Outside linebacker Justin Houston, who leads the SEC in sacks, was the only Georgia player named first-team All-SEC by the Associated Press today.
A.J. Green, you ask?
The wide receiver was one of four Georgia players named second-team All-SEC in the AP vote. The others: offensive lineman Clint Boling, inside linebacker Akeem Dent and placekicker Blair Walsh.
Green, an AP first-team All-SEC selection the previous two seasons, was suspended from the first four games this season by the NCAA for selling his Independence Bowl jersey for $1,000. South Carolina’s Alshon Jeffery and Alabama’s Julio Jones were named the first-team All-SEC wide receivers. Jeffery has 79 catches for 1,387 yards and nine touchdowns this season; Jones, 75 catches for 1,084 yards and seven touchdowns; Green, 49 catches for 771 yards and nine TD’s.
Georgia punter Drew Butler was not selected to the first or second team despite being one of three finalists for the Ray Guy Award. Butler won the award, which recognizes the nation’s top punter, last year. The punters named to the AP’s All-SEC teams, Florida’s Chas Henry (first team) and Ole Miss’ Tyler Campbell (second team), are both averaging 46.4 yards per punt this season. Butler is averaging 44.7.
Houston — a junior who, like Green, is considering entering the 2011 NFL draft — has 10 sacks and 18 1/2 tackles for loss this season.

and of coarse Newton will be back next year, why would he take a pay cut to go to the NFL and get destroyed by the likes of Ray Lewis, Clay Mathews Jr. and others. He makes plenty playing for the barn, and can walk around with his mouth wide open looking like an idiot all day and still pull cheerleaders.

Too much money out there for whoever breaks the truth on the story.

Chas Henry was, by far, not only the best punter in the SEC this year….but also the entire country. He not only kicked balls 60 yards with no return when the Gators needed it….he also kicked the ball out of bounds inside the 5 whenever the Gators needed it. Hardly anyone returned a punt on the guy…even with the nearly 47 yards a kick average. And….to top it all off….he beat Georgia with a field goal. And he is from Georgia….sweet.

Lattimore had a decent year, matter of fact had a great year against a few teams, my Dawgs especially. But, he had 4 games where he didn’t even break 50 yards rushing, didn’t see that coming, thought Arron Murray played a more important role as an overall player and if he had help with playcalling in a few of his games would have had even better stats than he did. Which were pretty damn good for a redshirt freshman in the SEC.
Guess Lattimore gets the nod for making the SEC Camp game.
Which is fine, glad the Chickens finally made it to the Game even though they lost.

Fairley is a defensive tacle and almost had more sacks than Houston, and may have had more TFL’s. Houston comes off the edge and hios sole purpose is to sack the qb, he should have had 15 plus sacks

AU receiver Darvin Adams isnt the best but he’s clutch. and durable. He goes across the middle and can beat you with the long ball. I’d rather have him than AJ because of the little things and intangubles, toughness as well.. Darvin blocks like a champ and is unselfish. We can all agree AJ is selfish putting himself before the team

As a sad Dawg fan… I have to agree with the choices… begrudgingly… I’ll wait for 90% of you to look that up… waiting… still Waiting on AL/AU/TN fans to return from Rednekipedea.
First off… kicker/punter recognition is purely based on stats… UGA’s Butler and Walsh fell off last yrs #’s… nuff said.
I also agree with AJ going 2nd team… screwed himself and team… and, unless he puts on some serious bulk… he won’t amount to much in the NFL… he’s arguably the most acrobatic college pass-catcher ever, but he will get broken in half in the NFL… it pains me to say… but I would choose Julio over A.J. if I were an NFL GM.

Pretty sad when Kentucky has more players on 1st team than we do and our only player on 1st team is most likely leaving early to go pro. Also so far we only have one 5 star player verbally committed out of the top 100 prospects for next year so I guess we are on course to be mediocre for years to come?

If AJ was out the whole season, the Dawgs would won 3 or 4 games. It’s clear that AJ was the reason they won more than four games. A team with Julio Jones and a Heisman trophy winner on their offense blew a 24-0 lead in their biggest game of the year. A game mind you many thought they would win. In other words THEY CHOKED!! AND DON’T DESERVE TO BE ON THE FIRST TEAM!! At least they had enough sense to keep Ingram off the 1st Team!

TampaGator- go away. No one cares about your love affair with anything lizard. Butler kicks left and right-footed equally. He played with broken bones in both feet and blisters on the soles of his feet. He took a 30 hour course load this semester and is majoring in nuclear pre-med. He would have kicked 4 field goals against the Gators this year if given the chance while wearing a blindfold. Your guy can’t hold a candle to the Butler and you know it.

That must be a result of the suspension because it is obvious that Julio Jones is not the receiver that A.J Green is. There is a reason that AJ will be a top 5 pick in the draft and Jones will go between 15 and 20.
