No word yet on Murray’s knee injury

Georgia’s loss to Auburn on Saturday ended with Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray out of the game after taking a blow to his left knee, and there was no definitive word Sunday on the extent of the injury.

Coach Mark Richt indicated after the game Saturday night that he did not believe the injury was serious, and Murray seemed to be walking fine as he made his way to the locker room.

But on his regular Sunday evening teleconference with the media, Richt had no update on any injuries, including Murray’s.

With Georgia having an open date this week, the team and staff were given a day off on Sunday, and Richt, who conducted the conference call from home, said he had not met with director of sports medicine Ron Courson.

“I’m not going to talk about injuries in this conference,” Richt said. “I’m just going to hold off on that. I’ve got to get a clear picture from Ron . . . When I get with Ron, I’m sure we’ll have a discussion and will have a better idea of what is going on in that regard.”

Murray was on the sideline for the final five plays of Saturday’s game after his knee was jarred in a collision with the helmet of Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley.

“We don’t think there was any kind of structural damage [to the knee],” Richt said in his postgame news conference Saturday night. “We think it was more just a blow on the knee, the bone or whatever. He actually wanted to go back in and play. He was able to. I just told him no.”

Murray was not available for interviews after the game because he was receiving medical attention. Later in the night, he posted on Twitter: “Knee is all good, just gotta get some sleep and [I'll] be feeling good.”

Murray took a battering throughout the game, mainly from Fairley.

Asked Sunday if he took issue with some of Fairley’s hits, Richt said: “That’s another subject I’m not going to make a comment on right now.”

Tensions boiled over near the end of the game, and two Auburn players, defensive end Michael Goggans and defensive tackle Mike Blanc, were ejected for throwing punches.

“Just really disappointed in that,” Auburn coach Gene Chizik said after the game. “That’s a lot of reflection on us as coaches, and I am embarrassed by it. That’s not who we are.”

Richt said Sunday he had not heard from Chizik since the game and does not expect or need to.

“I know our guys were highly emotionally charged also, so I’m not going to sit here and try to say their guys were doing one thing and our guys were doing another,” Richt said. “I had enough concern about what was going on that we took a knee on that last play [of the game] just to try to defuse what was happening out there.”

++++++++++

After this week’s open date, Georgia closes its regular-season schedule Nov. 27 in Athens against Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs (5-6) need a win to become bowl-eligible for the 14th consecutive season.

“It is very important for us to go play in a bowl game,” Richt said Sunday, “but the most important thing for us is to beat our in-state rival, Georgia Tech. That’s more important to me and everyone else. That’s the main focus for us. Bowl eligibility comes along with it.”

Richt said the team will practice Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and take the weekend off. Georgia has played games in 11 consecutive weeks.

did it against Clemson and SC as well. ARKY actually did better with their second stringer in. Hell, we could have lost a handful of games, but we didnt. If you havent noticed, just ask Richt, its about wins and losses

Wah Wah Doggies. You got a taste of your own medicine and you didn’t like it did you? I seem to remember a UGA player decking Tebow long after the play was over a few years ago and your games are always full of personal fouls. Fairley did seem to be playing dirty, but I think he got some of those moves from watching UGA highlight films.

GSS-

You think so. Just wait over the next two weeks. When the smoke clears you’ll understand and realize the NCAA is using AU as a witness in all of this. Keep on eye on Kenny Rogers, Miss St, Ole MIss, Houston Nutt, TN, Bryce Brown, Brent Schafer, jeremiah masoli and a WHOLE LOT more

I want a lot more than a 15 yd penalty, “Trisha”. Intentionally trying to hurt someone using your helmut/head is a fine in the NFL and grounds for suspension not to mention ejection from the game. None of those things can/will happen to Auburn but y’all have other issues, lots of other issues..I know you don’t understand because you think it’s ok because your team did it.

@ryan, I hope part of our gameplan IS to go after Mcelroy..because I don;t think their backup takes a lot of practice snaps..

And yes, UGAs gameplan was also to try to take cam out if possible.Rambo tried early, he was on his way to a late hit on cam out of bounds…cam stiff armed the tiny little safety making UGA fans whine even more..see our QB is bigger than your best defensive player.s.wasn;t gonna happen

what folks cant seem to grab onto is, if the ncaa recommends to sit a player, AU will. The ncaa doesnt tell you who to play or not to play. You have 104 players. They tell you who they recommend to sit. AU will not jeopardize the university for a football player. AU was great before any of those guys and it will be great hundreds of years from now.

Remember when Brown got knocked out during the Aub/Ga game at Jordan Hare a few years back? The whole stadium was silent after that hit and then cheered for him as he was carted off the field. That was a big hit but it’s part of football. The Auburn fans/players etc. showed some class when that happened, but this is different. Defending cheap shots is really low, but have your fun this year. Your 1-year mercenary QB will be gone after this year and it will be back to the same ole thing on the plains..

If the kind of hits Murray took from Nick Fairley are illegal in the NFL, you’d think the NCAA would also ban them. It was apparent to me that Fairley was out to injure Murray. On at least two occassions I saw Fairley try to bury Murray by driving him to the ground. The one penalty that was called on Fairley for hitting Murray in the back with his helment would be a fine in the NFL. It’s time for the NCAA to take a look at this kind of play.

