Georgia’s open date comes at a good time for quarterback Aaron Murray.
Murray might miss some practice time this week because of knee and chest injuries but is expected to play in the Bulldogs’ next game Nov. 27 against Georgia Tech, coach Mark Richt told the Touchdown Club of Atlanta on Monday.
“He’s beat up pretty good, actually,” Richt said in a speaking engagement that was streamed on the Internet.
Richt said “luckily there is no structural damage” to Murray’s left knee, which took a shot from Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley’s helmet late in Saturday’s game.
“It was more just a blow to the knee, to the bone, and it’s bruised up pretty good,” Richt said. “I think he’s going to be fine.”
Richt said Murray also suffered “a pretty deep bruise in his chest” against Auburn.
Officially, Georgia director of sports medicine Ron Courson lists Murray as “day-to-day” with knee and sternum bruises.
Georgia will hold its first practice of the week Tuesday, and Richt was uncertain whether Murray will participate.
“We’ll see how he handles it, if he’s able to throw the ball,” Richt said. “We think by game time he’ll be able to play, but right now practice is day-to-day.”
UPDATE: Asked about Murray’s status on his radio call-in show Monday night, Richt put it this way: “There is no guarantee he will play in the game, but we’re thinking there’s a good chance he will.” Richt said the bruised sternum “is probably bothering [Murray] the most right now.”
Both Saturday night and Sunday, Richt declined to comment about Fairley’s hits on Murray in Auburn’s 49-31 victory. But the coach did make a fleeting reference to the issue in his remarks to the Touchdown Club.
“I thought offensively we blocked No. 90 [Fairley] pretty good most of the game,” Richt said. “There were some times he did get free. Sometimes he got free a little bit late, but he did get free.”
Murray, a redshirt freshman, has 2,580 yards passing this season — the third most all-time for an SEC freshman. He has thrown 21 touchdown passes and six interceptions — “a tremendous ratio for any quarterback, even if you’re a veteran,” Richt said.

Georgia’s A.J. Green was named Monday as one of 10 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award, which goes to college football’s top receiver each year. The field will be reduced to three finalists on Nov. 22 and the winner named on Dec. 9.
Green has 41 catches for 674 yards and nine touchdowns this season despite missing the first four games while on NCAA suspension for selling his Independence Bowl jersey for $1,000. He had nine catches for 164 yards and two touchdowns against Auburn.

And we all know that Trisha, but I consider it a win, because had said cheater not played you would have gotten killed like normal. But like I said its cool, I don’t count it as a loss, since your team is going to have that win vacated. AND I will sit here and laugh my a** off when it does. Vacated Win for AU = UGA fans laughing a**es off at AU = Win in my books.

Trisha, why is it that you feel the need to talk smack to a fan base that had OWNED your Tigers for 4 years straight. Auburn hadn’t beaten GA since 2005. We’re a little bothered by the fact that we lost the game. I seem to recall Auburn fans complaining and whining about losing to UGA after the games in 06, 07, 08, and 09. Cut us some slack….we’re disappointed. In case you hadn’t noticed, things aren’t exactly peachy in Athens these days with a 5-6 record.

@sheesh, I never said the schools and older Alumni didn;t consider it a big rivalry, It just never seemed that big to us(at least to me and my friends). In 2004 I remember UGA fans trashtalking a lot..before the thumping.. And TENN fans talking lots of trash before and after thumping #1..but not so much after thumping #2, which was in the Dome.

Auburn was the better team offensively for this game. The onside kick should have been covered (stupid) and the touchdown (?) that was fumbled into the endzone were the difference. Their defense was predicated on Fairley getting to the QB before he threw the ball, because nobody else was stopping Green. But it didn’t matter that he didn’t get there before Murray threw the ball, b/c his a$$ was coached to hit him no matter what. Two things could have stopped that crap – his coaches or the referees – but neither did. It’s dirty play like that the ends up causing the disgraceful end of the game. I hope a tape of his antics is provided to SEC officiating – to let them see what the referees were letting slide. Murray is lucky to be standing today – deeply bruised chest, knee, and cut chin – i guess that’s what happens when 300 lbs of uncontrolled mush and plastic come rolling down hill. And Fairley is lucky he didn’t get a serious retaliatory injury of his own. I really don’t like when games are played dirty – its already dangerous – it doesn’t have to be played the way Fairley does.

UGA not a main rival, really? Sounds to me like someone didn’t actually attend AU.
There is a reason it’s called the deep south’s oldest rivalry
Do you even read? AU officials said they didn’t have any suspects in the burning of Toomer’s Corner and that Auburn usually experiences the toilet paper getting lit on fire once a year. Last time I checked the UGA-AU game is played home and home. Maybe some of those classy AU that booed an injured player lit their own “monument to greatness” on fire. But then again I ‘m sure the Fairley followers are to classy for that. Taint that right?

Thank God for Murray and AJ Green. The UGA offense would be non-existent without them.
The UGA defense just plain sux.
Hike the ball to Newton, Newton will run. That’s the Auburn game plan 90% of the time… give ball to Newt, see Newt run. YET,the UGA still can’t do a thing about it although they know what’s coming.
Pitiful. Just plain pitiful.

Trisha: seriously you never considered the GA a big rivalry? Come on! I have tons of friends that are Auburn Alum, and it is the 2nd buggest to them. Maybe it is bigger to the Auburn kids that are from GA than the ones from Bama. I can definitely see that. Also, just know that we GA fans love our team just like you love your Tigers. We’re a program that is struggling right now (just as Auburn was not so long ago), but mark my words…UGA will be back. That’s a fact.

