MEMPHIS — Uga VIII will miss the Liberty Bowl on Friday because of illness.
Georgia’s bulldog mascot is sidelined with a “gastro-intestinal condition,” the university announced late Thursday afternoon, and did not make the trip to Memphis.
“Russ,” the former interim mascot, again will fill in, as he did for the final two games last season and the first six this year. Russ has bowl experience, having been in Shreveport for Georgia’s victory over Texas A&M in last season’s Independence Bowl.
Uga VIII took over as Georgia’s mascot at the Oct. 16 homecoming game against Vanderbilt.
Georgia plays Central Florida in the Liberty Bowl at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

They probably forced thepoor little guy to watch the GaTech bowl game. It made everyone’s stomach turn.
Use academics as an excuse that you can’t get good players all you want, but we all know those players are being pushed thru the system just like any other major school. Simple fact is, your team sucks, your campus is ugly, the surrounding area is riddled with crime, and your coaching staff thinks an offense that died a horrible death in division 1A over two decades ago will work.
It’s no wonder Tech fans are always so angry when they post on these boards. I would also be angry if that was my favorite school.

I hate to be this guy. However, I’m alumnus of UGA and a season ticket holder since 1987. I thought I’d never say this but the program just feels adrift. Caleb suspended again, Uga VIII misses the bowl game. Mark Richt is probably a nice man and a decent coach but Georgia has lost direction and focus under him. He made a lot of money so don’t feel sorry for him. It’s time for a change and that will be even more evident when Crowell signs with Alabama and Drew with Auburn.

Georgia’s breed of bulldog seems to be extremely unhealthy. Seems like every time I turn around one of them is sick, dying or dead.
And when you seem them on the sidelines, they look listless and downright bad.

True, we have had two seasons that have been tough to take but now is not the time to get weak. Anybody can jump on the bandwagon when things go great. Dawg up man, never back down on that bark!

ATL-AU, enjoy your moment in the sun before the world comes crashing down around your ears. Perhaps not this week, perhaps not the next, but the lie that this Auburn season has been will be exposed sometime in the future. Cam will finish out his mercenary NFL audition year and move on to the pros, the NCAA will make an example out of your outlaw program, and Auburn will return to being Auburn next season (translation: second best team in your own state)–or worse, if the whole truth comes out. Which could mean the NCAA Death Penalty, loss of SACS accreditation, and/or expulsion from the SEC.
Yeah, we have a “worthless” fanbase. I’m sure Auburn and Bobby Louder know exactly what things are “worth.”
(Thanks, by the way, for taking the students who couldn’t get into Georgia all these years.)

ATL-AU, heeldawg is dead on in paragraph one. When all is said and done (and it will take 2-3 years I am guessing), the memories of 2010 will be distant and the punishment meted out that time will make all of what you are bragging about now hardly worth the pain you will feel then.
I’ve always respected AU and have enjoyed the unusual connection it has to UGA but, trust me, none of what you will enjoy this season will be worth it when the NCAA finally gets through with you.

wxwax–Any pure breed, such as the line of English Bulldogs from which the Ugas descend, are more prone to health issues. Bulldogs, like Pugs and Boston Terriers, are marked by a sort of squashed face which means shorter nasal passages and an increase in respiratory infections. Bulldogs are also not a small breed (50 pounds is not uncommon) and on a smaller frame leads to joint issues that may require surgery. The GI issue that Uga VIII is currently experiencing, however, is not a breed-specific issue…just a nice way of saying diarrhea or vomiting from eating grass.
As for the listless look on the sideline…my only explanation is that, sadly, there hasn’t been much to cheer about in recent years as a dawg fan.

You Dawg fans who keep repeating Tech scores like a mantra enjoy yourselves all you want. The thing is… Tech alumni and fans have lives that don’t depend entirely on what a bunch of kids does on Saturday afternoons. College sports are fun to follow, but the biggest reason for going to college is to get an education. Unfortunately and shamefully, most UGA football players end up either unemployed and homeless, or have menial jobs in custodial or sanitation workers.
UGA fans don’t seem to care about anything but football, and they don’t care if their players are enrolled in silly majors that no parents who are paying the bills would send their kids to UGA for. The very few football and basketball players who graduate have no job opportunities and end up unemployed or working in menial jobs that hardly require a college degree.
Georgia Tech is a real school with serious academic standards, and that includes scholarshipped athletes. UGA has a long history of being a party school, where parents send their kids for an easy degree, even if the degree itself is practically worthless.
Jan Kemp exposed the crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or self-discipline.
The bottom line is that most Tech fans have very good jobs and productive lives that don’t depend on Tech’s football record for their happiness in life. It would be great to beat UGA more often, but when you put scholar-athletes up against thug-athletes, it’s usually no contest.
It’s pretty pathetic to see UGA’s retarded fans who typically have never been within miles of a college classroom and who live or die with UGA’s weekly results on the football field.
So keep on posting scores all you want, especially since you’re home with plenty of time on your hands. I wish you well, maybe you’ll get lucky and get your old job back at the Waffle House before your unemployment checks stop coming.

Uga is just sick of the NCAA, college athletics, and most of all these fans that think they are the next Vince Lombardi. UGA knows you have two kind sof people in sports. You have the competitors that played and know the game and you have those that watch sports and think they know it all. It turns my stomach also. It is not about the kids or the game anymore. It is about filling the luxury suites with spoiled boosters, and going to the right bowl that is usually politically chosen. I am sorry I am just venting befor the new year.

