Richt: ‘I thought that if we ran another play things could get out of hand’

Excerpts from Georgia coach Mark Richt’s postgame news conference:

Opening comments: “Congratulations to Coach Chizik and Auburn. They clinched their opportunity to play in Atlanta in the SEC Championship. I know the feeling, and it’s a great feeling. They’ve done a great job this season and did a great job tonight. They were a better team than us tonight. We certainly had our moments, but they weren’t enough to win. They’re a very good football team and I want to give them credit.”

On Auburn’s on-side kick to open the second half: “We alerted [the players] at the half. The dilemma for our special teams is if they sit at the tee and watch the ball too long when all those guys are flying down the field at 100 miles an hour and they’re supposed to get in position to block, they can’t make the block. Auburn’s kickoff coverage team was one of the bigger differences in the game. And with them getting the on-side kick to start the second half and take the lead . . . we were hoping to get the ball first and put them in a position to be behind. We didn’t get good field position off our kickoff returns, and their kickoff coverage team tonight was the best we’ve played all season.”

On biggest differences in the game: “We just couldn’t stop them. That was the biggest difference. We didn’t continue to score, and that’s all there is to it. Auburn was very efficient in what they were doing on offense. It’s very difficult to stop a quarterback who can run like that. The only way to outnumber a run game like that is to bring both safeties to the line of scrimmage. When you do that, he throws the ball too well. Cam (Newton) is a true dual threat and a tough kid. They have other good players that played well today, but he’s the difference.”

On Auburn playing well despite the week’s distractions: “As a coach and for players, when you go to practice and the meeting room and you’re in your complex, it’s kind of a haven for you. It’s a place where you can focus on the task at hand. When you’re surroundedby guys focused on the same task it’s a good medicine. When there are things swirling around that youcannot control, you have a chance to enjoy playing the game you love.”

On Georgia’s decision to take a knee on the last play of the game: “The reason why I did that was that tempers were flaring and were out  of hand. I thought that if we ran another play things could get out of hand. My goal was to take the knee and make sure nothing broke out. When things get that hot and that emotional, I thought it was the wise thing to do.”

Your story on the problems at the end of the game fails to mention that Fairley was blocked into Murray and then targeted by the whole UGA O line on the next play. Or that he was chop blocked at least twice. It also fails to mention that the UGA sideline came onto the field. Oh, but you do mention that two Auburn guys threw “punches.” Journalism? Please. I guess you are counting on either only UGA homers reading this, or folks who didn’t actually see the game.

Chizik certainly got his players into the hurtin mood with all his hoppy, fist pumping sideline theatrics. But be clear, Auburn didn’t win because Cam gets paid – they won because he is a great player, regardless of their level of class.

Auburn’s Number 90 repeatedly roughed Murray by hitting the quarterback after he had released passes. He also tried to injure Murray by driving him into the ground after initially hitting him late on at least three ocassions. This illegal behavior should be dealt with by the SEC before the Alabama game. The refs should be sanctioned for not calling the obvious fouls. Auburn’s # 90 is the dirtiest player that I have seen this season…and that is saying a lot in this era of poor sportsmanship in college football. Auburn should be ashamed of this thug.

Georgia also had several players that showed poor sportsmanship (including # 18 and # 60) with no control of temper tantrums. This type of behavior shows a lack of discipline on the team that has contributed to several of the loses this season. This lack of discipline has been the major issue not addressed by coaches at UGA. It may even have been provoked by the poor examples that coaches (Grantham at Florida) have been.

I had assumed if Auburn won this game I would pull for them the rest of the year so the SEC is represented in the BCS title game, but I don’t want anyone seeing the classless bunch of cheaters as a representation on anything from the south.

This loss won’t stand anyways because after they finish their investigation the will be a wasted year for Auburn.

Fairly is a dirty player who was taking cheap shots at Murray the whole game.He has been warned for driving QB’s into the ground already this year. To say that he was “blocked” into Murray is a stratch to say the least. He had to keep driving his legs just to reach him. Gene Chizik better enjoy his little moment in the sun, because he may forfeit every game Cam-the-Sham Newton played in. Newton is an academic cheater and petty thief and his father is a two-bit con artist. Auburn doesn’t deserve to represent the SEC anywhere. I hope South Carolina sends them to the Outback Bowl.