For 2 days you Georgia fans have been crying about dirty play, when in FACT, it was Georgia who set the tone by doing the Richt allowed stomping on the other team’s logo. (which says A LOT about Richt’s lack of character and moral fiber) Then on the first play UGA gets a personal foul. It seems to me that UGA wanted a fight, and when they got it they wanted to cry. I don’t blame Auburn, who I hate by the way, for slapping the dogs around like the lap-dogs they are. Seems to everyone outside of Athens that UGA got exactly what they wanted and deserved.

I have never hated Auburn like I do Florida, after last Saturday, I have now elevated Auburn to the “Fla. List” Someone tell me why their coach had his starters on the field trying to score on us with 2;30 left/ They had the game won, this guy just moved into the Spurrier range as a coach with me. Auburn is a “one trick poney” Newton, when he moves to the NFL next year they will revert back to being Auburn, losing to Georgia.

Fairley is the dirtiest player in recent memory and a low-class punk. As are the Auburn coaches who condone his dirty play. I look forward to seeing Fairley taken off the field on a cart when someone shreds his knee in rightful retaliation.

Fairley blind side helment hit on Dawgs QB was the worst, dirty, low life hit I have ever seen. SEC what are you going to do? Fairley needs to be fined, suspended and given 50 lashes with a leather whip. I want to be the one to impose the punishment to that low life, dirt. Dawgs coach can’t say must but I will. Go Bama. Hope you get one of those knee’s of Fairley or both. Go Bama. You must stop that cheater, stealer and low life for Auburn’ QB. He may give you a laptop for going easy.

Bet if the CURRENT student bodies were polled, @ UGA, AU would rank just below FL for SEC rivals and @ AU, UGA would rank right below ‘Bama. And as for the TON of kids who play for AU who are from the State of Georgia, UGA would trump even ‘Bama. I’ve heard them say it.
If the rivalry isn’t so big–AS WE SPEAK, then why are there so many Auburn people on here? I don’t even recall that many Carolina posts–but then substantive history is very recent there (ouch!)

Just want to say as a Dawg fan since 1978, ……..ROLL TIDE. Auburn fans had no class. They booed a 17 year UGA commit who visited AUB. They may be getting a little too much ego for one good season.
I was on the field with the recruits at last year’s game in Athens, and I can tell you, ALL fans cheered ALL recruits with the hopes of changing some minds—no one booed a 17 year old.
I have never said this before about a college player, but after watching the WWE acting Fairley did (with a coach high fiving him after hitting AM below the kne)e, I hope Bama PUTS HIM OUT OF THE GAME

No wonder UGA is 5-6!!
Hey – if the refs are not calling it – all is fair. Look how UGA beat the crud out of Hawaii’s QB a few years ago – pile dirved that kid back to Hawaii. A complete beat down – with several hits after he threw the ball – UGA was after him!
Well – Auburn’s dline was after Murray. If you have any issues – blame your Oline. If our guy hit late – then throw a flag. IF the refs are not throwing flags – then the players will still play hard, hit hard, and hit as late as they can.
What a bunch of wussies!!

So MURRAY will Play, but the question is WHAT ABOUT all the UGA players that threw PUNCHES, Jumped Fairley, and Rushed the field? I thought RICHT and all the crying wanted players to ALL Play By The Rules!!!!
Show how classy U R Christian RICHT and Suspend your players that broke the RULES. Make the DAWG NATION HAPPY and show you are the CLASS ACT they think you are and Holdout all the players that should be. Come on UGA FANS don’t whine more STAND-UP for the RULES you are crying about. Ben Jones, Cord Glenn, Ealey, Boling and more than I can name should be out for the GAME.Please UGA fans JUSTIFLY why your RULE BREAKERS should be allowed to play. Forget “FAIRLEY” for a minute and just say why your Rule Breakers should be let off.
Well, “lil Johnny did it so I should be able to do it too” will not work. It Didn’t work when you told your parents the same so please don’t use but “FAIRLEY” did it.
UGA fans have been justiflying the Dawg Players actions for 4 years so I don’t expect a good reason why their players should play other than THE DAWGS don’t believe the Rules Apply to them.

The game is over so after this blog let’s stop the whining. Mr Fairley was not disciplined by the SEC officials for unneccessary roughness for imitating a WWE wrestler doing body slams. This is not unusual for the SEC not to punish the front runners bedause too much money is involved in the NC game. Auburn is realisticaly the only SEC team to have a shot at playing in the game so they are protected and all close calls are going their way such as the onside kick that was touched by the Auburn player reaching back after the ball had only gone nine yards. The ball has to go ten yards and not the player as it was in this case. The other close call was the fumble by cam near the goalline that was called a touchdown. Reverse these two calls and add at least two more personal fouls and an ejection on Mr un Fairley for spearing and the results could and probably would have been different. The SEC loves the money and refused to look into the Cam mess because of being afraid of what it would find. I was pulling for Auburn to beat Alabama but not anymore. Lets hope the Tide can spoil the leagues conspiracy by whipping the tigers. Think the conspiracy theory is a bit much? Look at the way Fla was protected in the last few years and really think about it. Money talks…. Have a great day.

The hit on Murray’s knee was deliberate. You can see Fairley pulls his head back towards Murray’s knee as he (Fairley) is going down.
