(Note: The UGA blog will be on hiatus while I take a week’s vacation before heading to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl.)
Georgia will be without its starting fullback in the Liberty Bowl.
Shaun Chapas, a senior who recently was named permanent captain of the 2010 team, won’t play against Central Florida on Dec. 31 because of ankle surgery, coach Mark Richt announced Saturday.
That means Chapas’ UGA career ended with the Nov. 27 victory over Georgia Tech.
After battling problems with his left ankle for most of the season, Chapas underwent surgery Friday.
Georgia has three other fullbacks who are getting work in practice as bowl preparations continue: senior Fred Munzenmaier, freshman Zander Ogletree and redshirt freshman Dustin Royston. In addition, backup tight end Bruce Figgins, a junior, is getting some practice time at fullback.
Figgins’ move is “not necessarily a full-time change,” Richt said in a news release, “but we are getting him some work there because of depth issues.”
Chapas received numerous honors at the Bulldogs’ recent awards gala. In addition to being named the team’s overall permanent captain, he received the David Jacobs Award, which goes to the player who best portrays “courage, spirit, character and determination,” and shared the Leon Farmer Award, which recognizes dedication to the strength and conditioning program. He also was one of four recipients of the Coaches’ Leadership Award.

One of the best fullbacks to ever play at Georgia in my opinion. Unfortunately, an offense with a fullback in the SEC means one less playmaker on the field. Richt and Bobo just haven’t figured that out yet.

Hit A Single – maybe you should apply for one of those jobs, being that you are so wise in the ways of football.
But, in case you haven’t noticed, the last college team to use a fullback, and actually benefit from it was Alabama in ‘09. And it didn’t work quite so well in ‘10, did it?
edumacated was actually right, in that, employing a fullback, in the Power I formation, you are leaving an extra receiver on the sideline.

Hey Joey, running teams win championships. You need to learn a difference in the I and the power I. There is a difference. UGA uses many formations without a FB, but I promise you all good teams have a package with a fullback. Teams don’t use that extra receiver as a playmaker they simply use him to spread the field. That is a new trend and all coaches do what they think is the best for them. But you and that other guy don’t need to blast Coach Richt or Coach Bobo for what they do.

Can’t Richt see what a beast Figgins would be at fullback. It’s like he’s an afterthought. Is the man blind!? How much more talent can he squander. Figgins is exactly what he needs. Also. the guys need to be willing to run through a brick wall for their S/C coach. Tereshinski is not that guy. It’s just another cost cutting measure by Richt so he can keep his share of the pie. Similar move as McClendon to RB Coach. Problem is, while it keeps Richt rich, it hurts them kids and the program. But since when have the kids and the program taken precedent over personal gain at UGA. What a program.

Everyone keeps repeating the same mantra “We Run this State”.
Now think about it, does that mean much or anything at all. You are competing against GT, Georgia State, Georgia Southern…etc…
UGA lost to the team to the East(USC) South(UF) West(Auburn) , the only direction you won was North(Tenn) and that makes you a multi-directional loser.
So keep up with the We Run this State, not much to gloat on when your state is one of the suckiest in the south this past year. Besides Georgia Southern, what is there to be proud of?

The UGA program has been a joke since touchdown celebration, black out saturday night and arrest city. Poor leadership , poor play, poor sportsmanship, league leading penalties, league leading personal foul penalties, and a coach who fires his coaches to save his million dollar plus salary who has no heart for the game any longer.

We all want to live in this world where scoring touchdowns is more important than the report earlier this week about graduation of student athletes. Move on and Graduate, contribute to society,do well by others and be glad he had a chance to ever pull on a UGA jersey, there are thousands of others who were probably just as good but were never given the opportunity. Richt and Bobo use the fullback because they recruit puss o-lineman and backs like king, ealey & carlton thomas who can’t block.
Pro style offenses run first therefore need the fullback to lead block. it’s almost a “necessary evil” in the dawg offense, and maybe it’s handcuffing them.

