Mark Richt was outspoken on two topics on his radio call-in show Monday night –- his intention to remain at Georgia and his aspirations for this recruiting season.
“We’re trying to recruit guys right now that can make an impact so when we play in that Georgia Dome next year and open against Boise State, we can introduce those kids to the college football world and make a difference at the University of Georgia,” Richt said.
“When you talk about in-state kids, that’s why I’ve been talking about this Georgia ‘Dream Team’, this team of guys that I think are the best players in the state of Georgia. And I believe if they will stay in the state and come together, we can prove to the United States of America that we have the best football in the country [in] the state of Georgia. We need those Georgia kids to stay at home and do that thing for the Bulldogs, and I think everybody is going to get excited about that.”
Richt replied: “I’m definitely going to do more than hang with Georgia. Georgia is going to thrive, and Georgia is going to have a tremendous future ahead of us. And I’m excited to be here.”
Another caller had two questions: Will junior linebacker Justin Houston enter the 2011 NFL draft? And will Richt stay or “jump ship” to his alma mater, Miami?
Richt said he doesn’t know what Houston will do but suggested he could be a top-five or top-10 NFL pick in 2012 if he plays another season of college ball. Houston faces a tough decision, Richt acknowledged.
As for the caller’s second question: “For me, I don’t have a tough decision,” Richt said. “Georgia is the greatest place in the United States of America for me and my family.”

AltamahaDawg, Lane Kiffin absolutely said, “Georgia is the easiest team on our schedule to prepare for,” BEFORE the ‘09 game.
If you failed to read that, sorry, but don’t call me a liar, please.

I’m willing to give CMR at least another year. The defense improved every game and will probably be even better next year. Our new DC will get it nailed down. With Murray it could be a great season coming with the initial smack down of Boise State. GO DAWGS!

Interpretation: UGA football sucks so bad your green butt will be able to play immediately and as added bait you get to play in the dilapidated Dome where the successful Falcons play. In closing, please don’t let AL, AUB, LSU, SC, CLEM, FSU and FL embarrass me once again by taking the best recruits out of GA. I beg you!

Well obviously I don’t think you just made that up to be an outright liar. But mistakingly taking things out of context is pretty easy to do. Those comments WERE about about the defense. I know he had penciled in the UGA game and our recruiting base as a target that year. I have no doubt he said a lot of things out of less than respect.
Georgia has put up plenty big points over the years on plenty of teams/coaches, so not sure why those very good coaches struggled with such an easy game plan as smartass little Lannie Kiffin seemed to know all about.
On that subject I think every coach goes into every game pretty much knowing exactly what the other guy is going to do, and it doesnt take 10 yrs worth of film to figure that out. Everybody knew exactly what Bama was going to do lasy year. Knowing it, and stopping it is different. It’s also possible to stop offenses with absolutely no idea what they are going to do.

Kiffin’s comments were about the offense, and the reporter in the Athens Banner-Herald said it should provide Richt some good blackboard material. Jonathan Crompton’s remarks AFTER the game were about the defense, where he laughingly said he couldn’t believe it, but UGA never adjusted to his rollouts.
I despise Kiffin, but he (or more accurately, his daddy) backed up his pre-game comments, holding Bobo’s offense to two FGs.

Yet another win really brings the copy/paste crowd out in full force. I cannot fathom posting long paragraphs of the same drivel on a rival blog month after month…..now year after year. Frankly, I would never even post or even visit a tech blog. Losing to us year after year must sting so freakin bad and I am glad it does. With Richt or without him the Dawgs will be back on top and the haters (losers) will continue to obsess. It will always be great to be a Georgia Bulldog!

You folks please stop drinking the Kool-Aid. Please ,Coach ,go to Colorado or Miami. The coaching level has gone up in the conference. You haven’t kept up. I believe you have no coaching to do this weekend. Just run off for a few days. Call someone, let them phone it in for you. Ford Truck not showing your mug on its commercials around here. Im all for having to triple our donations to get season tickets and hopefully parking will cost a minimum of $1000 to park, drinks will be $20 at the conscession stand
Please take my hard earned money UGA

I am a huge Richt fan and a faithful Dawg. It is beyond belief that naysayers will trash CMR and wish him gone. I have heard nothing negative concerning Mack Brown at Texas or Paterno at Penn State during the times their programs were less than stellar. Even the great coaches, such as Dooley or Bear Bryant had slump years that had to be overcome.
Five star college coaches are not growing on trees out there. Calling for a coach to be fired leaves the question “Replace him with whom?”
Get behind CMR and our new AD McGarity and let them improve the program. I have the feeling that when the new defensive scheme matures, the DAWGS defense will again become dominant. Enjoy the flashes of talent that we do have and trust that the future teams wil gel and we will be very competitive playing the many superb teams in the SEC.
In short, quit the whining and get behind the DAWGS. For those of us who truly love the University of Georgia, that is our present job.

Georgia has to recruit for starters now because the running backs they have now have not performed very well. Their defensive line also needs immediate help. They need a solid nose guard and defensive ends to help anchor the d-line. This problem gives Coach Richt a lot of leverage he typically doesn’t have because if you recruit a player right out of high school and
tell him he will be starting Sept 3rd, on national TV, on prime time, against Boise State…that
is a tremendous recruiting advantage.
