated” reagrding his leadership of our program. As a 30+ year high school coach, I understand that there will be cycles of ups and downs in all programs from high school to college to the pros. Any educated sports enthusiast can readily verify or already knows that without any doubt. It does not make it any easier for us a die-hard Georgia fans … we very often fall into the category of the “what have you done for us lately” syndrome. Now, we should always have high expectations because that is the only way that we are going to be able to continually strive for the highest possible success; however, we must also always temper that with a good dose of reality. All that being said, I sat in Memphis and watched with shear disgust the total lack of enthusiasm and intensity displayed by our football team and our coaches. I can handle losing as long as we play with our highest intensity and desire and we get beat by a better team or a team that has a great day on the field. Such was not the case last Friday afternoon. To me, the game, beyond the lack of overall effort, just exposed some serious problems that Coach Richt must address: (1) despite the fact that we had 7 straight games when we scored 30+ points this season, (a) we are much to predictable on offense with very little imagination and diversity and that has been the case since Mike Bobo has started calling the offense; (b) our offensive line has vastly underachieved under Stacy Searels and can not consistently block any opponents in the run game nor protect the QB in the pass game; (c) our running backs are very average at best and this has further exposed our lack of ability to block up front (our running game’s success with a back like Moreno was a mirage that we were opening huge holes to run in); (d) our passing game is not diverse enough in routes and reads to take advantage of the variety of coverages and schemes we see by opposing defenses. I like Bobo as a quaterback coach but not as a play-caller; I feel that we need to find a much better offensive line coach; we need to recruit or use (i.e. Ken Malcolm) much better backs as well as better offensive linemen … like we see at other top level SEC schools. Defensively, I felt we made some very positive strides under Grantham this year, although I felt we did not really attack people as much as I had anticipated that we would outof the 3-4 scheme. Our defense was left on the field way too long in many of our games … we must do a better job of time of possession and scoring efficiency (TDs, not FGs). In a nutshell, when Richt was calling plays, we were much more diverse on offense and much more successful and that helped our defense and kept opposing defenses off balance. I am not suggesting that Richt necessarily go back to calling plays although I would not be opposed to that scenario; however, we muct drastically overhaul our offensive staff and philosophy in order to get back to the top once again. I hope that Coach Richt is willing to make the tough decisions that need to be made in order to get us back to the top of the SEC and, conversely,, the national college football world.

Disapointing, but it is what it is.
For what it’s worth, here’s what I think he should have done:
1. I think Bobo has value as a QB coach, and if he’s worried about hurting his feelings, give him a fluff title. Asst. Head Coach/QB Coach
2. Hire Ralph Friedgen to be OC. We all know first hand he’s a great OC and our offense would definitely score points, plus he has a house at Lake Oconee so it would be easy for him to jump right in.
3. Fire R.Garner, his time has past, and I just don’t think the man does his homework on players. We have too many GOOD players that WANT to be Dawgs that don’t even get a look and wind up coming back to haunt us somewhere down the road.
4. CMR -make the right “buddy” hire and call Randy Shannon and make him your Recruiting coordinator. He’s not much of an x’s and o’s guy, but that guy can flat out recruit and he has a STRONG pipline to all that s.fl talent, and while having to recruit in a big city area like Miami he knows how to relate to and reach the Atlanta area talent.
As someone else noted the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting new results.
I’m curious what people would think if Richt made the above moves.

Why do I feel like I’m being offered a great deal on some marsh land in Florida? I’m not buying it – Richt hasn’t been the same since he gave up the play calling duties & his subborness is gonna cost him again.
Play calling like driving the 90 plus yards against a Conference USA team & running the ball for a short gain on 3rd down & then rather than following through on a commitment to make an effort to score, settling for a field goal & set the stage for an offensive juggernaut (very offensive to watch I might say).
Play calling like 2nd down & 23 & running off tackle. Followed by 3rd down & 20 & attempting a screen pass which for some reason neither Richt nor Bobo have figured out that Murray & this offensive line are pathetic at selling & implementing successfully (this was the case the ENTIRE year).
January has become repleat with empty promises – seems I remember assurances that the off-field problems were going to end last January.
That house & great deal are sinking in the marsh much like the hopes for things turning around at UGA under this regime.