Make no mistake, auburn is the better team, and should have won easily. The hit that knocked Murray out wasn’t that bad, he was somewhat engaged with a blocker, so i will give him a pass on that. The retaliation attempt by Ga was because of the cumulative sum of dirty play by 90 the entire game which the referees refused to do anything about. He should have been called for at least 3 additional personal fouls that were not called. 2 for late hits after Murray threw, and 1 for the body splash on Murray when the play was over early in the game.

The Dawgs played it tough for 3 full qtrs against a very talented team and player. It was a closer game than the score indicated. That said – Chizik showed about as much class as a frog turd and I believe once it is all said and done Auburn will once again be on NCAA probation. The father has already admitted to talking about selling his son for money – the only question now is whether the NCAA / FBI will tie him and his son together in this sordid tale and thus deal with Cam and the Aunburn football program. How dirty is this kid to get kicked out of Florida? . Laptops theft, traffic and court violations, and academic fraud – is this the kind of athlete we would want representing UGA? Not now, not ever….we have a good team going through a rough year – I am proud of the way they have fought and been competitive and isn’t that what I heard ALL YEAR LAST YEAR? “GEE, I DON’T MIND LOSING SO MUCH BUT I WANT US TO BE COMPETITIVE”? Well, this bunch has played tough and fought through tons of adversity – and we don’t have a consumate thug leading our team and dragging the university through the grime – I can say I’m proud of these Dawgs – losing a football game is not fun but it’s a game and a game is supposed to have core values you respect and learn from. At the end of the day I respect Coach Richt and the Dawgs – I have little respect for the way Chizik handled himself on the sideline or for his decision to play a thug who at the least should have been benched for just the no show court violation in Florida. But as we see, for some winning at any cost is the only credo – all Chizik has done is make Cam Newton believe that as long as he plays and wins a game he is totally unaccountable for anything off of the field – good luck with that approach coach – we will see what it reaps of you down the road. Now let’s go put an a** whooping on those nasty bugs!

Here’s the big difference between Georgia and Auburn: When it was rumoured that Green was part of an NCAA investigation, Richt sat Green for the first four games, and lost those first four. When Newton is part of an investigation, yall suit him up and play him and hope for the best. Auburn football is classless and the guys on ESPN even echoed this point. I expected Auburn to beat us- they clearly have the superior team this year. I had been hoping that they would win the NC for the SEC, and I had been giving Newton the benefit of the doubt. You guys really take a loss hard, huh? A) Auburn has done everything the SEC and NCAA asked them to do, since January. B) Fairley was being chop blocked all night… you expect him to be an angel. C) Rambo was taking shots at the Auburn receivers since the first quarter (Remember the Personal Foul?) D) Your bench cleared, one player dragging a coach across the field, and you call Chizek classless… when his players stayed on their respective sideline? Come on guys! Your team led the NCAA last year in personal fouls and you had more in this game than we did. Your team leads the NCAA in number of player arrests. How can you all sit there and say Auburn is classless? Oh, I know! That’s the only way you can justify losing another game. Don’t blame your sorry team! Green is the only reason you moved the ball anyway, he’s gone next year. Another 6 loss season on the horizon.

Give Auburn credit for the win.

As far as the Auburn player on defense (90) playing dirty, I have to say that is a TRUE statement. The sad part is that the TV announcers stated during the broadcast that the league officials were notified of his tactics tackling QB’s by driving them into the ground. That being said, I fault the league for not setting an example by informing ALL coaches that the described technique is illegal and will not be tollerated.

I can understand the satisfaction that the Auburn players must have felt finally ddefeating UGA as a senior class. What I do not agree with is their level of “Thug” mentality associated with the victory.

We have to many players participating in college atheletics that are not students. They are only there participating in hopes of playing in the NFL to obtain a large contract.

I do not watch the NFL games for that reason. Thugs that are over paid. Thugs that have no class or sportsmanship.

College footbal is now reaching the same level of disrespect and is full of thugs!

