ATHENS – Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray remained sidelined from practice Thursday because of knee and sternum bruises suffered in Saturday’s game against Auburn.
Wearing sweatpants and a jersey, Murray was tossing a football on the sideline in the portion of practice open to the media.
Richt said later that Murray threw the ball “gingerly, or carefully” but had full range of motion and threw without pain. “He just can’t go quick yet,” Richt said.
Richt reiterated that he hopes Murray will be able to do “everything” at Georgia’s next practice, which is Monday. That “would give him and us more confidence he’ll be able to play” in the Nov. 27 regular-season finale against Georgia Tech, Richt said.
“He’s just not there yet,” Richt said. “He’s improving pretty rapidly.”
If Murray is unable to play against Tech, freshman Hutson Mason would start, Richt said. Quarterback-turned-receiver Logan Gray has gotten some snaps at quarterback in practice this week but “would be more of an emergency” QB, Richt said. Mason has played in three games.
Murray’s bruised sternum is a bigger issue than the knee at this point, Richt said. Georgia has an open date this week, and Murray will continue to get treatment through the weekend.

Wow…did coach put Murray in on Kickoff Coverage and we all missed it? What does that even mean!?
Really really dumb fans aside…I am a little concerned that our Fair Catch Specialist’s focus might suffer after taking a few snaps at QB in practice. We need Gray’s focus on the reason we gave him a 4 year scholarship: watching a punt, waving his hand in the air, and catching that ball. We have a fair catch specialist for one reason: so that our coaches don’t have to spend any time on punt block or punt return plays. What do y’all think the over/under is on the number of times Gray wishes he signed with Missouri each day? I’ll bet it is around 400. Sorry Logan…our coaches had no idea what to do with you skill set. Good luck selling insurance brother.

Don’t know how bad it has to get at UGA before we realize that the coaching staff isn’t getting the most of out the talent and resources they have. Each year gets a little worse and I keep hearing about the ‘glory days’ of CMR. 8-5 last year, now struggling to get to 6-6 this year? We haven’t been a contender in the SEC east since 2007 and haven’t been there since 2005. CMR and staff get paid a LOT of money for what they do but you sure wouldn’t know it from the results we’ve seen.

Only a matter of time……I WISH Richt could get this program back to winning big, but this current roster and staff, other than a few bright spots, won’t be able to get it done…. We lose some very key parts this year, and next year will be a mirror of this one. Murray is a bright spot, but I don’t see anything on defense to hold good teams under 20 points, which is what it would take to win 10-11 games……McGarity has little choice other than to let Richt try to turn it around next year. He’s earned that right. I just don’t see the talent or coaching to make it happen. I hope I’m wrong.

On the UGA Message boards, there was talk yesterday that Richt has mentioned to McGarity about a contract extension. The chatter is that Richt wants to probe McGarity about his thinking on Richt staying in Athens beyond 2011, and Using this Colorado thing as a good time to probe. Anybody hearing any of this? I don’t think a 5-6 coach at a “football” school ought to be looking for an extension myself. Without any word ever said, I think 2011 is the year for Richt to show significant improvement. For recruiting purposes, you’ll never hear a peep out of McGarity but spin.

Murray is as good as he will ever get. His problem is he is too short. He will make some great plays because of his feet, but he is forced to take 7 step drops so he can see over the line and when that happens, DB’s and LB’s have more time to react and make picks. Most of his picks were not bad decisions, they happened because he didnt see he defenders.

I can say that if McGarity is doing HIS job, We better start winning some games or we need to go another direction. Dirty plays or not, it was the OL that allowed Murray to get hit and ultimately HURT. Anybody saying our OL did its job has obviously never played the game(Especially on the O-line). If the other team hits after the whistle, then you make sure you block(hit) their a$$ after the whistle. The number one job of the O-line is to protect their QB. End of story. We should’ve had somebody knocking around Fairly every play even the whistle. You’ve got to send a message and protect your QB. Plus, most officals dont throw flags for ‘excessive blocking after the whistle’ on the O-Line. We lack aggressiveness, in general.

I do not have a take on the Puppy – GT game yet. All I do know is that it will be high scoring like ‘08, because both defenses reek. Tech will run all over the pups and the pups will pass over the Jackets (If Murray plays). As far as the future goes, I believe that this has been the reloading season for CPJ and next year they will be back to the 9-11 win season like ‘08 & ‘09. As far as the pups go, there is the obvious downward trend – 9 wins in ‘08, 7 in ‘09 and either 5 or 6 this season. The program is no longer relevent within the confines of the SEC, and would better be served in another conference like the ACC or maybe Conference USA. That is as long as CMR is the coach. His winning percentage is about the same as Donnan, and he got unfairly dumped. Think about it… 19 losses in what, the first 7 seasons, and 14 losses in the past 2 seasons. Definately a program on the decline!!

