Georgia’s loss to Auburn on Saturday ended with Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray out of the game after taking a blow to his left knee, and there was no definitive word Sunday on the extent of the injury.
Coach Mark Richt indicated after the game Saturday night that he did not believe the injury was serious, and Murray seemed to be walking fine as he made his way to the locker room.
But on his regular Sunday evening teleconference with the media, Richt had no update on any injuries, including Murray’s.
With Georgia having an open date this week, the team and staff were given a day off on Sunday, and Richt, who conducted the conference call from home, said he had not met with director of sports medicine Ron Courson.
“I’m not going to talk about injuries in this conference,” Richt said. “I’m just going to hold off on that. I’ve got to get a clear picture from Ron . . . When I get with Ron, I’m sure we’ll have a discussion and will have a better idea of what is going on in that regard.”
Murray was on the sideline for the final five plays of Saturday’s game after his knee was jarred in a collision with the helmet of Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley.
“We don’t think there was any kind of structural damage [to the knee],” Richt said in his postgame news conference Saturday night. “We think it was more just a blow on the knee, the bone or whatever. He actually wanted to go back in and play. He was able to. I just told him no.”
Murray was not available for interviews after the game because he was receiving medical attention. Later in the night, he posted on Twitter: “Knee is all good, just gotta get some sleep and [I'll] be feeling good.”
Murray took a battering throughout the game, mainly from Fairley.
Asked Sunday if he took issue with some of Fairley’s hits, Richt said: “That’s another subject I’m not going to make a comment on right now.”
Tensions boiled over near the end of the game, and two Auburn players, defensive end Michael Goggans and defensive tackle Mike Blanc, were ejected for throwing punches.
“Just really disappointed in that,” Auburn coach Gene Chizik said after the game. “That’s a lot of reflection on us as coaches, and I am embarrassed by it. That’s not who we are.”
Richt said Sunday he had not heard from Chizik since the game and does not expect or need to.
“I know our guys were highly emotionally charged also, so I’m not going to sit here and try to say their guys were doing one thing and our guys were doing another,” Richt said. “I had enough concern about what was going on that we took a knee on that last play [of the game] just to try to defuse what was happening out there.”

After this week’s open date, Georgia closes its regular-season schedule Nov. 27 in Athens against Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs (5-6) need a win to become bowl-eligible for the 14th consecutive season.
“It is very important for us to go play in a bowl game,” Richt said Sunday, “but the most important thing for us is to beat our in-state rival, Georgia Tech. That’s more important to me and everyone else. That’s the main focus for us. Bowl eligibility comes along with it.”
Richt said the team will practice Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and take the weekend off. Georgia has played games in 11 consecutive weeks.

…how all of the War/Plainsman/Eagle/Tigers think every comment is from a UGA fan. I’m not. I don’t even live in the south. Auburn’s antics are national news. Google it…and don’t just read the Auburn bloggers. This season will be vacated and long term viability of the program is truly in jeopardy.

The dawgs were out coached and out played in the second half against Auburn. Put a skirt on Murray then maybe he won’t get hit. Its football!!!