Glad there are other bloggers here like “obvious” that can see what it takes to be a student athletic and have class too. There are some glorious moments in college football, but you are always under a microscope. If all you can say about a player or team is malicious, then what does that say about you? I am a 5Th generation Atlantan and was fed GT my entire life. Good Old fashion Hate was the theme at home. As I got older I could see many things to proud of at schools other than GT…UGA, AL, AU, Tenn, ND, etc. Were these other teams my fav’s…no, but they had players or coaches that brought something of value that linked us all. I played football in college, but 14 years of playing rugby cemented my feeling that you could go all out to defeat your opponent, but the second the whistle blew you congratulated each other for a game well fought and then …off to the pub for a pint and stories. Most of my close friend are rugger’s, because they embrace the notion that sport is just a part of your life, but the way approach your sport is way you will governing your life.

Shaun,
Congratulations on a wonderful career, sorry to hear you are not going finish your career with the final bowl game. I am sure you are dissappointed that your collegiate career has ended with an injury. However I am sure your family is very proud of you and your time at UGA.
Hoping you have used your time at UGA to earn a degree, make lifetime friendships, and bonds with both athletes, students, professors and alumni. Let me repeat the the same as some said earlier, you may have heard the crowds and fans cheering for you during each game, but the biggest concept and accomplishment you can carry forth is the education you were afforded during your time in Athens.
Many people have no clue the time and effort that a student athlete, a student trainer, student manager, graduate assistant is required to devote to earn that scholarship, that travel experience and the degree they leave a school with. The average scholarship related to athletics requires rising before 6 a.m. each day, attending a training room, weight room, a workout, then mandated breakfast, classes from 7:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with a required lunch training table in there somewhere, then onto individual meetings, treatments, taping, team meetings, practice, conditioning, weight room, training table dinner, study hall and any other activity related to their sport. An athletic scholarship usually amounts to around .75 cents per hour for all the time required to excel at their craft or sport.
Anyone who dedicates themself to earn a degree, while working in collegiate athletics requires a special person to make it four year, play hard, play injured, and stay out of trouble.

Dog fans have become such a loser bunch of pathetic SEC members. 7-5, 6-6 & prior to that a pre-season No. 1 that got pounded week after week, had 3 first round draft choices and has not won a BCS title in 30 years. Talk about IRREVELANT. A Fullback who we all hope earned a degree because the fact he played on 4 teams that were non factors and were owned by the Florida Gators who won 2 BCS titles, a Alabama team that won a BCS title, a Auburn team that is going to win a BCS title…and where is UGA, heck even GT has won a title since UGA’s last one.

Every year the UGA falls further and further behind in every level of competition….

I have been telling you guys for weeks about how paper-thin this depth chart is going to be this spring. This is just the beginning of shuffling players. The past two classes we have signed total 33 kids with 4 or 5 of those players currently not enrolled at the school. How do you expect to compete with those kind of numbers???…. you simply can’t. Folks, UGA is really in some trouble here and I wish some fans would realize how bad our depth really is unless we sign 40 really good players in Feb. Currently we have 16 committed and we should have much more. I don’t understand why CMR doesn’t recognize this.

Too bad a nice article on a very fine young man results in some idiotic loser posting his malicious diatribes about what he sees as a lousy program in UGA. There is something terribly wrong with “Mama is calling”. Who would take the time to come up with all those stats defaming UGA, particularly in an article that was meant to be a positive recognition of a great kid. Why even post? What do wish to accomplish with all that mean-spirited stuff, particularly when the article had nothing to do with that sort of thing? Very odd to say the least. It’s amazing what idiots will post on the internet knowing the anonymity of it all. Pathetic really.

If Murray comes back along with the wide receivers, tight ends and offensive linemen we have, the offense will be lights out.
It will once again all be back on Grantham.
Get John Jenkins and get Geathers to bulk up and get in better shape and rotate them at nose guard.
Play Samuel and Jarvis Jones at LB and utilize the DE’s the way they are supposed to be utilized and the defense will get better.
Those of you predicting a loss to Boise, I’ll take that bet. We will beat them unmercifully probably 49-21.
SC is the biggest game of the year and fortunately it is at home and they still can’t stop a passing team.