This is Chizik’s fine all american young man…… If the cheating deal is true and Fla was getting ready to kick him out then that is just more proof of what type person he is. I used to live above Rocky’s Pizza on Clayton when I was in school at UGA. One night after a tough loss to the War Eagles, er Tigers, or whatever they call themselves, there was a group of Auburn fans below my window whooping it up at about 4 AM. I remember I took this half-eaten hot-dawg, with all the toppings one could put on it, and dropped it right on the head of one of the Auburn fans. I mean, there was mustard and relish all over this guys head and all down his shirt. Needless to say, those fans dispersed pretty quickly because I had a gallon of milk ready to after the hot-dawg, and threatened them with it if they didn’t go somewhere else. Ah, fond memories of my time in Athens, and of dropping that hotdawg on the obnoxious Auburn fan. They always love coming over to Athens for the games, one of the few times they get to experience a real college town. If those poor fans would have studied a little harder in high school, they could have went to UGA.

November 14th, 2010

With kids attending UGA and Auburn, and in attendance at Jordan-Hare, I had a different perspective on last night’s game. I saw a UGA team that played hard and made a game of it during the first half, but as 10-previous opponents had failed to do during this season, UGA was unable to withstand Auburn’s running game and came-up short. You can say what you want about late hits on QBs and cheap shots, but they were happening all night in the trenches on both sides. The game they play is a contact sport. QBs get hit and some of them are occasionally late. It is up to the officials to make that call. It is obvious that the refs didn’t think they were late. Let’s just chalk-up last night’s end-of-game fireworks to the fact that this is the oldest rivalry in the SEC, with two teams that genuinely don’t like each other, recruit the same high school talent, and just strapped it on and got after it for 60-minutes. Nothing more… Nothing less… As I said to my UGA daughter after last night’s game, I was extremely impressed with Murray. The kid is going to be a great QB at Georgia. The 2-TD passes he threw to AJ Green in the first half, along with strikes he was throwing to UGA receivers all night long were just a glimpse of the bright future Georgia has for the next 3-years. The bottom line is that AU had too many weapons last night and the best team won. If Newton doesn’t come back next year, I suspect the outcome will be different when they meet again in Athens in 2011.

Mike,

That is the truest statement I have heard yet about Cam Newton. I was there last night to witness his athletic greatness. But all the AU fans were blindly saying what a great kid he is. This was laughable. The jury is still out, but Cam has long way to go to rehabbing his image and becoming “great” in other facets of his life. For all the AU fans talking about UGA thugs on the field, there is a big difference between traffic citations and grand theft, and underage drinking and extortion. I hope that he does redeem himself eventually, but that takes time and enough has not gone by yet. I know the dream of a championship can warp even the sanest of fans, but let’s get some perspective.

Auburn came out playing tight because they are undefeated and the pressure was on plus all of the crap surrounding their program the last week. Fellow UGA fans, you need to get real. It is interesting how Richt has diverted the home-boy critics from his own coaching and leadership failures to #90. Fairley is a rough player who is sometimes over the line. I guess the whining pups forgot about Ellerbe and Asher Allen and a whole bunch of criminal athletes who have characterized Richt’s tenure at Georgia. Richt engineered the fight at the end of the game and then sent the team on the field like he did against UF. The conference should look at that behavior. It is a shame that a classic rivalry has turned into a brawl. Both teams can share the blame for that.

It is up to his coaches and the refs to reign him in. If they won’t do it then the o-line has to protect the QB any way they can. Trey – evidebntly you are the retard. Fairly was not hit in to the QB. He went helmet first as fast and as low as he could in to his knees. He also hit him late on at least four other occasions – receiving the flag for only one. He should be suspended from college ball for the rest of the season. This won’t be condoned in the NFL by the refs or the players. He also hit Garcia late several times and knocked him out of the game. Spurrier will remember this. His pay back time is coming.

I could not see what caused fight at end, but i did see bad behavior on both sides as if broke out. Why focus one player who gets to come between the hedges next season.
As has been the case all year our coaches do a poor job of coaching during the game and game preparation. Auburn had 73 snaps to our 52. There is your score and difference of 9 minutes in time of possession. When will football fans understand what the spread does to a defense.
I do not think Grantham has not figured that out all year. We absolutely have no defensive line…NG and ends. Justin Houston is a good outside rusher but where was he in this game. And 83 went inside too many times and allowed Auburn to get outside. Too many defensive players are undisciplined. Where is our D line coach this year. Auburn has a very good veteran offensive line. Newton is huge but Auburn’s success is due to their line.

