Green: No decision yet on NFL draft

ATHENS – With A.J. Green widely projected as a top-five NFL draft pick, Georgia’s Nov. 27 game against Georgia Tech could be the junior wide receiver’s last in Sanford Stadium. And unless Georgia wins to qualify for a bowl, it also could be Green’s last as a Bulldog.

Green said Wednesday that he hasn’t decided whether to enter the 2011 NFL draft and that there will be a lot of factors to consider after Georgia’s season is completed.

On one hand, he mentioned the threat of an NFL lockout and his mother’s desire for him to get his college degree. On the other hand, he mentioned the risk of injury if he returns to school for his senior season.

“I’m not going to make that decision right yet,” he said. In the end, he said, “you’ve got to do what is best for you.”

Note: More to come on this. I’m working on a story about players who will be — or might be — playing their final game in Sanford Stadium next week. Another Georgia junior who has a decision to make regarding the 2011 draft is outside linebacker Justin Houston.

Just go AJ.

Man it’s tuff to think we got no rings out of it, but we’re used to it under Mark Richt and Bobo.

Plus, offfffer 3 against Florida.

Mark Richt has turned me in to a casual observer on game day.

It won’t be any different next yr. GA will probably go 9-1 reg season, beat Florida, but loose to Tenn. in Knoxville. Something crazy will happen, Mark Richt will guarantee that.

Your talking about a D-1 coach that started Joe. T. over Matt Stafford and took 2 yrs. to get Moreno on the field.

Thanks AJ for the show

Dawg in Lex, dude don’t you realize all Ga fans would like to see AJ and Houston come back.

THERE NOT.

DID YOU CHECK the cash on the table in the NFL.

You probably thought Stafford and Moreno were coming back.

People act like if you leave school to pursue a dream that you can’t go back. Many athletes do. AJ came to UGA to have an opportunity to play in the NFL. Getting a degree would be a bonus – if not now then later.

Take the money and run. Spend the money like an uneducated fool, take care of your homies and end up filing for bankruptsy. That’s the plan.

By no decision he means he hasn’t decided on what tie to wear to the NFL draft. Face it when he has the chance to make millions he will have a light bulb go off. Calvin Johnson and Bay bay did it at GT. Cant blame any of those kids for doing it. They have to think about what is best for their future. Good luck in two weeks. I think it will be a great game. GT and UGA have the potential to play a solid football game. Problem is neither team has done it much this year. I think better things are in store for both programs next year.

Go Tech play keep-away with the Georgia Offense. Hopefully Johnson will minimize the chances GT hast to play on D. At Navy his D was soft like it is so far at GT this year and he dominated T.O.P. He and midshipmen hold the NCAA record for longest single offensive drive in NCAA history with a 14:26 drive in a bowl game. Point is I think GT can win this game if they take that same strategy to Athens. It puts the fans to sleep and makes the D tired esp later in the game. GT wins this game if they win the TOP battle. If not uga wins.

Personally, I think he should return to the University, get his degree, and give the football back what he took away earlier this season. That would be to man up! He let the team down, he should stand up and make up for his choice earlier.Im just saying, UGA has given him a scholarship, he should stay and say thanks!

Let him go. In fact, this year as head coach, I would have let him go for his stupid, selfish act of selling his jersey. The game readiness mental state of mind of the UGA squad was very negative when he did not play. Apparently, to them, AJ is their guru. Who needs them?

What have most of the UGA defenders done for UGA?? They are no good ………..period.

Kris Durden and Murray and Chapas and Boling and about 4 or 5 others are goigt to be remebered in 5 or 10 years. AJ Green? No ………..if he is remembered, it will be as a thug who sold his jersey and that act hurt his team.

CMR is in this trouble he is in ………..because he puts up with this crap.

I could care less if AJ plays ………….we stomped GT last year w.o. him and w.o. KRIS DURDEN who IS our best wide out. We can whup GT with out AJ so let him go and don’t le the door hit you, AJ. We will ahve our TOP WIDE OUT IN KRIS DURDEN. UGA does not need AJ Green ……….I say boo him loudly at home and let him remember what he did to HURT UGA.
Good riddance AJ Green.

Go Dogs.

OK A J you cheated the Dawgs out of 4 games! If you go pro you will need to repay the Dawg half of your signing bonus. Or wait until next season and go as the # 1 pick. If you play your senior year you can forget about the 4 games. What a deal! GO DAWGS!

Green owes the Bulldog Nation his senior year. He was hurt part of his freshman and sophomore years, then he missed 4 games this year for an ill-advised move. He has yet to play a full year for the Dawgs. I know his decision will based primarily on his family and his future, but I think he owes the Bulldog Nation another year due to his inconsistencies in completing each year. Either way, he’s the best player in the nation!

