Quarterback Aaron Murray didn’t practice Tuesday as Georgia began preparations for its regular-season finale against Georgia Tech. Murray is listed as “day-to-day” with a bruised knee and a bruised sternum, both suffered in last Saturday’s loss at Auburn.
In related news, the SEC said Tuesday that it has decided not to suspend Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley for his controversial hits on Murray. The league plans to handle the matter “internally” with the school.
One hit in particular — a late, helmet-to-the-back blow for which Fairley drew a penalty in the third quarter –- has drawn much scrutiny this week.
Georgia’s open date clearly comes at a good time for the battered Murray. The Tech game is on Nov. 27 in Athens.
Coach Mark Richt told the Touchdown Club of Atlanta on Monday, “We think by game time he’ll be able to play.” Richt later said on his radio call-in show, “There is no guarantee he will play in the game, but we’re thinking there’s a good chance he will.”
Tuesday’s practice was closed to the media, and no players or coaches were available for interviews afterward. Georgia said in a news release that Murray did not practice.
“Practice today was a start” in preparing for Tech’s option offense, Richt said in the release. “It’s always tough to simulate their offense. The better job the scout team does, the better chance we have. It wasn’t anything to write home about, but it was a start.”

Ok, I thought so. I’ll turn out the light. But remember: AU’s season is nullified. There’s no reason for the AU fans to continue cheering and carrying on like they used to. If you’re an AU fan that has been effected by these events, just jump to another team or simply lay off football for about five years. There’s no need to keep doing what you’ve been doing, I mean what’s the point? So just move along and it’ll be over in an indeterminate amount of time. Bye now.

While in the midst of fighting off payola accusations, Auburn has a marquee game on national TV and uses it to showcase the dirtiest player seen in years. Now the story’s gone from an image of dirty off-the-field shenanigans to dirty, cheap-shot football on the field. What’s next to soil Auburn honor? Or maybe the question is, “What’s left?” Auburn’s PR guy must think he’s died and gone to hell.

Chizek is the culprit here. Did you see his behavior on the sidelines during the game? Totally unprofessional. If Auburn wants to win that bad, it does not speak well of the school or its fan base. Organizations take on the personality of the leader. Soldiers imitate the behavior of their commander. The unsportsmanlike conduct of the Auburn team as a whole is learned behavior that comes from it’s leader: Gene Chizek, UF graduate Class of 85 I believe…. Auburn will wind up getting an NCAA suspension with Chizek at the helm…

I can’t believe the SEC didn’t suspend Fairley. What message does that send to the other schools? “Protect yourselves, because the league isn’t going to?” This will only lead to some form of retaliation. Auburn needs to review their standard of conduct. Between Fairley and Newton, they seem to be in a “win at any cost” mode.

Auburn is the last chance the SEC has for a team in the BCS championship game. Thats why Fairley is not getting suspended. The shot to the back and the grinding of the facemask were enough to get a guy suspended. You would think anyways.

Long time Dog ticket holder…Fairley would’ve been fine for his hits in the NFL, but the NCAA does not consider them rulebreakers. So…..if we don’t want Murray to be driven into the turf, we might try blocking someone. This team, and this O line, has underachieved so long I am tired or watching them. We either badly missed recruiting, or we have badly missed coaching them. I may tend to go with the latter.

The SEC is concerned more about earning money than protecting its athletes. Their thinking is: “If we suspend Nick Fairley then Auburn might lose to Alabama and won’t be able to represent us in the National Championship.”

Fairly is a psychopath who was deliberate in his efforts to injury Murray. Late hits, shoulders into the chest when tackling and then the blind Vern Lundquist also pointed out that Fairly’s facemask locked with Murray’s due to the impact.
He and his fellow barn dwelling thug, Cam Newton are what they are. One hit wonders who will take the program to the death penalty when it is all said and done.
Chizik is a gook who stunk at ISU and once these guys are gone, you will be focused on winning national ping pong championships and striving to be the academic equivalent to Jacksonville State.
Best of luck Tigers. Enjoy it while you can – the fun is almost OVER!