Richt is right about the the poor play of the receiving team. Their poor play in the 2nd half contributed greatly to the outcome. Georgia had to make Auburn go the distance on offense, but when you start inside your 20 that is not good when you have no running game.
Do you remember at the beginning of the season Richt said he would be surprised if we did not run the ball well. Well Coach where are the rushing numbers this season? There are none. A veteran line that can not get it done. And running backs that for most of the season have not played. How many players did Auburn have suspended during the season and miss games. None.
Bobo calling the wild dawg when you have a 21-7 lead, momentum, facing 2nd and five and runs Smith in there, Auburn sees that play in their sleep, zero gain, 3rd down is an incomplete pass, we punt and Auburn come back with 14 points, 7 with 53 second left in the half. Georgia should have controlled the ball and built the lead. Then Auburn comes out and gets the ball on the 2nd half KO, again our special teams fail [where are you Coach Ball]. There is your ball game.

Probably the poorest officiated game in SEC history, not counting the plays of Fairley. The refs let him and Auburn get out of control in the beginning. Why do you allow a player to hold your QB down and in his face. Hopefully the Dawgs on the field who return next year remembers every bit of this next year in Athens.

You could’nt beat Bama,so you did the only thing you could think to do and recruit/buy the type of athlete you could use to get back into the SEC conversation. Well it looks like you got what you wanted. Hope it works out for you, but I don’t think you will end up liking the outcome. Keep bringing in these players like Fairley etc. and watch decent recruits turn their back on you. Your dreams will come shattering back to earth the day after Thanksgiving..

Great game by Awbun and the Dogs played hard for 90% of the game. I agree that Fairly should have been called at least once for driving Murray into the ground. But that’s not what won the game for them. We: had no kick return game; had too many penalties; didn’t protect Murray; gave up too many “big plays; 2 reverses for big gains”. That onside kick to start the 2nd half was killer. Awbun just controlled the clock after that; which also affected the Dogs offensive play calling. Don’t blame CMB.

We got beat by perhaps the No.1 team in the country. Even with the lapses on the O line and on D, the Dawgs played with heart.

Now……the hell with Tech!

Tex your an idiot…..If you watched the game you would have seen two other times in the game in which he hit Murray very late and drove him into the ground – Which neither was called. He then got called for a 3rd penalty later for driving with his helmet into Murray’s back well after the play was over. The last play he was not “blocked” into Murray. Shame on the Offensive Line for not “taking care” off fairley earlier in the game. Glad Ben finally stood up for his QB but it was well late.

This is one of the primary reasons I want Richt to stay at Georgia. He opted to take the knee to keep things for getting out of hand because he is a man with class and dignity. On the other hand, Chizik was jumping up and down, encouraging his goons to go out and take cheap shots at a Georgia team who had already lost the game.

And to all the AU fans calling us sore losers, I don’t remember hearing any UGA fans bringing this kind of stuff up after any of our other losses this year, so take off the orange and blue glasses and see that your boy Fairley is a straight up dirty player who was out to injure Aaron Murray. See y’all on the blog when the allegations surface.

I usually always cheer for the SEC to bring home the National Championship, but I want this classless group of thugs to go down in the worst kind of way. Enjoy the wins while they last because they’ll be vacated, Auburn will be put on probation, and there won’t be a bit of sympathy from me or anyone in the Bulldawg Nation.

By Chris Low
Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley has had a great season, but he got away with several late hits, and borderline dirty hits on Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray on Saturday.

The final one sent Murray limping to the sideline.

It’s the reason Georgia’s players went after Fairley at the end of the game, which came close to triggering a brawl.

Two of Auburn’s defensive linemen — Michael Goggans and Mike Blanc — were ejected in the final minutes for throwing punches.

Even Chris Low thinks Fairley had dirty shots including the last one

Ater watching the end of the game, I was sickened by Nick Fairley’s actions. After the 2nd. scuffle, standing in the middle of the field facing the fans while holding his arms, and hands high almost saying look at me. We do not question his ability, nor do we question his heart. But we do question his motives. Weather he’s diving at someones knees, or spearing them in the back. This game showed that Auburn has absolutely no class. They are definitely the trailer park of the SEC. They virtually bought their one-man team, Cam Newton. This is because our great CEO Mark Richt assessed his talent at College Park High School as “a potential tight end.” Oh well… Then, the coaching staff at Auburn should be in WWF instead of college football. If these turds are supposed to be teaching sportsmanship, fellowship, or how to have class or be respectable they are abject failures. Finally, some of these ghetto punks on the Auburn side need to be arrested and put on a chain gang down in Lower Alabama somewhere. Just disgusting… Finally, the SEC team that refereed that game should be summarily fired because they allowed all that cheap stuff.
I am not saying that Georgia is without its trash such as Rambo and Ealey, and I hesitate to say this, but I would rather have the incompetent Preacha Man Mark Richt and his 5-6 team that that gang of thugs that wear Auburn colors. They are a disgrace to every single person who ever graduated from that cow college.

