Georgia will revise ‘7-6′ record on senior plaques

Georgia distributed plaques to its senior football players at its annual awards gala last month with 7-6 inscribed as the team’s record, even though the Bulldogs were 6-6 at the time.

Central Florida heard about that and naturally took umbrage, considering it a sign that Georgia was taking the Knights lightly and presuming a Liberty Bowl victory.

Not so, according to Georgia, which says it routinely includes a bowl victory in the record on the senior plaques and then makes a revision in the event of a loss.

“Did not have anything to do with taking UCF lightly,” Georgia associate athletic director Claude Felton said in an e-mail today. “Every year we present the senior plaques at our football Gala, which is always held before the bowl game. One line on the plate is the season record, and we always list it with a win in the upcoming bowl game.

“If we lose the game, we replace the plate. We’ve done that 14 straight years and only had to replace the plate three times.”

Central Florida, of course, beat Georgia 10-6 in the Liberty Bowl — Georgia’s first loss in its past five bowl appearances and third in its past 14, dating to 1997.   So Georgia’s 23 seniors will be getting new plates bearing the 2010 team’s accurate record: 6-7.

Estimated cost of the revision is $200.

Shouldn’t we just wait to distribute the plaques after the bowl game?

Just shows you the mentality that surrounds the football program. The program needs an attitude adjustment and now.

Why give a plaque for a 6-7 record? I wouldn’t hang it in my house!

I think the only thing that needs revising is under offensive coordinator it needs to say Friedgen, NOT Bobo. Think about it!

Georgia Poodle…..one would think a 10-6 loss to Central Florida might just spur the attitude adjustment you desire.

Many followers don’t wish to believe it, but the mighty have in fact fallen. We’ll see how quickly they can respond and pick themselves back up.

Romedawg, if it was your young person receiving award, you would want to see them receive it at the Gala in December. Remember we are a trophy oriented society that from age 3 up everybody gets a trophy or plaque. I guess you believe that the AD should mail it to them FedEx and cost even more…oh…well….

That is one of the stupidest policies I’ve ever heard of. Why don’t we go ahead and hand out championship rings to next year’s team?

What is even more embarrassing is that UGA would even accept a bowl game bid at 6-6. I would have had more respect for them had they declined the bowl bid stating that due to their performance this year, they do not deserve to go to a bowl. No .500 team should be going to a bowl.

UGA may have done this before the last 14 bowl games, but it is a bit presumptuous.
I am sure that Vince Dooley never did this – he would have made Louisiana-Lafayette appear equal to the NE Patriots and would have told the players that nothing was taken for granted.

If we can do this with the plaques, why can’t McGarity go back on his word from a month ago that Richt will be here next year and fire him now? I don’t think any plaques would have to be adjusted.

I went to the Carolina game, the Tennessee game and the Liberty Bowl this season. I drove over 1,400 miles just to go to the Liberty Bowl (Charleston SC to Memphis). UGA lost two of the three, despite having better talent than all three opponents. I will not spend another dime on UGA football until the administration at Georgia makes sweeping changes in their football program. Enough is enough. The staff at UGA couldn’t coach its way out of a wet paper sack. For Richt to accept those tremendous paychecks of his is almost criminal.

Another thing is when our players celebrate by jumping up and down, beat their chest or say something that makes them seem like they are world beaters. I think that the coach should ban players looking like idiots when they end up losing the game.
All celebrations should wait until the end of the game and if I was coach I would bench anybody that want personal recognition for catching a touchdown pass or intercepting a pass when as a team you haven’t finished the drill. I don’t care what one person does if we lose the game. This is a team sport and I think we have entirely to many individualist.

UGA waste money on placks for the football team by printing them before the bowl game and printing the team record with a bowl victory. HAHAH What a waste of money. Why not just send the players the record piece of the placques after the bowl game?