In the 1986 Jan Kemp trial, O. Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for UGA, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”
That trial exposed UGA for the football factory that it was, and exposed Vince Dooley as a fraud and a sleazebag. It also derailed Dooley’s plans for a political career. That’s why we see the decrepit old fraud doing TV commercials even now.
Mark Richt is just the latest in a line of sleazy UGA coaches who coddle athletes and discard them after four years of football. He recruits illiterate morons he knows aren’t smart enough for college, but he doesn’t care, as long as they help him line his pockets with millions of dollars each year.

I’ve never understood how anyone – even an alumnus – could support and take pride in UGA’s football team. When you look at their history for the past forty years, how can anyone ignore Jan Kemp and the “remedial studies” scam, the Jim Harrick fiasco, the DUIs in the athletic office, the DUIs and other arrests of players, the #1 party school tag (i.e., the most drunk students), the suspensions and outright dismissals, the Fulmer Cup, and on and on?
As disgraceful and humiliating as it is, I don’t see many alums and fans demanding an end to this sordid activity. It sets UGA apart as the kind of school most people abhor, and it’s become an embarrassment to the whole state of Georgia.
Will it never end? Apparently not while Mark Richt is at UGA. Richt is perhaps the biggest hypocrite in the United States. But even with all the cheating and lawlessness that he ignores, he still can’t win the SEC.
So you’re paying him to be BCS champions, but he can’t even win his SEC division. So why do you pay him millions of dollars a year?
Just asking.

These UGA fans are so wrapped up in a program that has won 1 National Title in 30 years and still live in the days of Hershel Walker, get whipped annually by Florida, and of late by USC, Alabama, Mississippi St, Tennessee and a few others not to mention a team that fired their coach in Colorado with AJ Green in the lineup.
Ranking the Schools in order of talent, coaching, overall program and ability to compete for a national title year in and year out:
Alabama

The once pretty decent at UGA now ranks in the lower half of the conference with the 5th best prep talent in COUNTRY available year in and year out. Is that coaching? Leadership? You tell me.
There is absolutely no reason for UGA ever to be out of the top 15 in the country, they have a boat load of talent available to them, play in a conference with the most money, the most watched conference on television in the country, and the most written about conference in the country.

Georgia Fans Make Excuses
December 21st, 2010
12:46 am
Lets see how this goes:
Georgia fans just hate it when the facts line up against them.
This past summer the trash talk from all of these UGA fans was over the top in confidence. Talk of winning the SEC East and competing for the SEC Title was so sure in the minds of the Georgia trash talking fans it made everyone else around the league vomit in their own mouths.
Arrest after arrest, AD Evans gets a DUI, while with a woman who was not his wife with red panties between his legs. Multiple players arrested for driving violations and missing court dates.
UGA’s best player suspended 4 games while for 2 plus weeks UGA fans argued he had done nothing wrong and would be starting the first game of the season only to be proven wrong after admitting selling a Jersey to a know agents runner for 1K.
Losing to USC to start off the SEC season, Losing to Arkansas at home, losing to a lowly Colorado team, then a couple of cupcakes, then the season falls into darkness with Miss. St., Florida and Auburn spanking on that bulldog hide. Having to win a home game in the finale against a GT team that was probably the 7th best team in the ACC.
For mulitple years the UGA recruiting ranked in the top 7 in the country only to never make the big game with multiple NFL first rounders topping their roster. Slowly like a CROCK POT this team has cooked up more ways to lose games that stunk than any other previous team in the conference. We have seen Tennessee implode, Florida have a coach quit then come back then quit again but still beats a UGA team.
Please give me your latest excuses on why this program is losing and give me your philosphy that holds water why the 2011 version has any other opportunity to do any better.