Ga lost because Auburn had the best team, Cam Newton is the best player in college football, No doubt about that, As far as Fairley is concerned I think the officials were to blame for letting the situation get out of control, He should have been ejected when he hit Murray in the back with his helment, Playing aggressive is one thing but trying to injure someone is another thing, I also think the auburn coaching staff were encouraging thier players to play dirty, But at least they didn’t break out the fire hoses and hose down the dog fans.

If he had been blocked into him his helmet would not of hit his knee. Blocking into, and diving into are two very different motions. Just look at his motion, he’s going against the block. His feet went the way he was blocked. His head went where he wanted it to, which is where it hit.

Two things I take away from the game: Auburn players going out of their way to commit personal fouls, even when the game was clearly over (what about the non-call on the “stiff arm” punch by Newton earlier in the game?). Meanwhile the Tiger fans cheer when UGA players get hurt. Second, the willingness of Auburn to ignore the rules and play a player who is certain to be ineligable months from now, and just forfeit all their games regardless. Why not play him anyway? Because it is NOT how the game is played and sends a horrible message to the rest of college sports: we are caught cheating, but we won’t stop until we are made to do so.

Georgia will “win” this game by this time next year. It will just take a NCAA investigation to make it happen, and Auburn is headed for some serious penalties.

Auburn has a great offense and Newton is a great player — personal issues aside. Don’t really care about that — the best team won. Newton’s issues with the NCAA will be resolved one way or another.

BUT Nick Fairley is a dirty player and any Auburn fan that can’t see that is classless. He does that in the NFL and he will lose a knee. There is nothing particularly tough about hitting an exposed quarterback late. he did it at least four times and only got called once.

We got out coached plain and simple!! WE CONTINUALLY ARE NOT AGGRESSIVE ENOUGH IN EVERY GAME!! Richt on the onside kick by Auburn to start 2nd half!!! “We alerted [the players] at the half. The dilemma for our special teams is if they sit at the tee and watch the ball too long when all those guys are flying down the field at 100 miles an hour and they’re supposed to get in position to block, they can’t make the block. Richt sounds like coaching to me if the guys are doing this why don’t we put guys on the field that can do this??? Bottom line folks we are not very good and our defense SUCKS!!! Don’t blame the officals they get paid by the SEC and the SEC wants a team in the National Championship!! Blame the SEC for not taking action!!!Unfortunately this is what the bcs has created with no playoffs!! Richt 1 more year to right the ship or you are GONE!!!!

November 14th, 2010
10:59 am

All last week I had a feeling that UGA wouldn’t win against Auburn. I was just glad they didn’t put 60 points on UGA. I have never really had anything against Auburn. I have always thought they were a classy team and I enjoyed watching the UGA/Auburn game. Now last week I was hoping all the allegation against Cam were not true but today i hope he everything turns out to be true and Auburn burns for it.

DT Nick Fairley is a punk, no good, sorry excues for a human being. I watched, just like everyone else did yesterday, him continuously put late hits on Aaron Murray. For all those Auburn homers who say he was blocked into Murray are stupid. I am sure that they coach the offensive linemen to block the defensive linemen into the quarterback. On the play the offensive linemen tried to push him to the outside. Nick Fairley went after Murray’s leg. I was happy to see the UGA linemen went after him after that play. You have to protect your quarterback.

Now the refs need to be punished for not calling the late hits. If they would have call it the first couple of times he might have stopped, fearing he would hurt his team if he continued to do it. One other thing about the refs. In the first quarter Cam put a stiffarm on Baccari Rambo, that could have (I am not saying I did) been taken as a punch. The ref warned him. There should be no warnings. If you commit a penaltie they should throw the flag.

Stay classy Auburn.

