No word yet on Murray’s knee injury

Georgia’s loss to Auburn on Saturday ended with Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray out of the game after taking a blow to his left knee, and there was no definitive word Sunday on the extent of the injury.

Coach Mark Richt indicated after the game Saturday night that he did not believe the injury was serious, and Murray seemed to be walking fine as he made his way to the locker room.

But on his regular Sunday evening teleconference with the media, Richt had no update on any injuries, including Murray’s.

With Georgia having an open date this week, the team and staff were given a day off on Sunday, and Richt, who conducted the conference call from home, said he had not met with director of sports medicine Ron Courson.

“I’m not going to talk about injuries in this conference,” Richt said. “I’m just going to hold off on that. I’ve got to get a clear picture from Ron . . . When I get with Ron, I’m sure we’ll have a discussion and will have a better idea of what is going on in that regard.”

Murray was on the sideline for the final five plays of Saturday’s game after his knee was jarred in a collision with the helmet of Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley.

“We don’t think there was any kind of structural damage [to the knee],” Richt said in his postgame news conference Saturday night. “We think it was more just a blow on the knee, the bone or whatever. He actually wanted to go back in and play. He was able to. I just told him no.”

Murray was not available for interviews after the game because he was receiving medical attention. Later in the night, he posted on Twitter: “Knee is all good, just gotta get some sleep and [I'll] be feeling good.”

Murray took a battering throughout the game, mainly from Fairley.

Asked Sunday if he took issue with some of Fairley’s hits, Richt said: “That’s another subject I’m not going to make a comment on right now.”

Tensions boiled over near the end of the game, and two Auburn players, defensive end Michael Goggans and defensive tackle Mike Blanc, were ejected for throwing punches.

“Just really disappointed in that,” Auburn coach Gene Chizik said after the game. “That’s a lot of reflection on us as coaches, and I am embarrassed by it. That’s not who we are.”

Richt said Sunday he had not heard from Chizik since the game and does not expect or need to.

“I know our guys were highly emotionally charged also, so I’m not going to sit here and try to say their guys were doing one thing and our guys were doing another,” Richt said. “I had enough concern about what was going on that we took a knee on that last play [of the game] just to try to defuse what was happening out there.”

++++++++++

After this week’s open date, Georgia closes its regular-season schedule Nov. 27 in Athens against Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs (5-6) need a win to become bowl-eligible for the 14th consecutive season.

“It is very important for us to go play in a bowl game,” Richt said Sunday, “but the most important thing for us is to beat our in-state rival, Georgia Tech. That’s more important to me and everyone else. That’s the main focus for us. Bowl eligibility comes along with it.”

Richt said the team will practice Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and take the weekend off. Georgia has played games in 11 consecutive weeks.

Auburn fans. I can’t believe that you condone one of your players grabbing a QB and driving him into the ground like he’s doing some WWE move. I believe that more SEC teams other than UGA are complaining about it. And don’t be so surprised saying other OL are going after his knees. If he keeps doing this OL are going after his knees even more until they get him.

All you AU fans tell me another coach besides Richt who suspends a player for driving without a license on a moped. UGA has alot of arrests but they are minor violations that always end with a suspension. If it is something major the player is kicked off the team and out of school. ie Mettenberger.

I have a naturally confrontational personality..I ENJOY the hatred shown to us when we go into the swamp or Death Valley or the pink elephants own Brian Dennehy stadium..or whatever they call it..

Probably why I am a political junkie and enjoy irking liberals.

I never much liked UGA growing up a Tech baby ( both parents went to Tech so I chose to go AU to be my own person, not a 15 minute drive from my parents), and I still don’t like UGA very much..so If you now hate us, big deal:)

I have watched every UGA game over the last several years and have never seen UGA linemen go after a players knees until this game. There was a reason for it. They were looking out for their QB. After I saw Murray get picked up off the ground and driven into it for the second time I said to myself that I hope they start going after the guys knees. So I wasn’t surprised when they did.

birddawgbill….you totally miss the point. Richt didn’t suspend the player simply for driving on a moped without a license. After upteen arrests, he said that he would suspend anybody that got arrested for anything (which he went back on by the way). It was because of the PATTERN of misbehavior and arrests, not just the single incident.

Gene ‘Chews it’ and the dirty Auburn team almost did in Murray like they did the Clemson QB. Broke the Clemson QB’s ribs and changed the outcome of the game. The player was down and the play over when he got hit. Then the reaction of the Auburn players (90 in particular) when the Dogs reacted with rage. Auburn sucks.

Seriously…no ones going to mention the AllBarn fans booing of Ruben Faloughi when he was injured, laying on the field? I’ve been to several games (home and away) and have never heard any fan boo an opponent who was injured. To make it worse, the commentators applauded Auburn fans for doing so. Am I missing something here? Or has this game evolved into a classless state that I no longer want to support? Good clean, hard hittin football is great. Late hits, cheap shots, punches, and injury jeering is just plain embarrassing. I’m embarrassed for the SEC.

In other news, congrats on the win…the better team definitely won. Maybe you can act like you’ve been there before the next time it happens.