Glad you NOW get to study football after all these years..

We were a better offensive team when Coach Richt called the plays and coached the QB’s. We were unpredictable to the other team. QB’s did more fakes and protected the ball. Now, every person watching a game, doesn’t even have to have seen any game films, knows what we are doing. 1st down – Pass, incomplete, 2nd down – run, gain 3 yds., 3rd down – pass, gain 4 yrds., 4th down – punt. We’ve done it for 3 years and after watching the Liberty Bowl, I see no change whatsoever in that mentality. No guts either. drive 96 yards and settle for a FG????????????? COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been one of the biggest CMR defenders around, but after reading this article, my stomach sank. I understand loyalty, and not causing turmoil before signing day, but come on. Bobo and Searels did not do a great job this year. Our O-line was supposed to be the envy of the nation, but it was woeful. I cannot count the number of times Bobo killed game momentum with terrible play calling. Everything would be going our way, then Bobo would call two off-tackle runs and a long pass. Three and out, and the momentum shifts. During the first quarter of several games, the ball was not thrown anywhere near AJ Green’s direction. Today’s comments from CMR do not inspire confidence. If he places personal loyalty over doing what’s needed, then perhaps it is time for him to go. And I hate to say that.

He’s going to give it a year so he looks like he gave Richt a chance. This time next year, we will be looking for a new HC. I like Richt and think he is a good man, but the job has clearly passed him by. UGA has slipped to Ole Miss and Kentucky status and that is unacceptable. Georgia does not have a sign of a running back for next year and will lose one or both of its most productive wide recievers. The culture of Georgia football needs to change. That is very hard to do in one season and without a coaching change.

If I were CMR I would have come out this morning and apologized for the poor recruiting over the past few seasons. I would have blamed myself and a lazy staff. Folks, we are so thin at every position it’s sick. I’m sure CMR is not going to allow us to scrimmage again this summer of fear of injury which will mean losses to Boise and USCe. Unless we get everybody we want in Feb and they come in ready to play in August I don’t see us winning 5 games next year. We just don’t have the numbers.

Me thinks this is a thinly veiled attempt to sway the alleged “Dream Team” into signing so they can play as Freshmen, and thus make it to the nfl that much faster. Richt can stay as long as he wants as far as I’m concerned. Football is cyclical. Georgia will be good again, whether next year or in a few years. Georgia finished 2nd in the Nation 3 years ago, while Alabama lost to Louisiana Monroe. Auburn has had several years of being mediocre and 4 straight losses to Georgia until this year. They will be down again- probably next year when Newton is gone. UGA, Florida, USC, Texas, Tennessee and many others were all pretty lousy this year. Some people need to get a life and a clue. We’ll be back, hopefully sooner than later, but the level of hostility and anger with all this is amazing, absurd and sad. It’s a freakin football game. Geez.

CMR can’t say anything that is going to make people happy. I actually think the team was improved this year and will be more improved next year. The key for Richt is whether or not it shows up in wins. The reality is that you coach long enough and you will have some down cycles. Despite the legend of Bear Bryant (and he deserves it) he had some lean years himself where people were saying he was too old and had lost touch and couldn’t get it done anymore. Same with every coach who coached at one place for an extended period of time. Personally, I think Richt can get it done. I hope so for two reasons –1)I like him and 2)I don’t want to have to go through a bad season and a transition and the crap shoot of a new coach. There are no guarantees.

I think the defense is the real key. If the defense continues to improve (I think they will) it will show up in the win column. CMR left too much goodwill on the table by holding on to Willie for too long but I think they’ll win 8-9 next year and maybe 10. The reality, despite, the suckwad season is that they were in every game this year. Just left too many on the table. There is a fine line between winning and losing. After the 1-4 start a lot of fans didn’t think they’d beat anyone but Idaho State.

