Speaking of black jerseys, RB recruiting and ‘best scout-team LB tandem in country’
7:48 pm November 24, 2010, by Tim Tucker
ATHENS – Notes from Mark Richt’s post-practice visit with reporters Wednesday night:
- Georgia practiced in full pads, a change from the original plan to work in shoulder pads and helmets. “We felt like we needed a little more work against the cut-blocking in particular,” Richt said. “We hadn’t done that very well yet, or well enough. And so we wanted to get a little more work at that.” All five of Georgia’s practices for the Tech game have been in full pads.
- The Bulldogs’ plan for Thursday, Richt said, is to “get up real early, have some meetings, practice and be done by 10 a.m.,” so players and coaches can “go eat Thanksgiving dinner.”
- For anyone wondering if the Bulldogs might wear black jerseys for Saturday’s game against Georgia Tech: No, Richt said. “Someone thought we might do that?” he asked. “I don’t think we’ll have a jersey change for a while here.”
- Injury updates: Backup tailback Carlton Thomas (stinger) “did all the scout work today,” Richt said. “We think he’ll be ready.” Cornerback Sanders Commings (ankle) is “practicing. He’s getting there.”
- Richt praised the season-long, practice-field performances of linebackers Jarvis Jones and Richard Samuel, both of whom are being redshirted. “I’d have to say … it’s probably the best scout-team linebacker tandem in the country,” Richt said. “They’re really outstanding talents and have given our guys all they want all year long. . . . In general, I would say the defensive scout team … is the best one in the 10 years I’ve been here.”
- Richt was asked if the disappointing performance of Georgia’s running game accentuates the need to sign a big-time running back in this recruiting season. “I would just say that we sure would love to sign a big-time back this year. How’s that?” replied Richt, choosing his words carefully. “That’s a very big priority for us.” NCAA rules, of course, prevent him from talking about specific recruits.
- Happy Thanksgiving, everybody.

Running game looked great with Joe Cox last season. Smae O-Line, same RB’s. New QB.
Guess the QB has to know what audibles to call.
Murray doesn’t, obviously, also, with his lack of passing accuracy, teams have stuck 8 in the box, and forced Murray to win games, and he’s failed to win a game with his arm for Georgia in 2010.
I’m sure Tech will load the box, and make the error prone freshman beat them.
It’s a good strategy. At 5-6, it’s worked.

Look out for Ealey.
He’s pretty awesome, the few times in his career when Bobo has let him run the ball 20 times.
Georgia’s never lost a game when Ealey gets 100 yards rushing.
He’s pretty awesome, but Crowell ain’t coming to Georgia, Georgia’s a passing team.
Ask Ealey.

Ealey averages the same ypc as Lattimore, Georgia just doesn’t believe in the running game.
If Ealey got 40 touches a game, like Lattimore does, he’d be outrushing Lattimore.
It’s a passing style offense.

Ealey averaged close to 6 ypc last season with a decent QB calling some good run audibles, Lattimore’s at 5 ypc, and Georgia wouldn’t give Ealey the ball.
Ealey has 9 td’s on @120 carries, that’s pretty awesome ratio.
So, even if Crowell came to Georgia, Bobo won’t let you carry the ball more than 20x a game, no matter if you’re 20% more productive than Marcus Lattimore.

Maybe Ealey would have gotten more carries if could hang on to the ball. Or maybe that was someone else who fumbled near the goal line at South Carolina and Mississippi State. It’s also hard to commit to the run when your defense hemorrhages points. Of all the problems this team has, Murray isn’t one of them.

Aaron Murray’s rating on third down is 135.08, 5th in the SEC among starters. His rating on fourth down is 172.60, 3rd in the SEC among starters. Murray’s red zone rating is 154.06, that’s only good for seventh, but he’s second in the league in TDs thrown inside the red zone, trailing only Ryan Mallett. Overall, he’s the 4th rated starting QB in the conference, so it’s pretty apparent that he’s not a problem. I’m not sure where you get your numbers, but you should check them before running your ignorant mouth. Why don’t you go back and sit at the kids’ table and let the grown ups talk football. Hey Marcus,
If your boy Ealey could hold on to the ball maybe he would get it more. He cost us the SC and Miss St games which put us in desperate situations. If we gave it to him more it would be more turnovers. Also tell him to stop being a prima donna and try to block a blitz so Murray doesn’t get his head taken off.

Murray threw 3 int’s and had a fumble in the Florida game, but Bobo lets him keep throwing every game just as much, and doesn’t bench Murray for playing crappy.
But there’s a double standard for Ealey. 2 fumbles, giving 100% effort, and you’re benched and carries are limited.
Ealey’s made a lot less mistakes than Murray, I’d rather have the ball in Ealey’s hands with the game on the line than Freshman meltdown King Murray.

If Murray wasn’t so clueless on run audibles, and if he was any kind of passing threat, teams wouldn’t be stacking 8 in the box to stop the run, like teams do against Alabama. Nobody fears Aaron “Choke City” Murray. 8 in the box means no fear.