Just watched the game again after seeing it in person. Down one score at the end of the third quarter with the bowl inside the 20. Offense looked so good. We really should have gone for it.

Grew up an AU fan and very disappointed in them and their coaches reactions during the end of the game. The whole Cam Newton “act” is gonna blow up in their face. They are treating him like an addict that went away to rehab (JUCO) and now deserves a second shot. Throw some “he helps school kids” in for show and it is all just a little to insincere. His actions don’t at all represent what they are trying to say about his character. Slive and Auburn want to ride him all the way to the bank. Call it what it is. He is a bought criminal, liar, and cheat. I have a bad feeling about what is down the road for AU. I am not sure they will be able to handle the microscope they are going to be under.

Dirty Dawgs? I think so.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/517057-georgia-auburn-gets-ugly-why-richt-must-go

Fairley tackles Washuan Ealey after a gain of about 3 yards. During the play UGA’s number 61 Ben Jones holds the jersey of Auburn’s number 93 Mike Blanc and pushes him out of the play. Then in a pre-mediated manner Jones immediately pounces on Auburn’s number 90 Nick Fairley and grapples with him on the ground. On the video you can clearly see Jones punching Fairley in the abdomen as he pins him on the ground. Seeing this, Auburn’s Mike Blanc and Stevens pull Jones off of Fairley. UGA’s Washaun Ealey gets in the middle and starts shoving and punching Blanc. UGA’s #60 Clint Boling then jumps in the middle and starts punching any Auburn player he can see, all while he continues to thrust himself into the Auburn side of the line of scrimmage.

While Boling is punching players, Auburn’s Goggins pushes him away from the Auburn players that Jones is attacking. While shoving Goggins away he shoves the face mask of Boling. Then Washaun Ealey, already suspended this year for going to jail, punches Goggins in the facemask.

Of course, in the Professional manner of SEC officiating, the Referee calls the punch on Goggins and ejects him for the deliberate actions of Mark Richt’s players, specifically Ben Jones, Ealey, and Boling. Then, while the SEC officials explain the penalty, Mark Richt has the audacity to come out on the field and tell the Ref that this is what happens when you don’t call the personal foul on Nick Fairley on the previous play.

But wait, it is not over. Two plays later, UGA runs the ball to the right. During this play, UGA’s #60 Clint Boling goes after the knees of Auburn lineback Craig Stevens. Also, #71 Cordy Glenn, blocks Auburn’s #93 Mike Blanc in the back and out of the play while holding his jersey. UGA’s Glenn continues pushing Blanc out of the play and Blanc starts pounding the chest of Glenn in the same manner as lineman punch during a pass rush. Glenn continues to shove Blanc after the whistle blows and tries to shove him into the UGA players bench.

Of course, in the Professional manner of SEC officiating, the referee call Blanc for a punch and ejects him from the game. Once again, as the result of Mark Richt’s out of control players and program a second Auburn player is ejected from the game.

So, I guess Mark Richt got what he wanted, two players ejected. Instead of graciously accepting his loss, he lashes out and instructs his players to involve themselves in behavior demeaning to the University of Georgia and the rest of College Football. Instead of graciously accepting defeat, his jealously will likely cause 2 Auburn players to miss the first half of the Auburn Alabama game. Mark Richt’s jealous rage could affect the outcome of that game and the outcome of the BCS.

Worse, Mark Richt has lost control of his program. Richt has had over 11 players arrested, one of which, Ealey, was in the middle of and instigated these actions. The lack of institutional control has been reflected for over 5 years now and shows its head amongst the game, the players, penalties, coaching, and on to the fans and worse yet, the students. I have over 5 stories (I’ll spare the details) of UGA fans harassing me at a UGA Auburn game. Two of these stories occurred after watching UGA players dance and stomp between quarters in an effort to show off. In addition, I have witnessed first hand Georgia players punching and gouging players in the pile.

I can’t figure out how Richt is able to portray himself so well off the field, but portrays himself so poorly on the field. Lastly, I can’t figure out how the Georgia football nation has not figured it out as well.

In conclussion, Richt has lost control of his program. For the benefit of Georgia and college sportsmanship, it would be best if Richt regained that control.

I’m not an Auburn or Georgia fan. Fairly is a cheap-shot thug. He should have been thrown out of the game after the last LATE shot to Murray’s knees. Georgia’s team did show a lack of discipline by running onto the field. That’s a black-eye to Richt and his program.
The worser of the two though is a player who deliberately tries to injure and maim someone in a game.

The sad thing here is that all these Auburns fans keep accusing Georgia of whining when that is not the case, only stating facts and observations and in many cases acknowledging we got beat by a better team. Secondly, Georgia did not brag and act like as big of an ass as Auburn fans are acting like right in the last four years combined when Georgia whipped Auburn. All the Auburn fans on here and in the stadium have shown themselves to be extremely poor winners which is pretty sad for a team that was supposed to win and had every scenario in their favor (at home, Newton playing, undefeated and playing against a brand new struggling Georgia defense and a 5-5 team). If you want to celebrate your victory then that’s fine but so far you’re all acting like a bunch of whining (that’s right) like brats.