With the new AD in place, Richt’s on the ball. I heard he’s convinced McGarity to build a holding cell in the Butts Mehre building when football players get arrested. That way, Richt doesn’t have to send one of his gofers to the Clarke County jail with bail money and even better, he can counsel the player while in the cell and get him out of lockup for practices with a special “monitoring device” in his uniform. That’s thinking smart, thinking possible!

It is not out of the norm for a new top man to come in and reshuffle resposibilities and tasks. If CMR feels like a burden has been taken off of him that will allow him to be more in tune with the latest trends and schemes then more power to him. Having said that – I have to question the over the top endorsement of Searles and Bobo – Searles was a very sought after line coach wheh he came to UGA – maybe there are issues with the players more than the coach. But Bobo? Too inconsistent and predictable……….there are way better OC mids out there that would love to coach at UGA….the Bobo situation smells a lot like the Martinez one. Cut him loose Mark before he pulls you down with him. He’ll have to find another way to support his burgeoning family. He is NOT an SEC or national caliber offensive mind – the offensive game of today has gone WAY PAST what Bobo can imagine. Hoping for a much better 2011 – Go Dawgs!

Really??? #*%#&* administrative crap cost us 7 games? Um, you don’t call plays on offense, you don’t call plays on defense, you don’t do anything on special teams, you obviously don’t monitor player behavior or strength and conditioning…what exactly was taking up all your time? Use some of your $3 million to hire a freakin’ secretary to handle the admin duties so you can coach!!!
Can somebody PLEASE give Mike Bobo some dice to help him choose plays less predictably?
How about one die yields: 1=Run/2=Run/3=Run/4=Short Pass/5=Mid Pass/6=Deep Pass
The other die yields: 1&2=Right/3&4=Left/5&6=Middle
It would be a lot better than this:
Play Action Pass on 1st down; run smallest running back up the middle for no gain or short loss on 2nd down; on third and long call pass for less distance than required for first down.

Atleast have the smarts to come up with SOMETHING substantive that we can hang on to…not feelings and emotions…we need ACTION ITEMS, but first–identify to us what YOU think the problems are. CMR, you’re a fine man, but if you were in the private sector, you’d have been househunting several years back. Agree with most of the above comments.
Also, I am not reassured in the least. Two recent failures as coaches are going to handle duties and two others who had terrible years are given high praise?
I wanted to see Bobo at least demoted to QB coach with someone else calling the plays.
I felt he should address the obvious shortcomings and place those assistants on notice.
If “there were reasons that we played the way we did”, then for goodness sakes, please tell us what they were and how the hell you intend to fix them. Many of us send too damn much of our money to Athens to be left out of the conversation. I don’t think we should have a stockholders meeting and hear every petty problem…but we are talking about major issues. We should not be brushed off that he is going to have time to study football and that he feels rejuvenated. I want him to feel a sense of urgency, right now, and I want him to convey it to his coaches, players, and recruits.
As for Garner, we need to see with this recruiting class. We need elite athletes but ones that want to play for UGA and want to behave and get better. (Never been a Stanford fan, but was one the other night. Intelligent, well mannered, well spoken, disciplined kids who appear to really like each other and are all team players. No one trying to be the center of attention, but all giving credit to someone else, especially their coach. Kudos to Owen Marecic).
I have full confidence in Greg McGarity. I am glad he is offering his full support with time, money, and encouragement. What transpired in 2010 was unacceptable and was predictable from what happened the 3 years before (yes, in spite of Marcus Howard carrying the defense at the end of the season, 2007 wasn’t so spectacular early on…see the game in Knoxville. If our team had shown up that day, we would have won the National Championship).
If CMR has the answers and they have been implemented, why did we have our poorest showing in memory 12-31-2010? Again, I am also underwhelmed.
At the least he could have asked Tony Barnhart to write his remarks at the press conference and get a few acting lessons in showing a little passion.

