(Note: The UGA blog will be on hiatus while I take a week’s vacation before heading to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl.)
Georgia will be without its starting fullback in the Liberty Bowl.
Shaun Chapas, a senior who recently was named permanent captain of the 2010 team, won’t play against Central Florida on Dec. 31 because of ankle surgery, coach Mark Richt announced Saturday.
That means Chapas’ UGA career ended with the Nov. 27 victory over Georgia Tech.
After battling problems with his left ankle for most of the season, Chapas underwent surgery Friday.
Georgia has three other fullbacks who are getting work in practice as bowl preparations continue: senior Fred Munzenmaier, freshman Zander Ogletree and redshirt freshman Dustin Royston. In addition, backup tight end Bruce Figgins, a junior, is getting some practice time at fullback.
Figgins’ move is “not necessarily a full-time change,” Richt said in a news release, “but we are getting him some work there because of depth issues.”
Chapas received numerous honors at the Bulldogs’ recent awards gala. In addition to being named the team’s overall permanent captain, he received the David Jacobs Award, which goes to the player who best portrays “courage, spirit, character and determination,” and shared the Leon Farmer Award, which recognizes dedication to the strength and conditioning program. He also was one of four recipients of the Coaches’ Leadership Award.

mama is, what a sleaze bag you appear to be. I would bet you have never played a down of football you whimpy loser. Chapas has been a damn good DAWG as others have so appropriately described him. Disparaging him in any manner is good fiction. A Third string middle school soccer player has been: mama is. Do you see yourself yet?

Dog fans have become such a loser bunch of pathetic SEC members. 7-5, 6-6 & prior to that a pre-season No. 1 that got pounded week after week, had 3 first round draft choices and has not won a BCS title in 30 years. Talk about IRREVELANT. A Fullback who we all hope earned a degree because the fact he played on 4 teams that were non factors and were owned by the Florida Gators who won 2 BCS titles, a Alabama team that won a BCS title, a Auburn team that is going to win a BCS title…and where is UGA, heck even GT has won a title since UGA’s last one.

Hey UGA,,,
Auburn is building a new indoor practice facility and complex, Florida already has one, Alabama already has one, Miss. St is building one, even Ole Miss is building one, LSU has one, and these are full use facilities. Where is UGA’s indoor facility? Every year the UGA falls further and further behind in every level of competition….

hitasingle….I hung my jockstrap a long time ago. I know what I have between my legs….the truth hurts doesn’t it. It is cold in Memphis this time of year! But that is the reward you get for a crappy season or two..you would be back in Shreveport if the bowl alignments did not get swapped up, but now you get to go a little further north to enjoy the end of year and New Year.
And do you really think it is going to get better next year? Doubtful. if not downright slim and none

mamaaaam, so what you have implied is that you’re a gator fan. If you think that fl will be dominate next year I believe that you are going to be surprised. Transitional year where Eric Dooley and tennesee will probably be one program that you will lose to. Carolina, Georgia, Miss. ST and a couple of others just for starters. Would not be surprised with a 5-6 lost season. Just something for you to think about till next August! Go DAWGGGGS!!!!!!

When it matters. Like in a business proposal, or other such situations that are not just calling out a high school kid in a sports blog.
So again I ask: What’s the name of UF’s indoor facility that they share with the baseball team, that allows them to do so much more than simply “walk through”?

mamamamama, so you’re not a fl fan, so one should only conclude that you are a “st.simons” type gt fan. A bitter malcontent who has no athletic ability(never has) never had a “girl friend”(or one he didn’t have to pay for), possibly a transplant from a northern state, who is loved only by his mother(and that, only part time) and one that pulls for ANY team that is playing against UGA. Maybe, you really are the st. simons, since old staintie has been heard from much lately.!!!!!. Merry Christmas, mamamaaa/or st. simons!!!! Go DAWGS!!!!!!!!

I have been telling you guys for weeks about how paper-thin this depth chart is going to be this spring. This is just the beginning of shuffling players. The past two classes we have signed total 33 kids with 4 or 5 of those players currently not enrolled at the school. How do you expect to compete with those kind of numbers???…. you simply can’t. Folks, UGA is really in some trouble here and I wish some fans would realize how bad our depth really is unless we sign 40 really good players in Feb. Currently we have 16 committed and we should have much more. I don’t understand why CMR doesn’t recognize this.

Bravo UGA insider……I have been saying this for weeks……..Mark Richt quote in the Athens paper monday after the Tech Game…..” We couldn’t stop Tech and no one to put in to stop them”………Oh Really……Tell us something we don’t know….This team needs players….We haven’t had a commitment since Aug. 16th….. We need to sign 28. Richt waiting on the blue chips, and we’ll get 2 or 3 IMO, then fill out the class with leftovers………This staff is in trouble….or Denial…….

Too bad a nice article on a very fine young man results in some idiotic loser posting his malicious diatribes about what he sees as a lousy program in UGA. There is something terribly wrong with “Mama is calling”. Who would take the time to come up with all those stats defaming UGA, particularly in an article that was meant to be a positive recognition of a great kid. Why even post? What do wish to accomplish with all that mean-spirited stuff, particularly when the article had nothing to do with that sort of thing? Very odd to say the least. It’s amazing what idiots will post on the internet knowing the anonymity of it all. Pathetic really.

If Murray comes back along with the wide receivers, tight ends and offensive linemen we have, the offense will be lights out.
It will once again all be back on Grantham.
Get John Jenkins and get Geathers to bulk up and get in better shape and rotate them at nose guard.
Play Samuel and Jarvis Jones at LB and utilize the DE’s the way they are supposed to be utilized and the defense will get better.
Those of you predicting a loss to Boise, I’ll take that bet. We will beat them unmercifully probably 49-21.
SC is the biggest game of the year and fortunately it is at home and they still can’t stop a passing team.
No Arkansas, Alabama or LSu on the schedule.
If Richt doesn’t win at least 10 he should be fired.