I like how Dawg fans like to ignore their dirty play and flat out lie about things that happened during the game. Most of you UGA fans probably weren’t even watching the game in the last 2 min. I know 95% of the UGA fans in the stadium were gone… Instead you watch a couple of clips of Fairly making bad hits and act like he was the only guilty party Sat. A few facts for you guys that get your info from blogs.
1. UGA got a personal foul on the FIRST play of the game. Who is it that set the tone of dirty play again? Even the announcers said in the first quarter “It’s getting a little chippy out there, and it’s being led by Mark Richt.” FYI, UGA had 5 personal fouls, same as Auburn. Another thing the broadcast didn’t show was the UGA players attempting to jump up and down on our logo before the refs intervened and pushed them to the 45. First time I saw any team do that all season.
2.You guys keep going on about Chizik being fired up, but Richt was showing his a$$ from the start, running out on the field on a holding call, pointing at the flag and waving like an idiot for it to come back. He was on the field so much in the game I thought he was a player. But because Chizik was fired up for beating a rival and securing the West title, he’s classless. You guys have a coach that made a choking jesture to an opposing player last week, and a head coach that ordered an excessive celebration in a game as “motivation”. Don’t talk to us about coach behavior, hypocrites.
3. The first hit Fairly made to the back of Murray was stupid and reckless, and he was flagged for it as he should have been, keeping UGA’s drive alive on a failed 3rd down attempt. Murray got up like a man and Georgia ended up scoring.
4. Early in the second, Josh Davis tried to hit Fairly’s knee while he was being blocked by another player, but thankfully he didn’t make good contact. He was flagged for a chop block, the only one of about 4 that got called for UGA fans that want to talk about personal fouls not being called. Keep in mind that this is a full quarter before Fairly’s cheap shot to the back of Murray. So the UGA fans saying this was retailiation for the hit in the back need to actually watch the game, not youtube clips.
5. UGA fans keep making up stuff saying AU fans booed an injured player. I was right there in front of the guy, and he was coming off the field OK before the UGA coaches came on the field and yelled for him to fall down so they could get a free timeout and slow down our drive. We were booing the coaches, not the player, so get your facts straight. UGA fans also convieniently ignore the fact that the AU fans cheered everytime an injured UGA player walked off the field. They also ignore that the AU players knelt to pray when one UGA player got seriously hurt, unlike UGA’s players.
6. UGA fans are whining about the player who injured his ankle, saying the AU player rolled on top of it. If you actually watch it, Smith put a block on the guy and then fell to the ground. The UGA player’s foot got caught under him as he was shedding the block and trying to pursue the runner. Not sure how Smith could help that since he was falling to the ground after the block.
7. On the play where Murray got injured, Fairly was blocked into Murray and his facemask hit his shin as he was falling down. I’m not sure how a 300 lb dude is supposed to stop midair if he is falling down. The ref was standing right there looking at it and didn’t think it was intentional. Neither did either of the broadcasters. This probably wouldn’t be made such a big deal if Fairly hadn’t made the stupid hit earlier.
8. A few plays later, UGA players attempted a gang beating on Fairly, piling on, punching and trying to gouge his eyes. Goggans got kicked out for trying to defend his teamate. FYI, UGA got called for a personal foul for the attack, but that is ignored. The entire UGA bench cleared trying to get in a brawl, while the AU bench stayed put. How not a single UGA player was ejected from the game is beyond me. Leaving the bench is grounds for ejection and suspension.
9. Bottom line is, Fairly clearly made some cheap plays Sat, but the Murray injury wasn’t one of them. UGA fans ignore the fact the Richt has no control over his team, and it shows in the police blotter and on the field. Quit being all high and mightly acting like your team did nothing wrong Sat. UGA set the tone early and were just as much a part of the dirty play that went on.
10. And to the fans bringing up the black jerseys in 2007, AU wasn’t upset about the black jerseys gimmick, they took issue with the game turning into a Soulja Boy dance party.
11. You UGA fans talking about class might want to go bail your buddy out of the AU jail that got arrested for trying to burn down Toomer’s Sat night. Now that’s class.

if it were the other way around, with Newton getting hit in the spine with the crown of a helmut, getting hit in the knees and getting body slammed, Auburn would’ve retaliated too..don’t play dumb on that. it was a football game, Auburn won, Georgia lost.. Eugene Chizik showed that he is a man of character, good or bad, you decide….move on…

Auburn is not an elite team. They have a great offensive player and one great defenisve player. Terrible defense and the offense is all gimmicks. This is not a traditional SEC powerhouse and for that reason I hope they don’t win another game. They do not deserve to represent the SEC. Hard to beleive but Tebow was a breath of fresh air compared to all the CAM hype.

I hope the DAWGS have cried their eyes out already. If UGA has to wait 2 weeks until they play again, then how much crying are we going to have to listen too?
HOW many UGA players Should have to have sit for the 1st Half of the TECH GAME? UGA fans are all crying FOWL and that teams need to play by the rules. So, Dawgs How many of your players jumped on Fairley? Who many Threw punches? How many left the bench and rushed the Field? So, again HOW MANY DAWGS SHOULD BE SUSPENDED for the 1st half of their next game like the rules say?
Dawgs Stand-up and Play by the RULES you are crying about and TELL THE WORLD you are a true Rule Loving University and Sit all the Players that BROKE THE RULES in the AUBURN GAME.

Trisha…i’ve repeatedly heard you defend the notion that if the ref’s did not see the violation, then it was clean. The premise is based upon the following logis: if you are not caught, then you did nothing wrong. So I guess it’s no problem if someone drives while intoxicated and kills someone during a hit & run so long as they are not found by the police. Support your team, that’s fine, but don’t be ignorant in your logic, or in the support of your team. Farley aims to injure, and if Aaron Murray were your son, you would take exception to his style of play. Enough said…