Doesn’t matter who we play next year! Dawgs couldn’t beat an inferior Florida team, an inferior UCF team, an inferior Colorado team, ummm. notice the pattern? Georgia’s got an easy schedule next year, BUT, they did this year and a record of 6-7 was long from the pre season predictions!

The biggest change that CMR needs to make is to stop recruiting the low-class illiterates and thugs who he seems to think will win for him and keep his oversized paychecks coming in. People like Marcus Dowtin, A.J. Green, Washaun Ealey, Caleb King, and others too numerous to mention are not team players, they’re thug wannabes who are much closer to a gang than a team.
It’s sickening to see felons and goons like these representing the state’s flagship university.

I like the story about Dooley in 1974 turning the dawgs around after an embarrassing season. After losing to Miami(Ohio) in the bowl game that year Coach Dooley speech went like this in the locker room after the game:”Men, get ready. We are going to work until we play football like Georgia is supposed to play. Spring practice is going to be very tough. We are going to learn to block and tackle the way football is meant to be played. You’d better fasten your chin straps and get ready. I want you to know what is coming”. I don’t believe many actually understand the depth of ineptitude across the board at UGA football right now. It starts at the top and includes the entire staff and team. The the culture is totally zeroed out. This is a joke, right? Coach Richt, who has led UGA to its worse record in 14 years has admitted that he’s kind of forgotten to focus on football. Or maybe he’s just not an expert. But he’ll do better now. Has the Bulldog nation decided it doesn’t care about winning anymore? Why is anyone allowing the coach another chance? Admittedly, he’s a good man but where is our hope for a national championship, much less an SEC championship? It’s nowhere. But he’s a good man. Meanwhile, how embarassing was it to see the once mighty Bulldogs beated by UCF? The proud “G” hung on the heads of a bunch of dispirited, undisciplined players. While the Gators build a top flight coaching staff, we’re stuck with a tired old captain and a band of underperforming leutenants. I’m just sad….we just don’t care about winning anymore. How long with this really unfunny joke play out? It’s been going on too long already. If Coach Richt were a really good man, he would do the right thing and resign. That would be the honorable thing to do.

With all the experince in the OL they sucked. The Defense didn’t have a clue to what was going on. They can’t tackle and looked like a deer in the headlights. Already Will Muschamp is putting together a coaching staff that will run rings around the bunch that we have. “You’ve got to get a boost from your recruiting class, your freshman class” Richt said. ”
Moreno, Ken Malcome, are these the type freshmen your talking about coach who never saw the field until their 2nd year.
Will next season have a bench full of players with potential who you coaches are not going to play because they haven’t learned the system.
That’s the excuse each season when a player don’t see the field. ” Hasn’t learned the system yet”
Question for you Coach, What is our system?
After losing to Colorado, and now UCF. What is that system and what does it take to learn it.?
I’m all for keeping CMR but, BoBo hasn’t called a consistent game since his first which would be against VT in the Dome a few years ago, and the D is what won that game with Charles Johnson and Tony Taylor.
Maybe during all his new free time coach can work us up a winningsystem because the one we have now is not working, or someone’s not teaching it to the players.
Why redshirt some of these players like Malcome and Moreno and others when they do have an impact on the team they only stay 3 seasons?
Another thing. If Houston Mason don’t transfer whenever Lemay comes in next season It will be supprising.
Mason is too good to waste sitting on the bench.
Logan Grey has done it, D. J. did it, Joe cox and Joe T 3 did it.
Don’t see Mason doing such. Loyalty is one thing but in todays time playing means everything. If Crowell comes to UGA which is unlikely, will Malcome transfer??
Searals running game coordinator??????
Headlines!!!!! Don’t run 5-5 165 Carlton Thomas up the middle. It don’t work, never has never will. Just saying. Tried a dozen times this season and it failed each time.
Another thing bothers me is we’re a prostyle offense, which uses the tight end regularly.
We have become a very predictable team on offense, play action on 1st, run on 2nd and play action on 3rd. Shotgun on 3rd and long. No use of the tight end anymore except to block. They caught 2 TD’s this season. unnaccaptable for a prostyle offense.
Got to use the tight end to move the sticks, not a successful NFL team out there that don’t utilize the t-end position. And that is something we have an abundanced of at UGA.
ONE more Item,
Handing out plaques with a winning record should be done AFTER THE FACT!!!!!!!!!!Anyone know if the SugarBowl rings have hit e-bay yet!!!
Ohio St Coach. No class at all allowing those 5 players to play in the SugarBowl.
None at all.