The NCAA should suspend Farley for the Alabama game for all the cheap shots he took on Murray. You can bet the CMR sent off a dvd. Also, the officials should be suspended for the rest of the year for letting the game get out of hand. I’m not too worried about the loss because Auburn will have to forfiet this game and all the others for using an ineligible player when they knew he was. I used to be an Auburn fan when they weren’t playing UGA but no more. They teach dirty football. It’s not just Georgia fans that are saying this. That is what everybody across the nation is saying on sports talk shows.

Auburn played dirty. plain and simple. that SOB Fairley tried to take Murray’s knee out at the end of the game. early in the game Cam Newton was running the ball and punched a GA defender. it wasn’t a stiff arm. he made a fist and swung his arm. right in front of the ref. the ref even said something to Cam about it but never threw a flag. complete BS. I have lost alot of respect for Auburn and if they make the BCS championship game I will unfortunately have to root against the SEC.

Mike, if the NCAA had the same rules as the NFL, Farley would have been flagged, ejected, fined and suspended. NCAA needs to catch up. The officials did a pathetic job. Farley should be suspended for the Alabama game.

Nick Fairley is just another community college punk that probably doesn’t even show up for class at Auburn. Just the name “class” indicates that he would go the other way! Auburn’s defense has been taking cheap shots all season (especially against Clemson once they fell behind) and this is a poor reflection on Ted Roof (who I thought was better than that) and Gene Chizik. Sad to say, but once again it appears that the SEC office and officials are protecting the conference’s top ranked team because of the $$$ at the end of the BCS rainbow. Mike Slive needs to grow a pair and stand up to the recruiting cheats and cheap-shots on the field!

Many of our guys on the Clemson board are talking about how dirty Auburn plays. Moreover, its obvious that their coaching staff encourages such play, since its been going on all year including our game with them. I’ll say the same thing I said earlier this morning, Auburn is the dirtiest team I’ve ever seen, even worse than Miami years ago. And, Fairley is the dirtiest player I’ve ever seen. Richt was entirely within his rights to chop block that thug.

They should have chop blocked Farley from both sides. NCAA needs to show some guts and suspend him. His obvious intent was to injure the qb. What about those pile drive tackles?

You puppies are too funny. You got your little tails handed to you, and you want to cry dirty play. What about the chop blocks your offensive coaches teach. That is as dirty as it gets, and they have been doing it all year. Richt was the first to go crying to the refs when he wanted to make a big deal out of Tech doing it. Now he lets it go on with his team. Mark Richt is a hypocrite.

The officials failed to control this game…they seemed intimidated by the atmosphere and the crowd. To me the replays on both the on-side kick and the last TD showed that neither should have been allowed. The, so-called, attempt to stiff-arm our DB by Newton – one actually called a ‘punch’ by the announcers – should have resulted in his being ejected and having to miss the first half of the Alabama game. All-in-all Auburn showed it’s a$$ Saturday and it won’t help them when decisions have to be made about the ‘Cam Newton Affair’. Auburn’s choice to play him will cost them, big-time, when the NCAA finds out the truth about ‘the money’.

All this talk about whether the accusations alone should cost him the Heisman Trophy is one thing, but the same thing can be said about their remaining at the top, one or two, spots in the BCS. If I were Boise State and/or TCU I’d take it to court to force the NCAA, the FBI and anybody else that’s charged at getting at the truth on this, to pull out all the stops, offer whoever needs it immunity to tell what they know now so this can be resolved before the BCS NC is decided. It’s one thing to have to go back and have awards vacated, it’s another to deny other teams their chance to play for the NC. Auburn’s counting on lies and denial of guilt to get them by – a team that’s lost, at least, two other chances at the National Championship because they were on probation at the time – but with a little incentive will bring the facts out and decisions can be made.

By the way, this business about burning the toilet paper at Toomer’s Corner – that’s how they get the stuff down every time anyway, so if a disgruntled Georgia fan set fire to it he was probably just helping out.

There is no doubt AU plays with an edge. UGA should try that one day, it might save Grantham’s job. But thats a dicussion for another day.Yes, Fairley hit the QB late as all get out, but the lower leg hit was not dirty. An as far as calling folks dumb and stuff like that. I think we can all agree for the most part alot of the guys on our favorite teams will not be working for nasa or anything. How many dumb arrests have you guys had, enough said about that….With that said i’m sure Clemson is gripping. They have nothing else to talk about. When your QB decides to take off and run like a running back he will get treated like one as well

Look at the picture on top of this blog. Where are 90’s legs?
Thats right…they are off the ground which is what happens when you pick up a qb and pile drive him to the turf.
I dont blame the GA players for coming to Murrays aid. They should have done it sooner.
But having said that, I blame the officials. They should have ejected that piece of $h__ when he lowered his helmet and drilled Murray in the back.

We are focused on the wrong things as usual. We got a butt wipping. We had a 21-7 lead and let it get away quickly. I know the cheep shots and all that but the reality is we are not a top tier team. We need to look at why and change for the reasons for our inadquacy so we can become better. The refs don’t always call everything against the dogs, the other players are not the only ones that take cheap shots yada yada yada. As long as we just keep making excuses the results will not change.

Crime Dawgs just plead and plead and plead, but the are still “cry-babies!” When the Ga players came off the bench, it was supposed to be an automatic suspension for all that did so. This rivalry out-dates all of you, and you don’t know what its all about. The bottom line is 49-31. Ga played a good game, but now quite good enough. In 1997, Hines Ward tried to take Benji Roland’s knees out, but he got knocked out instead, even though he did do some damage. Of course most of you are not old enough to remember the “real football days,” when Coach Dooley was playing at Auburn, or when Pat Dye was playing at Georgia. You talk about some hitting!!!