When a player like Fairly keeps on roughing up your QB you are supposed to assign one, two, or three players to rough up Mr. Fairly. Anyone out there who has played the game knows what I mean. This didn’t happen and never will happen under the present coaching staff. What goes around comes around. Fairley did as he pleased and yes it was the OL and coaching staff that let it happen.
We need to define " better"
November 19th, 2010
9:42 am
The question was something like this, regarding CMR ……..” who has been better?” That would not mean Mark Richt. Better means that now, he is doing well vs even when he arrived at UGA. That ain’t the case.
The last 5 years UGA has been fair to HORRIBLE !!! We all all judged ( if we are working for some one else ) by our management. CMR in the eyes of at least 55% of his bosses …….. the alumni, is nOT doing his jonb.
This time next year, UGA will dismiss CMR. 2010 and 2011 Recruiting be damned. They either want to play in Georgia and in the SEC at UGA or they can leave. Next year, maybe we can hit 4-7. Why not? It does not seem to bother Vandy grads or Duke or NC grads. It IS about the old sheepskin gang.

Don’t blame Fairley because our quarterback got beat up in the Auburn game. Look to the offensive line instead. It is their responsibility to protect him. They should have done that during the game instead of showboating at the end by taking a cheap shot just like Fairley had done earlier.

Well sandman, what do you call it?? Your pitiful little team has gone from SEC contender to SEC pretender to SEC alsoran in what 3 seasons under the coaching(or lack thereof) of CMR. You have had all those “saviors” that became high dollar draft choices, you have had a substantial amount of talent surrounding those draft choices, and this was complimented by some of the best kickers in the NCAA. However, all they have accomplished is to drop from a final ranking of #2 in the BCS after the ‘07 season to unranked, undisclipined, severely undercoached, and possibly unbowled this season. Program in decline??? Yeah, it looks that way. Either that or the SEC has become too tough a conference, making your program right down there with Vandy. Richt has been passed by the likes of Saban, Meyer, Miles, Spurrier, Mullen, Petrino and possibly Dooley(Don’t laugh, if UT can beat Kty. and Vandy, they will be in a bowl, and IF pups lose to GT, they won’t.) Program in decline??? Yep, it appears that way.

Murray is a fine QB. but he is smallish and kinda fragile looking back there. He is a decent runner but he must learn to throw balls away, and slide quicker if he wants to finish his career at UGA without being injured. Given as much time to throw the ball as Cam Newton had against us he would simply slice and dice a team. Not the strongest arm like a Stafford but more accurae from what I’ve seen so far. He’s already hit more receivers in stride on deep balls than Stafford did his 3 years.

I’ll start saying I am a Tech fan. With that out of the way, I’ll also say that I hope next year there is a little more national importance to this game. If we lost Sat, we both come in 5-6. Yuck. Both teams have underachieved their brains out this season.
I also hope Murray is OK. I know his dad – he is a good kid from a great family. He is the real deal, and because of him, I am a closet UGA fan. I wished he had picked another school, because I knew when he picked UGA I’d have to root for you for the next few years.
I think we are both stuck in the same place – underachieving teams, led by the best coached we’ve both had in recent memory. Uncomfortbable place to be.

GT, on the other hand, although not having as good a season as I had hoped for, is definately on an upswing. I do think that CPJ has not done as good a job of coaching this season as he did in ‘08 and ‘09, and if that trend continues, then I would agree that change is needed, but, I believe that this season has been a reloading season, and next year GT will be back to a 9-11 win season. One down season is no reason to fret..

UGA is having a down year and so are several other schools with a great football history. Look no farther than Austin, Texas for the meltdown of 2010. UT gets absolutely every player they want out of Texas so did Mac Brown forget how to coach after the National Championship game with Alabama? Auburn will be a train wreck next year. Who knows about UF? I know that I would hate to have my career determined by what a bunch of 19 to 23 year old guys do. CMR will get this turned around. Murray will be a great QB. We need help on D. Yea, we got the Calvin Johnsons and BeyBey Thomas’s of the world, but next in line were 2-level recruits. CPJ is putting together a solid team, and this year was tough. Our defense is dreadful, but did show improvement throughout the year. It’s the penalties and special teams that have flat out killed us this year, stopping drives and providing good field position for the oppenents etc. CPJ has proven he knows how to coach. How bout number 2 QB coming in a no drop in play…other than through the receivers hands. We just need someone that can catch the 5-10 yarders occssionally. We don’t need the big air plays, just a couple dump pass plays to keep the defense honest. With receivers like Stephen Hill, who couldn’t catch a cold in the hospital, we will never do well! Can’t win if defense doesn’t even respect the pass even a little!