I just read the article from Coach Richt’s press conference and I have to say there are a lot of unhappy UGA fans. Just take a minute and read some of the comments posted on the article on the AJC website. Here is the link to the article; http://blogs.ajc.com/uga-sports-blog/2011/01/05/what-mark-richt-had-to-say-at-todays-news-conference-2/?cp=14#comment-124904.
No answers were provided as to why the program has been allowed to slip to wear it is and there no reassurance that it is going to get fixed. I am a business man I believe in the “earn your way” in this world and I have to say that it appears to the UGA nation that Coach Richt is collecting a paycheck and nothing else. He doesn’t call the plays any longer and he has never called the defense, so what exactly is he doing for that $3M a year? I know you have a lot on your plate right now and you are still in the process of evaluating the program, but you have to see that there is a serious leadership problem going on in the program and it doesn’t appear to be getting any better. For him to say that Coach Bobo and Coach Searels are doing greats jobs is laughable. We have one of, if not the worst Offensive line in the SEC and all we heard about coming into the season is how this veteran line is going to dominate and the running game with prosper. Well as we all know from the lack of a running game that was not the case. I sat here in my living room during the bowl game and called every play that was ran on the series where the Dawgs were 2 and 23 and he hands the ball off to Thomas, the smallest back on the roster. Then the next play, 3rd and 20 and he calls a delayed screen that went no where. If I can see that from my living room and call the plays all the way from down here in Tampa, just imagine what the DC in the SEC are doing. Then the call to kick a FG on 4th and inches at the goal line summed up this coaching staff and the past 3 season on one play! Right now that is UGA Football! Playing scared and trying not to lose a game instead of playing with fire and pride and desire to win. That bowl game was a complete embarrassment to the Dawg nation. Its one thing to go and play the game and lose, but that game was on played on one side of the field and it wasn’t the UGA sideline!
We UGA fans are die hard fans as I am sure you are and we are not happy with the product being put on the field. In this economy going to a UGA football game is a luxury that many people can’t afford and after the last 3 seasons I hate to say it, but those that can afford to will not be doing it much longer. Why does the University expect us to purchase tickets and travel to away games when UGA can’t beat teams like Colorado, Miss State and UCF for Pete’s sake. The program has slipped so far that we are the laughing stock of the SEC. Other fans don’t laugh at Vandy and Kentucky and other teams because they are laughing at us. Its an embarrassment to the entire DAWG nation! Something needs to change and keeping it behind closed doors isn’t the answer. We deserve to know what is being done to correct the disaster that this program has now turned into. How much longer do we have to suffer through the continually declining seasons? I just left the Under Armor HS All Star game and I wore my UGA gear with pride, but I have to be honest with you, its getting harder and harder to wear it with pride when the players and coaches show no pride in the product they are putting on the field.
Again thank you for your time and I wish you the best of luck in this New Year! I hate to say it but you are going to need it! Go DAWGS!!

Good Lord Please Help this man, because he is surely out of his mind. All he had to say to get people off his back was, ” I was the worst coach in America this year and you have every right to expect more of me. If I can’t turn this thing around by next year I will turn in my resignation.