Caleb King has legal woes again, and has failed 3 of his 4 courses this semester – along with posting 430 yards rushing this entire season and 8 yards receiving this entire season for a Grand Total of 2 Touchdowns – which matches his Arrest Record for Mark Richt with 2 as well. Mark Richt made a huge big deal about it when Caleb King barely Qualified for college; instead, he is Mark Richt’s number 11 football player Arrested in 2010 and now brings MORE BAD NEWS for Bulldogs’ Fans with BAD PRESS on-going about Caleb King being declared ineligible to play in the bowl game. He can now try to get his eligibility back by the Fall next season, or Declare for the NFL Draft and be undrafted but given a chance by some team for -0- dollars. Hailed as better than Knowshon Moreno when Mark Richt recruited him and nationally at one point named by several publications as the Top Tailback in the Nation, he had to leave Parkview because of Grades which Caleb lied about at the time, the became the top football player in the state of Georgia 2006 and now 5 years later, a total BUST.
Washaun Ealey also has had academic issues and our Savior Crowell said he is concerned about the history of ruining running backs here at Georgia in our pass-happy offense, which only runs the ball when we are killing the other team with passing.

nope, just can’t understand a gator fan so concerned about what happens on page 4 of the comment section on a web site that has a giant G plastered on the top.
But just to make you feel better. I think UF is probably building an appropriate facility. As is UGA. Huge indoor practise field for strickly football is a collosal waste of resources. I assume your admin toured everybody else’s, as did ours, and concluded that. I WAS making fun of the punk tech fan who seemed to think he is the expert on UF and every other SEC school (as tech fans often do). You should have appreciated that. Again, as if you had any reason to be keeping up with that conversation in the first place.

Altamaha Dawg. I have no fight with you, however the logical thinking on many of these web blogs is that UGA is a premium school in the conference, we just view things differently from an outside perspective just as you and UGA fans view us and other schools differently.

According to a report by Chris Low on ESPN SEC BLOGS:
The University of Georgia leads everyone with 5 Pro Ready Prospects at their positions, SR, JR, Redshirt Sophomores draft eligible. TELL me, please why if we have so much talent is 7-5 and 6 and 6 our past two seasons records?
Talent was apparently here, we have 41 players in the NFL, and we finish 6-6. I have sat back and have been abused by all these other schools who use us like their post hole diggers and keep pounding us in the ground lick after lick after lick.
We are headed to Memphis to freeze our short tails off in a bowl game that no one will watch but UCF and UGA fans. We are all sitting here just begging recruits to come to Athens to save us when we should be like every other dominant program that has to turn away players every year.
This is a joke and it is time to stand up and keep your wallets, credit cards, and donations in our on pockets and purses. Money always gets their attention. But I am not too foolish to think that we have rabid, blind fans who gospelly give and give and give.
Besides a good kid not playing his final game as he should, this article is a summation of another poor poor season by our dawgs. This book is getting harder and harder to read under the guidance of CMR. We are the laughing stock of the league and some of us are just tired of the same old excuses, same old disciplinary issues, same old offense, same old defense and same old penalties game after game after game.
I will tune in to the game, not travel to Memphis, as I have been to the Chick-fila bowl, The Sugar Bowl, Outback Bowl, and to Shreveport. Just cannot swallow the Memphis BLUES this year.