Looking at the replay on the hit that got Murray injured it seemed like Fairly did intentionally get to the QB but there seemed to be no maliciousness involved. However, since it was intentional and below the knees it should’ve been penalized. Not to mention he should’ve been flagged for “showing attention to oneself” after the brawl. If the camera could clearly see it for 30 seconds the officials could’ve seen it.

Regardless of the record I’ll hang with the ‘Dawgs–but it’s disgusting to lose so many games. AU has a great offense but UGA’s defense only has 2-3 players who really lay it on the line. NOT impressed with the change in coordinators. It just hasn’t panned out. Scoring 30 points in past 5 games means the offense is working. Whaddup Grantham?
AU was extra-dirty last night. Fairley is a thug from the get-go and no, underage drinking and getting tickets (UGA players) aren’t the same as the #$%% coming from the AU team. The Newton story stinks to high Heaven and where there’s THAT much smoke–there’s fire. Time will tell, baby.

Georgia fans, we Arkansas fans know how you feel. Our QB was knocked out of the Auburn game with a dirty hit that the referee stared at from 4 feet away and did nothing about. The only way Newton can tip-toe through a congested line of scrimmage all the time is because Auburn’s O-line holds on every play. You were robbed when the refs gave Auburn a TD when Newton clearly lost control of the ball before crossing the goal line. The exact same thing happened in our game with them. I thought the refs were supposed to assume a fumble and let the replay confirm or deny the fumble, but not when it concerns a possible TD for the only undefeated team left in the SEC. In our game the refs later assumed a fumble on our RB that Auburn returned for a TD. Replay showed enough evidence that the RB was down, but because the refs called it differently on the field, they let the call on the field stand. In your game and in our game, the refs called things to help the undefeated team because the SEC simply MUST have an undefeated team play in the BCS game. Shameful. If and when Newton is found to be ineligible, I hope all Auburn coaches lose their jobs. I have never been an Alabama fan, but I will be when Auburn plays them.

The sad thing is that Auburn didn’t need #90 and its other defensive player to play dirty in order for it to win. But when they did choose to play that way, it showed the true character of their team and coaches – win at any cost. I thought Les Miles was the only “River Boat Gambler” in the SEC but Chizik has shown he is one too but in a different way. Les gambles in the type of plays he calls but Chizik is gambling with the whole Auburn football program. If it is proven that Cam did indeed know about his dad asking for money (and it seems he did from the phone call he had with a MSU recruiter when he told the recruiter that he was going to AU), then AU will forfeit it’s entire season, get placed on serious probation and perhaps get the death penalty because its head coach made a seriously bad, and perhaps very arrogant, choice.

My read on the Fairley chop block is UGA wanted to send Fairley a message, “lay off”, since the officials were too busy to call a penalty on UA. Fairley was going after Murray on every play intenting to take him out of the game with an injury. Unfortunately, another thing UGA is not very good at is chop blocking. My suggestion is. UGA should plan and practice enforcement especially when officials are not very zealous on calling a clean game.

Just finished watching the game again. Go back and watch the 1st qtr. #90 Fairley intentionally late hit Murray 3 times and it continued on thru out the game. Imo, he intended to hurt Murray. It won’t surprise me if they paid him to hurt Murray. But, I don’t condone the chop block Josh Davis on Fairley. Josh was penalized for it and never did it again.. good call by the ref. But, if the friggin refs would’ve flagged Fairley for the late hits in the first qtr, none of that nonsense would occurred at the end of the game. I blamed the fight on the refs, not the players. It’s their job to manage and keep the game under their control.

To quote you “Nothing more… Nothing less… ” It was not good, hard-nosed football and the guy should have been ejected from the game by the incompetent refs. Credit where due: Bobo hung 31 on Auburn. I’d fire them both anyway.

It’s plain to see that Auburn is a classless program and will get what it deserves in the end, but I hope CMR sees that he needs to change his coaching mentality and recruit a different type of player to compete in the SEC. We have been subpar since all of Donnans recruit have graduated and our record reflects on and off the field. We still don’t know how to make adjustments during the game and we still only got one quarter of good play from the defense. We have to do a better job of protecting the QB and we definately need to recruit bigger and meaner lineman on both sides of the ball. We need more physical CBs that actually know how to hit somebody and again we need a better strength and conditioning coach. Bobo needs to be demoted and we need to recruit better RBs and WR. Once AJ is gone, the offense will be depleted. The whole program needs evaluating at the end of the season and we need more dedication to the weight room in the off season.

