Murray matches a Shockley record; Richt vs. O’Leary in Liberty Bowl?
2:30 pm November 30, 2010, by Tim Tucker
Cleaning out the notebook before departing the blog for a brief vacation:
- I mentioned a couple of days ago that Aaron Murray needs just one touchdown pass in Georgia’s bowl game to match Matthew Stafford’s single-season school record of 25. What’s more, as Will Brown of Athens pointed out to me and UGA confirmed, Murray already has matched D.J. Shockley’s UGA single-season record of 28 touchdowns accounted for. Murray, like Shockley in 2005, has thrown for 24 and run for four. Pretty impressive rookie season, to say the least. (Click here for more on Murray’s season for the record books.)
- Mark Richt, speaking on his radio show Monday night about Marlon Brown’s recovery of a Brandon Boykin fumble on the kickoff return following the Georgia Tech touchdown/missed PAT that cut Georgia’s lead to 35-34: “That might have been the biggest play of the game for Marlon Brown to recover that fumble.”
- As I mentioned Sunday, Georgia’s expected Liberty Bowl appearance would bring an interesting storyline — the opposing coach. Either Central Florida’s George O’Leary, the former Georgia Tech coach, or SMU’s June Jones, the former Atlanta Falcons coach. O’Leary was 3-4 vs. Georgia as Tech’s head coach from 1995 through 2001. Jones’ Hawaii team lost to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl following the 2007 season. Central Florida and SMU meet Saturday for the Conference USA championship and Liberty Bowl berth.
- Georgia ended the regular season ranked No. 18 in the nation in turnover margin – a 100-spot improvement from last year’s No. 118. The Bulldogs are plus 10 in turnovers this season, compared to minus 16 last season.
- Todd Grantham on Justin Houston’s stay-or-go choice: “He can be one of the most dominant players in college football next year if he chooses to do that. If he doesn’t, then he’s obviously going to be a guy who’s going to play at the next level and he’ll just continue to get better.” Grantham said he doesn’t know if Houston will return for his senior season or enter the 2011 NFL draft. “We’ll just see as we move forward what’s best for him,” Grantham said, “and we’ll kind of go from there.”
- Players will lift weights and run this week, but Richt said bowl practices won’t begin before next week. The bulk of Georgia’s bowl practices will come after fall-semester final exams are completed on Dec. 15.
Today’s other posts:
UGA adds Florida Atlantic to 2012 football schedule — at cost of $1 million.
Richt tells callers he’s staying and wants ‘Dream Team’ recruits to join him.

Marcus, please post recent articles you tool. Why would you post articles about sports writers thoughts of a player before the season instead of after? I know it is because if you posted articles from after the season they would all make you look like an idiot.

So Marcus, just to clarify…you believe that we finished 6-6 above all else because of Murray vs. poor O-Line play, poor defense, fumbles by our running backs, and not having AJ the first 4 games?

While I am at it and posting articles to try and prove my point that Murray sucks but only posting links from writers talking about Murray prior to him actually playing a game. Here is an article that proves that Jevan Snead is a great QB and will be the #1 pick in the NFL draft. Please disregard the fact that he wasn’t drafted at all! I prefer to use very old articles rather than recent stuff because recent ones will not help prove my point.

DawgFaninFL – those are all outstanding for a RS Freshmen and those are the most telling stats about a QB. Now Marcus will get on here in a second and tell us that when it is between 2:14 and 2:28pm during an away game and the temputure is above 80 degrees Murray is the worst QB in the nation.

My last post here was at 3:47, all after that, except this one, were my fans (imatators–who want to fly in my greatness).
There’s only 1 Marcus folks, many imitate, there’s only 1 keen original mind.
I’ll not be posting again on this thread, I’ve slam dunked my critics again, and have provided ample food for thought for the rational fans out there.
Irrational bloggers will not enjoy my posts. That’s fine. Who cares?

Ok one more post….I just wish I could provide one link to back up my post. Maybe just one link from one creditable sports writer or coach that agrees with my evaluation of Murray but the truth is I can’t find any. Trust me if I could I would post them, now I was able to post a few links from before the season on how people thought Murray would play but that is it. Someday I will hopefully find one.

The reason Marcus never posts where he gets his stats from is because there isn’t a single website that posts or keeps stats at that detail (ie. 3rd down completion %). It doesn’t exist. The only place where you could get numbers like that are from the teams themselves. Coaches are the only ones that track specific plays in relation to down and distance, so even though the coaches on the teams don’t keep BS stats like completion % on 3rd down, they could go back and crunch the numbers and figure it out. Bottom line…Marcus is full of it!
Georgia's got a prize in Murray!