Wow…to all you people that say AJ Green owes UGA his senior year…GET A FRIGGIN CLUE!!! No athlete owes their school anything if they dedicate their time at that school making themselves a better product for the team. AJ didn’t get paid squat to play for UGA but a scholarship. Once he leaves, UGA no longer pays his scholarship. “Pay for play” is over. Don’t give me this, “he needs to earn his diploma” crap either. You know what a top 10 pick gets paid in bonus alone? $10+ million dollars. That’s more than 97% of the population will make in their ENTIRE lifetime. He can go back to school for the rest of his life and earn as many degrees as he chooses to…if that’s what HE wants. Or he can sit on his butt and get fat enjoying life while living off just the interest on that signing bonus. The point is, it’s his life, and he can do whatever the frick he wants…he doesn’t owe anyone anything. How much has UGA made off that #8 jersey or using him for advertising? I bet you it’s over a hundred times what his scholarship cost. “He owes UGA”…please, give me a break…slavery ended a long time ago…

I am kind of curious here.

We won’t know anything re a lockout next year until well after the draft, correct? Don’t players become ineligible once they opt for the draft, or sign with an agent? Just wondering…

Please stay, A.J. You’ve admitted your wrongdoing and have moved on. (I also agree with “Reality”: He sold a jersey and the NCAA hammered him which is one of the most hypocritical things ever.”)

Now you have unfinished business with the team…and getting your degree. Come back, please!

Cant verify the accuracty of every detail of this story, but I have been able to confirm the McGregor and Victoryland story though. Cam Newton and Family have been tied to Auburn booster Milton McGregor, ower of Victoryland. Who has been recently indicted by the Feds for buying/selling votes on gambling legislation in Alabama. During wipetaps, Feds overheard conversations of Cecil Newton trying to sell his sons services ($250K). Apparently money was funneled through Cam’s uncle in Michigan through PAC and other hidden entities, then filtered down to Cecil Newton. Information was sealed for 6 mos until the Feds could hand down indictments for the gambling issues. Thats why it took so long for the story to break. Once NCAA found out from the FBI, Miss St was contacted to verify is any solicitation occurred. Hence, all this information breaking within the past 2-3 weeks. Not sure if theres any substance to the McGregor and Newton connection, but it all sounds pretty legit.

Let me put it this way… if someone came to you during your junior year marketing class and offered you a $60 million contract for your dream job, you would take it.

Quit being hypocrites just because you’ll never have to make the same decision he will. Anyone who holds out any hope for him to stay is dillusional, and frankly, selfish themselves.

How many former UGA players that live modest (non-TV, radio, professional sports) lifestyles do the fans remember or care about anymore? Don’t criticize him for “not caring enough about the team” when you know good and well you won’t be there to support him for the rest of his life should he fade from stardom.

UGA kept its part of the bargain with AJ; they gave him a first class education and a grand stage upon which he could display his enormous talent. He failed to keep up his part of the bargain which was to keep up his grades and to do everything he could to play within the rules.

HE owes UGA, his teammates and his coaches a season where he abides by the rules and plays his best. His failings this year to play by the rules is no one’s fault but his own. I don’t buy that he made a “poor decision” and he learned his lesson. When he says he has to do what is best for himself, he gives us a 20-20 view of his lack of understanding. He allowed greed to govern his actions. After all he stated he needed “some extra money for Spring break”
so he sold his jersey for $1000.00. He later said he was sorry and that he learned his lesson.

AJ, the only lesson you learned was ” don’t get caught” An amends with no action is empty. Serving a 4 game suspension hurt your family, your teammates, your coaches, and the University. How were you hurt; you’re still a top NFL prospect who can expect a wheelbarrow full of $ when the time comes.
Show your saint of a mother how much her grand influence upon you means and stay at UGA another year and get your degree. Show your teammates that you know how you let them down and interfered with them reaching their goals
on the field of play because of your selfishness. Show your coaches that you acknowledge their dedication and support for you even in the worst of times. Show UGA that you have grown spiritually and that you accept and honor the privilege of playing here and more importantly the glory of learning here.

Spend your final year of eligibility at UGA, fulfill your obigations to family, teamates, coaches, and UGA, and I assure that any plan you formulate and pursue sooner will fall way short of what awaits you the following year.

To Brian Brohm,

It worked out well for everyone else…and you were not going to get big money anyway, probably would not even made a team..so really no risk taken. Again, very few have had career ending injuries so that worry is not legit.