Dog Lover,
I agree. These crap people who stand by and make excuses for our program just do not get it. We are absolutey the joke of the league. We run on the field to celebrate a touchdown in JVILLE, we black out Alabama and we get two black eyes in the first half, we have player after player arrested and have leadership who picks up women in Atlanta.
As an old school player under Coach Dooley we had our problems but we also stayed out of trouble, maybe alot of that had to do with we all live in the athletic dorm and were monitored, but we got an education, worked out, worked hard and got a butts kicked if we crossed over to the bad side. We respected our coaches, our school and our fans. It was not all about “ME” like these kids are today.
We have coaches who are unhirable anywhere elese, who have proven they are not leaders and have an administration who is either new to the program or meddles into anything and everything.
Our Alumni Association is controlled by a small group of people who should be kicked to the curb and replaced with people who understand that winning , education, and perception go a long long way. Not getting recognition for raising money and having your name put on a building or a plague.
We have had too much talent on the campus the past 5 years to be in the position we are in now. We are losing our best 5 players and just in case you have not been to any practices there is not a whole lot of guys who are ready to step up. Maybe they grow up over the summer and come back ready to play. But for those of us fortunate to see things on weekly or biweekly at various practices or functions we understand we are in the former positions of reloading, we have to retool and rebuild from the ground up. We have some good players coming back but we do not currently have that go to back, go to reciever, defensive stopper, or playmake. We have great kicker, punters and as it has been going we are going to need them more than ever in 2011.
Hoping for the best, see you in Memphis, but this is going a hard trip to make and live through. What happened to a NEW YEARS DAY BOWL in Florida or a BCS bowl that brought positive attention to our program?

From spring practice to Early season we had to tolerate on every article written by every reporter on the AJC post made by JAWJA Fans who talked trash, ran their pie holes, spouted off how great they are and what they were going to do and beat everyone, how Green was not guilty, how Green was a victim, how UGA is being made a scapegoat, how other schools got treated compared to Georgia.
Now you find yourself in the Libety Bowl, freezing your dog bones off. Shrinkage, Shrinkage, Shrinkage.
What a group of fans, talk trash, make excuses and cry after every loss, every police report, every AJC negative article, We all know you Georgia fans are victims.

Think about the football team THUGA puts on the field. fully 90% of the players are academically provisionally accepted, with Mark Richt and his cronies knowing full well that these goons will use up all their coaching and tutors and elligibility and then have their asses kicked out on the street and soon be pushing grocery carts around Atlanta looking for a warm place to sleep. What a pitiful way to run the State’s flagship university, and what a gross embarrassment for the people of this state.

Bulldawgs and Bulldawgs fans still cannot get past the fact the best player in college football never even considered playing for the DAWGS. He chose the best school, the best fans, the best team and the best coaches to play for.
Georgia is a joke and everyone knows it. Georgia still thinks the second coming of Hershel Walker is coming every season when they sign a 4 or 5 star running back. Folks it is not happening. Who wants to play with the worst arrest record team in the entire NCAA family, have the biggest flunk out rate of all SEC schools, and have one of the crappiest stadiums that should be torn down and started all over and then maybe then the losing teams will wash away all those heartbroken memories of losing and losing.
Georgia is so horrible.
UGA fans tune in right now on ESPN to see the team that will lay a spanking on the Bullpups in the opening Chic-Fila next year..another spanking from an out of conference foe. We all know Georgia is used to that but guys you are embarrassing every other school in the conference, even Vanderbilt who is in it for the money only and a decent basketball team every other year.
Georgia has Lottery Scholarships that should help them out tremendously but yet beside womens gymnastics, and tennis every sport at Georgia just plain out sucks.
Georgia fans are the worst and worst and are not getting any better.

Then within 2 hours of the game ending everyone with a KOMPUTOR in the state of Georgia logging on to the AJC website calling for Mark Richt’s head. A small portion will be making excuses and blaming the refs, others will promise UGA will get better but in reality the whole picture at UGA is very bleak. I can see RAMBO getting multiple personal foul penalties and getting burnt play after play after play.

Mark Richt needs to beat Texas to the punch and go get Bryan Harsin (Boise States offensive coordinator) to be our new offensive coordinator. Demote Bobo back to QB coach and have him learn under Harsin…. Harsin, if successful in turning Georgia’s offense into a force would probably land a head coaching job and Bobo might be ready to take over again.

Do I understand this right? The Ga player (Greene) got suspended for selling his jersey immediately (after a long wait) but the Ohio Buckeyes don’t have to miss their bowl game because they did not adequately learn the rules???? Is that right? If I understand it correctly, it sure seems to be a double standard.