There’s an argument for Ealey getting more touches. But don’t go blaming Aaron Murray for the coaches’ decisions. Ealey’s role was reduced not only because of poor performance but also a lack of commitment. It was Ealey who got into trouble before the season started and put this team in bad spots on different occasions.

Why would Crowell, a national 5-star recruit, want to commit to UGA with the incompetent coaching staff there? What has happened to all the other 5-star recruits that UGA has recruited over the past five yeas? Nothing, except for Ebay Green who will be an NFL star one day. He’s a mercenary. So are all the rest of them. Auburn pays them, but we try to convert them to the Evangelistic Way. Doesn’t work. 5-star recruits don’t want to be coached down ala Richt and Bobo, they want to be coached up. That is why they will commit to another SEC tool that has someone named Saban, Meyer, Mullen, Chizek, or Petrino. These guys are coaches. Richt is just a wannabe CEO, really just an imposter who has gotten rich with his UGA gig. UGA will be minimized until they replace Richt with a bona fide national-level proven head coach, preferably with no ties to the UGA mafia.

This is a follow up article to another article written by the Wall Street Journal on Sept 24 entitled:
“Alabama’s Unhappy Castoffs”
Ex-Players Say Coach Nick Saban Pressured Them to Take Medical Scholarships; a ‘Bitter’ Outcome.
These appear to be well written and researched articles (and WSJ is known for the high quality of their journalism).
This is a troubling pattern and I would be surprised if the NCAA doesn’t look further into this. Doesn’t appear that Saban has these student athletes’s best interests at heart with these kind of tactics.

Nick Saban values his Scholarships at Alabama
Coach Richt, here, by contrast, gives out half a dozen Scholarships to Walk-Ons – walk-ons who never play by the way
Coach Richt gives Scholarships out here to guys who do nothing but get arrested/suspended…and lose
Coach Richt gives Scholarships out here to players, he either doesn’t ever play, or who he rips the Redshirts off them in the game number 6 or in the quarter number 3 of game number 5
Coach Richt plays FAVORITES and doesn’t let others buried on the depth chart, play
Coach Richt signs 5 Tight Ends, then never lets any of them play
Coach Richt said all Spring, this was his DREAM TEAM
See how that worked out ?
Nick Saban does a LOT better job of valuing his Scholarships than Coach Richt who is more interested in giving a Scholarship out to some person who has a troubled past, whom he then can Minister to. Coach Richt has 2 more Scholarships he says he is still giving out to recruits who were prevented from playing football at their high school, but their Scholarship is good to go here, can’t play for high school team but boy howdy, come on to UGA where you will fit right in with all the others Arrested / Suspended and underachieving small guys no good at the position they are put at.

Please someone tell me. How in the world did we get to a place where we can’t use more than two RB’s. I like CT but he is just too small. Sorry! Does anybody have an idea on Josh Clemons? Are we recruiting him? Seen some film on youtube. Looks pretty solid to me. Oh, don’t confuse this guy with the one coming out of Valdosta next year. That J. Clemons is a LB. Heck, why don’t we try to talk to the Brown kid out of Texas. I know he’s commited to Texas but maybe he made his decission too soon. the bottom line is, whom ever we recruit at what ever position, the fact remains we do NOT HAVE a very large margine for error. Marcus is an idiot. Why even respond. Murray did a great job this year as a freshman. I expect he will be a whole lot better come next year. LeMay has to learn the system and get back into reading the defenses and taking hits. If we can land a JUCO DT, UGA will have a great season next year if BooBoo can be creative with the play calling. Defense should be a whole lot better next year as long as they hit the weightroom in the offseason and dedicate themselves to being great football players. UGA must learn to be more physical and more aggressive on both sides of the ball and yes we need better RBs. Josh Clemon, Quan Bray or Crowell would be big pick ups. Hopefully we can get two out of the three. We also need to make a big run at getting bigger and better WRs in 2012. We only have Conley coming in that’s at least 6 “3″. Need to get better on recruiting more bigger and more aggressive players.

Why should Coach Richt long for a big-time RB? He’ll be tucked into the “running back by committee system” just like every other running back, particularly if Bobo is kept. Ealey runs for 157 yards against KY and has disappeared since – why, cause he’s running worse? Quite the contrary, he’d finally reached the form in that game that could give GA a 100+ yards a game RB. No, he’s disappeared because, inexplicably, running the ball consistently has been taken out of the offensive game plan.
We all marvel at Murray’s guts, character, toughness, and indeed he has all that, but you know what? We’re 5 and 6 going into the season’s last game. Sticking to a finesse, pass first, glossy type offense that doesn’t use the playmakers you have was stale, is stale, and will continue to be stale as long as something doesn’t change.

In the 1986 Jan Kemp trial, O. Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for UGA, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”
That trial exposed UGA for the football factory that it was, and exposed Vince Dooley as a fraud and a sleazebag. It also derailed Dooley’s plans for a political career. That’s why we see the decrepit old fraud doing TV commercials even now.
Mark Richt is just the latest in a line of sleazy UGA coaches who coddle athletes and discard them after four years of football. He recruits illiterate morons he knows aren’t smart enough for college, but he doesn’t care, as long as they help him line his pockets with millions of dollars each year.

