Dogs practice without Murray; SEC won’t suspend Fairley

Quarterback Aaron Murray didn’t practice Tuesday as Georgia began preparations for its regular-season finale against Georgia Tech. Murray is listed as “day-to-day” with a bruised knee and a bruised sternum, both suffered in last Saturday’s loss at Auburn.

In related news, the SEC said Tuesday that it has decided not to suspend Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley for his controversial hits on Murray. The league plans to handle the matter “internally” with the school.

One hit in particular — a late, helmet-to-the-back blow for which Fairley drew a  penalty in the third quarter –- has drawn much scrutiny this week.

Georgia’s open date clearly comes at a good time for the battered Murray.  The Tech game is on Nov. 27 in Athens.

Coach Mark Richt told the Touchdown Club of Atlanta on Monday, “We think by game time he’ll be able to play.” Richt later said on his radio call-in show, “There is no guarantee he will play in the game, but we’re thinking there’s a good chance he will.”

Tuesday’s practice was closed to the media, and no players or coaches were available for interviews afterward. Georgia said in a news release that Murray did not practice.

“Practice today was a start” in preparing for Tech’s option offense, Richt said in the release. “It’s always tough to simulate their offense. The better job the scout team does, the better chance we have. It wasn’t anything to write home about, but it was a start.”

HeyDawg, I’m glad you’re more knowledgeable about the situation than Auburn’s compliance department. Sure can’t get anything past you, can they?

Dear SEC,

Expect to have mayham on the field like you came close to having in last Saturdays game if you are unwilling to take action against blatant attempts to hurt players on the field. You need to step up and take control while you still have some control. When the refs did nothing in regarding to making a player ineligible to play for an obvious attempt to hurt a qb well the outcome of the game came close to being extemely ugly. The refs in effect lost control. Are you?

THE TRUTH! au has known all bout scam since jan 10. espn usually uga biased thanks to ole man holtz even said fairley was dirty. why is the fbi ivolved you ask?
cause cecil sr. probably laundered the money from au boosters thru his 5 churches which will keep his son cash from the ncaa scope but not the FBI. it is known that he had to have 50K worth of work done to the church he presides over which somehow passed zoning codes this year which is why he asked for 100K.
bottom line aubarns seasons isnt worth spit, but enjoy it while it lasts au its about to be wiped out all because accepting $$ from someone is a NCAA VIOLATION cash will be like bush give back his heisman and AU will have to wipe out this season and face harsher penalties than usc (kiffins boys) will

Boy you Thuga fans are the biggest whimps and crybabies in the country. Instead of realizing your team sucks this year, all you can do is whine about Fairley. Your team is made up of thugs who lead the country in arrests. Hopefully Tech can beat y’all so we don’t have to watch your thugs in a low tier bowl somewhere like Shreveport. Crank up the Soldier Boy and invite Saint Mark over and he can tell you all about how to act like thugs. He’ll explain such techniques like stomping on the other teams logo during the pregame, chop blocking, punching a player in the stomach after the play is over etc. Funny how you fans have condoned all the thuggery while your team was winning but now that you are 5-6, all you can do is whine. Remember, you can’t spell Thuga without UGA!

Vince:

You win one game out of the last five. You have an inferiority complex. You have to recruit dirty players or coach them up to be dirty and your boosters have to bid for Cam Newton all because of your complex which is being from Alabama and getting your BUTT whipped in the previous four games… Hey , maybe win the next 3 years and even the record…

Also did you know they invented the Tooth Brush in Auburn?? anywhere else it would have been called the Teeth Brush….HA!!

Fairley was getting chop blocked all day by uga, and was only called once. They were trying to break his knees, so no wonder he was being aggressive.
If the ‘holier than thou’ georgia fans who are criticizing the SEC and want the rules enforced would like to go back and look at the game film at the end of the game, they will see that when the fight started, 70% of the georgia team LEFT THE SIDELINES, which is AGAINST THE RULES, and is an AUTOMATIC EJECTION FOR THE NEXT GAME. So… go back and see which uga players should be declared ineligible for the Tech game….. this street runs both ways, so either STF up about the SEC, or call them and demand they enforce the bench clearing rule and declare your team ineligible. Hypocrites !

Hey Lee. A chop block is not illegal unless the player being blocked is engaged by another blocker. In othe words it takes two to get a chop block penalty. It can just as easily be a miscommunication as a dirty play.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I feel the SEC front office needs to be investigated as to how decisions are being made. This includes condoning the “turning of heads” by officials, rather than protecting the safety of young men, as well as extreme bias in player suspension decisions. If the integrity of the game is to be preserved, something has got to change. College football in the SEC is looking more like the professional ranks every day when it comes to ethics.

So funny to see the most classless fans (UGA) whine, complain, point fingers and call someone ELSE classless.

Had Georgia won the game, ya’ll wouldn’t even make a peep. But because ya lost, ya gotta cry “foul.”

Hey, thUGA’s:

When you file your whiny protests to the SEC, NCAA and anyone else who will listen to your pitiful moaning and groaning, don’t forget to add the Walter Camp Football Foundation to your list. Seems one of the oldest and most respect award foundations thinks highly of Cam Newton and Nick Fairley.

Funny — I see no thUGA’s on their Top 15 list:

How pathetic is UGA?

Yes, Walter Camp!!!

I’m sure this group knows more about integrity than does UGA:

“The Walter Camp Football Foundation is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA). The NCFAA was founded in 1997 as a coalition of the major collegiate football awards to protect, preserve and enhance the integrity, influence and prestige of the game’s predominant awards. The NCFAA encourages professionalism and the highest standards for the administration of its member awards and the selection of their candidates and recipients.”

Fairley has had two personal fouls called all year so whose fault is that? All UGA had to do was block him……..oh, that’s right, you could not so you try to chop block him. Never heard so much whining in my life. Don’t blame your dismal season on Auburn.

The guy that said he never saw Greg Blue never have a late hit obviously must listen to the games on the RADIO. The one hit everyone is referring to was late, I agree. It’s not like it never happens every Saturday across the country at every level of football. But if a player like Fairly weighs 310 pounds and is running at the QB to make a tackle, because of the law of gravity, where do you expect the two to end up? Think about it!! If you’re standing at the bus stop and someone runs at and through you, you ARE going to be driven to the ground in an unpleasant manner. It’s just common sense. I guess another alternative to tackle is sneak up on the QB from the rear and pull him down on top of ya so the QB can avoid the whiplash by landing on the tackler’s belly.

Fairley is a typical spoiled, no rules, Auburn sh*t – wish we had one guy on the dawgs D who was as fierce and fired up as he. This is all on the refs – they sucked. Never called a penalty to slow this mess down until it was too late and now Murray is on the sidline.

Also – shame on the “senior laden” O line for GA – absolutely the biggest disappointment of the season. SEC football is won in the trenches and we ain’t won there in 5 long years.

Hit them back. As CPJ said, “punch them in the face”. UGA is more talented than Auburn and 10 times more talented then GT. The don’t have any meaness to them. Every time since Van Gorder has left that someone hits them in the mouth they look to ref for help and go into the fetal position. Tech’s only hope to stay in the game is to play down and dirty with them and make them want to quit.