So Durham & Barnhart
Just said on the radio that the SEC will not Suspend ANY UGA player that broke the rules in the Fight and Rushing the Field during the Auburn v UGA game.
The SEC is a JOKE. They make rules and don’t even act like they matter.
UGA quit whinning about AUBRUN breaking the RULES and going after your QB unless you want Most of your starting O and most of your starting D to have to sit the TECH game. You had too many players break the rules rushing the field.
UGA fans will love the TECH game. It kicks at 7:45 on ESPN. Thank God I don’t go to Athens anymore. All the DRUNK UGA fans are the worst. Don’t even think there is another SEC teams fans that are as CLASSLESS as DRUNK DAWGS.

jack bull, you do realize Chizik has been a big part of 2 undefeated teams, right? 2004 @ Auburn and at Texas a few years ago, so yeah he HAS been there before. Keep bringing up Cam and Chizik’s time at Iowa State if that’s what helps you sleep at night. The score still reads 49-31, however. UGA got whooped on the field, and now their fans are whining about anything and everything off of it.

that gimmick offense has torched several sec teams this year. I see you and grantham are on the same page thinking the AU offense just uses trick plays.I guess if you call a qb power qb sweep, and zone read play being trick plays, then i’d say you’re correct. Only thing is if you saw Vince Yound play at Texas you might understand. I see your lack of knowledge is showing. It appears AU told you guys that their running the ball and you couldnt stop it. Dirty Dawgs? Lack of class on Georgia’s side? I think so.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/517057-georgia-auburn-gets-ugly-why-richt-must-go
Fairley tackles Washuan Ealey after a gain of about 3 yards. During the play UGA’s number 61 Ben Jones holds the jersey of Auburn’s number 93 Mike Blanc and pushes him out of the play. Then in a pre-mediated manner Jones immediately pounces on Auburn’s number 90 Nick Fairley and grapples with him on the ground. On the video you can clearly see Jones punching Fairley in the abdomen as he pins him on the ground. Seeing this, Auburn’s Mike Blanc and Stevens pull Jones off of Fairley. UGA’s Washaun Ealey gets in the middle and starts shoving and punching Blanc. UGA’s #60 Clint Boling then jumps in the middle and starts punching any Auburn player he can see, all while he continues to thrust himself into the Auburn side of the line of scrimmage.
While Boling is punching players, Auburn’s Goggins pushes him away from the Auburn players that Jones is attacking. While shoving Goggins away he shoves the face mask of Boling. Then Washaun Ealey, already suspended this year for going to jail, punches Goggins in the facemask.
Of course, in the Professional manner of SEC officiating, the Referee calls the punch on Goggins and ejects him for the deliberate actions of Mark Richt’s players, specifically Ben Jones, Ealey, and Boling. Then, while the SEC officials explain the penalty, Mark Richt has the audacity to come out on the field and tell the Ref that this is what happens when you don’t call the personal foul on Nick Fairley on the previous play.
But wait, it is not over. Two plays later, UGA runs the ball to the right. During this play, UGA’s #60 Clint Boling goes after the knees of Auburn lineback Craig Stevens. Also, #71 Cordy Glenn, blocks Auburn’s #93 Mike Blanc in the back and out of the play while holding his jersey. UGA’s Glenn continues pushing Blanc out of the play and Blanc starts pounding the chest of Glenn in the same manner as lineman punch during a pass rush. Glenn continues to shove Blanc after the whistle blows and tries to shove him into the UGA players bench.
Of course, in the Professional manner of SEC officiating, the referee call Blanc for a punch and ejects him from the game. Once again, as the result of Mark Richt’s out of control players and program a second Auburn player is ejected from the game.
So, I guess Mark Richt got what he wanted, two players ejected. Instead of graciously accepting his loss, he lashes out and instructs his players to involve themselves in behavior demeaning to the University of Georgia and the rest of College Football. Instead of graciously accepting defeat, his jealously will likely cause 2 Auburn players to miss the first half of the Auburn Alabama game. Mark Richt’s jealous rage could affect the outcome of that game and the outcome of the BCS.
Worse, Mark Richt has lost control of his program. Richt has had over 11 players arrested, one of which, Ealey, was in the middle of and instigated these actions. The lack of institutional control has been reflected for over 5 years now and shows its head amongst the game, the players, penalties, coaching, and on to the fans and worse yet, the students. I have over 5 stories (I’ll spare the details) of UGA fans harassing me at a UGA Auburn game. Two of these stories occurred after watching UGA players dance and stomp between quarters in an effort to show off. In addition, I have witnessed first hand Georgia players punching and gouging players in the pile.
I can’t figure out how Richt is able to portray himself so well off the field, but portrays himself so poorly on the field. Lastly, I can’t figure out how the Georgia football nation has not figured it out as well.
In conclussion, Richt has lost control of his program. For the benefit of Georgia and college sportsmanship, it would be best if Richt regained that control.
