QB Murray returns to practice; throws ball ‘extremely well,’ Richt says

(Updated 8:45 p.m.)

As Georgia’s football team resumed preparations Monday for its regular-season finale against Georgia Tech, quarterback Aaron Murray returned to the practice field for the first time since suffering knee and sternum injuries against Auburn.

Coach Mark Richt said on his radio call-in show Monday night that Murray threw the ball “extremely well,” although Richt cautioned that practice conditions are quite different from game conditions for Georgia quarterbacks.

“Aaron is doing well,” Richt said. “He got to practice today. He went through the whole thing. That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s ready to play [under game conditions]. But because we don’t hit our quarterbacks in practice, he was able to do everything we asked him to do. I’m not sure how he would have handled getting hit and tackled to the ground and having the full weight of one or two guys land on him. I don’t know how he’d do in that situation right now.

“But he does feel a lot better. He threw the ball extremely well. If he keeps getting better — like he said today, ‘Coach, I got five more days.’ I hope by the end of the week he’ll feel good enough to go.”

The Georgia-Georgia Tech game kicks off at 7:45 p.m. Saturday in Sanford Stadium.

Murray “wants to play, there’s no doubt about that,” Richt said.

The redshirt freshman quarterback suffered a bruised sternum and a bruised knee in the Bulldogs’ Nov. 13 loss at Auburn. He was held out of practice last week, when Georgia had an open date.

“[Murray] looked pretty good,” tailback Washaun Ealey said after Monday’s practice. “He came out a little edgy today, but he got all that worked out. He looked good toward the end of practice. You could tell he was real banged up, but he’s fighting through it. He’s a tough competitor. He knows we’re all counting on him to come through, so he’s out there trying to grind every day to get the job done.”

Ealey added: “I’m pretty sure he’ll play Saturday.”

Well, when the season played out, losing to Mississippi State, Arkansas and S. Carolina late in the 4th quarter (in each game) doesn’t look so bad does it.

Dawgs will slap the bugs right in the chops from the start.

Tech will move the ball, but Tevin will be as jittery as any inexperienced QB to EVER play under the lights in big bad Sanford Stadium. Tech turns the ball over at least 4 times Saturday night.

What is the most boring week during the college football season for a TEch fan?

UGA’s bye week.

After watchign Duke move the ball on short passes to TE’s, gaining about 20-30 yard consistantly, I would play action, roll out and hit Orson and White across the middle NON STOP until Tech shows they can stop it.

Then just start handing it off. The hit AJ streaking down the sideline.

Tech probably has the WORST defense we have faced all seaosn, and we have been putting up big numbers against good ones.

Again, neither team will punt this year.

UGA will find the endzone constantly, and Tech will continue to fumble their games away.

Man, Aaron “Choke City” Murray is back? I thought we’d finally get a chance to see the state of Georgia record holder for td’s and yards, Hutson Mason, get a shot with the 1st stringers.

For those of you that have bought the kool-aid, here’s the truth about why Georgia is 5-6. It’s Aaron “Choke City” Murray.

Every college football expert, in the pre-season, said Georgia would struggle with a Freshman QB.

Yet Georgia, especially Richt, won’t admit it’s what’s going on.

Well, here’s what you need to know about Aaron “Choke City” Murray:
Pass completion ranking:
#86 in the red zone
#76 on 3rd down
#83 in the 4th quarter
#71 against teams with winning records

Murray’s record as a starter at Georgia?
5-6, worst in Mark Richt’s 20+ year career.

Mason, we need you.

I have very firm, and straight form the source knowledge, that IF (and thats a REALLY big “if”) Tech is to win this game, and ANY players OR fans who decide they want a piece of the hedges, will be taken straight to Clarke County Jail in cuffs, and pads.

I would warn your players PJ, because this is NO joke!!!

If you average 30 points a game with a 5-6 record, that’s obviously a defensive problem.

So, CR in discussing our 2011 opener with Boise State in the Athens Banner-Herald newspaper, says in part, if you are going to play a game on a neutral site, it’s better to play it in your state. I believe Florida has been saying this for years.

Agreed Gravy Train…..

When we insert Jarvis Jones and Richard Samuel as middle linebackers next season, things should turn a bit.

But we need to focus on DBs in recruiting. Sick of watching our secondary get smoked. But of course, we don’t have to worry about that against Tech.

No way Ga scores more than 28 points. Worst defense Tech has faced all year, so Tech will control most of the game with 10-12 play drives, therefore keeping Ga offense on the sideline. Murray will throw 3 interceptions and Washan and Caleb will fumble once each. Tech 38-28 over GA. See ya Saturday.