November 25th, 2010

UGA grad here, class of 71 & 73. With the 4 and 5 star kids on the campus, what have any of them done for UGA???
David Green as a red shirt frosh WON BIG vs the lowly W/L record of Aaron Murray. David Pollack was not highly regarded and was in fact, brought in as a linebacker or fullback as an add on kid. He played because he had class and he wanted to compete. Today’s UGA all wrold kids are lazy and they are not tough enough physically or mentally to compete in the upper levels of the SEC.
AJ Green? What has he ever done for UGA ?Over his 3 year career, iIf not injured, he was benched for his flea market activities or caghht pracning around in the LSU end zone, where he begged for a flag. That led to LSU getting the ensuing K.O. up field and we ended up losing.
So, I ask it again ……………………what have any of thes kids done for UGA? Orson Charles or Marlon Brown are simply two more that are taking up space and over rated.
Go Dogs. UGA wins 48-24

I agree with many of the statements of the highly touted rb’s and pass receivers. Especially Ealey. Fumbling, not pass blocking, etc… And not just Ealey is out of shape, even here at the end of the season. I bet he would heave lunch if he ran 4 or 5 40 yard wind sprints. He runs the ball one time and takes himself out of the game. Ol Hershel would never have done that. Softness loses, every time.

Does anyone really think UGA is going to be any better next year? The best players and playmakers are all gone, best rusher is gone, best tackler is gone, and best DB is gone. A backup former QB is returning punts, and you think Samuels and JJ are going to be saviors on Defense?
LeMay is a primadona QB who has a daddy just like Cameron Newton and is sitting out his senior year due to some kind of protest. Yeah that is the kind of players a coach with no confidence needs calling plays.
With opening games against a Boise St. team( which plays nobody all year long) has every opportunity each week to play many many players due to blow outs while UGA only minimally substitutes, then a South Carolina team that yes will lose some big time players has too many weapons returning and with alot of confidence to boot. An 0-2 start is very very likely and the UGA will faithful will be once again calling for Mark Richts head on a Black and Silver Platter.
Just stating the obvious…UGA fans( I am not picking on you) but get used to another 7-5, 6-6 season in 2011…

Would like to see richt calling the plays again, he handled it fine when he got here, he could do it now, leave bobo coaching qb’s where he’s comfortable.

Look at the game films of QB Murray
November 26th, 2010
8:12 am
If you look at the SC game film, you can see where about 4 of Murray’s passes were either over thrown or behind the back thrown on one Orson Charles ball, at the SC 4. Had two of them been caught we win. He was bad early on about his overthrows. Missed TDs they were all and ended up losing very close games.
On one long pass that was caught vs.SC ………………… receiver Kris Durden had to slow down and grab it. Had it been properly thrown …………….. it would have been a 65 yd bomb. As it turned out, it was just a long first down and w elater kicked a FG.
Murray failed terribly in the Florida game too. He tires very hard but is not the David Green caliber that we hoped for. Aaron Murray is doomed to be another Eric Zeier with EMPTY statndTime will tell. Mark Richt should have been fired in 09 and so, we UGA grads have to endure yet another
miserable recruiting class, that will lead into another sorry, miserable season for 2011.

I’ve never understood how anyone – even an alumnus – could support and take pride in UGA’s football team. When you look at their history for the past forty years, how can anyone ignore Jan Kemp and the “remedial studies” scam, the Jim Harrick fiasco, the DUIs in the athletic office, the DUIs and other arrests of players, the #1 party school tag (i.e., the most drunk students), the suspensions and outright dismissals, the Fulmer Cup, and on and on?
As disgraceful and humiliating as it is, I don’t see many alums and fans demanding an end to this sordid activity. It sets UGA apart as the kind of school most people abhor, and it’s become an embarrassment to the whole state of Georgia.
Will it never end? Apparently not while Mark Richt is at UGA. Richt is perhaps the biggest hypocrite in the United States. But even with all the cheating and lawlessness that he ignores, he still can’t win the SEC.
So you’re paying him to be BCS champions, but he can’t even win his SEC division. So why do you pay him millions of dollars a year?
Just asking.

Bobo does not know how to call a game. He would be a great coordinator for flag football. But he don’t have a clue how to use a running back. He don’t know how to use a qb either. Remember when he said over and over last year how he was going to design plays to sprint out Logan Gray. Logan played qb but was never sprint out in order to take advantage of his abilities.

He gets blasted on here for sticking with the run game too much. Murray hasn’t won a game with his arm this season????? Buddy we damn sure haven’t won a game this season with the running game.
Ealey is avg. 5.3 a carry and King is avg. 5.4. Ealey has 3 more games under his belt this year and has 751 yards and 11 TD to King’s 455 on 80 attempts with 2. 60 more attempts puts him even with Ealey and at 5.4 a clip that puts him essentially dead even with Ealey.