AFDawg, you defend that type of play by taking the knee away from that type of player. UGA needs to develop a mean streak and keep it from this point on. When you compete against dirty players, you have to play dirty yourself. UGA needs to develop a killer instinct and they will be a lot better off.

I’m Auburn class of ‘60. I write this so you’ll know where I’m coming from at the start.

Of all of Auburn’s opponents I have greatest respect for Georgia. I’m sorry the situation developed at the end of the game. I was there. I hated to see it. Auburn is paying the price with two players suspended for the first half of the Alabama game.

It was a hard hitting game no doubt. Fairley collected the 15 yard penalty early in the game for the helmet to the Georgia QB’s back. It was deserved. What was not deserved was several Georgia players jumping on Fairley while he was on the ground on a play following the play when Fairley’s helmet hit the Georgia QB’s knee. I’ve watched the replay. He was blocked by a Georgia player and was falling toward the QB when it happened. He had no control of where he fell. This incident appeared to be the cause of the attack on Fairley and the later altercation on the field. I would hope those who are so ready to have a hanging party for Fairley would look carefully at the play were the injury occurred to the Georgia QB before rushing to judgment. Also, they need to look at the later play where several Georgia players attacked Fairley while he was on the ground. Unfortunately the second Auburn ejection came when a teammate came to Fairley’s defense.

Again, I’ve long had great respect for Georgia as a worthy opponent. We don’t need to let a rush to judgment damage the longest football series in the Deep South. Auburn players shouldn’t have thrown a punch, but Georgia players shouldn’t have attacked Fairley while he was on the ground. Both actions were indefensible. Auburn’s, unfortunately, carries the heavier penaly…the suspensions.

UGA fans are dumb. Your AD got fired for his classiness. You had more players arrested this year than any other school in the nation. One of your fans got arrested for setting Toomer’s corner on fire. You are proud of your “drunk obnoxious Georgia” fans. Your fans and players are routinely classless and they started the fight. The only “cheap shot” was the helmet to the back, and he got flagged for it. Stop being so petty and just take a loss when it’s handed to you. Chizik was excited because the game was over and we had just WON THE WEST you retards. Get off your invisible high horse and realize how classless your team really is. I like Richt and think he’s a good guy, but he obviously doesn’t have control of his team with all the arrest. Chizik will get onto his players and punish them for what happened. JiminLA, the game was about what I expected with Cam playing. Tit for tat for a while, with Auburn wearing us out in the end. The onside kick was the momentum changer, we hung one more series, luckily by a great catch from Durham.

We left with two minutes remaining after the play Murray got hurt on so we missed the fireworks. I will watch the replay before making final judgement, but from the stands it looked like a hard fought contest. We just didn’t have enough gas to go the distance. The Auburn pass rush was the difference maker in our offense. Murray just didn’t have enough time make good decisions. AJ Green was open going down the right side on the 4th down hurry up throw, Murray just didn’t have the time to pick him up.

The Auburn fans were gracious as usual, outside of one high testosterone, drunk, obnoxious fellow. W.D.E. for me the rest of the year…..

what has happened to the Georgia program and fanbase? I used to associate Auburn more closely to Georgia than any other school. But I was at the 2007 and 2009 games. I have never been treated poorly ANYWHERE. I basically had to fight my way out of a bathroom just prior to kickoff in 2007. Both years our group of 5, 50-ish couples were geered, had stuff thrown on us, you name it. I also remember some gansta dancing during the last few minutes of the 2007 game. Fairley,Newton and Chizik have definetly made it where I will not pull for them in the chamionship game or title game. They have no class. I liked Newton from what I saw early on this year, but to see him run out on the field before the game without his team like he was god. The most ignorant thing was how he laid there acting hurt and then jumping up smiling like a dam kid thinking that was funny. Real leaders and talented athletes don’t show boat, they swagger. Please don’t vote for him for Heismen, it will be just like you did for Obama (Mistake). Tebow didn’t act like that nor does Murry who is one heck of a QB with lots of heart. Newton is only in it for himself and the money, and I can’t see how the other players can’t see that.

Fairley’s fat baby face souldn’t be allowed to play the game.

