Georgia’s loss to Auburn on Saturday ended with Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray out of the game after taking a blow to his left knee, and there was no definitive word Sunday on the extent of the injury.
Coach Mark Richt indicated after the game Saturday night that he did not believe the injury was serious, and Murray seemed to be walking fine as he made his way to the locker room.
But on his regular Sunday evening teleconference with the media, Richt had no update on any injuries, including Murray’s.
With Georgia having an open date this week, the team and staff were given a day off on Sunday, and Richt, who conducted the conference call from home, said he had not met with director of sports medicine Ron Courson.
“I’m not going to talk about injuries in this conference,” Richt said. “I’m just going to hold off on that. I’ve got to get a clear picture from Ron . . . When I get with Ron, I’m sure we’ll have a discussion and will have a better idea of what is going on in that regard.”
Murray was on the sideline for the final five plays of Saturday’s game after his knee was jarred in a collision with the helmet of Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley.
“We don’t think there was any kind of structural damage [to the knee],” Richt said in his postgame news conference Saturday night. “We think it was more just a blow on the knee, the bone or whatever. He actually wanted to go back in and play. He was able to. I just told him no.”
Murray was not available for interviews after the game because he was receiving medical attention. Later in the night, he posted on Twitter: “Knee is all good, just gotta get some sleep and [I'll] be feeling good.”
Murray took a battering throughout the game, mainly from Fairley.
Asked Sunday if he took issue with some of Fairley’s hits, Richt said: “That’s another subject I’m not going to make a comment on right now.”
Tensions boiled over near the end of the game, and two Auburn players, defensive end Michael Goggans and defensive tackle Mike Blanc, were ejected for throwing punches.
“Just really disappointed in that,” Auburn coach Gene Chizik said after the game. “That’s a lot of reflection on us as coaches, and I am embarrassed by it. That’s not who we are.”
Richt said Sunday he had not heard from Chizik since the game and does not expect or need to.
“I know our guys were highly emotionally charged also, so I’m not going to sit here and try to say their guys were doing one thing and our guys were doing another,” Richt said. “I had enough concern about what was going on that we took a knee on that last play [of the game] just to try to defuse what was happening out there.”
++++++++++
After this week’s open date, Georgia closes its regular-season schedule Nov. 27 in Athens against Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs (5-6) need a win to become bowl-eligible for the 14th consecutive season.
“It is very important for us to go play in a bowl game,” Richt said Sunday, “but the most important thing for us is to beat our in-state rival, Georgia Tech. That’s more important to me and everyone else. That’s the main focus for us. Bowl eligibility comes along with it.”
Richt said the team will practice Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and take the weekend off. Georgia has played games in 11 consecutive weeks.

I was reading an article on bulldog breeding, and how thanks to the Silers and others performing such close inbreeding, the breed is suffering horrific health issues. I quote from the article..”English Bulldogs have been consistently bred to have compact faces. Their skulls and jaws have become completely contorted to the point of malfunction and they can no longer breathe with ease. Most pregnant English Bulldogs can no longer deliver litters without surgical assistance due to being bred to have a heavier frame and lower center of gravity. ”
so there you have it!! Over time, animals DO take on the characteristics of their masters!

Farley is a cheap shot artist. Auburn has always been a sleezy operation, remember turning water hoses on fans after we won a game? They have a history of cheating and it looks like they have not changed one bit.

Unless Aaron Murray is a liar, there is no word yet.
Updated SEC Standings show that Georgia is # 8 in The SEC.
CMR is the # 5 Coach in The SEC.
CMR is the # 6 highest paid coach in all of college football.
His coaching staff is horrid, has been horrid and continues to be horrid.
There are now two (2) teams CMR lost to this season who are not ranked and got no votes in either the USA Today Coaches’ Poll nor a vote in the AP Poll. There is 1 game left. We lost to Florida and Colorado. God Almighty don’t tell me we will lose to Georgia tek. They suck. So did Florida and Colorado.
Maybe 2 games left, so beating Georgia tek makes us both 6-6 and gives UGA a chance to go to Birmingham for the Birmingham bowl. That is another month of this same “coaching staff” to continue to screw up our players.
43-20 over the last 5 years now for Coach Richt.
95-33 overall over the last 10 years
52-13 the first 5 years with Jim Donnan’s recruits
33 Losses, 20 other 10-year periods better in UGA history fewer 33 losses
We didn’t seem prepared to play for 60 minutes
10-42 the final 3 quarters
# 54 Total Offense NCAA Rank this am for UGA
# 52 Total Offense NCAA Rank Average all 10 years of CMR Era
So, we are slightly worse this year than CMR’s usual crappy Offense
# 6 game this season where the opposing QB out-played our QB on the field
# 6 resultant loss for the starting QB now with a 5-6 record
David Greene had the most wins in NCAA history as Starting QB when he graduated
There is some other measure now for our best player all season long, nowadays
Not sure what that is, other than he is the about the only clean kid on our team with all the late piling on, chop blocks, penalties, fisticuffs, offensive pass interference, shoving down of Auburn pass defenders with the ball in the air and celebrating by our guys during the game we lost by nearly 3 TD, such as the fist pump by Aaron Murray on the 15-yard late hit penalty in Nick Fairley which gave us a score or they beat us by nearly 4 TD. Both teams were having at it. Pardon me. 1 has the Fulmer Cup this season.