After reviewing the results of Mark Richt’s Wednesday news conference, one must ask the following questions:
1. Can Greg McGarity do anything to make the Bulldogs’ performance on the field better next year, other than change the coaching staff? Yes ____ No____.
2. Did Mike Bobo and Stacy Searels do a “great job” this season? Yes___ No___.
3. After a decade as a head coach in the SEC, will coach Richt make the program better next season by “studying the game of football”? Yes___ No___.
4. The Bulldogs are “very close” and therefore don’t need to “blow up” anything. Yes___ No___.
5. Will the Bulldogs still get needed 4 and 5 star recruits after the collapse of the last 3 years? Yes___ No___.
All followers of Georgia football know the obvious answers to these 5 questions and know what needs to be done. If the fans know, why doesn’t the administration know?

It is almost criminal what has been done to our program. I feel there is a storm coming. after boise State kick’s our butt, the best of supporters are going to stay away in droves. Boise State is now a program that is conifdent, plays sound football and knows how to win. And are not afraid to run the score up on you. And UGA is a program in denial, that says there coaches are doing a good job when they are losing. WE did not hire CMR to try to win the east every year, we hired him to shoot much higher and win the National Championship. IO love the dawgs and always will, but I will not support incompetent leadership.

Here is one of CMR’s changes to make us a better team: Quote,
Richt also announced that he will be relinquishing more of his administrative duties to Director of Player Development head John Eason and to Dave Van Halanger, who was recently replaced as the Bulldogs’ strength and conditioning coach.
what a joke, if this was a problem why didn’t he make this adjustment last year or the year before.
I bet Richt doesn’t do half of all the things Saban is responsible for. This is not the first time CMR has used this excuse. He knows the ship is going down but he will stay loyal to his cronies, He knows this is his last year, I can only hope that he will do the right thing and step down in a respectful way, before 2011 exposes him and his hollow promises.

CMR will be with us for another few years. The buy out and rehire is too big for UGA to deal with right now. UGA might want to look at lost revenue over the next two years. They will be able to see a downward trend at that point. People do not want to feel like they are wasting money. You can support other sports teams and see a lot more effort. The players laughing on the side lines at the bowl game was enough for me. It looked like the Quincy days. I am being over run on the field by a small school. I am still going to have fun. When does pride come into play. As long as CMR is there the answer is never. See if Miami will take him in any role.

Everyone that is and is not a UGA fan realizes that the Dawgs have had a couple of down years….and the first losing season in 14….
Everyone needs to remember this….after the 1976 Sugar Bowl season, the Dawgs had a LOSIING record in 1977….went 9-2-1 in 1978….couldn’t beat the ACC in 1979 (6-5)….and THEN won the National Championship in 1980 along with three SEC Championships!
While I believe that the Coaching the last couple of years has been poor at best, we do have a Coach that has outstanding character….and similar traits…to those of the Coach Dooley.

CMR- If your coaches did such a fantastic job then why were you 6-7 this year?
As far as feeling like a 1st year coach then where have you been the last 3 years? CMR well if youre freed up to do more things as a head coach why have you not done this sooner than later? You keep making excuses for Bobo and try to keep the focus off of him. We’re not stupid CMR and you sound like a politician again. Let the record speak for itself, your record is dismal the last 3 years.
Your offense stats tell us what you apparently are blind too. You pretty much admitted that you have failed as a coach the last 3 years and i think you should refund 3 years of salary back to the university. You gave up on Georgia 3 years ago cause you over worked and never sought advice on how to disperse duties to your staff.
Now your rejuvinated why?
You say that the fans are overreacting for the dismissal of Bobo but yet you refuse to answer questions about his play calling. You gave Martinez the DC job cause you were friends from the same college and he seemed like a good fit and yet you never really searched for a DC til he was fired.
You didnt listen to the fans about Willie for 3 years and what did you say fans were? Overreacting…………
More like you UNDERREACTING i’d say.
Its more for the money than the coaching now isnt Richt? If you were paid on MERIT i’d say you’d be pretty pour the last 3 years. You may have a better winning percentage than Dooley did but thats where the buck stops. Players feared and respected Dooley. They played hard for him and he did it without 4-5 star players as you did. He passed but always had top RB’s and had a running game 1st.
You and Bobo are 2 peas in a pod. Dont come to a Press Conference claiming that your staff did a superb job when you know that wasnt the case cause thats a bold face lie.
Dont go on a Radio Show if you cant answer the tough questions and tell them not to take calls concerning Bobo….man up!
I want a quality coach that can be a man and face anything but you have a tough enough time controlling your players and dont hold them accountable if their “impact players” and do a dog-n-pony show for the others that dont mean much.
Youre fooling no one sir.
Its not about being freed up is it? Its bout golfing and tee times and that big pay check on friday. That Press Conference told me alot about you character wise. You stood there and lied to all of us thinking we’d buy that as much as Garity bought your dismal excuse for your performance this year.
Remember “the truth shall set you free” and believe me it will.