You Dawg fans who keep repeating “30-24″ like a mantra enjoy yourselves all you want. The thing is… Tech alumni and fans have lives that don’t depend entirely on what a bunch of kids does on Saturday afternoons. College sports are fun to follow, but the biggest reason for going to college is to get an education.
UGA fans don’t seem to care about anything but football, and they don’t care if their players are enrolled in silly majors that no parents who are paying the bills would send their kids to UGA for. The very few football and basketball players who graduate have no job opportunities and end up unemployed or working in menial jobs that hardly require a college degree.
Georgia Tech is a real school with serious academic standards, and that includes scholarshipped athletes. UGA has a long history of being a party school, where parents send their kids for an easy degree, even if the degree itself is practically worthless.
Jan Kemp exposed the crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or self-discipline.
The bottom line is that most Tech fans have very good jobs and productive lives that don’t depend on Tech’s football record for their happiness in life. It would be great to beat UGA more often, but when you put scholar-athletes up against dummy-athletes, it’s usually no contest.
It’s pretty pathetic to see UGA fans who typically have never been within miles of a college classroom and who live or die with UGA’s weekly results on the football field.
So keep on posting your “30-24″ all you want, especially since you’re home with plenty of time on your hands. I wish you well, maybe you’ll get lucky and get your old job back at the Waffle House before your unemployment checks stop coming.

Durka Dawg – Jimmy Carter is not a Georgia Tech grad. He had to take some prep courses there to be admitted to the US Naval Academy. However, read the last paragraph.
“After high school, Carter enrolled at Georgia Southwestern College, in Americus. Later, he applied to the United States Naval Academy and, after taking additional mathematics courses at Georgia Tech, he was admitted in 1943.” – from Wikipedia on Jimmy Carter.
His son Jack graduated from Ga. Tech after a couple of years in the Navy. I knew him in electronics school. He got kicked out of the Navy for marijuana use. I don’t often criticize people in the 3rd person, but Jack Carter was an arrogant jerk.

There is a whole lot of stupid on this blog! That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it. Go Dawgs! Go CMR! It takes a really good man to weather a storm of fan lunacy. It seems to me most of the bloggers here are Jacket and Gator fans who delight in tearing down a program with rumors, name calling and baiting. Real Dawg fans seek to build up, support and help the team even when it is down. The Dawgs will get better!

hey dawg wads – congratulations on your top ten ranking. With 22 personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct infractions, y’all are tied with East Carolina, UNLV and Idaho for the 8th most in the country. Be proud and STFU about Fairley.

Murray is ranked 75th or worst QB on 3rd downs, in the 4th quarter, and in the red zone. He’s great when the rpessure’s off, and among the worst when it counts.

Looking forward to seeing who else on the Georgia team has poise at the QB position, Mason, Gray, walk-on? Bring em on, tired of losing, and we all know why Georgia has lost so many games, now don’t we?

Murray’s been indecisive in the pocket all season, man, does he take a lot of sacks, and lose a lot of yards trying to decide what to do or what? Nick Fairley had a field day, while Murray was trying to decide what to do, he almost got knocked out a few times, will the kid EVER learn, this is game 12, throw it quick or run, decide in 3 seconds, or he’s toast.

In the last 4 games, Murray has 20 “rushes” aka sacks, for 19 yards. That’s about 5 sacks a game. That will lose a game every time. Just can’t decide, especially when the pressure’s on (3rd down, 4th qrtr, red zone).

Murray still has another week to heal…so he should be ready; still probly a lil sore, but ready to play. Matson’s gonna be a good one too. Right now he’s our best chance at backup.

To Frankie. It did not matter if Murray took all day to throw or not, Thug Fairley was going to hit him 10 seconds late anyway.

Murray’s completion %/accuracy, goes down dramatically, when the pressure is on.
Completion % ranking among all QB’s in:
1) 4th Qrtr–#83
2) 3rd Down–#76
3) Red Zone–#86
Tired of hearing all the error about how great Aaron Murray is.
Nothing great about the kid, he’s not even average.
When the pressure is on, when it counts, he is terrible.

Murray’s good stats are against the weaker competition.
Let’s break down Murray’s rushing stats:
1) Against unranked teams–4 yards a rush
Against ranked teams–.67 yards a rush
2) Against teams without a winning record–5.5 yards per rush
Against teams with a winning record–1 yard per carry
3) Against NON BCS teams–10 yards a carry
Against BCS teams–2 yards a carry
So don’t be tricked by Murray’s stats.
When the team needs him the most, he chokes.

You are wrong…Murray is not terrible…he has a QB rating of 156.9…that’s good enough for 17th out of all Div1-A QBs…right behind Denard Robinson of Michigan at 16th and a QB rating of 158.2.

Funny how the offensive line did not give up a hit on Murray during any running plays. Everyone that wants to blame the hits on Murray on them should look at the consistantly predictable play calling by Bobo and try to tell me the AU defensive coaches did not know when UGA will pass the ball.. If an OL gives away a pass play or the defensive coaches pick up a pattern of play calling or some little tip that the play will be a pass, then the DL will tee off on the qb. Also if the qb takes too much time to get rid of the ball that makes it more difficult on the OL. Especially since Fairley is would you say a great DL. Give the OL some credit for doing their job 95 percent of the time and give AU credit for doing their job five percent of the time….It is not too hard for a defense to understand that the play will either be a pass or a run. If the play calling is predictable that makes their work easier. Go Bobo!!!!Take Grantham with you!!!!!! Has anyone inquired about talking with our OC about a head job????? I wonder why???