Dirty Dawgs? Lack of class on Georgia’s side? I think so.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/517057-georgia-auburn-gets-ugly-why-richt-must-go

Fairley tackles Washuan Ealey after a gain of about 3 yards. During the play UGA’s number 61 Ben Jones holds the jersey of Auburn’s number 93 Mike Blanc and pushes him out of the play. Then in a pre-mediated manner Jones immediately pounces on Auburn’s number 90 Nick Fairley and grapples with him on the ground. On the video you can clearly see Jones punching Fairley in the abdomen as he pins him on the ground. Seeing this, Auburn’s Mike Blanc and Stevens pull Jones off of Fairley. UGA’s Washaun Ealey gets in the middle and starts shoving and punching Blanc. UGA’s #60 Clint Boling then jumps in the middle and starts punching any Auburn player he can see, all while he continues to thrust himself into the Auburn side of the line of scrimmage.

While Boling is punching players, Auburn’s Goggins pushes him away from the Auburn players that Jones is attacking. While shoving Goggins away he shoves the face mask of Boling. Then Washaun Ealey, already suspended this year for going to jail, punches Goggins in the facemask.

Of course, in the Professional manner of SEC officiating, the Referee calls the punch on Goggins and ejects him for the deliberate actions of Mark Richt’s players, specifically Ben Jones, Ealey, and Boling. Then, while the SEC officials explain the penalty, Mark Richt has the audacity to come out on the field and tell the Ref that this is what happens when you don’t call the personal foul on Nick Fairley on the previous play.

But wait, it is not over. Two plays later, UGA runs the ball to the right. During this play, UGA’s #60 Clint Boling goes after the knees of Auburn lineback Craig Stevens. Also, #71 Cordy Glenn, blocks Auburn’s #93 Mike Blanc in the back and out of the play while holding his jersey. UGA’s Glenn continues pushing Blanc out of the play and Blanc starts pounding the chest of Glenn in the same manner as lineman punch during a pass rush. Glenn continues to shove Blanc after the whistle blows and tries to shove him into the UGA players bench.

Of course, in the Professional manner of SEC officiating, the referee call Blanc for a punch and ejects him from the game. Once again, as the result of Mark Richt’s out of control players and program a second Auburn player is ejected from the game.

So, I guess Mark Richt got what he wanted, two players ejected. Instead of graciously accepting his loss, he lashes out and instructs his players to involve themselves in behavior demeaning to the University of Georgia and the rest of College Football. Instead of graciously accepting defeat, his jealously will likely cause 2 Auburn players to miss the first half of the Auburn Alabama game. Mark Richt’s jealous rage could affect the outcome of that game and the outcome of the BCS.

Worse, Mark Richt has lost control of his program. Richt has had over 11 players arrested, one of which, Ealey, was in the middle of and instigated these actions. The lack of institutional control has been reflected for over 5 years now and shows its head amongst the game, the players, penalties, coaching, and on to the fans and worse yet, the students. I have over 5 stories (I’ll spare the details) of UGA fans harassing me at a UGA Auburn game. Two of these stories occurred after watching UGA players dance and stomp between quarters in an effort to show off. In addition, I have witnessed first hand Georgia players punching and gouging players in the pile.

I can’t figure out how Richt is able to portray himself so well off the field, but portrays himself so poorly on the field. Lastly, I can’t figure out how the Georgia football nation has not figured it out as well.

In conclussion, Richt has lost control of his program. For the benefit of Georgia and college sportsmanship, it would be best if Richt regained that control.

If any of you honestly think Fairley intentionally went after after his knee then you all are crazy. If you think you can go full speed, get blocked into the quarterback, see the ball leave his hands, and pull up in a matter of seconds then none of you understand the game of football and the true speed. Just because the announcers show it in slow-mo doesn’t mean the players see it that way.

As we debate the behavior of Fairley, please keep in mind that he has been the focus of other SEC coaches and teams because of his dirty play. The guy is a great defensive lineman, but he is also a dirty player. I don’t undersand why Auburn supporters can’t admit to both of those attributes. We got beat (maybe not fair and square) by perhaps the best team in the country. Awbun has been doing that to ALL their opponents this year. We were in the game until the 4th quarter; when it kinda got outa hand due to their running game and clock control. The usual #1 rule in the SEC? Stop the run and run the ball. We did neither. Not to mention, usually our kick returns have gotten us some decent field position; not Saturday. Awbun just shut us down in the 4th quarter. Fairly not withstanding, the Dawgs just got beat.
