Terrance Edwards did not get voted in because he was not a media item. Also because some dawg fans only remember the high pass miss against UF. No one considered all the passes Green missed the first four games this year. How many games did we lose the first four games this year? It has been several years since Edwards was in the limelight and he has not made it as an NFL player. It is a sad deal for him not to have been on this team and all those thugs included.

[...] what did you think of the UGA team of the decade they announced Saturday night? Do Ben Jones and Clint Boling from the underperforming current [...]

Everyone knows I’m not a UGA homer when it comes to their players, but the Falcons need to do whatever it takes to get A. J. Green. He is the missing link on offense, the man that can get open and make the catch in a critical situation.

AJ was the most-damaging player this season. We had our offensive eggs in his basket, and he broke a rule that directly led to us being 1-4. A rookie QB without his only proven threat equaled losses. The Colorado game was lost with them coming back while AJ was out with cramps in his first game back. We went 5-2 with AJ over the last 7 games, but he cost us a good year with poor judgement.

the only players that are NFL ready are AJ Green and Walsh-Houston should stay another year-Boykin is delusional (not on the smae level as A. Allen-although could be) and the linemen i hope are just curious as to the process

Oh dear lord… most overrated saftey in UGA history.

Not sure who should go there. Maybe Sean Jones or Rashad Jones.

I can’t argue too much on the offensive seleltions.

You could STRONGLY consider Reggie Brown and Terrance Edwards at WR. But I can accept Massaquoi over them. AJ is obviously the best WR to ever play at UGA.

I agree with Greene over Stafford too on collegiate accomplishments alone.

I’m surprised they only named one RB and TE.

I figured Thomas Brown and Leonard Pope would be RB and TE #2 respectively.

“I’m thinking Oliver at corner instead of Allen. wansley a good choice too.”

Good call. I actually got Jennings mixed up with Wansley. I agree that Wansley should be in there. I still remember him coming across the field to save a homerun by Cadillac Williams against Auburn. It was a sure TD until Wansley came along. He was a football player. Wish we had more of those in Athens lately :(

Best post I’ve read so far. I 99% agree with every word you wrote. (I disagree about Davis being bad at pass coverage). I still can’t believe UGA fans think Gregg Blue was a great safety for us. I think it’s just because his name was fun to yell when he clobered someone on the field.

4 games missed =UGA MVP

December 13th, 2010

A.J Green MVP? Seriously? How can a guy that had to sit 4 games due to a suspencion for a greedy motive and left his team hanging out to dry be the MVP? Could the voters be kissing his butt trying to show him love in order to get him to come back? Something wrong with this picture. I am not a UGA fan and I am not sure who should’ve won the award, but I know a guy like that doesn’t deserve it… also, what about Kris Durham? He was one of the best playmakers and dependable guys they had…

Obviously it is none of my business but curiosity would cause one to wonder how a player who played in only 66% of the teams games could be the “most valuable”. And 50% of their losses came after he started playing. What did he do?

Just curious.

Sean Jones over Greg Blue, this one is not even close….., Seems like Tony Taylor should be in there somewhere. Tim Wansley and Asher Allen are too close to call. Asher was probably more consistent, and Wansley made more impact plays…You make the call!

They didn’t list the top UGA coach of the decade: Jim Donnan.

The Dawg Nation is delusional. It seems Dawg fans will bite on anything to avoid the obvious–that UGA has the worst coaching staff in the SEC, if not NCAA Division 1. Richt hasn’t turned anything around. He is a total complete fraud. The Dawgs will again finish with a losing record next year after embarassing us by losing to Central Florida. My how the Dawgs have fallen. Not only can we not beat Florida, we can’t even beat Central Florida. And these stupid Dawg fans just gush about how much they love CMR, how he’s gonna turn it all around, etc. What a joke. This guy reminds me of the old TV evangalist Marjoe. He’s got the Dawgnation drinking that Koolaid. Does anyone really believe that by moving his buddy Van Halogen to another position with no reduction in salary and bring back an over-the-hill true blue UGA mafia man that anything will change? He will throw Bobo under the bus after the bowl loss to keep the alumni money flowing (a year late). Look folks, the fish rots from the head down. Nothing will change until Richt is gone for good.

Tony Taylor was a better ILB than Ellerbe… though Ellerbe did get significant playing time from his freshman year onward… I just feel like he sort of disappeared between the blowout of Boise his frosh year and his Sr. year.

Paul Oliver shut down Calvin Johnson like I didn’t think was possible. Would def trump Allen in my book if he had not been declared academically ineligible for his Sr. Season.