You appear to be about as creative as a Mike Bobo offense, and I am one who bleeds RED and Black!!!!! It might be helpful to you to take a creative writing course at a community college, that is, if you can get accepted. much richt, come up with something more creative than what your copying month after month. UGA # 46 in the nation on Offense on 3rd downs Offical NCAA :
Considering we beat only 6 teams and not 1 even reasonable team among 6 wins.

Too much to ask that you might run in here bragging how YOU KNOW EVERYTHING that there is to know and NONE OF US have any clue where to even find how our OFFENSE did this season, 6-6 vs our Opponents and little Aaron Murray unable to beat ANYONE.
Official SEC WebPages, you don’t read these either ?
These show that Georgia is # 7 in The SEC alone (# 46 nationally) in 3rd Down Conversions.
3rd downs obviously are the most important down in college football, after you DO NOTHING the 1st two downs on Offense, and have to either GIVE UP like we do, or TRY to do something positive to gain the first down.
NOTE PLEASE also on this Official SEC WebPages for the entire season, including last night (NCAA & UGA WebPages URL Links above are also up-to-date as of this morning.) that
Aaron Murray’s OFFENSE is (right above 3rd down conversions)
FIRST DOWNS # 8 in The SEC in even getting a DAMN 1st Down.

Shows next :
Aaron Murray is ahead of ONLY Vandie in The SEC East
Aaron Murray is ahead of ONLY Ole Miss in The SEC West
6-6 as our Starting QUARTTERBACK
# 11 in The SEC in SETTLING for Field Goals on OFFENSE.
Aaron Murray was OUT-PERFORMED by Opposing QB all 6 LOSSES.
# 6 in The SEC in Scoring TOUCHDOWNS
# 8 in The SEC in TOTAL OFFENSE (# 46 in nation Total Offense, not good Offense.)
6 LOSSES in 1 year, 11 LOSSES last 2 years, 20 LOSSES last 5 years

I see we are NOT on the National Stage beating a Top 10 Final AP Poll team AGAIN
CMR has NEVER beat a Top 10 Final AP Poll team in ANY bowl game, EVER
CMR has 3 wins vs Top 10 Final AP Poll teams in 10 years
CMR LOST 11 games THOSE 3 years he did beat a Top 10 Final AP Poll team
CMR is 3-11 vs Top 10 Final AP Poll teams in 10 years now

Glad UGA is matching up with CFU in the Liberty Bowl.
I do agree the best Freshman QB will be featured in the Liberty Bowl, but it’ not Aaron Murray, it’s the CFU QB Godfrey, he’s a true Freshman QB who is cool as a cucumber under pressure.
O leary will beat Richt, it’s all about the QB’s.

BoWeevil, you are a joke…All I did was refute Marcus, and a bunch of his aliases, as to his assertion that Murray is the cause for all of UGA’s problems. I never claimed to know it all, just more than Marcus, and obviously more than you! You have done nothing but prove my point…those stats that you posted NEVER talk about 3rd down PASSING efficiency. They talk about 3rd down, but there is no distinction between 3rd and 2, and 3rd and 12. Show me in any of those stats where they break it down by quarter…Marcus’s does. Get a clue, or get back on the short bus. You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting!

So according to you and Marcus, we have Aaron Murray snapping the ball to himself, blocking for himself, going out for a pass that he will catch from himself, taking a handoff from himself…oh and then there’s him trying to stuff the run on defense, and trying to break up a pass or possibly get an interception…GET IT?!!!
I have never stated that Murray has played perfectly, he hasn’t. But to sit there watching all that’s ailed the dogs this year, and to pinpoint Murray as the core problem? All that tells me is that you either don’t know football, or you have an agenda against the kid. There’s plenty of blame to go around. Yes, Aaron struggled against FL, and he’s made some mistakes, but he’s played BETTER, not worse, than expectations for a redshirt freshman. Where are Marcus’s or your stats showing how many times our running backs have been tackled behind the line of scrimmage or how many times Murray’s been hurried? Where are ya’lls stats showing how many times the RBs have fumbled this year once we got into the red zone? It’s a TEAM sport, but if you guys want to keep ripping on a kid whose proven to be a warrior and a baller and will probably be one of the best QBs in UGA history, then knock yourselves out. Anymore websites you want to post that prove my point?