You want to talk about coaches’ sideline actions? You obviously missed when your beloved Richt ran 10 yds out on the field to emphatically wave Auburn’s offense back after a penalty AND even more emphatically pointing at the penatly flag!!! Funny how Auburn has not been involved in a fight all year until the UGA “thugs” and their coaches…yes, they’re just as bad (read lips and observe sideline actions)…come to town! For all that attended the game, also please note that the entire UGA bench ran on the field when the fight broke out to take on the AU defensive 11, while the AU team stayed on the sideline where they belonged!!!
NOTE: AU player was blocked into A.Murray…all non-UGA fans can easily see it!!! Also, note that pic (a clean hit) on AJC online sports page is NOT play Murray was hurt .
AND when the UGA fans get involved, the Toomer’s Corner tree gets burned for the first time!
Thanks UGA University and your fans!! One class group from Athens!

UGA fans start working on your lame excuses for the Tech game now. Maybe Tech will be dirty, or lucky, or unfair. Maybe you can find a way to blame Auburn for your Tech loss too! Perhaps, it will be Nick Fairley’s fault that you lose to Tech. Poor Murray will be so emotionally scarred fromt he unfair and mean tackles of Fairley that he won’t be able to find the groove against Tech. I bet this sorry rag of a paper will write 3 or 4 articles to make all you losers feel better about not going to a bowl game.

Why is that the comments section of any AJC article seem to attract the absolute worst quality of people? As an Auburn fan, I refuse to believe the 200+ comments thus far reflect accurately the level of maturity intelligence of the vast majority of UGA fans. Both teams played very aggressively, both teams took some cheap shots, and both teams got the benefit of some bad calls. In other words, it was a typical SEC game. Nasty personal accusations against any particular player, coach or the opposing fans serve no purpose other than make people look like angry fools.
Here’s hoping that Murray’s knee is fine and that UGA goes on to represent the SEC well against Georgia Tech and a bowl game. War Eagle and Go Dawgs.

I am a Clemson fan with no love for UGA. With that said, I want to say that Auburn is the dirtiest team I have ever seen. Some of you may recall that our QB was deliberately speard in the back in our game at Auburn, and nothing has changed since. The SEC really needs to look at the film of that game Saturday and suspend about 8 Auburn players.
And as for David, who made that incredible statement a couple of posts above. You are as dumb as your team is dirty.

We got our arses handed to us by a better team, but their dirty play was inexcusable. Their coaches either encourage it or have zero control over their players.

That changed Saturday with that classless, disrespectful act.

I must say though that after watching that pack of thugs for a few minutes I wouldn’t cheer for Auburn for any reason against any team. This Auburn team plays the dirtiest of any team I’ve seen since the University of Miami 20 years ago. Coach Richt should file a complaint against this bunch of knuckleheads immediately and now I hope the NCAA finds enough evidence to keep these idiots out of the BCS voting.

AU won pure and simple, no excuses. They are the better team this year and are undefeated. With that being said, nothing will change my mind that Fairley is the dirtiest player in the Nation! He speared Murray with the crown of his helmet in his lower back way after the pass was thrown. In fact, he even purposely hit him in the kidney area off to the side of the flack-jacket. He knew exactly what he was trying to do. And, you can’t say that he was blocked into Murray on the hit to the knee. He got around the block, had his helmet up and went straight toward his leg, again with the crown of his helmet. If you defend his actions, then you too are a POS!

At AU, we stay out of jail and take are agression out on the field instead of fellow students and innocent bystanders. UGA might want to try that one day. It seems to work well. If you play with a purpose, you get results. Yes fairley abused the QB with the late hit, but when he rolled onto murray’s knee, that wasnt intentionally. You remeber Tom Brady’s injury, same here. There is a reason why other than the ARKY game, the AU defense has been stronger in the second half. After the first quarter saturday, AU outscored the dawgs 42-10. UGA just ran into a team playing with a me against the world attitude that some of you help them get to. I just wanted to take some time to say thank you all along with the media.

Auburn has a better team than UGA this year, no doubt. They won the game and they are still undefeated and that’s great for them. I used to have a certain amount of respect for the Auburn program, team and school but no longer. Chizik says he’s embarrassed and he should be after that low-rent classless display he put on along with his players. It was very embarrassing not only for Auburn but for the SEC. Yes, knocking a QB out of the game is part of football and it always has been. But, it’s supposed to be done with good, clean hits that are within the rules. Football is a game with rules and if you think the helmut-first spearing in the back several seconds after the QB released the ball is ok, then you are a low-life, classless idiot, just like Fairley.

Wow!! All these scour grape comments by the cracker nation. I thought for sure that your coach would have your dogs wear a different color uniform. It was so successful wearing black jerseys against Bama (snicker). I was expecting pink pants. Didn’t see any, probably were wearing pink jock straps. Dogs played like a bunch of pansy a$$$s. If your offensive line would learn to block then your QB would not get hurt. Learn to lose with some class. Enjoy the Birmingham Bowl at historic Legion Field. Beware the ghost of the “Bear” and don’t wear black jerseys.

I totally agree with JUSTAFAN comments, number 90 Nick Fairley should have been thrown out of the game! His coach needs to look in the mirror and ask himself, what if the opposing team did that to money-for-hire Cam Newton, he would have went beserk! Coach Richt needs to be fired as he is way too soft to be a head coach and can’t win big games either. At UGA. we need a Saban type of coach who wins big games and protects his players. Nick Fairley was hitting late on the QB several times and only flagged once, be for real! He was intentionally driving his shoulder into the QB into the ground to try and injure QB Murray, even the announcers said the intent was obvious and that college football needs to inact tougher rules protecting the QB, not just QB Murray. I can’t figure out the officials letting this kind of crap go on in this rivalry type game in the SEC! To intentionally try to injure another player has no place in any kind of football, if i was coach of the Bulldogs i would have chopped blocked this Fairley all day long until he got a good taste of his own medicine!
