QB Murray returns to practice; throws ball ‘extremely well,’ Richt says

(Updated 8:45 p.m.)

As Georgia’s football team resumed preparations Monday for its regular-season finale against Georgia Tech, quarterback Aaron Murray returned to the practice field for the first time since suffering knee and sternum injuries against Auburn.

Coach Mark Richt said on his radio call-in show Monday night that Murray threw the ball “extremely well,” although Richt cautioned that practice conditions are quite different from game conditions for Georgia quarterbacks.

“Aaron is doing well,” Richt said. “He got to practice today. He went through the whole thing. That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s ready to play [under game conditions]. But because we don’t hit our quarterbacks in practice, he was able to do everything we asked him to do. I’m not sure how he would have handled getting hit and tackled to the ground and having the full weight of one or two guys land on him. I don’t know how he’d do in that situation right now.

“But he does feel a lot better. He threw the ball extremely well. If he keeps getting better — like he said today, ‘Coach, I got five more days.’ I hope by the end of the week he’ll feel good enough to go.”

The Georgia-Georgia Tech game kicks off at 7:45 p.m. Saturday in Sanford Stadium.

Murray “wants to play, there’s no doubt about that,” Richt said.

The redshirt freshman quarterback suffered a bruised sternum and a bruised knee in the Bulldogs’ Nov. 13 loss at Auburn. He was held out of practice last week, when Georgia had an open date.

“[Murray] looked pretty good,” tailback Washaun Ealey said after Monday’s practice. “He came out a little edgy today, but he got all that worked out. He looked good toward the end of practice. You could tell he was real banged up, but he’s fighting through it. He’s a tough competitor. He knows we’re all counting on him to come through, so he’s out there trying to grind every day to get the job done.”

Ealey added: “I’m pretty sure he’ll play Saturday.”

if Murray’s so great, why has he only beat 1 team with a winning record, and why is Georgia Richt’s worst record in his 20+ year coaching career at 6-5?

Unfortunate that Richt’s putting his entire career in the hands of the WRONG QB, a guy who has choked every time under pressure, except the Kentucky game, where he beat a 6-5 team against another QB just like him, who has ok stats in areas that don’t matter, and chokes in areas that do.

Thanks to the defense, Georgia beat Kentucky.

The 1 team with a winning record Georgia beat, Murray didn’t have a thing to do with it. He didn’t throw a single td against Kentucky.

The defense bailed him out with 4 to’s.

Marcus I am SOOO Glad you’re not in charge of QB recruiting!

And ENOUGH with the Cam Newton crap.

1. Newton didn’t fit our system, and anyone who can say they knew he’d blow up the way he did is a flat liar including the Auburn coaching staff. They got lucky.
2. Everyone would be calling for Richt’s head if we had Newton right now and he was in the same position he is now. His dad obviously shopped him around and probably to UGA as well and thankfully someone at UGA said thanks but no thanks.

Sometimes when you “miss” on a big time prospect it’s really a win.

If you think Mason or Gray would have done better this year with the pass protection Murray’s had to work with then your football acumen is non-existent.

UGA fans would prefer to hear blogging about how great Murray did against Idaho State & Louisiana Lafayette.

They don’t want to hear that Murray doesn’t play well in the 4th quarter, or on 3rd downs, or in the red zone.

But he doesn’t.

The worst part is, Murray is actually getting WORSE with experience.

2 out of 3 of the last games he played his worst games of the year, against Florida, and again against Auburn.

He’s not going to get any better over time.

you either have it, or not.

Murray doesn’t have it, and never will.

UGA fans, when you write stuff they don’t like, they try and post under your name, to try and discourage the truth.

See, they don’t want the truth, they can’t handle the truth.

They want to live in their little cocoon that says “Aaron Murray has had a great season”

Give me a break.

The question is, why is Murray so BAD against good teams? Is it coaching? No. Is it his O-Line? No. Is it lakc of WR’s? No. Is it lack of RB’s? No. Is is lack of TE’s? No.

Then why is Murray so bad against good teams?

He just chokes under pressure when it counts.

I just saw this post but Marcus has got to be the biggest idiot. The fact that Ealy and King fall down at the line of scrimmage is not Murrays fault. Its the D whose been letting us down in big situations. Murray is way better then Joe Cox or any of your QBs Marcus. You probably think Josh Nesbitt is the best there is huh? Go get a life and learn the facts. Dawgs will take the new system into next year with more equipped talent and more experience. Cant wait to hear from you

it’s called the “it” factor.

Murray doesn’t have it.

He chokes when his team needs him the most.

Some guys have “it”, some don’t.

Luckily, the “it” facotr isn’t sme mystical thing.

You can find QB’s that have the “it” factor by looking at:
1) their win/loss record as a QB
2) how they do in the red zone
3) how they do in the 4th quarter
4) How they do on 3rd down
5) How they do against teams with winning records

The team plays WORSE when Murray is the QB.

Marcus, its not Murrays fault. He has some of the best #’s in the SEC. You have no clue what you are talking about. Also it is spelled “NO” not “KNOW”. Must be an Auburn grad. Good luck trying to explain why your team sucks next year. We rebuild teams and you obviously buy them…good luck

Davis, your continued need to copy and paste the same thing over and over in a UGA blog tells us all we need to know about how proud you are about your team. It speaks volumes. And for you to not realize that tells us all we need to know about your standing to be calling anybody a moron.
