Quarterback Aaron Murray didn’t practice Tuesday as Georgia began preparations for its regular-season finale against Georgia Tech. Murray is listed as “day-to-day” with a bruised knee and a bruised sternum, both suffered in last Saturday’s loss at Auburn.
In related news, the SEC said Tuesday that it has decided not to suspend Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley for his controversial hits on Murray. The league plans to handle the matter “internally” with the school.
One hit in particular — a late, helmet-to-the-back blow for which Fairley drew a penalty in the third quarter –- has drawn much scrutiny this week.
Georgia’s open date clearly comes at a good time for the battered Murray. The Tech game is on Nov. 27 in Athens.
Coach Mark Richt told the Touchdown Club of Atlanta on Monday, “We think by game time he’ll be able to play.” Richt later said on his radio call-in show, “There is no guarantee he will play in the game, but we’re thinking there’s a good chance he will.”
Tuesday’s practice was closed to the media, and no players or coaches were available for interviews afterward. Georgia said in a news release that Murray did not practice.
“Practice today was a start” in preparing for Tech’s option offense, Richt said in the release. “It’s always tough to simulate their offense. The better job the scout team does, the better chance we have. It wasn’t anything to write home about, but it was a start.”

Just a question. Why is it that every school other than UGA has classless fans. I guess you guys never say or write anything out of line? And I don’t even cheer against Georgia. I am jut not a fan.

Say all you want- we havn’t learned how to finish yet is the only problem (which is a big problem) USC and AU are the only teams that beat us on the field the rest of the games we beat ourselves. We need to get some “finish the drill” back in our game (a couple more players with heart wouldnt hurt either). If we are not in the SEC Shampionship game next year we have to look at making some changes,

Go back and look at the whole game. UGA players were playing just like the AU players. Hardnosed football. Nothing dirty about it until the UGA players attacked Fairly at the end of the game. Got their butts kicked, didn’t like it and started jumping on Nick. I hate that AU players defending themselves got ejected but I’m proud they stood up for their teammate. UGA got beat fair(ley) and squarely. Quit whining.

I am appauled at the SEC’s lack of responsible action towards the safety and integrity of college football. After review, Fairley should have been suspended immediately! What would it have taken to warrant a suspension, a career ending or possible life ending injury? At a time when the NFL is acting swiftly and valianty to curtail serious injuries and to instill in players of the game a sense of concern for the health and safety of their brethren players, the SEC and NCAA has fallen short. This is the dirtiest football that I have ever seen played and to ignore it taints the sport. Fairley’s actions were malicious and premeditated. If we remember, in the previous game, Murray injured his chin. Fairley went straight for that injury with the intent of reopening the wound with his facemask. This alone should warrant suspension. When a judge presides over a court case, the most determining factor is intent and the intent was there. The continued late hits to Murray should have painted an even more vivid picture of that intent. The SEC’s failure to act on this matter exemplifies the same lack of action by the officials that “created” the chaos on the field. The SEC could easily have nipped this in the bud, but instead they have “created” a very hostile environment among true fans and I feel strongly that there will be further repercussions down the road.

The funny thing is NO ONE is looking out for Fairley. The SEC doesn’t care if he carries a knife on the field as long as it has a rep at the national championship game. This means he’ll think it’s okay when he goes to the next level, and the NFL will boot him out within 3 years. He’ll be on the streets and Slive will be giggling in his mansion.

There are personal fouls and then there are personal fouls.
He played a filthy game. His coaches condoned it by allowing it to happen and the refs were pathetic.
There is no excuse for taking your facemask and rubbing into a players throat or driving your helmet into the back of the QB LONG after the ball had left his hand.
For Auburn people to defend this conduct is at best ‘poor form’…

I admit it was a bad hit and bush league but he also got chopped blocked bad by Ben Jones in the 1st qter, always like our rivalry and the end of the game was poor for both teams. I know right now you guys think AU is dirty but we don’t have many personal fouls for the year compared to the majorty of the SEC. Fairley is actually a big teddy bear, but when he is on the field he is a monster. I hope Murray is okay and good luck against the Jackets. I thought the “code red” ordered by Richt at the end of the game was okay as well, its like baseball you deck our guys we will deck yours…

Next year lets all wear flags and play flag football. We won’t keep score either because somebody could get their feelings hurt.
Come on, quit whining. This is the best rivalry in college football. Better than AU-UAt. Auburn takes a lot of players from Georgia and there are going to be lingering feelings from high school championship games between these guys. They play to win. They hit hard.
Oh yeah, AU goes to the NC game because they are the best, not because Slive said so.

It’s not just UGA’s QB we are talking about. This kid has been hammering QB’s into the ground all season. Check out LSU’s QB Lee or Arkansas QB Mallet. He has hurt multiple QB’s with these kind of hits. Yes, chop blocks are dirty but if the refs are not going to call fouls on this kid I would take the 15 and blow this jerks knee out!

This year also reminds me so much of the “Soulja Boy” blackout game a couple of years ago..I was at both, UGA was not going to lose that game and AU wasn’t going to lose Saturday. Au bitched for weeks about all the dancing and chippy hits by uga and now this from UGA. AU is just the better team this year like UGA was a couple of years ago…just my thoughts, fire away…

That’s the sad thing. Auburn is more than talented enough to make the national championship game by playing hard but clean. Fairley’s a beast, a heckuva defender. He doesn’t have to hit late or play dirty, but for some reason, that’s his modus operandi.
And for that reason, I find myself pulling for Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier in consecutive games. I keep waiting for a lightning bolt to strike me dead for even entertaining thoughts of pulling for those two.

We live in SC and when AU played Clemson they talked about Fairley and how dirty he was but I didn’t see the game so I didn’t know what type of play they were talking about. You can add Clemson fans to the ones in the SEC who think he is dirty. It is a shame that the SEC won’t punish the refs for letting the game get out of hand and Fairley for his play. The NFL will fine him next year if he keeps it up but hopefully he doesn’t take a QB out like what happened to the Rutgers player. He is dirty and it is not a secret.

I don’t place the blame on our offensive line for allowing Thug Fairley to hit Murray. All the hits were about 15 seconds after the plays had ended. The sorry refs are the ones that can stop that and they cowed down (something Auburn is used to). The SEC should have taken action and suspended the Thug for the remainder of the season. I hope Bama breaks his legs.

OK Auburn fans. I know you’ve been ignoring the allegations, but it’s as simple as this: When Cam’s father asked for money from Miss. State, which he has admitted and Miss. State has confirmed that he did, Cam became ineligible to play for any team in any sport. So smack talk all you want, but I got the mother of all smackdowns for yall: You are playing with an ineligible player. Your season is fake and has no merit. I don’t think it could get any worse than that.

What did you expect from the Barn side of the SEC?
Slive has no backbone. Only$$$$$$$ signs.
Will be embarrassing for the Barn when everything’s vacated, wins and trophies.
That is if they make it through the Bama game in one piece.
Something tells me the SEC officiating crew for the iron bowl will see to it that an undefeated Barn will represent the SEC in the BCS.