Just a thought here from a moderate sec football fan living in atlanta…all this talk about if he were in the NFL this that and the other is confusing as heck. If this were the NFL, then you’d need two feet in bounds for a catch…exactly. It’s not he nfl and no play called for fines or suspensions. This trail is exhausting. Wonder how uga fans will take it when GT stomps on the G logo at midfield pregame like the georgia players did at auburn.

This past week Nick Fairley put what I feel is a dangerous hit on Georgia’s quarterback hitting him square on the back while leading with his helmet; something the NFL has been quick to regulate this year. Many in the media have called for at least a one game suspension for this but yesterday the SEC associate commissioner Charles Bloom sent the wrong message deciding “we’re handling the matter internally with the institution.” In stating this they have told young Fairley the appropriate punishment for the crime of putting someone’s carrier at risk is what was called at the time 15 yards and an automatic first down. So the SEC has chosen apathy in order to protect their end of year payoff. They realize suspending Fairley from the next football game would mean suspending him from the Alabama game which, should Auburn lose, the SEC may be accused of having a hand in not only the outcome of that game, but also the championship matchup, and may even prevent two SEC schools from getting BCS Bowl invitations. This would ammount in a huge loss of income to the SEC. To me this stinks of the SEC doings what’s best for the SEC not what’s best for protecting the players who have made the SEC the top conference in college football. Oregon suspended LeGarrette Blount for eight games after one intentional hit on another player, how many cheap shots does Fairley have to land to get something similar?

The hit that bothered me more than the spearing to the back was the blow to the knees. I have watched trhe video several times and I am convinced that unFairley had to purposefully incline his head and neck to strike Murray. There were other time sin the game where he aimed for Murray’s knees.

Wow – dawgs upset with the God Almighty SEC – the only place in the world that plays real football??? Losing really brings out your inner wimp doesn’t it? Maybe you should consider changing to a conference more in keeping with your traditions and customs, like maybe the Texas prison league. Everyone else knows there are 3 Professional conferences, the AFC, the NFC, and the SEC. The only difference is there is no crying in baseball, only in Athens.
Here’s a stat for you from the SEC Office. YTD PENALTIES-Yards (UGA) 61-500 (Opponents) 55-407 . Oh wait that’s just teh biased SEC officials. Oh well.

The $EC did the same thing that they have been doing for the last few years and that’s to do a very fine job of protecting any team that’s in position for a BC$ championship.
When was the last time a controversial call decided a SEC game in the final minutes, it’s to numerous to count, when was the last time one of these calls went against any $EC team that may be in position for a BC$ MNCG. Who could name one?
It’s sad to say but the $EC cares more about insuring it has a team in the MNCG than integrity or sportsmanship or NCAA rules or even the safety of a young man trying to play the game the way that it’s supposed to be played.

Just one more nail in coffin…to follow-up on Coach Cheeze-it’s comment, I think we’re gonna find out sooner rather than later that ‘you are who we think you are’. You say ‘that’s not who you are…we say bullsh8t.’
The truth will out on this whole sorry episode soon enough – probably before the BCS decides who plays in the NC – plus if there is any justice, AU will have already been beaten by Alabama and SC – and what happens to Mr. Fairley will just become a footnote to the whole sorry mess.

What amazes me is the energy these Bulldog fans spend railing on and on about Fairley. Okay, he had a cheap shot in the back. I’m not going to defend Fairley on his 3rd quarter hit, but the others were just good hard play. Maybe the linemen should block a little better. But for arguments sake, let’s say that he was dirty at times, what about all the personal fouls against the Dawgs in the game? Oh forgot about those? What about the fact that it was 42-10 in the last three quarters? Maybe you Bulldog fans should be worrying about your porous offensive line and the fact that your defense got used like a cheap hooker!