Your WHOLE post was uninformed BS or lying BS. I’d like to think you were lying and just not that butt stupid.
Techs athrelete’s don’t have to perform. Nor do they anywhere come close to the academic standards for admission as the rest of the students there. UGA has a better graduation rate over at least the last ten years, look it up, I did.
That “we have smarter boys” BS doesn’t fly. Stanford makes their players perform, and they do well in Football. Not to mention the service academies, (ever here of The Air Force Academy? I think Tech may have recently played them). Joe Paterno doesn’t let his boys slide through, and they are successful year in and year out.
Your whole pathetic attempt at an “argument’ is pathetic. I thought they gave a better education than that at Tech, but judging by YOUR post, I was sadly mistaken……….

This post made by a Tech alumnus last month deserves to be read again by dawgtards:
Reading all these simple minded and illiterate comments from the THUGA rednecks remind me that I was right to routinely reject any UGA applicant for a job when I was the Personnel Director for a Fortune 500 Company, Naturally being a Tech Grad (IM 1976), I already knew of the educational gaps for THUGA grads and the redneck work ethics they brought to the job. Occasionally I would, against my better judgement, feed one of the poor things into some half-ass entry level job just to see if my opinion of their qualifications, or more than likely unqualifications, and without fail they had either already been fired or quit. The ones that managed to stay provided me daily glimpses of my mistakes.
It was sort of pitiful to seee the poor things come in with their degrees and actually think they were qualified. Frankly a degree from THUGA held about the same weight as Fort Valley State, ABAC, or Clark of Atlanta. Actually I preferred a degree holder from these Institutions of “higher learning” to THUGA as they knew which side of the 8-ball they were on and had better attitudes.
Think about the football team THUGA puts on the field. 96% of the players are academically provisionally accepted, with Adams, Richt, and their cronies knowing full well that they will use up all their coaching and tutors and elligibility and then have their asses kicked out on the street and soon be pushing grocery carts around Atlanta looking for a warm place to sleep. What a pitiful way to run the State’s flagship university. I am going to this week’s game where the Ga THUGS will undoubtedly whip my North Avenue Scholar Athletes once again. Brawn and brainless win out over brains any day of the week when you are talking mayhem on the field. But once again I am hoping that Tech stomps their sorry asses.
And another little reminder of why a crapping mutt is the least of your problems.
In the 1986 Jan Kemp trial, O. Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for UGA, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”
That trial exposed UGA for the football factory that it was, and exposed Vince Dooley as a fraud and a sleazebag. It also derailed Dooley’s plans for a political career. That’s why we see the decrepit old fraud doing TV commercials even now.
Mark Richt is just the latest in a line of sleazy UGA coaches who coddle athletes and discard them after four years of football. He recruits illiterate morons he knows aren’t smart enough for college, but he doesn’t care, as long as they help him line his pockets with millions of dollars each year.
UGA, perennial winner of the Fulmer/Richt Cup and the infamous Cesspool of the South.

This game ain’t over yet either.

ok Stendek the refs were against the SEC but not a single flag on the UT QB for making a Salute after every TD pass, but that cost KSU a game earlier. The kid never dropped the ball and there was no camara shot to prove other wise.

SEC team in an SEC town in an SEC bowl please Stendek give it up. The refs tried to give it to UT on the second to last play when the UT player late hit the UNC player on the ground. Then the refs tried to say no time on the clock so UNC couldn’t try to tie it with a KICK. The refs were helping the VOLS at the end of the game. UNC had to beat the refs and the Vols.

At the end of regulation when they spiked the ball with l sec. left and had too many men on the field, did they mark the 5 yard penalty from the previous spot or from the end of the last run? It looked like to me they marked it from the end of the run which would be wrong. I may be wrong.

On the late hit that was not called, you will see that 49 blocked the vol player into the runner. I can’t believe with all the futher reviews they couldn’t see that. And I could care less who won the game. But he was clearly blocked into him.

An english bulldog suffering from this disorder just means it’s purebred. One of the world’s sickliest dogs. Bred to be sick. With bad hips. These defects are prized. And fans of the breed are the same who chastise Michael Vick for killing dogs. But these people will say dumb things like they can tell the dog is happy by whatever grunts or snorts it makes. It’s just happy to be alive and getting fed. I hear slaves liked their living arrangements too and did not want to be freed. Georgia even put up paintings in 1956 in its government building to commemorate slave’s contribution to Georgia agriculture. It’s “our heritage being celebrated.” Just like the Germans celebrating their heritage by honoring the death camps for their forced labor for anyone deemed unworthy.
Whoever writes the history says what’s good or bad and for now, breeding sickly dogs is good.

Michael not all slaves were treated bad either. Don’t do the same thing you complain about and paint with such a wide brush stroke. I like the look of the bulldog, but you are right. they have been too inbred to be healthy. English Bull Mastifs are the same way. They are too big and inbred that they have so so many health problems and short lives. These dogs both last only about 8 years and that is sad.

Would YOU want to go to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl? Smart dog. Hope he has a lot of patience. It will be a long, long way back for the puppies. The puppies can take consolation in the fact that GT collapsed this year and had to play (and lost – how mortifying) in the most laughable of these two Bowl games. If Uga had been on deck to go to Shreveport, he would have killed himself.

UGA VIII is smarter than any idiot Georgia fan who travels to watch their sorry team play in a meaningless bowl(again). And for all of you dumbasses waiting for the NCAA to punish AU, don’t hold your breath. AU hasn’t even been accused of any wrongdoing. UGA should be the school being investigated, no team should have twice as many arrests as wins. There has to be a rule aqainst having too many criminals on one team. Athens PD is thankful for UGA football, without the team they would have to lay off half the force.
