Houston, but not Green, named first-team All-SEC by media (w/ full teams)

Outside linebacker Justin Houston, who leads the SEC in sacks, was the only Georgia player named first-team All-SEC by the Associated Press today.

A.J. Green, you ask?

The wide receiver was one of four Georgia players named second-team All-SEC in the AP vote. The others: offensive lineman Clint Boling, inside linebacker Akeem Dent and placekicker Blair Walsh.

Green, an AP first-team All-SEC selection the previous two seasons, was suspended from the first four games this season by the NCAA for selling his Independence Bowl jersey for $1,000.  South Carolina’s Alshon Jeffery and Alabama’s  Julio Jones were named the first-team All-SEC wide receivers. Jeffery has 79 catches for 1,387 yards and nine touchdowns this season; Jones, 75 catches for 1,084 yards and seven touchdowns; Green, 49 catches for 771 yards and nine TD’s.

Georgia punter Drew Butler was not selected to the first or second team despite being one of three finalists for the Ray Guy Award. Butler won the award, which recognizes the nation’s top punter, last year.  The punters named to the AP’s All-SEC teams, Florida’s Chas Henry (first team) and Ole Miss’ Tyler Campbell (second team), are both averaging 46.4 yards per punt this season. Butler is averaging 44.7.

Houston — a junior who, like Green, is considering entering the 2011 NFL draft — has 10 sacks and 18 1/2 tackles for loss this season.

Here are the AP’s first- and second-team All-SEC selections (unanimous selections denoted by *):

No complaints on Jeffrey and Jones. Those two are awesome. Congrats to all these kids. That’s one hell of a team that I would put up against some pro teams.

I hope that continues to happen to A. J. and maybe the Falcons can pick him up late in the first round. Green is exactly what the Falcons need to get better, a really good third down receiver that can be depended on to catch the ball across the middle. Gonzales is slipping, and Green could step in and take his place.

Thugs and lying cheaters like Green should not be rewarded for their anti-social behavior. In any case, he’s far more likely to be in prison a year from now instead of playing in the NFL.

You know, since the guy AJ sold his own jersey to is some schlub and about as much an agent as I’m Scott Boras, maybe Green should hire James Ponsoldt and sue the NCAA for restraint of trade. He’d win. And I guess Cam Newton isn’t associating with a de facto agent at family dinners.

Calling AJ Green a thug is just mind-boggling stupidity and, I suspect, bigotry. Selling your own shirt on Facebook or whatever makes him a thug? What a moron.

Just a personal opinion, but the NFL players union and all other unions suck and should all be decertified. And by the way, professionals in any career do not join freaking unions. Only worthless goons join unions.

And do not get me started on Cam, how the heck could he have NOT know ANYTHING about what his father was doing? I mean c’mon, his father was/is? a preacher in a small town and now all of a sudden with $$$$$ I am so sure he bought stuff with it-How could Cam not notice or question? Just because they have not found so called solid proof YET does not mean he is off clean yet! I think the SEC is holding back because they want $$$$$$ from the Championship game, so all of this is about greed! But Fairley is just about being plain mean and out of control who needs counseling! Alshon Jeffery and Julio Jones over AJ Green as first team SEC WR? Please tell me that is a joke! I get that UGA sucks, but Green has as many TD’s or more than both of those guys, and has done it in 8 GAMES instead of 12. Jeffery and Jones are good players, but in NO WAY are they better than AJ who can put an ENTIRE OFFENSE on his back!

first of all, a punters net everage is MUCH more important then gross, and it is no surprise to me that green is 2nd team considering time missed (but still best wr in sec). on fairley, no one with half-a-brain would deny that he is incredibly talented, but his “cheap-shot” mentality and play are what make so many of us sick about him. also, what is more sad, uga fans “whining” on a uga blog, or non uga fans complaining about uga fans comments on a uga blog?! Seriously, are tech losers still going to the 45-42 (only win in last 10) rally cry?! so sad it is quite funny!
p.s. enjoy it while you acn auburn because that storm is still coming!

You seriously going to dispute the fact that AJ isn’t an impact player. The offense is CLEARLY better when he is in the game than when he isn’t. He will be a top 10 receiver in the draft, no question. I would put this kid up with Randy Moss and Calvin Johnson, as one of the best college WR’s ever!

Good Lord, get a life and go read articles about your teams and comment on those sites. I have NEVER gone onto a blog about another team and commented. NEVER! Having said that, I find it interesting that none of you refute the fact that your coach is a clown and that none of you wanted him. Once scam leaves, enjoy your return to reality, and also enjoy the day when all of this is taken away from you, probation style :) Go Dawgs, and yes, I care even when it is not a major bowl, unlike you Barney Bandwagons.