As for WR… I love M. Massequoi… He was a DGD… but there is NO WAY you can list him above Terrance Edwards, and probably shouldn’t list him above Reggie Brown.

And what about Quentin Moses @ DE? I guess he didn’t have as much time in the spotlight, maturing late… but he was a terror off the end.

Thomas Davis is a no brainer… but while I loved Greg Blue, Sean Jones was better.

Stinchcomb not on the list? Come on. Thats just silly.

Q. Moses is a good name Dash. But I still think Grant and Pollack were better. Our DE’s listed is one of the few positions that makes sense to me.

Another worthy mention was Marcus Howard. But he really didn’t do anything until his senior year. But still, watching him make Hawaii’s QB pee in his pants was hillarious

Dash

Big Dawg – Yes Southerland was hurt a lot his Sr. Year. I think Southerland is a good pick, but he was neck and neck with – not Chapas – but Jeremy Thomas in my book. Thomas was a walk on that became all SEC caliber and was as tough as nails. That being said, I have no problem with the selection of Southerland.

As for AJ… there are two ways to look at it. The award is Most Valuable player. You could say – whose presence was most important for our team? Arguably – AJ fits this bill (see three losses in the four games he was gone). Now would we have even sniffed more than 3 wins w/out Murray playing the way he did? Probably not. Add that to the fact that he almost beat Ark (BCS team) and S. Carolina (SECEC) without green and you have a legit argument. At the end of the day, if you have one game to play TODAY (not the future), are you going to pick AJ or Aaron with your first pick? Yeah. I thought so.

Many people have asked me today if they think that Muschamp will hurt us in recruiting this season or in the future. My answer to that is not so much. Coach Urban Myer was the best there was and there really isn’t anywhere to go from him but down. He just signed the past 2 classes which were ranked #1 both seasons…that’s in the nation, not just the SEC folks. UF currently has their class just about full for 2011 so I think CWM will just try and hold on to what he’s got which will give him the #1qb prospect in the nation. He will try and steel a Crowell or Rome just to let Dawg fans know he is the new sheriff in the SEC and a force to be reckoned with. We’ll see on that one.

This all-decade team is pretty idiotic:

Jeff Owens and Geno Atkins are a bunch of fat lazy P*$$ies! Jonathan Sullivan and Kedric Golston would have eaten their lunches.

Dannell Ellerbe over Tony Taylor? Please tell me that’s a joke!

Tim Wansley was better in 1 season than Asher Allen was in 2.

Ben Jones over Russ Tanner? Fernando Velasco over Kevin Breedlove? Clint Boling over George Foster? Asinine!

If Will Muschamp wins the SEC east his first year will he still be stupid. He sounds as if he is trying to put together a great staff.
I’m not a Florida fan but I have come to realize that a great staff can accomplish great things. If Richt had Gus Malzahn and Kirby Smart he would look a lot smarter. No pun intended. A great staff brings in great players who are the reason for great teams. As Casey Stengel once said after managing the Yankees for several seasons. Mantle. Ford , and the other players made me look a lot smarter.

I whole heartedly agree with UGAClassof2004 about Wansley being better than either Allen or Jennings. I think Wansley had something like 7-8 pics as a Jr. and 6-7 as a Sr. Golston and Sullivan were way better than Atkins and Owens. IMO, Sullivan hands down the best DT I’ve ever seen at UGA. Certainly the most talented and athletic. Dude was extremely quick off the snap. Marcus Stroud would be a close 2nd. Eddie “Meat Cleaver” Weaver was pretty good as well. Was Bill Stanfill a DE or a DT?

Also…Southerland was good but him over Veron Haynes!!!??? You gotta be kidding!!! Even though Veron finished at tailback, he played most of his career at FB and was a damn good one. That guy is probably the best FB that ever played at UGA. He could, block, catch, get the tough yards inside, and break tackles like he was lathered up with baby oil. Jim Donnan certainly had an eye for talent and could recruit, but he couldn’t do a damn thing with it. All those morons screaming for Donnan’s return obviously jumped on the Richt bandwagon and didn’t follow UGA before Richt. UGA’s most talented team ever was 2000. Donnan took that team to an 8-4 and looked like crap doing it. They looked sloppy in close wins vs. crappy teams, blow a 1st half lead @ Auburn to lose in OT, and were dismantled by UF and GT. And who can ever forget Quincy Carter’s 5 interception performance in Columbia, SC that year. You think Richt’s teams are undisciplined? JD’s teams were pathetic and truly nauseating to watch!
