UGA gives Williams permission to talk to schools about transfer

MEMPHIS – Georgia backup safety-linebacker Nick Williams has been given permission to speak with other schools about transferring, UGA said Wednesday night.

Williams has expressed interest in transferring from Georgia to another school but has not told UGA that he definitely will do so, according to associate athletic director Claude Felton. Williams will be released from his scholarship by Georgia if he chooses to leave.

Meanwhile, he remains eligible to play in Friday’s Liberty Bowl game against Central Florida.

Williams, a junior, has shifted several times between safety and linebacker for the Bulldogs.  He began his season at safety but has been working at inside linebacker recently. He has played in eight games this season, starting none and making three tackles.