It appears, at least to those who really want to see, that many, if not all, of the present staff have reach their level of incompetency.

Despite what the dwindling set of blind homers and Buck Belue types think, you can’t put lipstick on a pig and expect everyone to think it’s anything but a pig. Poor coaching and on-field performance over the last 3 seasons coupled with a dreadful and embarrassing showing at the Liberty Bowl has turned the majority of Dawg fans and most potential recruits against the CEO MR regime. Fan reaction to the press conference and the lack of commits from the UA game last night bear this out. Stating that Searels and Bobo did “great jobs” last year shows just how delusional CEO MR has become. Most fans and potential recruits aren’t buying this or any other “lipstick” spin.
CEO MR’s record this coming season is irrelevant. We’ve rapidly gotten to the point where all faith has been lost and a head coaching change is the ONLY real solution that will change player’s and fan’s attitudes . Perception is reality. The SEC is full of recent examples of where change was extremely positive. Shula, Tuberville, Nutt, and Croom were replaced with terrific results in a very short time. Likewise, look at how the Cowboy’s players reacted to the replacement of Wade Phillips. CEO MR’s rearrangement of the Titanic’s deck chairs is just going to keep us in the death spiral of bad performance impacting recruiting which impacts performance which impacts recruiting.

Why don’t we give all of our great assistants like Bobo and Searls and maybe Van Halenger a pay raise. I saw that Smart got another nice raise this year so maybe if we paid our guys more they would do better. Or maybe we should only pay them if another team wants to hire them. I have not heard of anyone trying to hire Bobo or the others. You chose which option makes the most sense.

Why is CMR still at UGA???
Answer: Money.
UGA is stuck with him for one, maybe two more years. Firing him AND his entire staff will be now too costly with $$$ contractual arrangements . Additionally, UGA would have to shell out some more $$ skins to bring in a new man. The money outlays would be in the mid teens and in the millions. For now, UGA has to bite the bullet. We have no $$ choice.
What to do? For now, nothing. We are stuck. Next year we see how that plays out. Adams and McGarity know how it is. They want Richt to turn it around. THAT would make their jobs so easy but layer in the lousy, lousy recruiting of 09 and 2010 and that guarantees that Richt will have to be replaced in December.
In the scheme of things, UGA football fortunes do not put bread on my plate.
Go Dogs.

Put me in coach, with all due respect, you don’t have to be a coach to know that something is wrong with this program. Whether it’s football or another type of business, many of the same business principles can be applied. I’m afraid denial & the ostrich syndrome are not adequate. It’s obvious that many of our “symptoms”-arrests, lack of effort in the bowl, etc.-are just like a canary in the coal mine. I like MR as a person & like his calm demeanor but that doesn’t qualify him to be a head coach. Unfortunately, most personnel on this team (and this includes many players) have reached their level of incompetency.

He is looking more and more like a person with medical issues, at least some clinical depression. I think he is a great man and I swear there is no malice in this comment. Does any other medical guys see what I’m seeing or am I just searching for a reason for this madness. I hope if the team medical staff or Mrs. Richt notice anything they will approach this delicate situation. I for one will be praying for him. Anyone else see this??? Seriously!
